Democratic strategist and former executive director of the Congressional Black Caucus Angela Rye picked the wrong panel Sunday to accuse the Tea Party of being “racial.”

When he heard this during his appearance on MSNBC’s Melissa Harris-Perry show, Republican strategist Ron Christie strongly objected saying, “Racial! I will not sit here and allow you to say that!” (video follows with transcribed highlights and commentary):

During a lengthy political discussion with Christie as the lone conservative against four extreme liberals (including the host, of course), Rye said, “I was just thinking, to me, in 2010, the Republican infighting took a particularly dangerous tone because it wasn’t just about infighting anymore. It was about taking our country back with the resurrection of the Tea Party. And it was very, very racial, whether any of them will admit it or not.”

Christie quickly refuted this saying, “Racial! I will not sit here and allow you to say that!”

“I said it, and I’ll say it again,” Rye responded.

Gingrich Dismantles Robert Reich’s Rant on Income Inequality: ‘This is Baloney’ (+video)

Newt Gingrich7232Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich heatedly disputed Robert Reich’s contention that the “War on Poverty’s” initial success was spoiled by decades of Republican “intransigence,” telling the former labor secretary his argument was “baloney.”

Gingrich and Reich appeared on ABC News’ “This Week” to discuss TIME magazine’s choice of Pope Francis as Person of the Year. Reich, a well-known proponent of wide-scale income redistribution, changed the topic to inequality in the United States today. ABC News host Jonathann Karl asked Gingrinch whether the Republican Party should be worried about poverty in America.

“Absolutely,” he responded. “How can you justify the level of wealth in those big towers in New York City and the level of poverty in those alleys? And without talking about government, surely a society that cared, that believed every person was endowed by their Creator with the right to pursue happiness, would come up with a better solution than 22,000 children that are homeless.

“I think that the Republican Party has an obligation to rethink some of its indifference to the very poor,” he continued, “and I think the Democrats have an obligation to ask themselves after 50 years of the ‘War on Poverty,’ isn’t it clear that government isn’t a very good –”

SNL Mocks Obama Selfie, Fake Mandela Interpreter (+video)

President Barack Obama’s appearance at Nelson Mandela’s memorial service this week was subject to a “Saturday Night Live” skit that targeted the stage’s fake interpreter and the president’s now infamous selfie.

The skit opened with an actor playing Obama delivering an address on the “series of unfortunate events” that occurred at the Mandela memorial.

“First, I got roped into taking a selfie with the blonde female Danish prime minister,” the Obama actor said. “Some people said Michelle was angry at me for that. But, I talked to her afterwards and I can assure you, she was furious.”

How the West was lost by the selfie president

My bookshelves sag with encyclopedic volumes arguing that America and the West are in decline. But proving that a picture is worth a thousand books, the “selfie” seen ’round the world ends the argument.

It’s official — the government of the United States of Obama consists of boobs and bores and is led by a narcissist. It is no consolation that Great Britain joins us in racing to the bottom.

President Obama’s flirting with Denmark’s prime minister would be shameful on any occasion. That it happened at the memorial for Nelson Mandela only adds to the embarrassment.

But the “selfie” episode also symbolizes the greater global calamity of Western decline. With British prime minister David Cameron playing the role of Obama’s giggling wingman, the “look at me” moment confirms we have unserious leaders in a dangerously serious time.

Iran marches toward nuclear weapons and already there is talk in military circles that a nuclear-armed Iran could mean mushroom clouds in the Mideast within five years.

Google’s Robots Give Amazon’s Drones a Run For their Money (+video)

Google has snapped up the creator of the world’s fastest running robot and other eerily realistic animal-like machines supplied to the U.S. military.

The internet company’s acquisition of Boston Dynamics is latest in a string of robotics acquisitions in a mysterious initiative led by former Android chief Andy Rubin.

As Amazon readies a fleet of delivery drones, Boston Dynamics is Google’s biggest prize yet in the robot wars.

Among the creations to crawl, jump and gallop from its labs are Big Dog, a four-legged robot that can clamber over uneven terrain such as snowy forests, even when assailed by kicks from its makers, and Cheetah, which claims to hold the record for the fastest legged robot in the world, running at more than 29 miles per hour.

Many of Boston Dynamics’ robots have been developed with funding from the U.S. Department of Defense’s research unit, Darpa, making Google a military contractor, at least for now.

Reports: ObamaCare Exchange Mistakenly Debiting Bank Accounts (+video)

For the second week in a row, the Washington Healthplanfinder website is down, and it’s causing problems for people who are dealing with billing issues. Some of them say the website is mistakenly debiting their accounts.

Shannon Bruner of Indianola logged on to her checking account Monday morning, and found she was almost 800 dollars in the negative.

“The first thing I thought was, ‘I got screwed,’” she said.

The Bruners enrolled for insurance on the Washington Healthplanfinder website, last October. They say they selected the bill pay date to be December 24th. Instead the Washington Healthplanfinder drafted the 835 dollar premium Monday.

Josh Bruner started his own business this year as an engineering recruiter. They said it’s forced them to pay a lot of attention to their bills and their bank accounts.

“Silent Night,” the iconic Christmas song about the birth of Jesus, is now part of the nation’s gun control debate.

Americans for Responsible Solutions, the gun control group founded by former Rep. Gabby Giffords and her husband Mark Kelly, have produced a video that shows sad scenes at the Newtown, Conn., school shooting a year ago and asks, “How long do we have to wait for Congress to act?”

Michael Bargo Sentenced; Now Youngest Man on Florida Death Row (+video)

An Ocala man is heading to death row for his part in the slaying of a 15-year-old boy.

During a 10-minute hearing on Friday, Circuit Judge David Eddy read 21-year-old Michael Bargo’s death sentence.

Bargo was the last of five defendants to be sentenced in the April 2011 murder of Seath Jackson in Summerfield, near Ocala.

“It is the judgment of the law and the sentence of the court for the premeditated murder of Seath Jackson, you Michael Shane Bargo are sentenced to death,” Eddy said.

Prosecutors said Jackson was lured to the home where he was beaten, shot and tortured before his body was burned in a backyard fire pit. The teen’s remains were then placed into three paint buckets and dumped into a limerock pit.

Eight Miles from Columbine, Gunman Opens Fire at Colorado High School Injuring Two Students Before Shooting Himself (+video)

A shotgun-toting student who was targeting a teacher at a Colorado high school opened fire and injured two students this afternoon before shooting himself dead.

The gunman, who has not been identified by authorities, openly carried the firearm as he entered Arapahoe High School in Centennial just after 12.30pm on Friday and immediately demanded to know where the member of staff was, Sheriff Grayson Robinson said.

He opened fire and shot a female student in the area, the sheriff said. The girl, believed to be 15 or 16, was transported to Littleton Hospital where she is undergoing surgery.

As authorities swarmed the scene, about 20 minutes after the initial call, they found the gunman dead inside the school with an apparently self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Rep. Gohmert: Budget Deal Violates My Principles (+video)

Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Tex.) challenged Rep. Paul Ryan’s (R-Wis.) assertion that the budget deal he negotiated with Sen. Patty Murray (D-Wash.) does not violate conservative principles even though it raises federal spending beyond the $967 billion limit set by the Budget Control Act of 2011 (BCA).

“I want to be supportive because I know Paul worked hard on it, but – and he says it doesn’t violate our principles – but it violates the previous agreement we had. And that’s kinda part of my principles,” Gohmert told CNSNews.com.

“And I know it’s part of the president’s principles,” he continued. “Clearly, President Obama does not want the budget caps burst through. Why would I say that? It’s because the president, I heard him very clearly with my own ears saying that if a bill is agreed to by both Houses and he puts his signature on it, and the Supreme Court doesn’t strike it down, then it’s the law and we’re not changing it.

“So he had the idea of the sequestration. Both Houses passed that bill and he signed it into law. It’s been upheld, so it is the law of the land – the court hasn’t struck it down. So obviously, unless the president wasn’t being truthful when he said that, then he would surely want the sequestration cuts to remain in place.”

Health Director who Approved Obama Birth Certificate Dies in Plane Crash (+video)

The health director who approved the release of President Obama’s birth certificate has died in a plane crash, Hawaiian officials said Thursday.

Loretta Fuddy died after the Cessna Grand Caravan aircraft she was travelling on went down shortly after leaving Kalaupapa Airport at around 3:15 p.m. local time (10:15 a.m. ET) on Wednesday.

The other eight people on board were rescued, Richard Schuman, president of Makani Kai Air, told NBC News early Thursday, adding that that there was no indication as to why the plane had crashed.

Fuddy hit the headlines two years ago when she approved a waiver request allowing Obama to access certified copies of his birth certificate, signed by the delivery doctor, Obama’s mother and the local registrar. His mother, then 18, signed her name (Stanley) Ann Dunham Obama.

So-called “birthers” opposed to Obama including real estate mogul Donald Trump had long questioned why Obama hadn’t ensured the long form was released.
