Is This a Joke? 27 Percent of People Think Santa Should Be Female or Gender Neutral

For a long time, Santa Claus has been portrayed as an older man with a hefty build and big white beard but a new poll finds that some feel that Santa should be rebranded as a woman or gender neutral.

After years of this image, Graphic Springs, a logo design company, surveyed hundreds to rebrand Santa and give him a more modern image.

The survey polled approximately 400 people from the United States and United Kingdom. Then, 4,000 people voted on the most popular version of the Santa they designed from the survey.

“Modern Santa” has tattoos, a stylishly-trimmed beard, skinny jeans, sneakers, and a hoverboard. He’s tech-savvy and looks like he could easily feature in GQ magazine.

A new survey found that over 27 percent of people asked would rebrand Santa Claus as a woman or gender-neutral. (Read more from “Is This a Joke? 27 Percent of People Think Santa Should Be Female or Gender Neutral” HERE)

‘Christmas Miracle’: Mall Overturns Nativity Set Ban After Christians Protest With Living Nativity

By Life Site News. A shopping mall in Scotland has overturned its ban on displaying a Christmas nativity scene after Christians protested the decision by staging a living nativity, right within the mall.

Thistles Centre in Stirling released a statement today saying that they had changed their minds and would allow a representative from the Legion of Mary to set up a nativity scene as part of their Christmas decor. . .

On Monday, Scottish Catholics John Mallon and Elena Feick protested actively by visiting the mall dressed as St. Joseph and the Blessed Virgin Mary. Mallon chatted with shoppers and discussed the “crib controversy” with them. A video of the dynamic duo “looking for a place at the inn” has been viewed thousands of times on social media. . .

The Scotsman has reported that the Archdiocese of St. Andrews & Edinburgh has likewise expressed great satisfaction that Thistles Centre has responded with “generosity and inclusivity” to Christians.

“The management of the Thistles Centre, along with owners Standard Life Investments, are to be commended and congratulated for listening to the general public and responding with such generosity and inclusivity, recognising that contemporary Scotland should be a place that both respects and upholds religious liberty in the public square,” an archdiocesan spokesman said. Washington City Removes Nativity Scene From Public Park After Complaints

By Fox News. A Nativity scene in a Woodland, Washington, park was removed Tuesday after city officials said they received complaints questioning the Christmas display’s presence on public land.

Officials said the Nativity scene – featuring a manger, baby Jesus, Joseph, Mary, the three wise men, an angel and several genuflecting animals – would be moved to a privately-owned vacant lot.

The decision came after the city’s attorney advised officials that keeping the display on public property was a violation of federal and state laws.

“I wouldn’t have chosen to do this, but it’s in the best interest of the city to do so,” Mayor Will Finn told Fox 12. “The feedback I’m getting is that it’s in a better spot.” . . .

The city had allowed it to be displayed at Horseshoe Lake Park for the past few decades, with Finn estimating the manger had been set up in the park every holiday season for the last 40 years. (Read more from “Washington City Removes Nativity Scene From Public Park After Complaints” HERE)

Radio Station Lifts Ban on Popular Christmas Song

Sometimes the crowd is full of stupid. But sometimes the crowd is full of wisdom. A Bay Area radio station’s decision to lift the ban on the popular Christmas song “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” due to an audience poll is an example of the latter.

According to CBS News, San Francisco’s KOIT radio station will be returning the allegedly controversial “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” to the airwaves this season after audiences overwhelmingly expressed disapproval of the ban.

The ban occurred last week when KOIT Program Director Brian Figula announced the station would be shelving the song while asking listeners for feedback. In the end, “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” won the day. . .

“After hearing from thousands of Bay Area listeners via polling, phone calls, emails and social media, KOIT has concluded that the vast majority consider the song to be a valuable part of their holiday tradition, and they still want to hear it on the radio,” Figula said in a statement on Monday. . .

“KOIT’s listeners have spoken, and the overwhelming message is they do want to hear ‘Baby, It’s Cold Outside’ on our station, as they have throughout the years,” he said. “More than seven out of every ten listeners who responded said although some lyrics of the song may reflect a different era and a different sensibility than today, still they love the tradition and history of the song, and want to hear it as part of their holiday season.” (Read more from “Radio Station Lifts Ban on Popular Christmas Song” HERE)

You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch: Arsonist Goes on Christmas Decoration Burning Spree

A 29-year-old South Carolina man whom some might describe as being as cuddly as a cactus and as charming as an eel sought to steal Christmas from his fellow neighbors by allegedly lighting fire to their decorations.

According to The State, the real-life Grinch, known to police as Cameron Lewis Baun, allegedly “burned down the Christmas decorations [in a] suburban Charleston neighborhood.” Baun was arrested on Friday after police received a call about a crazed arsonist setting fire to multiple properties in the Arbor Walk community in Summerville. . .

As to what motivated Baun to go on the alleged arson spree remains unclear at this time. Police have not yet ruled out Baun’s intense hatred for Christmas as a possibility … or his heart being two sizes too small. Regardless of the motive, somewhere along the line, police say he got an idea …

As noted by Newsweek, Baun is just one of many Grinch-like figures who are accused of trying to ruin Christmas with their own brand of Grinchery this year. In New York, a substitute teacher lost her job when she told a class of first-graders that Santa Claus did not exist. Parents were so outraged that the school principal issued a public apology.

“As a father of four myself, I am truly aware of the sensitive nature of this announcement,” said Principal Michael Raj, “I am sending this letter so that you are aware of the situation and if the conversation comes up at home over the next few days you can take appropriate steps to maintain the childhood innocence of the holiday season.” (Read more from “You’re a Mean One, Mr. Grinch: Arsonist Goes on Christmas Decoration Burning Spree” HERE)

Professor Says God Did Not Have Consent for Virgin Birth

In what is presumably a “MeToo” homage, Eric Sprankle attempted on Twitter this week to redefine Christ’s miraculous conception as something nonconsensual. . .

Sprankle’s Twitter profile lists him as an associate professor of clinical psychology and sexuality studies. It also lists sex workers’ rights, cats, secularism, Poe, Manson and also Ave Satanas, which means “Hail Satan.”

He is identified as an associate professor at Minnesota State University, Mankato, on the university’s website. His personal webpage states that he is “promoting sexual health by reducing shame and respecting bodily autonomy.” . . .

Christians are regular convenient marks for blasphemy and ridicule – given Christ’s call to turn the other cheek. But during Advent it seems to ramp up, polluting the time of anticipation of Christ’s birth each year.

. . .

Another post just days before Sprankle’s claim that God lacked consent with Mary was also instructive:

Christmas Ruined? Teacher Upsets Students by Saying Santa Isn’t Real

By NJ News 12. A Morris County school district is apologizing for a substitute teacher who told first-grade students that Santa Claus isn’t real. . .

At least one parent told News 12 New Jersey that her 6-year-old daughter Addriana was extremely upset by the ordeal.

“I was heartbroken. You know, my daughter is the hugest believer in the whole Christmas spirit – Santa, giving,” says Myra Sansone-Aboyoun.

Sansone-Aboyoun says that she assured her daughter that, yes, there is a Santa Claus.

Montville Schools Superintendent Rene Rovtar said in a statement that she was “troubled and disheartened by this incident.” Rovtar explained that “childhood wonder associated with all holidays and traditions” is special to her. Radio Station Bans Classic Christmas Song Because It Allegedly Promotes Date Rape

. . .The classic seasonal song “Baby It’s Cold Outside” has now been banned by a Cleveland radio station after listeners complained it allegedly promotes date rape, according to CBS News.

“Star 102 Cleveland listeners raised concerns about the lyrics of the song ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside,’ with some saying the words send the wrong message in the era of the #MeToo movement,” reports the outlet.

On Tuesday, radio host Glenn Anderson wrote how the station came to the decision to ultimately kick the classic song off its Christmas music roster. “We used to play the song ‘Baby It’s Cold Outside,’ but you’re the Christmas Executive Officer at Star 102 and you told us it’s no longer appropriate,” he said. “I gotta be honest, I didn’t understand why the lyrics were so bad…Until I read them.” . . .

“Now, I do realize that when the song was written in 1944, it was a different time, but now while reading it, it seems very manipulative and wrong,” Anderson wrote. “The world we live in is extra sensitive now, and people get easily offended, but in a world where #MeToo has finally given women the voice they deserve, the song has no place. What do you think?”

As anybody who has ever heard “Baby Its Cold Outside” can attest, the song is a flirtatious duet between a man and a woman in a cozy cabin on a cold winter’s night. As the woman prepares to leave, the man attempts to charm her into staying, using the snowy weather as an excuse. Those who claim the song promotes date rape overlook the part where the woman sings “Baby, it’s cold outside” in unison with her male partner, signifying that the two were always in synch. CBS profiled how the song morphed from a flirtatious song in the 1940’s to some sort of date rape anthem in the #MeToo era. Something Bizarre Happened After the Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at the White House

President Donald Trump abandoned his protective press pool after the Christmas lighting ceremony at the White House and sped away in his motorcade, according to social media reports.

Anita Kumar, the White House correspondent for McClatchy, tweeted about being left behind in the protective pool and how unprecedented and bizarre it is. . .

The 96th annual Christmas tree lighting ceremony apparently went off without a hitch, but the president’s motorcade left hastily afterward. The White House provided no details as to why the president was whisked away to the White House.

Trump led the audience assembled in a countdown until first lady Melania Trump flipped the switch to turn on the lights on the Christmas tree.

Steve Herman, the White House bureau chief for The Voice of America, explained that the White House works with the Secret Service in order to provide the protective pool an opportunity to cover the president from the motorcade.

Mystery ‘Santa Claus’ Buys Entire Stock of Layaway Items for Walmart Customers

Shoppers in Derby, Vermont, are thankful for one mystery man who picked up the tab for their layaway items at a Walmart near the Canadian border.

The unidentified man paid off the entire stock of layaway items, WCAX reports.

“I don’t even think I can find the words to say,” said shopper Julie Gates. Gates was shopping last Thursday when an unknown man offered to pay for all of her items on layaway.

“This can’t be; who can afford to just pay for everyone’s layaway? And he said, ‘Santa Claus can,’” said Gates.

“It was kind of like surreal when she said, ‘Oh, no balance due,’ or whatever, then it was really a reality,” said Tammy Desautels, another shopper who had her things paid for. A third shopper, Sandra Cortez, told WCAX she thought this extraordinary act of generosity was a rumor.

Walmart did not say how much money the mystery “Santa Claus” spent or how many people were given free gifts, but some of the items cost several hundred dollars.

“There were people ahead of me that were eight-, nine-hundred-dollar layaways,” Gates said. “I get goose bumps thinking that that is the true magic of Christmas, that’s the Christmas spirit walking amongst us,” she added.

The overwhelming feeling in Derby is thankfulness. “I want to thank him,” said Cortez. (For more from the author of “Mystery ‘Santa Claus’ Buys Entire Stock of Layaway Items for Walmart Customers” please click HERE)

Time for Grown-Up Christians to Confront Materialism

Linda Thompson-Jenner and David Foster wrote a song entitled “My Grown-Up Christmas List” about three decades ago. No, it wasn’t the kind of “grown-up” list that Hugh Hefner or Howard Stern would have handed to Santa. It was about world peace, enduring marriages, friendship, justice and emotional healing – that sort of thing.

But it was also about Christians growing up, emerging from the materialism that gradually overtook American childhood – and children’s Christmas – in the 20th Century. “Heaven surely knows that packages and bows can never heal a hurting heart.” It was a prayer, actually. Heartfelt, poignant, and yet optimistic.

But 30 years later, materialism has strengthened its grip on Christians. Adults are, if anything, more materialistic than children. Our Christmas list needs to grow up.

We have a family friend who is very “churchy.” She sprinkles her conversation with Biblical aphorisms, enforces modesty of speech and dress in her family, and rarely misses Sunday worship. But she shops at Target.

I don’t know how she could be unaware of the boycott against Target, or of the reason for it: Target allows grown men into women’s restrooms and changing areas, no questions asked.

The American Family Association has documented several incidents of menace and voyeurism against girls and women in Target restrooms, in Texas, Oregon and Idaho, to name a few. But the corporation has refused to revoke its dangerous policy, and is counting on a strong Christmas shopping season to redeem its disappointing sales thus far this (boycott) year.

How heartbreaking that a Christmas tradition would strengthen depraved executives against decent believers, against girls who just want privacy where they remove their clothes. But how decent are Christians, anyway, who continue to shop at Target? Have the libertines called our bluff? Have they correctly calculated that we don’t really care?

Last month in Massachusetts, a man dressed as a woman followed a 10-year-old girl into the ladies’ room in a Target store. He knocked on the door of the stall where the girl sat. He complimented her T-shirt, offered her candy and changed his clothes while they were alone in the restroom, her father waiting outside. Is that OK with Christian shoppers?

Target’s Christian clientele would deny, of course, that they intend any endorsement of the corporation’s policy to allow men into the women’s restrooms. And that may be accurate. But they have to stare pretty hard at the ceiling to avoid seeing that their patronage accommodates and acquiesces in the worst impulses of Target executives. By prospering Target executives, Christian shoppers are giving the gift of impunity, and inviting further victimization.

Bible Belt shoppers may calculate that transgenders are rare in this zip code, so the Target policy’s not a serious problem here. But that’s faulty reasoning, a non sequitur. The problem at Target isn’t so-called transgenders. The problem is predatory male aggressors who are empowered and emboldened by Target’s restroom policy to menace girls and women behind closed doors, undeterred by security, retail staff or the victims’ own male family members. It’s a green light for voyeurs, exhibitionists and assailants.

At the very least, Christians who shop there have to admit that they have subordinated their values to their materialistic desires. Whatever they’re selling in those stores must be more important to them than decency, privacy, modesty and the physical safety of girls and women. The only alternative to that conclusion is that they do not hold those values in the first place.

It’s not just Target. In February, Walgreen’s announced it too will allow men in the ladies’ room in its 8,100 stores. They announced it in self-flattering language about equality and respect, but the bottom line is that Walgreen’s executives have shrugged off the privacy and physical safety of girls and women in 8,100 restrooms nationwide.

It’s not always clear where a Christian should shop. Human Rights Campaign, a potent Sodomite advocacy organization reports this year that 609 major businesses earned a perfect rating for “LGBTQ equality.” The T in that acronym is for “transgendered.”

Sometimes it’s unclear because a company has some Christian-friendly practices and policies, as well as some hostility. According to conservative watchdog 2ndVote, Wal-Mart contributes to three pro-abortion organizations and two prolife organizations. It contributes to two organizations that favor same-sex marriage, and to one that favors traditional marriage.

The American Family Association posts an annual “Naughty or Nice” list that rates retailers on their attitude toward Christmas. If the retailer is reluctant to use the word Christmas in its promotions and marketing materials, it ends up on the naughty list.

This year, that would be Walgreen’s, Family Dollar, Nordstom, Gap, Best Buy, Foot Locker, Barnes & Noble and 11 others. They list eight stores that are “marginal” (neither naughty nor nice), including Kohl’s, Dollar General, CVS and Safeway. The good news is that there are 48 retailers on the nice list.

There’s certainly room for disagreement whether we want Christmas associated with commercial activity in the first place. It’s not entirely clear that we should direct our patronage to retailers who say “Merry Christmas” instead of “happy holidays.” But this much is clear: it’s time for grown-up Christians to re-think our Christmas list.
