Gay Rights Group: Immigration Deal ‘Leaves Out Too Many LGBT Immigrant Families’

The National Center for Lesbian Rights (NCLR) welcomed President Barack Obama’s amnesty deal, but criticized it for excluding too many LGBT immigrant families.

“We applaud the vision and courage of our President in making good on his promise to act on immigration reform. We know that this is a first step and we are gratified that many of the cruel policies of the past will be replaced with more humane and effective strategies,” NCLR Policy Director Maya Rupert said in a statement Thursday night.

“However, we remain deeply concerned that the plan leaves out too many LGBT immigrant families. LGBT families are less likely to have legally recognized or biological relationships with each other, and thus relief based wholly on familial ties will exclude too many LGBT families,” Rupert said.

NCLR is a national legal organization committed to advancing the human and civil rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community through litigation, public policy advocacy, and public education, according to its website.

My Immigrant Father's Warning: 'When Illegality Becomes the Law'

Blue-State-BluesI am a legal immigrant. I did not choose to come to the United States—I was carried here, by my parents, who arrived with one suitcase and nothing else. They were not fleeing political oppression, religious persecution, or economic collapse. In fact, as white South Africans in the 1970s, they were born into a life of exclusive privilege and prosperity. My father had grown up poor but made his way to medical school. A life of wealth awaited.

Yet my parents chose to immigrate to the United States instead, living in a basement apartment with no family nearby, enduring a Chicago winter they could never possibly have imagined. My father had to redo part of his medical residency as my mother tended to an eight-week-old infant alone.

After many years and much hard work, they achieved the American dream. But they certainly would have been more comfortable in South Africa.

Years later, I asked my father why they had left South Africa. To this day, he has the same answer: “Illegality became the law.”

As students, he and my mother had both volunteered in the black and “coloured” townships where whites were rarely seen. They saw, firsthand, the injustice of a regime that stripped citizens of their vote, their property, and their dignity. And at that time, they could not have foreseen Nelson Mandela’s “miracle.”

Obama’s Amnesty Will Add As Many Foreign Workers As New Jobs Since 2009

By Neil Munro.

President Barack Obama’s unilateral amnesty will quickly add as many foreign workers to the nation’s legal labor force as the total number of new jobs created by his economy since 2009.

The plans, expected to be announced late Nov. 20, will distribute five million work permits to illegal immigrants, and also create a new inflow of foreign college graduates for prestigious salaried jobs, according to press reports.

Obama has already provided or promised almost one million extra work permits to foreigners, while his economy has only added six million jobs since 2009.

Under the president’s new amnesty plan, “up to four million undocumented immigrants who have lived in the United States for at least five years can apply. … An additional one million people will get protection from deportation…

Feds order Bible college to deport 120 Christian students

By Todd Starnes.

Myron Guiler wept.

I held the telephone receiver in my hand and listened as the Ohio pastor became overwhelmed with emotion.

“It’s heartbreaking,” he said. “I can’t stand to see these 120 children go. It’s my heart. I’ve poured my life into it.”

Guiler is the president of Marietta Bible College, a small unaccredited school that provides Bible training mostly for impoverished international students. The college is a ministry of the Marietta Bible Center Church.

According to the school’s website, it “underwent the complete review process by Ohio board of Regents in 1988 and was offered State licensure. The license was refused, because of our Biblical conviction, that such acceptance would place the State in authority over the church, the rightful position of Jesus Christ only (Colossians 1:18). Therefore, this institution is not certified by the Board of Regents nor the State of Ohio.”

By the government’s own admission, the college has dutifully applied for recertification for more than 10 years – without a single problem. So why not offer a measure of grace? Maybe Uncle Sam just lost the paperwork?

Sheriff’s Tough Message to the President Goes Viral Ahead of Obama’s Big Immigration Speech: ‘Only You Are Singularly Responsible’

Sheriff Scott Jones, in charge of one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the country, has recorded a video message to President Obama asking for immediate immigration reform. In the aftermath of the recent murders of Sacramento Sheriff Deputy Danny Oliver and Placer County Sheriff Detective Michael Davis Jr., by a suspect found to have been in our Country illegally and removed four different times, Sheriff Jones initiates a national conversation for the need of immediate action by the federal Government.

“In the scope of today’s society, the inaction of our nationally elected officials has real consequences for the populace as a whole. Now is the time to take this conversation out of coffee houses and talk shows to an audience who has the ability to affect real change.” –Sheriff Scott Jones

‘OPEN REBELLION’: CHAOS IF REPUBLICANS DON’T WITHHOLD FUNDING FOR OBAMA EXECUTIVE AMNESTY

By Matthew Boyle.

Conservatives say that Republican leaders, including House Speaker John Boehner and incoming Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, will be “complicit” in President Barack Obama’s planned executive amnesty if they don’t pull out all the stops to block him.

They warn that chaos is around the corner if that’s how it goes down, even though they’d much rather have Republican leaders fight the president alongside them.

“Fight or be complicit in lawlessness,” Judicial Watch president Tom Fitton told Breitbart News, is the message to congressional GOP leaders on Obama’s amnesty.

If Republicans move forward with the plan from House Appropriations Committee chairman Rep. Hal Rogers (R-KY) to fund the entire government—including Obama’s executive amnesty, which the president is set to announce on Thursday night—in an omnibus spending bill, a Senate GOP aide told Breitbart News conservatives will spread chaos across Washington.

“If Obama announces executive amnesty and the House passes an omnibus with no language blocking it, there will be no Senate vote, because conservatives will burn down the Capitol,” the aide said. When asked to clarify if he was serious they’d burn the building to the ground—or if he was speaking metaphorically—the aide said “open rebellion.”

Obstacle to O's Plan: His Own Statements…

By Breitbart News.

President Obama is poised to ignore stark warnings that executive action on immigration would amount to “violating our laws” and would be “very difficult to defend legally.”

Those warnings came not from Republican lawmakers but from Mr. Obama himself.

For years, the president has repeatedly waved aside the demands of Latino activists and Democratic allies who begged him to take action on his own, and he insisted publicly that a decision to shield millions of immigrants from deportation without an act of Congress would amount to nothing less than the dictates of a king, not a president.

Obama’s Book Says Illegals Can Hurt Americans

By Greg Richter.

President Barack Obama may be days away from signing an executive order that would allow up to 5 million illegal immigrants to stay in the country, but he was singing a different tune eight years ago as he prepared for his first presidential campaign.

The Daily Caller reports that Obama sounded a lot like those criticizing his plans now when he wrote his 2006 book, “The Audacity of Hope: Thoughts on Reclaiming the American Dream.”

“[T]here’s no denying that many blacks share the same anxieties as many whites about the wave of illegal immigration flooding our Southern border — a sense that what’s happening now is fundamentally different from what has gone on before,” Obama wrote. “Not all these fears are irrational.

“The number of immigrants added to the labor force every year is of a magnitude not seen in this country for over a century,” Obama said in the book.

THROWBACK: How Eisenhower solved illegal border crossings from Mexico

By John Dillin.

George W. Bush isn’t the first Republican president to face a full-blown immigration crisis on the US-Mexican border.

Fifty-three years ago, when newly elected Dwight Eisenhower moved into the White House, America’s southern frontier was as porous as a spaghetti sieve. As many as 3 million illegal migrants had walked and waded northward over a period of several years for jobs in California, Arizona, Texas, and points beyond.

President Eisenhower cut off this illegal traffic. He did it quickly and decisively with only 1,075 United States Border Patrol agents – less than one-tenth of today’s force. The operation is still highly praised among veterans of the Border Patrol.

Although there is little to no record of this operation in Ike’s official papers, one piece of historic evidence indicates how he felt. In 1951, Ike wrote a letter to Sen. William Fulbright (D) of Arkansas. The senator had just proposed that a special commission be created by Congress to examine unethical conduct by government officials who accepted gifts and favors in exchange for special treatment of private individuals.

Republicans seek creative ways to avert a shutdown

By JAKE SHERMAN and MANU RAJU.

Republican leaders have intensified their planning to prevent a government funding showdown, weighing legislative options that would redirect GOP anger at Barack Obama’s expected action on immigration and stave off a political disaster, according to sources involved with the sessions.

Obama plans to use his executive authority to change the enforcement of immigration laws by the end of the year, a move that top Republicans warn could derail efforts to pass a long-term spending bill by a Dec. 11 deadline. Increasingly, some top Republicans believe that it will be difficult to pass the year-long spending package that they originally envisioned, and are refocusing on a shorter term bill.

Speaker John Boehner, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and their top aides and deputies are mulling several options that would give Capitol Hill Republicans the opportunity to vent their frustration with what they view as an unconstitutional power grab by the White House — without jeopardizing the government financing bill.

After Son is Killed by Illegal Alien, Father Asks Obama to Bring Him Back to Life With Executive Order

By Matthew Boyle.

A grieving father is asking President Barack Obama to bring his son, who was killed by an illegal alien, back to life with an executive order on immigration.

“While your Executive Order pad is out, can you write one to bring my son and the tens of thousands (actually over 100,000) killed by illegal aliens back to life and to bring our destroyed families back together?” asks Don Rosenberg in a letter to Obama. His son Drew was killed by an illegal alien who ran over him in 2010.

In the letter, Rosenberg notes that President Obama’s administration refused to deport the illegal alien who killed his son.

“I know that shortly you will be issuing some sort of Executive Order protecting millions of lawbreakers, many of whom have killed people but all of whom share some responsibility for those killed,” Rosenberg wrote. “I know that you want to prevent their families from being separated. By the way, your administration refused to deport the man who killed my son. I was told, ‘He’s only committed one crime of moral turpitude.’”

AZ Sheriff Feds Refuse to Give Us Names of Released Criminal Aliens

By Breitbart TV.

Pinal County, AZ Sheriff Paul Babeu reported that that federal government “refuses” to give him the names of illegal aliens who commit crimes in the US and are released on Wednesday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.

Babeu said that “law enforcement in many cases have let these criminals go even when there’s an outstanding hold or a warrant for them from immigration [officials].” And “what we’ve had happened right here in my county, there were hundreds of convicted criminals that were released right here. There are thousands including California, Georgia, and Texas, and to this day the federal government refuses to tell us their names…there’s no consequences for all of these criminals. They’re back out on the street and the federal government will refuse to give us these names because they know we can then connect thousands of these criminals who the federal government once held in custody and then released them.”

Source: Obama to announce 10-point immigration plan via exec action as early as next week

By Lucas Tomlinson.

President Obama is planning to unveil a 10-part plan for overhauling U.S. immigration policy via executive action — including suspending deportations for millions — as early as next Friday, a source close to the White House told Fox News.

The president’s plans were contained in a draft proposal from a U.S. government agency. The source said the plan could be announced as early as Nov. 21, though the date might slip a few days pending final White House approval.

Obama was briefed at the White House by Homeland Security officials before leaving on his Asia-Pacific trip last week, Fox News has learned.

The plan contains 10 initiatives than span everything from boosting border security to improving pay for immigration officers.

But the most controversial pertain to the millions who could get a deportation reprieve under what is known as “deferred action.”

Obama plans to protect up to 5 million from deportation

By Michael D. Shear, Julia Preston and Ashley Parker.

President Barack Obama is expected to ignore angry protests from Republicans and announce as soon as next week a broad overhaul of the nation’s immigration enforcement system that will protect up to 5 million undocumented immigrants from the threat of deportation and provide many of them with work permits, according to administration officials who have direct knowledge of the plan.

Asserting his authority as president to enforce the nation’s laws with discretion, Obama intends to order changes that will significantly refocus the activities of the government’s 12,000 immigration agents. One key piece of the order, officials said, will allow many parents of children who are U.S. citizens or legal residents to obtain legal work documents and no longer worry about being discovered, separated from their families and sent away.

That part of Obama’s plan alone could affect as many as 3.3 million people who have been living in the United States illegally for at least five years, according to an analysis by the Migration Policy Institute, an immigration research organization in Washington. But the White House is also considering a stricter policy that would limit the benefits to people who have lived in the country for at least 10 years, or about 2.5 million people.

Extending protections to more undocumented immigrants who came to the United States as children, and to their parents, could affect an additional 1 million or more if they are included in the final plan that the president announces.

Obama’s actions will also expand opportunities for immigrants who have high-tech skills, shift extra security resources to the nation’s southern border, revamp a controversial immigration enforcement program called Secure Communities, and provide clearer guidance to the agencies that enforce immigration laws about who should be a low priority for deportation, especially those with strong family ties and no serious criminal history.

ObamaImmigrationVoteTodayWeMarchAmnesty is Irreversible

By Rush Limbaugh.

CALLER: Look, what Obama’s trying to do with amnesty by granting legalization and amnesty to five million illegals, while it sounds terrible, I think it really is a great opportunity for this nation, especially conservatives. What we can do is this. As soon as he announces it, let’s say, “Go ahead and do it,” and we’ll make sure that all of these illegals know that in two years and two months, we will reverse this amnesty, and they will become illegals again.

RUSH: No, that’s never gonna happen.

CALLER: We’ll have their name and address.

(crosstalk)

RUSH: He can’t hear me ’cause of our phone system. I’m not being rude, and I don’t want to be rude. But there’s no reversing this. This is not like a piece of legislation that you might think you could repeal or vote out or whatever. You can’t reverse this. We’ve never, ever reversed an amnesty. And, by the way, we’ve never repealed an entitlement, either. Well, that’s not entirely true.

This is a senior citizens Medicare one. Dan “Rosty” Rostenkowski did that. But that happened within days, not years. But there’s no upside to this. A, it’s lawless. We don’t want to applaud lawlessness. There is no political advantage in letting Obama be lawless. We already won an election. We don’t need any more evidence to win an election. “Yeah, let him do this, and it will guarantee us 2016!”

I respectfully have to shut down that kind of thinking. This is ballgame here. Obamacare and this are ballgame, in terms of the transformation of this country. Now, you might think, “Well, Rush, but we’re gonna know who they are!” They’re gonna play games with this, by the way. They’re not gonna say it’s amnesty. They’re gonna say we’re just not gonna deport ’em.

Obama to Boehner: You’ve Got Until the End of the Year to Pass an Immigration Bill or Else I Order Executive Amnesty (+video)

President Obama and Rep. John BoehnerHeads he wins, tails you lose. As Gabe Malor says, this deadline is completely unserious: It’d be bad enough for Republicans to pass a weak immigration bill next year, but that at least would have the virtue of giving the GOP’s new crop of senators a crack at voting on it. Trying to sneak a bill through the lame-duck session, before Cory Gardner, Joni Ernst, and the rest of the freshmen have a say, would mean all-out war at this point between Boehner, McConnell, and the base. Joe Biden at least seems to understand that. That’s why he floated a mid-February deadline at Friday’s White House summit with the GOP before Obama gave him a death stare that shut him up. I think Obama understands it too, actually. His ultimatum here is likely born not out of ignorance of Boehner’s predicament but a new determination to make Republicans pay politically after they swamped him last Tuesday. Issuing executive amnesty so soon after a landslide is an act of supreme defiance of the election results, in keeping with last week’s “I’m listening to all the people who didn’t vote” press conference. And it’s also a middle finger to congressional Democrats who spent the last six months giving him the “Barack who?” treatment on the stump. If executive amnesty puts them in a tough spot too, screw ‘em. Besides, the only Dems left in Congress at this point are in states or districts so blue that they won’t lose in 2016 no matter how crazy he gets. He’s now fully entered the YOLO phase of his presidency.

Actually, maybe Obama doesn’t understand Boehner’s predicament. Here’s a tidbit from WSJ’s mini-bombshell on Friday about secret talks on immigration between the White House and the House GOP over the past year.

Mr. Obama offered Mr. Boehner what he saw as a compromise: The White House would defer executive action on immigration until after the summer to give the speaker maneuvering room, a deal Mr. Obama confirmed in his Wednesday news conference.

In the discussion, however, he followed up with his go-to talking point in dealings with Mr. Boehner: “There will never be another Republican president again if you don’t get a handle on immigration reform.”

Rep. Smith Slams Use of Obamacare Funds to Promote Amnesty for Young Illegals

Photo Credit: AP / Charles DharapakIn a letter to House Appropriations Chair Harold Rogers (R-Ky.) on Tuesday, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-Texas) called for defunding a provision in Obamacare that has been allowing taxpayer dollars set aside for public health initiatives to fund television ads for President Obama’s illegal alien amnesty programs.

In his letter, Smith cites a $15 million grant from the Prevention and Public Health Fund that the Department of Health and Human Services gave the California Endowment. The Prevention and Public Health Fund was created by the Affordable Care Act to support public health care initiatives. The California Endowment is a statewide, private health foundation that supplies grants for various organizations throughout California, and has served as one of the Obama administration’s loudest promoters of Obamacare.

Newsbusters (which like CNSNews.com is part of the Media Research Center), reported earlier this month that the California Endowment last year signed a $20 million deal with the Spanish-language TV outlet “Univision” to help promote Obamacare. Using federal tax dollars from the health fund, the foundation then sponsored ads on Univision reminding qualifying illegal aliens to renew their Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) permits before they expire.

“U.S. taxpayer dollars are being spent for Univision morning show weatherwoman Ximena Córdoba to exhort beneficiaries of President Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program to renew the permits exempting them from deportation proceedings for another two years,” Newsbusters reported.

Pelosi: Obama Must Stop Deportations, Allow Entry to Millions More Illegal Immigrants

Photo Credit: Graeme Jennings / ExaminerBy SUSAN FERRECHIO.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi called on President Obama to issue a “bold” executive order that would stop the deportation of millions of illegal immigrants, including farm workers, families of people allowed to remain in the country under the administration’s “Dream Act” policy, and many others.

In an op-ed published by Univisión, Pelosi, along with Reps. Zoe Lofgren and Luis Gutiérrez, called on Obama to legalize immigrants who would have benefited from a comprehensive immigration reform bill the U.S. Senate passed in 2013.

The trio of lawmakers said the president should go even further by permitting close relatives of citizens and lawful permanent residents to gain entry into the United States, and blocking the deportation of relatives who are here illegally.

“Doing so would not permit family members to skip the line, but it would allow them to wait in line with their family until a visa number becomes available,” the lawmakers wrote.

With less than a week to go before the pivotal midterm elections, Democrats are eager to bolster turnout among their base of Hispanic voters.

MOTHER OF MAN KILLED BY ILLEGAL: PRES ‘IGNORING US COMPLETELY’

Mary Ann Mendoza, whose son, Brandon, was killed by an illegal immigrant slammed President Obama for having “no concern” for her or the families of others who have lost their loved to ones to crimes committed by illegal immigrants on Wednesday’s “Your World with Neil Cavuto” on the Fox News Channel.

Thousands of us are waiting for at least an acknowledgment from him that he understands the pain that we are experiencing losing a loved one at the hands of repeat illegal criminals. Feds Getting Ready for Executive Action on Immigration

He tried to persuade the school’s officials to let him in and was told he was lucky to be on a wait list. The story is a metaphor for immigration policy, he said.

“What we do in immigration policy is decide who we want to admit to the U.S. and who we don’t,” he said.

Now Rodríguez is heading Citizenship and Immigration Services, a part of the Department of Homeland Security.

Green cards on the table

By THE WASHINGTON TIMES.

The White House intended to remain silent about its plans for immigration. Revealing a scheme to open the floodgates of amnesty would be disastrous on the eve of the critical midterm elections. But this is the gang that can’t shoot straight.

The U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services on Friday threw open the door to as many as 100,000 Haitians, who will now move into the United States without a visa. Sen. Chuck Grassley, Iowa Republican, rightly and accurately denounced enabling Haitians awaiting a U.S. visa to enter the country and legally apply for work permits as “an irresponsible overreach of the executive branch’s authority.”

That was just the beginning. The immigration agency earlier this month had solicited a printer able to handle a “surge” of 9 million green cards “to support possible future immigration-reform initiative requirements.” In an ordinary year, about 1 million green cards are issued, and over the life of this contract the company is expected to produce up to 34 million cards, a figure representing an increase of the population of the United States by 10 percent.
