Victory for Bored Air Travelers Everywhere: FAA Lifts Ban on Electronics Use (+video)

Photo Credit: Sean MacEnteeIn a victory for bored air travelers everywhere, federal aviation regulators gave airlines the go-ahead Thursday to let passengers keep their iPads, Kindles and other electronic gadgets switched on during takeoffs and landings — a change that had airlines jockeying to be the first to make the switch.

JetBlue said it would carry out the loosened policy “as quickly as we receive approval from the Federal Aviation Administration, which can be as early as this afternoon.” That apparently hadn’t happened by early evening, however.

Delta Air Lines, which boasted of being the first carrier to file the necessary paperwork with regulators, said it hoped its passengers could see the change as soon as Friday. American Airlines said it will file its own plan with the FAA that day as well. Virtually all other major U.S. airlines said they’re working as fast as they can.

The FAA wouldn’t confirm anybody’s optimistic timing, and agency chief Michael Huerta told reporters that the airlines will first have to conduct tests to make sure the gizmos’ radio signals won’t interfere with their planes’ electronics. Still, airlines had been preparing for a decision such as this and will most likely try to roll out changes as soon as possible, with their eye on the Christmas travel season.

The changes don’t mean you’ll have to put up with a seatmate who yammers on his iPhone for the entire trip from Dulles to LAX. Cellphone calls will still be banned in flight.

Has a Man Ever Delivered a Baby? Sebelius: ‘I Don’t Think So’ (+video)

Photo Credit: AP/Ross D. FranklinDuring a House Energy & Commerce Committee hearing on the Obamacare website, HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius said, “I don’t think so” when asked “has a man ever delivered a baby?”

Rep. Renee Ellmers (R-N.C.) asked Sebelius, “Now as far as the essential health benefits, correct me if I’m wrong, do men not have to buy maternity coverage?”

Sebelius: “Policies will cover maternity coverage for the young and the healthy—”

Ellmers: “Including men?”

Sebelius: “30-year-olds will also have a choice of a catastrophic plan which has no maternity coverage?”

Charlie Rose to Cheney: Would You Have Seen Iraq Differently If You Had More Oxygen to Your Brain? (+video)

Photo Credit: APOn Tuesday’s Charlie Rose Show, former Vice President Dick Cheney came on to promote his new book about surviving heart disease and was treated to a nasty swipe from the host about his Iraq war decision making.

When Cheney told the PBS host and co-anchor of CBS’s This Morning that he had wished he had gotten his heart transplant done sooner, Rose took a swing, meant as a joke: “Might you have seen Iraq differently if we had more oxygen to your brain?” Cheney laughed off the cheap shot.

Shocking Obama Videos Reveal Real Goal: Transition

Photo Credit: APThe Obamacare plan – state and federal exchanges through which Americans are ordered to buy government-specified health care plans from insurance companies that signed up to offer coverage – perhaps should be called Obamacare 1.0.

After all, President Obama himself has advocated over the years for what Americans someday could see as Obamacare 2.0 – a fully controlling, nationalized, single-payer, universal health care plan.

With the government running everything.

There already are critics of Obama and Healthcare.gov website, in fact, who contend Obamacare rollout’s spectacular failure is part of an overall strategy to make the “transition” to single-payer, that is, socialized medicine, come more quickly.

In the collage of video clips, Obama states plainly, “I happen to be a proponent of a single-payer, universal health care plan. … Everyone in, nobody out.”

Ted Cruz Explains to Trayvon Martin’s Mother How ‘Stand Your Ground’ Laws Help Protect the Black Community (+video)

Photo Credit: C-SPANSen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) came face-to-face with Sybrina Fulton, the mother of Trayvon Martin, on Capitol Hill during a Tuesday hearing on “Stand Your Ground” laws. After offering his condolences to Fulton, Cruz told the mother that the self-defense laws are not racist because they help blacks as much as whites, if not more.

Cruz also explained that, despite some efforts to exploit Martin’s death, George Zimmerman’s defense team never used Stand Your Ground laws as a defense in the murder trial.

“We know that some in our political process have a desire to exploit that tragic, violent incident for agendas that have nothing to do with that young man who lost his life. We have seen efforts to undermine the verdict of the jury and, more broadly, to inflame racial tensions that I think are sad and irresponsible,” the Texas senator added.

CBS News: Policy Cancellations, Higher Premiums Add to Frustration Over Obamacare (+video)

Photo Credit: ReutersNearly five weeks into the launch of HealthCare.gov, the management expert brought in to turn around the website says its issues are fixable. But it’s going to take weeks, not days. That comes as some Americans are being surprised, not only that they are being booted off their current plans, but at how much they’re being asked to pay for new ones.

For many, their introduction to the Affordable Care Act has been negative: a broken website, and now cancellation notices from insurance companies followed by sticker shock over higher prices for the new plans. It’s directly at odds with repeated assurances from the president, who has said “if you like your insurance plan, you will keep it. No one will be able to take that away from you.”

But people across the country are finding out they’re losing their existing insurance plans under Obamacare because requirements in the law, such as prenatal and prescription drug coverage, mean their old plans aren’t comprehensive enough.

In California, Kaiser Permanente terminated policies for 160,000 people. In Florida, at least 300,000 people are losing coverage.

That includes 56-year-old Dianne Barrette. Last month, she received a letter from Blue Cross Blue Shield informing her as of January 2014, she would lose her current plan. Barrette pays $54 a month. The new plan she’s being offered would run $591 a month — 10 times more than what she currently pays.

Conservative Group’s New Attack on Mitch McConnell Dismissed as ‘Dumb’ (+video)

Photo Credit: YouTube The advocacy group Senate Conservatives Action announced Tuesday that it will spend six figures on a new television ad bashing Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell — but national Republicans are brushing off the buy.

Senate Conservatives Action, the PAC of the Senate Conservatives Fund that last week endorsed McConnell’s Republican primary opponent, Matt Bevin, will spend $330,000 to air the television ad across Kentucky, the group said. The 30-second spot attacks McConnell for his role in negotiations to end a 16-day government shutdown by restoring government funding, but without blocking the implementation of Obamacare.

“Conservatives asked Mitch McConnell to lead the fight against Obamacare,” the ad’s narrator says. “He didn’t listen.”
