CNN Sounds Alarm: ‘Disastrous Day’ for Dems’ 2022 Chances

Democrats’ prospects in the 2022 midterm elections haven’t looked good for some time, but on Thursday the party was delivered an “absolute body blow” with the news that the U.S. economy shrank 1.4% in the first quarter.

That’s the assessment of CNN political analyst Chris Cillizza, who formerly wrote for the Washington Post political blog The Fix.

In an analysis for CNN.com, he wrote that “in a decidedly ill omen, the GDP shrinkage was the worst performance of the measure since the economy went into recession amid the shutting down of the country in the spring of 2020.”

Cillizza noted that Gallup polling data already indicated Americans have extremely low confidence in the economy.

In an April survey, 42% of Americans said economic conditions were “poor” and another 38% said that they were only “fair.” A mere 2% said economic conditions were “excellent,” while just 18% said they were “good.” Further, 76% of Americans said the economy was getting worse, compared to 20% who said it was improving. These Tweets Are the Eulogy CNN Plus Deserved and We All Needed; CNN+ Employees React to Streaming Platform’s Chaotic End

After a spectacularly failed run of only 23 days, the streaming service that launched because someone at CNN was convinced Americans wanted to hear more of the likes of Brian Stelter and Chris Wallace has come to an awkward end.

As The Federalist’s own Books Editor Mark Hemingway noted, you don’t have to be happy about ordinary workers losing their jobs to recognize that the higher-ups at CNN and in the rest of the corporate media have been working overtime to deserve the frustration people feel about their propaganda, and to call out the company’s ridiculous lack of self-awareness that led to the demise of CNN Plus. In that vein, here are some of the best reactions on Twitter today to CNN’s latest embarrassment.

Some pointed to CNN’s projections of a “long run of success” for the failed project as yet another example of the network’s lies.

CNN+ Employees React to Streaming Platform’s Chaotic End

By Townhall. The unceremonious death of CNN+ this week put the fledgling steaming platform out of its misery after a period time that didn’t surpass the length of, among other things, Kim Kardashian’s marriage to Kris Humphries, has unleashed renewed chaos within CNN.

The “most trusted” name in news has had a rough go of things in recent months, plagued by scandals, a parent company merger that upended the network’s plans, lagging viewership, and a new boss. The launch and quick end to CNN+ has a broader impact than most immediately think of — it’s not just the hosts who lost a platform and who will be fine in the long run, it’s the staff hired as part of CNN’s investment of hundreds of millions of dollars to launch the streaming platform who now bear the brunt of CNN’s incompetence.

According to Axios, “About 350 of the 700 people that work for CNN+ will be laid off with pay and benefits for the next 90 days” and “any employee that doesn’t find a new role with the network will be granted at least six months’ severance.” Reactions within CNN are, predictably, not great.

“This is f***ing crazy, it is nuts,” a CNN insider told The New York Post. Newly out of work CNN+ employees are “aghast and furious” that their leadership could muck things up so badly.

As The Post explains, “Network insiders were horrified to learn that all junior staffers at the streaming service were let go. The roughly 300 staffers were offered six months’ severance as well as first dibs on job opportunities within CNN, according to sources.” Why someone would choose to work at CNN+ in the first place is a head-scratcher, but it seems unlikely that many would want to stick around in another department at CNN given the network’s disastrous handling of its streaming platform. Look Who Ended Their Indoor Mask Mandate…Again

. . .Philadelphia was the only city to reinstate a mask mandate, but it’s gone now. Yeah, it didn’t even last as long as CNN+. The mandate is gone because cases had leveled out. That’s not possible. That’s science fiction. This can’t happen in a matter of days; this is the so-called experts’ own data on the virus which has been disseminated ad nauseum. This is how you know (again) the whole playbook was about the maximization of government power (via CBS Philly):

Philadelphia lifted its indoor mask mandate, but residents and visitors are strongly encouraged to still wear a mask in indoor public spaces, the city’s health department announced on Friday. The Board of Health voted to rescind the mandate.

Further details will be announced during a 10:30 a.m. briefing that will be streamed live on CBS News Philly.

Health officials say the decision to rescind the order is due to decreasing hospitalizations and a leveling of case counts, not criticism from businesses and residents.

LOL: CNN+ Shutting Down

Warner Bros. Discovery will reportedly shut down CNN+ 23 days after announcing the streaming service.

Warner Bros. Discovery will nix the streaming service on April 30 just after CNN after having fewer than 10,000 daily views, according to reports. The move comes after CNN was acquired by the parent company, Variety reported:

Spokespersons for CNN and Warner Bros. Discovery could not be reached for immediate comment. The decision puts an end to a venture that people familiar with the matter say rankled David Zaslav, the new CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery, from the start. Zaslav was annoyed by the decison of Jason Kilar, the former CEO of WarnerMedia when it was owned by AT&T, to launch CNN+ just weeks before Discovery was set to take over operations.

Chris Licht, the incoming CEO of CNN, sent a memo to staffers Thursday morning about “an important meeting” to be held at noon, and is at that time expected to inform employees about the decision, these people said. Licht has already told Andrew Morse, the CNN executive vice president who oversees the newly-launched streaming-video outlet, of the decision, these people said. Morse could not be reached for immediate comment.

The Only Way to Fight Disinformation Is to Fight Political Censorship

If outfits like the Aspen Institute’s “Commission on Information Disorder,” along with Big Tech’s faceless “fact-checkers,” ever get a total monopoly on dictating reality, the result will be a 24/7 mix of falsehoods with the occasional limited hangout to cover up their lies.

The icing on this fake cake is the use of conferences about disinformation, such as the recent stunt at the University of Chicago that served as cover for justifying political censorship. There former President Obama presented the perfect picture of psychological projection: a panel of propagandists accusing others of wrongthink.

The Atlantic’s Anne Applebaum, for example, sought to censor the reality of the Hunter Biden laptop scandal by announcing she didn’t find it “interesting.” See how that works? Truth depends upon how our elites personally feel about what should be true.

But it gets much worse, because political censorship creates deep dysfunction in society. In fact, the surest way to kill a democracy is to practice political censorship under the guise of protecting society from disinformation.

Censorship causes disinformation. It’s the grandaddy of disinformation, not a solution to it. The sooner everyone recognizes this obvious fact, the better off we’ll be. (Read more from “The Only Way to Fight Disinformation Is to Fight Political Censorship” HERE)

Most Trusted Name in Snooze: CNN+ Draws Fewer Than 10,000 Daily Viewers

The embattled CNN cable network looks to have another situation on its hands: the underwhelming launch of its new streaming service, CNN+.

The service’s total number of daily viewers has yet to surpass 10,000, according to reports — fueling speculation that the network’s new parent company, Discovery WarnerMedia, could be pushed into slashing costs even as CNN+ tries to get off the ground.

The latest black eye for the left-leaning network comes after a tumultuous year when its chief, Jeff Zucker, stepped down after admitting to a consensual relationship with Allison Gollust, his former lieutenant at the company. It also comes after star anchor Chris Cuomo was fired for his involvement advising his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, as he faced a sexual harassment scandal.

The fledgling streaming network has pushed for big names to draw people to the service, including hiring former Fox News anchor Chris Wallace.

CNN+ first started streaming content on March 29, though there were some technical hiccups. The $5.99-per-month subscription service wasn’t available on Roku until Monday, and it remains offline for those with Android TV. Does CNN’s Incoming Boss Condone Assaulting Fox News’ Journalists?

CNN’s incoming president Chris Licht appears to be okay with the suggestion of slapping a Fox News journalist over questions posed to President Joe Biden about Russia’s war on Ukraine.

Licht, the current producer of “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” is set to take over at CNN next month but has failed to nix a portion of Colbert’s scripts that include attacks on Fox News reporters and conservative media figures.

On Tuesday, Colbert called Fox News White House correspondent Peter Doocy a “ridiculous man” and suggested the reporter be slapped for questions he asked Biden.

“Remember how on last night’s show I said that slapping is never, ever the answer? I’d like to file a one-time exception on behalf of the president of the United States,” Colbert said, referring to his comments the night before about actor Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock at Sunday’s Academy Awards.

Colbert’s remark about slapping Doocy came after a video clip was played of the Fox News reporter asking Biden to elaborate on what he meant when he previously said that chemical weapons used by Russia would prompt a U.S. response “in kind.” (Read more from “Does CNN’s Incoming Boss Condone Assaulting Fox News’ Journalists?” HERE)

Jane Doe Tells All: CNN Fired Chris Cuomo After He Allegedly Attacked a Female Employee Who Declined His Sexual Advances

The New York Times reported Wednesday that former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was fired after outlet executives learned of an alleged sexual assault that took place years earlier while Cuomo was working with ABC News.

The alleged incident occurred back in 2011 when a young temp employee, referred to as Jane Doe, hoping for a full time position at ABC snagged a lunch meeting with Cuomo after he reportedly offered her career advice. The NYT reported there are emails, a letter and the woman’s testimony to corroborate the meeting.

When Doe arrived at the meeting, there was no food, the NYT reported. Instead, Doe alleges Cuomo asked for sex and after she rejected his request he allegedly assaulted her before she fled the room. In a bid to smooth things over, Doe reportedly sent Cuomo several friendly emails.

Five friends and former colleagues told the NYT that Doe confided to them about Cuomo’s alleged sexual advances. The alleged victim said she only recently clarified that Cuomo also assaulted her because it was too painful to recount, according to the NYT.

Then in the midst of the #MeToo movement, Cuomo allegedly reached out to Doe out of nowhere, according to the NYT. (Read more from “Jane Doe Tells All: CNN Fired Chris Cuomo After He Allegedly Attacked a Female Employee Who Declined His Sexual Advances” HERE)

Now Even CNN Agrees That a Majority of Americans Do Not Believe Elections Reflect the Will of the People

An increasing majority of Americans lack confidence that elections in America today reflected the will of the people, and about half think it likely that a future election in the United States will be overturned for partisan reasons, according to a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS.

There’s been a shift in the partisan dynamic driving concerns about the possibility of an overturned future election. While the 50% overall who considered such a prospect at least somewhat likely was similar to the 51% who felt that way in September, Democrats were now more apt to see an overturned election in the future than Republicans. In the new poll, 56% of Democrats saw it as likely vs. 48% of Republicans. In September, 57% of Republicans thought that was likely while just 49% of Democrats agreed.

Also in the new poll, 56% of respondents said they have little or no confidence that American elections reflect the will of the people, up from 52% who felt that way in September and 40% in January 2021. Almost three-quarters of Republicans were now skeptical that elections are representative (74%), as were 59% of independents, and only a third of Democrats (32%). The results reflected a significant decline in confidence over the past year among both independents (45% lacked confidence in January 2021) and Democrats (9% felt that way a year ago). CNN Medical Analyst Blasted on Twitter After Reversal on COVID Mandates

Dr. Leana Wen, a CNN medical analyst and the former head of Planned Parenthood, is facing loads of backlash on social media for her recent calls to roll back Covid-19 restrictions. And she’s getting it from both sides.

As Julio reported yesterday, Wen told CNN anchor John Berman that she supports off-ramps to mask mandates, particularly in schools, because “the science has changed.”

“We know that vaccines protect very well against Omicron, which is the dominant variant,” Wen said Monday. “Everyone 5 and older have widespread access to vaccines and we also know about one-way masking. The idea that even if other people around you are not wearing masks, if you wear a high-quality mask, that also protects you, the wearer, too … I don’t think anyone really is saying, no one should ever wear masks, but rather that the responsibility should shift from a government mandate imposed from the state or local district of the school, rather it should shift to an individual responsibility by the family who can still decide that their child can wear a mask if needed.”
