A white North Charleston police officer was arrested on a murder charge after a video surfaced Tuesday of the lawman shooting eight times at a 50-year-old black man as he ran away.
Walter L. Scott, a Coast Guard veteran and father of four, died Saturday after Patrolman 1st Class Michael T. Slager, 33, shot him in the back.
Five of the eight bullets hit Scott, his family’s attorney said. Four of those struck his back. One hit an ear.
The video footage, which The Post and Courier obtained Tuesday from a source who asked to remain anonymous, shows the end of the confrontation between the two on Saturday after Scott ran from a traffic stop. It was the first piece of evidence contradicting an account Slager gave earlier this week through his attorney.
The U.S. Department of Justice said in a statement that FBI investigators would work with the State Law Enforcement Division, which typically investigates officer-involved shootings in South Carolina, and the state’s attorney general to investigate any civil rights violations in Scott’s death. North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said during a news conference that Slager had made a “bad decision.” (Read more from “Watch: Video Shows White Police Officer Shooting Unarmed Black Man Running Away” HERE)

By Ron Paul. Last week, the Justice Department announced it would not charge former Internal Revenue Service official Lois Lerner with contempt of Congress. Some members of Congress requested that Lerner be charged with contempt after she refused to testify at a congressional hearing investigating her role in denying or delaying the applications for tax-exempt status of Tea Party and pro-limited-government organizations.
Cynics might suggest it is not surprising that a former government official would avoid prosecution for refusing to tell Congress about how federal employees abused their power to help the incumbent administration. These cynics have a point, but the problem goes beyond mere partisanship. Government officials are rarely prosecuted for even the most blatant violations of our liberties. In contrast, federal prosecutors routinely pursue criminal charges against whistleblowers. For example, the only American prosecuted and imprisoned in relation to the government’s use of torture was whistleblower John Kiriakou.
While some officials like Lerner who find themselves at the center of a high-profile scandal or partisan dispute can expect harsh treatment from Congress, this is the exception, not the rule. Executive branch officials usually receive deferential treatment from members of Congress. I recall one hearing on government surveillance where a representative actually apologized to a government official because Congress had the gall to ask that official to testify about the government’s ongoing surveillance of the American people.
In contrast, private citizens called before Congress are harangued and even bullied. Congress should stop using the hearing process to intimidate private citizens and start using it to intimidate those government officials who are threatening our liberty. For example, Congress should continue to investigate the IRS’s ongoing attempts to silence organizations that work to advance free markets and individual liberty. Ron Paul Will Attend Rand’s Presidential Campaign Launch
By David Weigle. Former Texas Congressman Ron Paul will attend Tuesday’s expected launch of Kentucky Senator Rand Paul’s presidential bid. Reached on Monday, Ron Paul’s Texas office confirmed that he was heading to Louisville for the event after his son’s aides scored him a charter flight that would let him keep a long-scheduled commitment in Minneapolis.
For most political campaigns, “will the candidate’s father show up” wouldn’t be much of a question. In Rand Paul’s successful 2010 campaign for Senate, it wasn’t a question at all. In June 2009, Ron Paul’s congressional campaign sent an e-mail to donors credited to the man himself, asking members of the “liberty movement” to back his son.
“During the Presidential election he traveled to ten states giving speeches for me,” wrote Ron Paul. “He appeared on hundreds of radio programs for me. I am grateful for his contribution and very proud of the thoughtful, principled man Rand has become. So, it is with great enthusiasm that I endorse my son Rand’s venture into electoral politics.”
The younger Paul went along with this. He built on his father’s donor network, and shrugged when his opponent attacked the influx of out-of-state money. He talked to the same outsider news networks that had obsessively covered his father. (Read more from this story HERE)

In a stunning interview on “Fox News Sunday” in which he spoke bluntly and pulled not a single punch, the former head of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency was sharply critical of President Obama’s Middle East policies, especially the emerging nuclear deal with Iran.
Retired Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn used two words to characterize the administration’s approach to “almost a complete breakdown of order in the Middle East” — those two words: “willful ignorance.”
Flynn told Fox News’ Chris Wallace that Iran is “clearly on the march” and will undoubtedly exert increasing influence in growing sectarian wars now spreading across a number of countries — an influence that could be made even more threatening if they finalize the developing nuclear arms deal with the Obama administration.
“At the end of the day, we have just this incredible policy confusion — never mind what our strategy is to execute that policy,” Flynn said. “We have to stop what we’re doing and take a hard look at everything going on the Middle East because it’s not going in the right direction.”
Lt. Gen. Flynn’s stinging criticism of Obama’s foreign policy comes hot on the heels of other sharp rebukes from experts on international relations who described to Politico how the Obama years have had a harshly negative impact on stability and security in the Middle East. A Pentagon training video attempts to show how domestic and civilian employees should deal with a boss who gropes them.
A video made by the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute (DEOMI), which offers education and training for military active duty, reservists, and civilians, shows a male employee having to deal with his boss Miguel who is “too close for comfort.”
The head of the DEOMI, Army Col. Morris “Reese” Turner, was reassigned and put under investigation late last year for “inappropriate touching,” according to Military Times.
“I’ve worked with Miguel for about two months now,” the employee says, as images of the boss doing his best Joe Biden impression, massaging the employee’s shoulders, rubbing his belly, grabbing his cheeks, and running his hands through his hair..
“By all accounts he’s a great boss,” he said. “Just a little touchy feely for my liking. Listen I don’t have space issues but I don’t believe you have to touch me to talk to me. You can get my attention without grabbing me.” (Read more from “Watch: Pentagon Training Video Depicts Groping Boss” HERE)

In the clip found among the wreckage of the jet people can reportedly be heard crying “oh my God” and a large metallic banging noise happens three times.
The latter supports the theory that the captain, who had been locked out of the cockpit, tried to break down the door to stop co-pilot Andreas Lubitz.
Prosecutors investigating the crash which left 150 people dead said Lubitz, who had been suffering from depression, had “deliberately” destroyed the plane.
The video of the last few seconds inside the Germanwings plane was found on a mobile phone sim card among the debris from last Tuesday’s crash in the French Alps.
The clip was recorded from the back of the Airbus A320 and was obtained tonight by French magazine Paris Match and German newspaper Bild. (Read more from “Germanwings Passenger Recorded Horrific Video of Last Moments Inside Doomed Plane [+video]” HERE)

Video released Tuesday shows a Border Patrol agent shooting a Taser into a car moments before flames erupt from inside, killing the driver as agents looked on.
The family of the victim, Alex Martin, is suing the federal government, claiming the Taser caused the eruption of flames that killed their son. The disturbing video, caught on a dashboard camera in an agent’s vehicles, is part of the evidence in that case.
The family’s attorney Gene Iredale said Martin had been driving for 22 hours on his way back from Texas when he got lost in Pine Valley, California, in March 2012. According to court documents, Border Patrol agents tried to pull him over for driving the wrong way on Interstate 8.
But Iredale told NBC 7 Tuesday that the pursuing agents were all in plain clothes and unmarked cars, so Martin did not stop. For about three minutes, Martin led the agents on a high-speed pursuit that ended when he drove over spike strips that deflated his tires.
Martin, who had pulled over on the side of the road, had no way of knowing the men approaching him were law enforcement, Iredale claims. (Read more from “Watch: 25-Year-Old Burned to Death After Border Patrol Tasered Him” HERE)

The IRS commissioner on Tuesday brushed aside GOP proposals to abolish his agency, insisting the U.S. would have to have a tax collector one way or another.
“You can call them something other than the IRS if that made you feel better,” the agency’s chief, John Koskinen, said after a speech at the National Press Club.
Republicans have heaped even more criticism upon the agency than usual over the last 22 months because of its improper scrutiny of Tea Party groups.
Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) perhaps has made the most prominent calls to get rid of the IRS. While launching his presidential bid earlier in March, he floated the idea of “a simple flat tax that lets every American fill out his or her taxes on a postcard” . . .
Koskinen said Tuesday that, even under the simplest of tax codes, the federal government would need an agency to collect revenue and administer the tax code, something Cruz’s own aides have also admitted. (Read more from “IRS Chief to GOP: You Can’t Abolish Us [+video]” HERE)

Outgoing Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid has no apologies – and no regrets – for using the floor of the United States Senate to slander Mitt Romney as a tax evader during the 2012 election.
In an interview with CNN’s Dana Bash, the loathsome Nevada senator justified his unjustifiable attacks on Romney, as well as his seemingly endless bashing of the billionaire brothers Charles and David Koch, in the crudest possible terms.
When Bash reminded Reid some Republicans had branded his unique form of malice as “McCarthyite,” Reid gave his political opponents – and the American political system – a stiff, verbal finger.
“Well, they can call it whatever they want,” he said. “Romney didn’t win, did he?” (Read more from “Watch: Harry Reid Tells CNN He’s Proud of Lying About Mitt Romney’s Taxes: ‘Well . . . Romney Didn’t Win, Did He?'” HERE)
He is the son of Hassan Yousef, a founding member of Hamas, and the man who became the face of the “Second Intifada.”
His name? Mosab Hassan Yousef. Not only is he a convert to Christianity, but he also worked as a double agent within the Israeli security service Shin Bet against the State Department-designated terrorist organization Hamas.
The author of the “Son of Hamas” recently sat down in an interview with Glenn Beck of The Blaze, and he uttered a phrase that is not new, but is nonetheless striking . . .
Above is an interview with the Jerusalem Post, “A Terrorist’s Son Flips the White House’s Definition of Islam as the ‘Religion of Peace’ on Its Head,” conducted in 2012 where he provides some nuance and perspective on his provocative comment. The article provides a succinct biography for Mosab Hassan Yousef:
In 1978, Mosab is born to the son of one of Hamas’ seven founders, Sheikh Hassan Yousef. Prepped to follow in his father’s footsteps and become a terrorist, Mosab starts asking questions until gradually, over the years, he becomes convinced that the ways of Hamas cannot be the truth. He subsequently converts to Christianity. He becomes an agent for Shin Bet. The intelligence he provides prevents terror attacks and leads to the incarceration of Hamas terrorists. In 2007, he leaves the West Bank in favor of the west coast. He gain(ed) political asylum in the US…
