U.S. Capitol Hill Officer Assigned to Senate Commits Suicide; Father Was Former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Who Died of Heart Attack at 62

By Law and Crime. An officer with the United States Capitol Police has died by suicide. He was Howard Liebengood, said sources cited by Punch Bowl News‘ Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan.

“The United States Capitol Police is deeply saddened by the off-duty death on January 9, 2021, of Officer Howard Liebengood, age 51,” Capitol police said in a statement released on Sunday. “He was assigned to the Senate Division, and has been with the Department since April 2005. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues. We ask that his family, and other USCP officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected during this profoundly difficult time.”

Liebengood was the son of former Senate sergeant-at-arms Howard S. Liebengood, who died in 2005 of a heart attack at age 62. His father also previously served as a chief of staff for two Republican senators, and was a lobbyist.

It is unclear if Liebengood left behind an explanation. His death happens mere days after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol Building on Wednesday. Congress was certifying the electoral college votes that favored President-elect Joe Biden. Trump has incessantly been lying that he actually won, and the election was stolen from him. Report: White House Counsel Warning Staffers That Donald Trump Could Be Charged With Treason

The White House’s top lawyer is reportedly warning staffers not to contact Donald Trump over fears that they could join him in being charged with treason, a report claims.

Vanity Fair reported that there was panic among staffers after violence broke out at the U.S. Capitol as angry supporters of the president stormed the building, forcing members of Congress to go into hiding. Some of them feared that they could be implicated in a coup to overthrow the government, and were advised to steer clear of Trump.

“The West Wing staffer told the friend that White House Counsel Pat Cipollone was urging White House officials not to speak to Trump or enable his coup attempt in any way, so they could reduce the chance they could be prosecuted for treason under the Sedition Act,” the outlet noted. Nikki Haley Tells RNC Trump’s Actions Since Election ‘Will Be Judged Harshly by History’

Former U.N. ambassador Nikki Haley delivered harsh criticisms of President Donald Trump in a speech to the Republican National Committee on Thursday, telling the audience that her former boss’s actions since the election “will be judged harshly by history.”

“President Trump has not always chosen the right words,” Haley said in her address at the RNC’s winter meeting, according to Politico. “He was wrong with his words in Charlottesville, and I told him so at the time. He was badly wrong with his words yesterday. And it wasn’t just his words. His actions since Election Day will be judged harshly by history.”

The Washington Free Beacon reported that Haley also praised Trump for his foreign policy approach, saying, “President Trump was our first commander in chief to see China for what it really is—the greatest global threat facing America. He held China accountable for its unfair trade, its theft of our secrets, and its egregious human rights record. The United States now sees China with open eyes, and we have Donald Trump to thank for that.”

On the morning of her talk, Haley tweeted that “it would be a conversation about where we are, some hard truths, and where I believe we go from here.” (Read more from “Nikki Haley Tells RNC Trump’s Actions Since Election ‘Will Be Judged Harshly by History'” HERE)

Congress Overrides Trump Veto for the First Time

Congress delivered a stinging rebuke to President Trump during a rare New Year’s Day session Friday, handing him his first veto override in the final days of his administration.

The GOP-controlled Senate voted 81-13 to override Trump’s veto of a mammoth defense bill, well above the two-thirds support necessary, underscoring the depth of disagreement between the two sides of Pennsylvania Avenue.

The House voted 322-87 earlier this week to nix Trump’s veto of the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), which greenlights spending levels and lays out policy for the Pentagon.

It caps off a chaotic session for Congress that started with the longest government shutdown in modern history, included an impeachment trial and is now closing in a rare rebuke of Trump. In addition to the veto fight, which was the last vote of the 116th Congress, Senate Republicans effectively killed the president’s demand for an increase in recently-passed stimulus checks, and next week Congress will ultimately reject a long-shot attempt by conservatives to hand the election to Trump. ‘Something Wrong With Her’: Trump Questions Kamala Harris’ Laughter on ‘60 Minutes’ (VIDEO)

President Trump on Monday said Sen. Kamala Harris’ frequent bursts of laughter at serious questions suggests “there’s something wrong” with the Democratic vice presidential candidate.

Trump mocked Harris’ “60 Minutes” interview, broadcast Sunday, during a campaign rally in Allentown, Pa.

“Did you see [Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s] performance on that show? The only thing almost as bad was Kamala, with the laugh. ‘Haha, that’s so funny. Hahaha.’ She kept laughing. I said, ‘Is there something wrong with her, too?’” Trump quipped.

“She will not be the first woman president, you can’t let that happen. I said, ‘Is there something wrong with her?’ She kept laughing at very, you know, serious questions.”

Chinese Virologist Whistleblower Says She’ll Spread Message ‘Before They Kill Me’

Chinese virologist who attracted global attention after spreading a conspiracy theory that China was responsible for creating and releasing SARS-CoV-2 has suggested this week she could be killed as a result of her disclosures.

Li-Meng Yan, a former post-doctoral fellow at Hong Kong University, said in an interview with Spanish TV channel Telecinco Thursday that Chinese authorities have spread false rumors in an attempt to ruin her reputation after she refused to remain silent.

“What I am going to do is spread the message as much as possible and show the facts so that people can verify them before they kill me. Everyone has to know the truth and they are not going to scare me,” she told television host Iker Jiménez.

Yan reiterated the claim her initial concerns about the origins of the coronavirus strain that causes COVID-19—which she maintains was made in a lab before intentionally being released by China—were previously silenced by her superiors. California to Study ‘Reparations’ for Slavery

The State of California will study reparations to black Americans, thanks to a bill signed into law Wednesday by Gov. Gavin Newsom.

AB 3121 will create a nine-member “Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans, with a Special Consideration for African Americans Who are Descendants of Persons Enslaved in the United States,” according to the text of the bill.

California was admitted to the Union in 1850 as a free state and has no history of legal slavery. . .

Despite California’s free history, the reparations task force is assigned the mission of evaluating the history and impact of slavery on the United States as a whole.

The goal, as with many California policies, is to be a model for liberal policies elsewhere — or, as Newsom said, according to The Hill, to be “a paradigm that we hope will be resonant all across the United States.” (Read more from “California to Study ‘Reparations’ for Slavery” HERE)

Unnerving: ‘Occupy’ Radicals Now Plan ‘White House Siege’

The activist group behind the Occupy Wall Street protest nine years ago, Adbusters, is planning a 50-day “White House Siege” next month.

“Drawing wind from #MeToo, #BLM, #ExtinctionRebellion and protests against Trump’s lethal bungling of coronavirus, we’ll inspire a global movement of systemic change — a Global Spring — a cultural heave towards a new world order, the activists say in a “Tactical Briefing” posted by Adbusters magazine.

The Adbusters Media Foundation is a Canadian-based anti-capitalist, enviromentalist group founded in 1989. Adbusters prompted the “occupation” of Wall Street in 2011 saying that had “one simple demand — a presidential commission to separate money from politics” that would “start setting the agenda for a new America.”

The activists say the launch date of the “seige,” Sept. 17, is the Occupy anniversary, making it “the perfect day to trigger another global big-bang moment — a massive collective action of the sweetest kind of disobedience.”

They complain that in the nine years since Occupy Wall Street — more than five of which were under Democratic President Barack Obama — “the shadows have only grown longer.” (Read more from “Unnerving: ‘Occupy’ Radicals Now Plan ‘White House Siege'” HERE)

State Bans Worship in Church

California has banned singing in places of worship in the latest COVID-19 pandemic-related restriction. California’s Department of Health issued an order Wednesday that temporarily prohibits worshipers from singing and chanting in a church, synagogue, or mosque.

“Even with adherence to physical distancing, convening in a congregational setting of multiple different households to practice a personal faith carries a relatively higher risk for widespread transmission of the COVID-19 virus, and may result in increased rates of infection, hospitalization, and death, especially among more vulnerable populations,” the order states.

“In particular, activities such as singing and chanting negate the risk-reduction achieved through six feet of physical distancing,” the order adds. “Places of worship must therefore discontinue singing and chanting activities and limit indoor attendance to 25% of building capacity or a maximum of 100 attendees, whichever is lower.”

“Discontinue singing (in rehearsals, services, etc.), chanting, and other practices and performances where there is increased likelihood for transmission from contaminated exhaled droplets,” the order reads. (Read more from “State Bans Worship in Church” HERE)
