Defiant Devin Nunes Fires Back at Schiff Phone Record Subpoena (VIDEO)

Republican California Rep. Devin Nunes fired back at Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff during Wednesday night’s edition of “Tucker Carlson Tonight,” calling his phone record subpoena a violation of his “civil rights.”

Schiff, the House Intelligence Committee chairman, released his committee’s impeachment inquiry report Tuesday, which revealed the acquisition of several personal phone records of conversations involving Nunes, investigative reporter John Solomon, and Trump attorney Rudy Giuliani.

“He has subpoena power,” Nunes told Fox News host Tucker Carlson when asked how it happened. “So when the Democrats gained control, they have subpoena power. We knew he had issued – he notified us that he had subpoenaed some phone numbers. We didn’t know who those numbers were. And, of course, because it’s … classified, we can’t talk about it.” . . .

“And because I had talked to Rudy Giuliani and somehow that’s now a crime, and then I make it into his report,” said Nunes. “We spent the last three years, if any Republican ever talked to any Russian at any time, even if you are Russian-American, that was a no-no. Then we were criticized. We switched to Ukraine. If you talk to any Ukrainian that’s now a crime. Now I can’t even talk to Rudy Giuliani, who I have known for 10 years. That’s supposedly a crime. And I’m in his report for supposedly doing something wrong. So this is — this is wrong. And what is happening, whatever is happening in this town is wrong and look, I’m going to look at whatever legal remedies I have. Because I actually have some civil rights here too.”

GOP Rep. Hits CNN with Massive Lawsuit over ‘Demonstrably False’ Ukraine Report

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) slapped CNN with a massive lawsuit seeking nearly half a billion dollars on Tuesday over a report last month that he says was “demonstrably false” which claimed that an indicted associate of Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani was willing to testify that Nunes met with a Ukrainian prosecutor last year in Vienna to dig up dirt on former Vice President and current Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden.

Fox News reported that the 47-page lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia, seeks “at least $435,350,000 in compensatory and punitive damages.”

“CNN is the mother of fake news. It is the least trusted name. CNN is eroding the fabric of America, proselytizing, sowing distrust and disharmony. It must be held accountable,” the lawsuit, obtained by Fox News, states. “The ulterior purpose of the CNN Article is to advance the impeachment inquiry, to seed doubt in the minds of Americans, and to influence the outcome of the 2020 election.”

The lawsuit came in response to a CNN report last month that stated: “The attorney, Joseph A. Bondy, represents Lev Parnas, the recently indicted Soviet-born American who worked with Giuliani to push claims of Democratic corruption in Ukraine. Bondy said that Parnas was told directly by the former Ukrainian official that he met last year in Vienna with Rep. Devin Nunes.”

“Mr. Parnas learned from former Ukrainian Prosecutor General Victor Shokin that Nunes had met with Shokin in Vienna last December,” Bondy told CNN. “Nunes had told Shokin of the urgent need to launch investigations into Burisma, Joe and Hunter Biden, and any purported Ukrainian interference in the 2016 election.” (Read more from “GOP Rep. Top Republican Demands Top Democrat Testify in Impeachment Inquiry

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, demanded in a letter late on Friday night that Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA) testify in a closed-door deposition about any interactions that either he or his staff may have had with the whistleblower.

“On November 6th, you announced the beginning of public hearings associated with the Democratic Party’s partisan impeachment inquiry into President Donald J. Trump,” Nunes wrote to Schiff. “Based on the precedent and lack of jurisdiction, the House Intelligence Committee should not take the lead in conducting such hearings; however, by now the American people know your desire to see the duly-elected president removed from office outweighs your sense of responsibility to running a functioning intelligence oversight committee.”

“Prior to the start of your public show trial next week, at least one additional closed-door deposition must take place,” Nunes stated. “Specifically, I request that you sit for a closed-door deposition before the House Intelligence, Foreign Affairs, and Oversight Committees.”

“As the American public is now aware, in August 2019, you and/or your staff met with or talked to the whistleblower who raised an issue with President Trump’s phone call with Ukrainian president Zelensky,” Nunes continued. “Although you publicly claim nothing inappropriate was discussed, the three committees deserve to hear directly from you the substance and circumstances surrounding any discussions conducted with the whistleblower, and any commitment to let the committee’s interview the whistleblower directly, you are the only individual who can provide clarity as to these conversations.”

“As you know, the House Intelligence Committee has precedent for such an arrangement. During the committees investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election, sitting members of Congress agreed to participate in closed-door depositions,” Nunes continued. “Given your championing of such an agreement two years ago, you should have no problem with you appearing before the three committees to discuss your interactions with the whistleblower.” (Read more from “Top Republican Demands Top Democrat Testify in Impeachment Inquiry” HERE)

Nunes and Fox News Commentator Suggest That the Entire Trump-Russian Collusion Lie May Have Been Initiated by FBI or the CIA

Representative Devin Nunes, the ranking member of the House Intelligence Committee, was interviewed yesterday about the mysterious “Professor Joseph Mifsud”, a Maltese national who was the supposed catalyst to the Trump-Russian collusion probe. Since the collusion story broke, no one has seen Misfud publicly.

Apparently suspecting FBI or CIA involvement from the beginning, Nunes demanded that by May 10, the agencies disclose exactly who employed Mifsud and further requested all recordings of volunteer Trump advisor George Papadopoulos’ conversations with him:

“If the FBI does in fact have transcripts of Papadopoulos talking to anyone … I think Congress, and the American people, have a right to know this because in fact we paid for it, and we had to deal with this for two and a half years. We had to suffer through this,” he told Fox correspondent Maria Bartiromo on “Sunday Morning Futures.”

Papadopoulos has said that Misfud is who originally told him that the Russians had emails from Hillary that could damage her presidential campaign.

Nunes also hammered Mueller for “cherry-picking” information about Misfud and ignoring his obvious connections to U.S. intelligence agencies: “They pick a news story, and then they cherry-pick from it. So, they use it partly to describe where Mifsud worked. But then they fail to say in that same story that they have given support to by using it in the Mueller dossier. . . They cherry pick it and they don’t use that Mifsud was described as a Western intelligence asset. . . How is it that we spent $30-plus million on [the Mueller report] as taxpayers. Yeah. And they can’t even tell us who Joseph Mifsud is… we’re getting to the bottom of this.”

Nunes Has Concerns About Intelligence Vulnerability – Here’s Why

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA), the Ranking Member of the House Intelligence Committee, on Friday sent a letter to Secretary of State Michael Pompeo, NSA Director General Paul Nakasone, CIA Director Gina Haspel and FBI Director Christopher Way expressing concerns about Joseph Mifsud, the Maltese professor embedded in the Russia probe.

According to Nunes, Mifsud contacted Trump campaign staffer George Papadopoulos about Russian “dirt” on former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

In his letter, Nunes identifies Mifsud’s connections to Western governments, politicians and other influencers that were laid out in Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report.

“This report includes numerous details on Mifsud, who told George Papdopoulos that the Russian government had direct on Hillary Clinton compromising thousands of emails,” the letter said. “Papadopoulos later related this information to others, which served as the official pretext for the FBI to open a counter-intelligence investigation into whether Trump associates conspired with Russians to interfere in the 2016 presidential election. After investigating the matter for approximately two years, the Special Counsel ‘did not establish’ that such a conspiracy existed.”

According to Nunes, Mueller’s report says Mifsud has “deep ties to Russia, detailing his trips to Moscow and extensive contacts with Russian officials including ‘a one-time employee of the IRA,’ the Russian organization that conducted social media attacks on the 2016 U.S. elections.'” Nunes said the description of Mifsud is similar to the portrayal House Intelligence Committee Democrats used when they say Russians used him to feed information to Papadopoulos. Bombshell: House Intelligence Is Going After ‘Intelligence Leakers’ and Conspiracy Pushers

By Townhall. House Intelligence Committee Ranking Member Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Sunday told Fox News’ Maria Bartiromo that the Committee plans to submit eight criminal referrals to Attorney General William Barr.

“We’re prepared this week to notify the attorney general that we’re prepared to send those referrals over and brief him if he wishes to be briefed,” Nunes said. . .

“So you’ve got eight referrals you’re going to send over the AG this week. Go through those referrals. These are criminal referrals. Two of them I know are about conspiracy,” Bartiromo said. “What can you tell us? Tell us as much as you can, in terms of breaking this news this morning, that you are prepared to send over eight criminal referrals ext week. What are they, Congressman?” . . .

“Five of them are what I would call straight up referrals so just referrals that are, that name someone and name the specific crimes. Those crimes are lying to Congress, misleading Congress, leaking classified information,” Nunes said.

“There are three that I think are more complicated. So you mentioned conspiracy. So the question on conspiracy is what, there’s the conspiracy statute, and then what do they need to look at under that statute. So on the first one, is FISA abuse and other matters we believe there is a conspiracy to lie to the FISA Court, mislead the FISA court by numerous individuals that all need to be investigated and looked at,” Nunes said. “The second conspiracy one is involving manipulation of intelligence. That also could [involve] many Americans and we are, so that’s kind of the second one. As you know, we’ve had a lot of concerns with the way intelligence was used.” (Read more from “Bombshell: House Intelligence Is Going After ‘Intelligence Leakers’ and Conspiracy Pushers” HERE)

Nunes to Send Eight Criminal Referrals to DOJ Concerning Leaks, Conspiracy Amid Russia Probe

By Fox News. House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes exclusively told Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” that he is preparing to send eight criminal referrals to the Department of Justice this week concerning alleged misconduct from “Watergate wannabes” during the Trump-Russia investigation, including the leaks of “highly classified material” and conspiracies to lie to Congress and the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court.

The dramatic step comes as Republicans have pushed for the release of key documents to uncover the origins of the now-discredited narrative that the Trump campaign colluded improperly with the Russian government. President Trump recently told Fox News he would release the entirety of the FISA applications used to surveil one of his top aides, and other related documents. . .

It was not immediately clear whom Nunes would specifically refer. Both Democrats and Republicans have said former Trump fixer Michael Cohen is likely to face new charges of lying to Congress in the wake of his recent explosive testimony, which seemed to contradict his previous statements on a variety of matters, including whether he had sought a job in the Trump White House. Lawmaker Sues News Agency in Latest Bombshell Claim

House Intelligence Committee ranking member Devin Nunes filed a $150 million lawsuit in Virginia state court against The McClatchy Company and others on Monday, alleging that one of the news agency’s reporters conspired with a political operative to derail Nunes’ oversight work into the Hillary Clinton campaign and Russian election interference.

The filing, obtained by Fox News, came a day after Nunes, R-Calif., revealed he would send eight criminal referrals to the Justice Department this week concerning purported surveillance abuses by federal authorities during the Russia probe, false statements to Congress and other matters.

In March, Nunes filed a similar $250 million lawsuit alleging defamation against Twitter and one of its users, Republican consultant Liz Mair. In Monday’s complaint, Nunes again named Mair as a co-defendant, charging this time that she conspired with McClatchy reporter MacKenzie Mays to spread a variety of untruthful and misleading smears — including that Nunes “was involved with cocaine and underage prostitutes” — online and in print.

Reached for comment late Monday, Mair directed Fox News to a USA Today op-ed she penned earlier this week concerning Nunes’ previous lawsuit entitled, “Free speech means I don’t have to be nice to Devin Nunes on Twitter. So why’s he suing me?”

A spokesperson for McClatchy told Fox News late Monday: “We have no comment and stand behind the strong reporting of The Fresno Bee,” the McClatchy-owned publication cited throughout Nunes’ lawsuit. (Read more from “Lawmaker Sues News Agency in Latest Bombshell Claim” HERE)

Devin Nunes Is Suing Twitter and a Conservative Strategist for Millions

Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) on Monday filed a lawsuit against Twitter, Republican strategist Liz Mair and multiple anonymous accounts for “shadow-banning conservatives” in an attempt to influence the outcome of his 2018 Congressional reelection campaign. Nunes is seeking $250 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages in the lawsuit. He also wants Twitter to hand over the identities of numerous anonymous accounts, including @DevinNunesMom and @DevinCow, who he says harassed and defamed him.

“Twitter created and developed the content at issue in this case by transforming false accusations of criminal conduct, imputed wrongdoing, dishonesty and lack of integrity into a publicly available commodity used by unscrupulous political operatives and their donor/clients as a weapon,” the suit stated. “Twitter is ‘responsible’ for the development of offensive content on its platform because it in some way specifically encourages development of what is offensive about the content.”

The lawsuit also cites former Republican National Committee online communication director Liz Mair’s tweets and videos about the Congressman, saying she attempted to push the idea that

The lawsuit seeks to hold Twitter equally accountable for the content because the social media platform “has a duty to exercise reasonable care to avoid hosting outwardly defamatory content,” Fox News reported. As Twitter takes a more active role in censoring conservative content, they should be held responsible for the content they do allow on their platform, the lawsuit suggests. Resistance Torches Devin Nunes’ Family After He Dared to Expose Intel Agencies’ Collusion With Democrats

. . .Another aspect of Tulare lends it additional significance. It is the hometown to California Rep. Devin Nunes, the current chairman of the House Intelligence Committee and the author of the “Nunes memo,” a four-page document released in February detailing alleged surveillance abuses committed by the U.S. government.

Before the release of the memo, Nunes had been vocal in his skepticism towards federal agencies and their handling of potential election interference during the 2016 election. His criticisms earned him a litany of nicknames from those opposed to his attacks on federal agencies, such as “Trump’s political stooge” who is simply “doing dirty work” to shield Trump, or simply a “presidential fig-leaf holder.” . . .

In addition to agenda-driven reporting, the localized resistance, comprised of both media figures and political opponents, has gone to strange lengths to badger Nunes’ extended family.

Last month, Gerald Nunes, Devin’s uncle, was accused of “harass[ing]” the video crew of Devin’s Democratic opponent, Andrew Janz, while Janz’s team was shooting a campaign video. The Janz team originally started shooting the video on land Gerald owned, although he had not given the crew permission to do so.

Gerald confronted the crew and asked them to leave his property, and a member of the irrigation district later called the police. The crew then moved to land nearby that Gerald rents. The result of this staged filming fiasco targeting Nunes’ uncle? Janz posted a tweet accusing Devin Nunes of “send[ing] one of his relatives to stop” Janz’s team from filming and referring to Nunes and his relatives as “triggered snowflakes.” (Read more from “Resistance Torches Devin Nunes’ Family After He Dared to Expose Intel Agencies’ Collusion With Democrats” HERE)

Media Conspiracy Theories About Devin Nunes Are Getting out of Control

. . .The Washington Post headline was “Devin Nunes, in secretly recorded tape, tells donors GOP majority is necessary to protect Trump: ‘We’re the only ones.’” The article by Isaac Stanley-Becker is downright hilarious. It makes Maddow seem calm.

It notes that Nunes publicly speaks in the same way he was “caught” speaking at the fundraiser, but adds that there is a nefarious new step of coming up with the crazy idea that Democrats might want to impeach the president even though the aggressive special counsel has not provided any reason for impeachment:

… Nunes took the new step of tying the investigation to the midterm elections this fall. In comments captured in an audio recording aired Wednesday by ‘The Rachel Maddow Show,’ Nunes laid out in stark terms the rationale for preserving the GOP majority in Congress.

‘If Sessions won’t unrecuse and Mueller won’t clear the president, we’re the only ones, which is really the danger,’ Nunes said at an event for Republican Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers of Washington, referring to Jeff Sessions, the attorney general, and Robert S. Mueller III, the special counsel. Sessions said last year that he would keep his distance from inquiries related to the 2016 election, owing to his role in Trump’s campaign — a move that has frustrated the president, leading him to blame his own attorney general for the ‘Russian Witch Hunt Hoax.’

. . .

And I think at this point we can all agree that The Washington Post is not going to hold the FBI or DOJ accountable for any misdeeds in recent years. This is the paper, after all, that has yet to have one of its own reporters even mention the latest news with Bruce Ohr, much less write the dozens of hard-hitting investigative pieces people have every right to expect at this stage.
