Capitol Protest: ‘Qanon Shaman’ Will Likely Serve Over 3 Years

The “QAnon Shaman” — known for storming the US Capitol in a horned coyote-fur headdress and American-flag paint — pleaded guilty to an obstruction charge in federal court Friday and will serve at least 3 1/2 years in prison, according to a report.

Jacob Chansley, 34, of Phoenix, copped to a count of obstruction of an official proceeding, one of six charges he faced for his role in the US Capitol riot on Jan.6, according to CBS News.

Under federal guidelines, he’s expected to be sentenced to 3 1/2 to a little over four years behind bars minus the eight months of time he’s already served, the outlet reported. He has also agreed to pay $2,000 in restitution.

Chansley — who became the face of the riot after wild photos of him clutching a spear as he breached the Senate Chamber were widely circulated — was initially hit with charges including civil disorder, violent entry and disorderly conduct. Previously, he faced up to 28 years behind bars.

His lawyer, Al Watkins, says Chansley is “non-violent, peaceful and possessed genuine mental health issues” at the time of the conspiracy-theory-fueled building breach. (Read more from “Capitol Protest: ‘Qanon Shaman’ Will Likely Serve Over 3 Years” HERE)

Constitution Expert: Capitol Cop’s Reason for Shooting Babbitt Is Dangerous

A constitutional expert is warning the excuse used by Capitol police officer Michael Byrd for shooting an unarmed protester at the January riot in Washington is more than dangerous.

“Under this standard, hundreds of rioters could have been gunned down on Jan. 6 – and officers in cities such as Seattle or Portland, Ore., could have killed hundreds of violent protesters who tried to burn courthouses, took over city halls or occupied police stations during last summer’s widespread rioting,” said constitutional expert Jonathan Turley.

“In all of those protests, a small number of activists from both political extremes showed up prepared for violence and pushed others to riot. According to the DOJ’s Byrd review, officers in those cities would have been required to see a weapon in order to use lethal force in defending buildings,” he said.

A report at Legal Insurrection explained the issue has arisen again because Byrd has publicly identified himself as the cop who shot and killed an unarmed Ashli Babbitt, a veteran, on that day.

Report: FBI Finds ‘Scant’ Evidence Capitol Riot Was Centrally Organized Plot

The FBI has found little evidence that the Capitol riot was a planned and coordinated effort to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, according to a new report.

The report from Reuters cites “four current and former law enforcement officials” who are allegedly either directly involved in or briefed on the sweeping Capitol riot investigations, and it states that the bureau “has found scant evidence that the Jan. 6 attack on the U.S. Capitol was the result of an organized plot to overturn the presidential election result.”

The FBI “at this point believes the violence was not centrally coordinated by far-right groups or prominent supporters of then-President Donald Trump,” according to the outlet. It also reported that “FBI investigators did find that cells of protesters, including followers of the far-right Oath Keepers and Proud Boys groups, had aimed to break into the Capitol. But they found no evidence that the groups had serious plans about what to do if they made it inside.”

Senior lawmakers have reportedly been briefed in detail of the results of the FBI’s investigation.

One source said there has been little to no recent talk at the higher levels of the Justice Department about filing charges in the realm of seditious conspiracy and that racketeering charges have also been decided against. The outlet said “law enforcement sources” told them no charges related to an individual or group playing “a central role in organizing or leading the riot” appear to be pending. Accused Capitol Rioter May Go Back to Jail for Watching Mike Lindell

An Iowa man accused of participating in the Jan. 6 riot at the Capitol may end up back in jail because he wanted to watch MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell’s “cyber symposium.”

Doug Jensen of Des Moines, Iowa, violated a condition of his home-monitoring release which prohibited him from from using the internet so he could watch online content promoting unfounded fraud allegations about the 2020 election, Iowa Starting Line reported, citing federal court documents. Jensen was released from jail in Washington, D.C., July 13, into his wife’s custody only to be discovered watching content on the video streaming site Rumble Aug. 13, according to a court filing.

Jensen is accused by prosecutors of leading a mob after Capitol Police Officer Eugene Goodman on Jan. 6 while carrying a knife in his pocket.

Jensen admitted to the court officer that he’d spent two days watching Lindell’s symposium, at which Lindell promised to deliver evidence that the 2020 election had been rigged against former President Donald Trump by actors from China and elsewhere in the world. DOJ Shuts Down Investigation Into Capitol Police Shooting of Ashli Babbitt

Months after the Department of Justice (DOJ) opted not to charge the unnamed U.S. Capitol Police officer who killed Ashli Babbitt on Jan. 6, a memo obtained by NBC News indicates the investigation will be fully closed.

Babbitt, a 35-year-old Air Force veteran, was shot by the “service pistol” of an officer during the Jan. 6 Capitol riot. She was trying to climb through a smashed glass door near the Speaker’s lobby. After receiving assistance from a Capitol Police emergency response team, Babbitt died at Washington Hospital Center.

The memo, written by the commander of the Capitol Police’s Office of Personal Responsibility, states that “no further action will be taken in this matter,” according to NBC. The information comes on the heels of the DOJ announcing in April that it would not levy charges against the officer.

“Specifically, the investigation revealed no evidence to establish that, at the time the officer fired a single shot at Ms. Babbitt, the officer did not reasonably believe that it was necessary to do so in self-defense or in defense of the Members of Congress and others evacuating the House Chamber,” the department said in a press release at the time. If You Don’t Suspect Deep State Provocation at the Jan. 6 Riot, Start Paying Attention

By Townhall. It’s not only reasonable but required to ask at the outset of leftists’ 1/6 “Truth Commission”: How much of what led to Donald Trump supporters “storming the capitol” was a setup?

. . .For readers who have been under a rock for the last five years, let’s review just the recent highlights of spy agency, Democrat, and media collusion that would lead one to suspect the Jan. 6 events as part of this pattern.

Russiagate is the prime example. This was designed to make Americans believe that if Donald Trump won in 2016, his presidency was illicitly installed by foreign actors. It was a complete fabrication of the Hillary Clinton campaign and the Democratic National Committee, in collusion with the Obama White House, and highly successful. It dragged the nation on a five-year goose chase costing billions of dollars and hamstringing the national government — not coincidentally during a rare, ill-used, and short-lived span during which Republicans controlled both Congress and the presidency. . .

All these tactics, of course, are hallmarks of totalitarian dictatorships. Yes, all that fear-mongering pounded into our national psyche about Donald Trump as an “authoritarian” “fascist”? It’s clearly projection by people deploying actually authoritarian and fascist methods of governance, like spying on political opponents, surveilling journalists, fabricating smears, and using leaks and “confidential human sources” to frame people as nefarious actors.

All this certainly makes one think twice about many facts related to January 6, such as these noted by Glenn Greenwald: “Numerous requests prior to the event for an additional police force and national guard activation were rejected by the civilian command structure. Social media companies were actively feeding information to law enforcement about what was being planned by conspirators. We also know that the FBI extensively monitors social media through a variety of agents and tools.” (Read more from “If You Don’t Suspect Deep State Provocation at the Jan. 6 Riot, Start Paying Attention” HERE)

Police Union Goes to Bat for Chicago Officer Charged in Capitol Protest

By CNN. The Chicago chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police union is going to bat for one of its members who stormed the US Capitol and now might lose his job with the Chicago Police Department. . .

CPD Officer Karol Chwiesiuk was charged in June with two misdemeanors after breaching the Capitol and the office of Democratic Sen. Jeff Merkley. Prosecutors said in charging documents that Chwiesiuk used the N-word when bragging to a friend about his actions at the Capitol that day, saying, “n—a don’t snitch.” He hasn’t yet entered a plea to the charges.

He wasn’t accused of violent crimes, so he was released by a judge and ordered not to have any guns in the home and to give up the firearm owner ID card that is required under Illinois law. But in new court filings, Chwiesiuk asked for permission to retake possession of the ID card, because he says he needs it to keep his job, even though he was moved to desk duty and doesn’t carry a gun.

The vice president for the Chicago chapter of the Fraternal Order of Police union sent a letter to court officials saying that the union will try to block Chwiesiuk’s possible firing and will “start the grievance process to get Officer Chwiesiuk into a pay-status” if he gets back his firearm ID card. Poll: Large Majority Believe January 6 Committee is Biased in Favor of Democrats

A Thursday poll shows that 58 percent of voters believe the January 6 Committee is biased towards Democrats.

“Fifty-eight percent of voters polled said they believed the committee set up by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) was biased, while 42 percent said they thought it was fair,” according to a Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll.

Codirector of the Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll survey Mark Penn told the Hill that “Americans want an examination of the riots over the summer and the origins of the virus over investigating Jan. 6th.”

“The voters reject the Pelosi move to toss Republicans off of the committee and see it now as just a partisan exercise,” he said.

The poll’s findings come as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) blocked House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) appointments to the committee in which she stated out of “concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives [Jim] Banks and [Jim] Jordan to the Select Committee.” (Read more from “Poll: Large Majority Believe January 6 Committee is Biased in Favor of Democrats” HERE)

Eerie: Fourth Police Officer Who Responded to Capitol Riot Dies of Suicide

A Washington, DC police officer who responded to the deadly riot at the US Capitol on Jan. 6 took his own life last month, making him the fourth law enforcement officer who took part in the events of that day to die by his own hand.

Officer Kyle DeFreytag helped enforce the curfew put in place after hundreds of supporters of then-President Donald Trump breached the Capitol building in an effort to disrupt the certification of the 2020 election results, The Metropolitan Police Department (MPD) told WUSA.

DeFreytag died on July 10. He was described as a Pennsylvania native and a five-year veteran of the DC force. . .

Earlier Monday, the Metropolitan Police confirmed that Officer Gunther Hashida, part of an Emergency Response Team within the department’s Special Operations Division, was found dead in his home last week. A GoFundMe page set up by a relative describes Hashida as “a devoted and loving husband and father” who “worked to serve and protect the public.” The page had raised more than $71,000 as of Monday night. Report Reveals Shocking Double Standards for Bringing U.S. Rioters to Justice

One would think a major report from a group representing America’s top law enforcement leaders analyzing the widespread riots of 2020 would have garnered significant media attention. One also would think such a report would garner widespread discussion after the January 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capital due to the parallels between it and the 2020 riots. Given our hyper-partisan environment, however, one would be woefully wrong.

Specifically, back in October 2020, the Major Cities Chiefs (MCC) released a comprehensive report full of data from dozens of cities that provides deep insights into the 2020 riots that plagued America after George Floyd’s death in Minnesota. The MCC’s “Report on the 2020 Protests and Civil Unrest” served as an excellent after-action report that cities, states, and the federal government could use to reform their practices and, equally importantly, to prepare for future riots.

With the ongoing hunt for and prosecution of January 6 participants and recent actions by Democrat Speaker Nancy Pelosi to veto Republican Kevin McCarthy’s choices for the January 6 Commission, the MCC report has become more relevant than ever. The sheer similarities and differences between what happened with and to the participants of the 2020 riots compared to the January 6 riot and rioters are, frankly, shocking. . .

Now here’s a prime example of dissimilar treatment for far worse actions. The January 6 riot involved no guns or fires among protesters, only makeshift weapons like flag poles, batons, and objects from the area.

In contrast, the 2020 riots involved guns, incendiary devices, lasers, paint bombs, and fireworks that were used to torch buildings and cars, hurt police officers, and destroy meaningful parts of many U.S. cities. Despite the far greater violence and destruction the 2020 rioters perpetrated, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) haven’t hunted those rioters down with anywhere near the vigor and vim used against what are in many cases at most trespassers. Support for Jan. 6 Probe Slips After Cops’ Emotional Testimony

An emotional hearing this week in which police officers attacked in the Capitol riot testified before a House select committee investigating the events of Jan. 6 turned more Americans against the need for the probe, according to a Morning Consult poll.

Among voters of all parties, 53 percent supported the investigation, down from 66 percent in the survey in June and 58 percent just a week ago. Four out of five Democrats were in favor, while only a quarter of Republicans were, along with half of independents.

Only 49 percent of those polled said they had watched all or even part of the committee hearing that dominated the news cycle on Tuesday.

And the survey had more bad news for Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.), who appointed all of the members of the committee, including the two Republicans, Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois: The number of voters who blame former President Donald Trump for the riot fell to 56 percent from 61 percent in June.
