Ex-Con Defeats Incumbent in Brazilian Presidential Election

Former President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, colloquially known as ‘Lula’, defeated incumbent President Jair Bolsonaro in a tightly contested election on Sunday night, and will be the next President of Brazil.

With 99% of the vote in, the self described socialist defeated the populist conservative Jair Bolsonaro by a margin of 50.9% – 49.1%. The election went to a run-off between the top two finishers after no candidate secured a majority in the first round: Lula led the pack with 48% to Bolsonaro’s 43%, but Bolsonaro outperformed polling which suggested that Lula would walk away with the contest in the first round.

Lula is a founding member of Brazil’s left-wing Worker’s Party. He was a perennial presidential candidate before finally coming to power in the 2002 Brazilian elections, and held office from 2003-2010. Lula is also a populist and something of an icon in Latin America, where his ideology, Lulism, is a popular strand of socialist thought.

Lula’s defeat of Bolsonaro follows a trend of left-wing governments coming to power across Latin America, described by some observers as a second ‘pink tide’ reminiscent of a similar political shift in the first years of the 21st century. In the final days of the campaign, President Bolsonaro spoke to Daily Wire Host Ben Shapiro about the potential stakes of the election.

“We in Brazil cannot possibly join the Venezuela club, or league of countries, which now includes Chile, Argentina, and Nicaragua. Brazil is the most important country in South America, so if Brazil succumbs to the left-wing, that’s the end of South America,” he said. ‘The Only Way Democrats Win This Time Is if They Cheat’: Former NYC Police Commissioner

An enthusiastic Lancaster, Pennsylvania crowd of more than 400 people broke into chants at least 10 times Saturday, during a campaign rally for Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Mastriano.

“Doug for Gov! Doug for gov!” they spontaneously shouted throughout the rally. But their whistles and applause turned to rapt attention when Bernard Kerik started his speech with a recollection of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001. At the time, Kerik was the New York City Police Commissioner. He was on the grounds of the Twin Towers when the second airplane struck.

Years later, Kerik worked for former President Donald Trump as chief investigator for the legal team looking at the 2020 election. He met Mastriano while preparing for the high-profile Nov. 25, 2020, Pennsylvania Senate Hearing that questioned the election. The hearing was held in Gettysburg and featured testimony from former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani, an attorney.

“Politics is a dirty, dirty business,” Kerik said. But he noticed Mastriano had the respect of his peers during preparation for the hearing. “I’ve never been in a room with 20 different legislators, and every single one of them looks at one man and says, that guy is going to be the next governor of the state of Pennsylvania.” (Read more from “‘The Only Way Democrats Win This Time Is if They Cheat’: Former NYC Police Commissioner” HERE)

Biden’s Open Border: Previously Deported Illegal Alien Reenters U.S. After Sexually Assaulting Girl

A previously deported illegal alien again crossed the United States-Mexico border, under President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security (DHS), after having been convicted of sexually assaulting a fourth-grade girl.

In February 2021, illegal alien Carlos Bartolo Rios of Mexico pleaded guilty to third-degree sexual conduct and exposing a minor to obscene material after a fourth-grade girl told law enforcement that she had been repeatedly raped by Rios in North Charleston, South Carolina. . .

After having been sentenced to time served as a part of his plea deal, Rios was arrested and deported to Mexico in March 2021 by the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency.

This month, Rios was arrested again by ICE agents in North Charleston after he crossed the southern border and successfully evaded Border Patrol agents, the Post and Courier reported:

Rios told investigators after he was arrested Oct. 27 that he reentered the U.S. sometime in 2021 without inspection or approval, a source close to the investigation but not authorized to speak told The Post and Courier. The source said ICE is unaware of any crimes Rios committed since his reentry. He is not listed on any state or national sex offender registries.

Biden’s ‘Let-Me-Give-You-The-Facts’ Tweet Gets Instant Fact-Check From Twitter

President Biden on Friday was fact-checked by Twitter for inflating the number of corporations that were making billions.

In a tweet, purporting to give his followers “the facts,” the president asserted that 55 corporations made $40 billion in 2020 and “paid zero in federal taxes.”

The tweet included context added by readers, noting that Biden’s Inflation Reduction Act imposed a minimum tax on corporations with average pre-tax earnings greater than $1 billion.

It noted that of the 55 corporations mentioned by President Biden, only 14 had earnings greater than $1 billion and would be eligible under Biden’s tax law. (Read more from “Biden’s ‘Let-Me-Give-You-The-Facts’ Tweet Gets Instant Fact-Check From Twitter” HERE)

Crowded Coop: Musk Drops Big Hint About Staffing Changes After Twitter Takeover

Elon Musk, who declared himself “Chief Twit” after closing his $44 billion takeover of Twitter this week, hinted at more staffing shakeups for the platform on Sunday morning.

A Twitter user asked Musk what the “most messed up” thing at Twitter right now is.

“There seem to be 10 people ‘managing’ for every one person coding,” Musk replied.

The Tesla CEO said in May, just weeks after first making the offer, that the “company will be super focused on hardcore software engineering, design, infosec & server hardware” once the takeover is complete.

“I strongly believe that all managers in a technical area must be technically excellent,” Musk tweeted on May 6. “Managers in software must write great software or it’s like being a cavalry captain who can’t ride a horse!” (Read more from “Crowded Coop: Musk Drops Big Hint About Staffing Changes After Twitter Takeover” HERE)

Biden Admin Sued Over Withholding Baby Formula Shortage Information

The Biden Administration’s Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is being sued by an ethics watchdog for reportedly withholding key information on the baby formula shortage.

According to a complaint, the FTC ignored an August FOIA request from The Functional Government Initiative for records on its investigation into the shortage that affected families all over the country.

“FGI anticipates that officials and staff at FTC discussed and participated in making and implementing decisions about the investigation into the infant formula crisis… the public does not have an ability to easily evaluate the decision-making surrounding FTC’s investigation,” according to the lawsuit.

In May, the director of the National Economic Council Brian Deese admitted that the Biden Administration knew about a possible baby formula shortage months before in happened.

However, in a September report, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) blamed the shortage on a manufacturing problem at the Abbott Nutrition plant in Michigan. (Read more from “Biden Admin Sued Over Withholding Baby Formula Shortage Information” HERE)

U.S. To Send Ukraine $275 Million in Military Hardware Amid New Doubts About Support

The Department of Defense is again tapping into U.S. military stock to send Ukraine $275 million in weapons and ammunition, even as the Biden administration this week announced a plan to safeguard and account for munitions sent to help Kyiv in its fight against Russian invaders.

On Friday, the Pentagon announced the 24th drawdown of U.S. arms and equipment for Ukraine since the start of the Biden administration. The latest support package will bring the total U.S. military assistance for Ukraine to more than $18.5 billion, officials said.

“The capabilities we are delivering are carefully calibrated to make the most difference on the battlefield for Ukraine today,” Secretary of State Antony Blinken said Friday in a statement.

The new shipments were announced even as the administration was dealing with the first visible cracks in strong bipartisan support for Ukraine in the war. Progressive Democrats released — and then retracted — a letter earlier this week pressing the White House for direct talks with Moscow on a deal to end the war, just days after House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, a Republican, warned his party would not be signing a “blank check” to Mr. Biden for Ukraine aid in the future.

The latest drawdown includes more ammunition for the High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) that have been a crucial factor in countering Russian troops on the battlefield. The package also includes 500 precision-guided 155 mm artillery rounds; 2,000 remote anti-armor mines; more than 1,300 anti-armor systems: 125 Humvees and more than 2.75 million rounds of small-arms ammunition, Pentagon officials said. Ilhan Omar: Trump, Republicans Mentioning My Name Causes Uptick of Death Threats – ‘They Have to Be Held Accountable’

Representative Ilhan Omar (D-MN) said Friday on MSNBC’s “Alex Wagner Tonight” that when former President Donald Trump or other Republicans mention her name, she receives a direct uptick in death threats.

During a discussion on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) husband, Paul Pelosi, being attacked in his San Francisco Home early Friday morning, Wagner said, “Marjorie Taylor Greene, she has previously said that speaker Pelosi is a traitor to our country. She is guilty of treason. She gives aid and comfort to our enemies.”

Omar said, “We should not live in fear just because we have decided to serve our country, our constituents, and want the ability to shape the way in which our country is governed. What the Republicans have put out in those statements that you read to me – I just want the audience to realize that it is dangerous. It is delusional, and it is disturbing. This level of deflection that the Republicans are doing really moves us away from actual, honest accountability in this conversation.” (Read more from “Ilhan Omar: Trump, Republicans Mentioning My Name Causes Uptick of Death Threats – ‘They Have to Be Held Accountable’” HERE)

Good Riddance: Hollywood Elites Panic, Vow to Quit Twitter Over Elon Musk Takeover

Left-wing Hollywood elites are vowing to quit Twitter after Elon Musk completed his $44 billion takeover of the social media giant this week. But their righteous fury is already being called phony by those who believe, as one put it, that quitting Twitter will become the new “I’m moving to Canada.”

NBC’s This Is Us producer Ken Olin was among the first to declare his Twitter exodus. “I’m out of here,” he tweeted Friday.

“No judgement. Let’s keep the faith. Let’s protect our democracy. Let’s try to be kinder. Let’s try to save the planet. Let’s try to be more generous. Let’s look to find peace in the world.” . . .

Bill & Ted’s Excellent Adventure star Alex Winter also declared his departure from Twitter. “In retrospect it was inevitable,” he posted before providing a link to his other social media accounts, including Facebook and Instagram.

Showtime’s Billions producer Brian Koppelman declared he will try to take a “breather” from Twitter. (Read more from “Good Riddance: Hollywood Elites Panic, Vow to Quit Twitter Over Elon Musk Takeover” HERE)

Economic Downturn in Tech Industry Could Affect Americans in Worst Way

Americans could suffer from Big Tech firms laying off workers and freezing hiring as the economy remains volatile, the founder of a Bay Area job search community told Fox News.

“The average American will probably be impacted, at least in some form, by what may happen in this next economic downturn in the tech industry,” Albert’s List founder Albert Qian said. “We touch these things every single day, whether it’s Google Search, a store on Amazon, an Apple device.”

“When the Microsofts, the Googles, the Amazons, the Twitters, when those companies start laying off people, that’s when we need to start paying attention,” he continued.

Major tech companies have taken steps to cut their workforce in anticipation of an economic downturn in the coming months. Microsoft, for example, recently announced layoffs across multiple divisions, and Meta implemented a hiring freeze.
