The Obama administration’s pledge to absorb thousands more Syrian and other refugees could run headlong into resistance from state and local officials worried about whether their communities can handle the influx.
Federal officials announced last month they plan to take in at least 10,000 refugees from Syria over the next year, and a total of 100,000 refugees from around the world by 2017 — up from 70,000.
While Republicans on Capitol Hill have raised concerns about whether refugees from Syria will be adequately screened for terror ties, local officials are worried simply about whether they have the resources to take them.
“It’s a fiscal issue,” said Peter Steele, a spokesman for Maine Gov. Paul LePage. “You can only pay for what you can afford, and those funds should be going to the most needy citizens in our state.”
Refugees granted entrance to America often move around the country, tapping services and funds from local communities as they go. They get benefits ranging from food stamps to traditional welfare to housing to language classes. Refugees also receive over $1,800 per person in cash once in the U.S. (of which $750 goes to a resettlement agency contractor). By David Edwards. Rev. Franklin Graham this week suggested that President Barack Obama was to blame for the slaughter of Christians in the Middle East because his policies were “against Christ.”
Newsmax host Steve Malzberg argued during an interview with Graham that the president “claims to be a devout Christian who can’t bring himself to feel anything” about the death of Christians in the Middle East.
“The president, when he was growing up, his influences were Islam,” Graham opined. “His paternal father is Muslim, his step father was a Muslim, he went to Muslim schools. So, his formative years were all guided by influences of Islam.”
“And so, his Christian position, I don’t know,” the pastor continued. “All I know is that the policies that he has stood behind as president have been against Christ and against his teaching. Abortion is a sin, and if you look at same-sex marriage, this is a sin against God.”
“And the president has stood defiantly against God. And against his teaching. And the teachings of the scriptures.” (Read more from “Franklin Graham: Obama Supports Same-Sex Marriage and Abortion Because He’s ‘Guided by’ Islam” HERE)

Obama Authorizes Airstrikes in Iraq to Protect U.S. Officials and Refugees Trapped by ISIS Rebels
By David Martosko. President Obama, who ran for office on a platform of ending U.S. military hostilities in Iraq, said Thursday night that he had authorized ‘targeted airstrikes if necessary’ in an effort to protect the delivery of humanitarian aid to threatened Iraqis, and to ensure the safety of US personnel delivering the assistance.
‘We do whatever is necessary to protect our people. We support our allies when they’re in danger,’ Obama said in an eight-minute speech delivered from the White House’s State Dining Room.
But American combat troops will not be returning to fight in Iraq, he insisted, and the U.S. won’t be ‘dragged into fighting another war in Iraq,’ despite the possibility that militant Islamists in ISIS – a terror group purporting to have created a Muslim caliphate in the Middle East – may be perpetrating a ‘genocide.’
The White House began airlifting humanitarian aid on Thursday night to thousands of displaced religious minorities in northern Iraq, a U.S. official told MailOnline.
Among them are about 40,000 refugees who hid on a mountain after being threatened with what Obama has called a ‘potential act of genocide.’ (Read more from this story HERE)

The Obama administration handed a win to industry groups Thursday on a fiercely debated rule for smog-causing ozone pollution — leaving green groups feeling betrayed once again and threatening legal action.
The new EPA standard is stricter than one the George W. Bush administration had set in 2008, but it’s far laxer than what environmental and public health groups consider necessary to lessen illnesses like childhood asthma.
Thursday’s action came four years after the White House abruptly squelched an earlier EPA attempt to tighten the ozone rule, a move that greens still regard as one of the great betrayals of Obama’s presidency.
David Baron, the managing attorney with Earthjustice, called the standard “weak-kneed” and “a betrayal of the Clean Air Act’s promise of healthy air.” He said it is likely his group and other environmentalists would sue.
“Lowering the smog standard … is a modest step in the right direction, but it doesn’t go far enough to protect the millions of Americans living in communities with dangerously high levels of smog pollution,” said Sierra Club Executive Director Michael Brune. As Pope Francis flew back to Rome, President Obama issued a stern warning to Christians, warning them their attempts to assert their religious liberty to oppose gay rights would fail.
“We affirm that we cherish our religious freedom and are profoundly respectful of religious traditions,” he insisted during a dramatic speech at a LGTB fundraiser in New York City on Sunday night, praising the progress made on gay rights under his administration. “But we also have to say clearly that our religious freedom doesn’t grant us the freedom to deny our fellow Americans their constitutional rights.”
The fundraiser for the Democratic National Committee was specifically billed as an “LGBT gala” held in New York City in coordination with Obama’s trip to the United Nations Assembly.
During his speech, Obama asserted that his administration was respecting what he described as “genuine concerns” of religious institutions but suggested that Republicans were using the issue just to earn more votes, as they did in 2004 . . .
He ridiculed Ben Carson for suggesting that “prison turns you gay” and added that another Republican candidate had boasted of his introduction of a constitutional amendment to ban same-sex marriage, likely referring to Sen. Ted Cruz. (Read more from “Obama: Gay Rights MORE Important Than Religious Freedom” HERE)

Vladimir Putin snubbed Barack Obama and revived Russia’s historic role in the Middle East on Monday by calling for a new “broad coalition” to fight Isil based on co-operation with the Assad regime, report Richard Spencer, Harriet Alexander in New York and Roland Oliphant in Moscow.
In his long-awaited speech at the United Nations, the Russian president fiercely attacked American policy in Syria and around the world and criticized the West for “exporting social experiments” in the form of democratic revolutions, which he blamed for the Middle East crisis.
He said he had called for a new Syrian peace conference to be attended by a “contact group” of outside powers including Russia and the United States, as well as regional powers such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and Iran.
Despite the fact that Russia is not among the countries led by the US currently conducting operations against Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), Mr Putin followed up reports that it was co-ordinating intelligence sharing between Iran, Iraq and Syria by putting Moscow at the center of the world’s “war on terror”.
He went so far as to compare his plans to the alliance that fought Hitler in the Second World War. “We must address the problems that we are all facing and create a broad anti-terror coalition,” he said. President Obama won’t be able to escape the long shadow of Vladimir Putin when he heads to the United Nations General Assembly this week.
Russia is in the middle of two of the biggest crises on the planet — in Syria and Ukraine — and those vexing challenges will be front and center when Obama meets with Putin Monday on the sidelines of the annual diplomatic gathering in New York.
“When we look at conflict, the president will certainly be focused on the situation in Syria and Iraq, and he’ll be focused on the situation in Ukraine,” White House deputy national security advisor Ben Rhodes told reporters this week.
“Our focus is going to be on the fact that there has to be a cost for a nation like Russia that is violating the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine.”
“At the same time, in Syria, even as we have an aggressive military effort underway against ISIL, the only lasting resolution to that challenge is for there to be a political settlement, as well,” he added, using an alternate acronym for the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria (ISIS). Conservative YouTube sensation CJ Pearson, a 13-year-old black middle schooler from Georgia, revealed today that he’s been blocked from following President Obama on Twitter. He’s also unable to view the president’s tweets.
“It’s an honor,” Pearson tells The American Mirror, insisting he did nothing to warrant being blocked, except his most recent video released last week.
In the video, he accuses the president of playing politics with the Texas student who was suspended for bringing a clock to school that appeared to be a bomb. (Read more from “Revenge: Obama BLOCKS Teenage Black Conservative on Twitter for Doing This” HERE)

The biggest policy fight simmering in the upcoming budget bill is the debate over continued funding for Planned Parenthood in light of the gruesome videos exposing their trail of blood at the expense of taxpayers. But conservatives must not forget the other trail of blood – the one connecting the White House directly to the deaths of numerous American citizens at the hands of violent illegal aliens.
That is the trail created by Obama’s impeachable offense from last November when he unilaterally abolished the Secure Communities program, one of the most effective law enforcement programs in the field, which facilitated coordination between local law enforcement to share information through the universal fingerprint database on illegal aliens held in their prisons. Although the courts halted Obama’s issuance of work permits and Social Security cards to illegal aliens, he was not challenged on his illegal cancelling of the Secure Communities program.
Now, Obama is prohibiting ICE agents from putting out detainers on most criminal aliens, and the tragic results are self-evident. We’ve witnessed a torrent of cases where illegal aliens were arrested multiple times for violent crimes only to be released without an ICE detainer and set free into our communities to kill innocent Americans. Recent data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC), an arm of Syracuse University, now shows that Obama can declare mission accomplished – at the expense of the sovereignty and security of the American people:
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) issued 7,993 detainers during April 2015, according to the latest data available from the agency. This is 30 percent fewer than the 11,355 detainers ICE issued in October 2014 — the month prior to the November 20, 2014 announcement of a new DHS policy restricting detainer use and discontinuing its Secure Communities (SC) program.
Overall, ICE detainers declined 73% from the peak in March 2011 before the first round of amnesties was fully implemented.
These disturbing numbers follow the release of an unclassified Drug Enforcement Administration report showing the expansion of major drug cartels in U.S. cities. The Washington Times also reported that 20% of all illegal aliens caught at the border last year had criminal records. It’s pretty safe to say that with such a prevalence of violent individuals coming over the border, there are likely more that have not been caught. Think of all the violent drug cartel members who will roam free as a result of this policy.
Fox News has also done an analysis of illegal immigrant crime data, and while noting that the federal government has done their best to obscure the information, here is what they discovered:
Illegal aliens account for 13.6% of all offenders sentenced for crimes committed in the U.S., even though they only represent 3.5% of the population.
Illegals account for 12% of murder sentences, 20% of kidnapping sentences, and 16% of drug trafficking sentences.
There are 2.1 million illegal and legal immigrants convicted of crimes, but 1.2 million criminal aliens remain at large in the U.S.
Obama has replaced the Secure Communities program with the Priority Enforcement Program (PEP) as a cover to turn a blind eye to all criminal aliens under the guise of “prioritizing” the worst offenders. As the House Judiciary Committee has found, the PEP program ignores even the most dangerous criminal aliens unless they have already been convicted, not just arrested and housed in a local jail or state prison. Even those detainers are issued on a “voluntary” basis, in other words, ratifying the sanctuary city policies of states like California.
Consequently, the issue of sanctuary cities per se has now become irrelevant because it is downstream from the broader problem of the sanctuary nation that Obama has put into place. Appallingly, Secretary of Homeland Security Jeh Johnson had the nerve to feign outrage over San Francisco’s policies when he is implementing those same priorities nationwide. It is unconscionable for Republicans to fund DHS without defunding the PEP ‘amnesty for murderers program’ and conditioning that funding to the reinstatement of Secure Communities.
How many more Americans will die simply because this president refuses to obey the law? (For more from the author of “Obama’s Sanctuary Nation” please click HERE)
Fox News contributor and Town Hall editor Mary Katherine Ham lost her husband, White House staffer Jake Brewer, in a cycling accident on Saturday.
Brewer, 34, was participating in the 150 mile Ride to Conquer Cancer in the Washington D.C. area when he lost control of his bike and swerved into an oncoming car.
Ham wrote about her husband in an Instagram post on Sunday: “I lost part of my heart and the father of my sweet babies.” Mary Katherine, 35, and Jake were married in 2011 and have a 2-year-old daughter, Georgia, together. She is expecting their second child in two months . . .
Ham’s fellow Town Hall editor, Guy Benson has set up a GoFundMe page to support the education of the couple’s children, which has reached over $150,000 of its $200,000 goal in less than 24 hours. Senior Editor Ed Morrissey wrote on their website Sunday: “Mary Katharine faces some very difficult challenges for her children and herself without Jake, but we can help take worries over education off the table for her.”
President Obama released a statement on Sunday, which reads, in part:
I am heartbroken at the tragic loss of one of my advisors, Jake Brewer. We set out to recruit the best of the best to join their government and help us harness the power of technology and data to innovate new solutions for the 21st century. Simply put, Jake was one of the best. Armed with a brilliant mind, a big heart, and an insatiable desire to give back, Jake devoted his life to empowering people and making government work better for them… I’ve often said that today’s younger generation is smarter, more determined, and more capable of making a difference than I was as a young man. Jake was proof of that. Michelle and I are praying for all of Jake’s family and his many friends, most of all his wife, Mary Katharine Ham, their daughter, Georgia, and their growing family. They’ll always have a family here at the White House.

White House Press Secretary Josh Earnest is denouncing Donald Trump for failing to correct a man at a political rally who said that Obama was a Muslim and not born in America.
“Are we surprised that this happened at a Donald Trump rally?” he asked, claiming Trump’s base was characterized by “offensive views” such as the ones expressed at the rally.
Then Earnest blamed the entire Republican party for failing to stand up to Trump, asserting that none would want to offend the same voters that made up his political base.
“What’s also unfortunate is that Mr. Trump isn’t the first Republican politician to countenance these kinds of views in order to win votes,” Earnest said. “In fact, that’s precisely what every Republican presidential candidate is doing when they decline to denounce Mr. Trump’s cynical strategy.”
Earnest went further, accusing Republicans of defending the Confederate flag and highlighted the racial background of House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, telling reporters that they also blocked immigration reform and supported reforms to the voting rights act.
