Liberal Lawyers Propose Longshot Nuclear Option to Stop Trump From Taking Office

Two liberal attorneys claimed Thursday that Congress can still prevent President-elect Donald Trump from taking office — and elect Vice President Kamala Harris in his place — if they act fast.

Congress can reject electoral votes on when they gather to certify them on Jan. 6 because Trump is disqualified from holding office under 14th Amendment, which restricts anyone who took an oath to support the Constitution and then “engaged in insurrection” from holding office, attorneys Evan Davis and David Schulte wrote in a column for The Hill.

“The unlikelihood of congressional Republicans doing anything that might elect Harris as president is obvious,” the attorneys wrote. “But Democrats need to take a stand against Electoral College votes for a person disqualified by the Constitution from holding office unless and until this disability is removed. No less is required by their oath to support and defend the Constitution.”

Lawmakers have grounds to dispute the vote if electors were “not lawfully certified” or if the vote was “not regularly given,” they claim.

“A vote for a candidate disqualified by the Constitution is plainly in accordance with the normal use of words ‘not regularly given,’” the attorneys argued, writing that disqualification for insurrection is “no different from disqualification based on other constitutional requirements such as age, citizenship from birth and 14 years’ residency in the United States.”

Putin Claims He Has Not Spoken to Trump in Years, Contradicting Woodward Report

Russian President Vladimir Putin claims to have not spoken to President-elect Donald Trump in four years, which would appear to contradict a book by reporter Bob Woodward that claimed the two world leaders spoke several times after Trump left office.

Putin issued his claim during a lengthy news conference on Thursday in which he spoke about Russia’s mission in Syria and its war in Ukraine.

“You asked what we can offer, or what I can offer to the newly elected President Trump when we meet,” Putin said in response to a question from NBC’s Keir Simmons. “First of all, I don’t know when we will meet. Because he hasn’t said anything about it. I haven’t spoken to him at all in over four years. Of course, I am ready for this at any time, and I will be ready for a meeting if he wants it.”

If Putin’s admission of not speaking to Trump in four years turns out true, it would heavily contradict explosive claims by reporter Bob Woodward, who charged that the president-elect secretly sent coronavirus tests to Putin and that he regularly kept in contact with the Russian president after leaving office. As the AFP reported at the time:

Then-president Donald Trump secretly sent Covid test kits to Vladimir Putin despite a US shortage during the pandemic, and spoke multiple times with the Russian leader after leaving office, Bob Woodward says in an explosive new book.

The famed reporter’s opus also chronicles some of President Joe Biden’s own acknowledged missteps and his struggle to prevent escalation of conflict in the Middle East, including exasperation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu over futile efforts to get Israel and Hamas to reach a ceasefire.

Donald Trump Blasts Joe Biden for Commuting Sentences of Death Row Inmates

President-elect Donald Trump on Tuesday lashed out at President Joe Biden over his decision to commute the death sentences of almost every federal prisoner on death row.

Biden’s decision has met with criticism from individuals on both sides of the aisle. In a post on Truth Social, Trump said, “When you hear the acts of each [death row inmate], you won’t believe that he did this.”

In a subsequent post, the president-elect declared that when he takes office, he “will direct the Justice Department to vigorously pursue the death penalty to protect American families and children from violent rapists, murderers, and monsters.”

How Trump Can Restore Integrity and Lethality to America’s Declining Military

It’s safe to say that America has suffered greatly under the Biden-Harris administration. From a wide-open southern border to economic hardship, the laundry list of pains inflicted upon the public have been nothing short of horrific.

While no institution has been spared from these radical policies, there’s one in particular whose suffering Americans who care about the future security of the United States should take heed of: the military.

For the past four years, America’s armed forces have been undergoing a “reimagining.” Not content with simply allowing the military’s infrastructure to decline, the leftist ghouls running the White House have prioritized shoehorning neo-Marxist ideology into the service over the capabilities of America’s warfighters, prompting troops to abandon ship and dissuading new recruits from jumping on board.

Such destructive policies have left the United States’ defense apparatus in a vulnerable state. With foreign conflicts breaking out across the world and foreign adversaries becoming increasingly aggressive, it’s imperative the incoming Trump administration hit the ground running on restoring the military to the lethal and efficient fighting force it once was. . .

As any good general knows, a military is only as capable as the individuals who comprise it. Unfortunately for the Pentagon, convincing qualified men to join today’s service has become a nightmare. New Data Shows Dems Are in Serious Trouble

The Democratic Party is a mess. The spending bill circus wasn’t the prettiest of spectacles, but don’t let that sideshow distract you from the wider mayhem engulfing the Left. They’re in for more pain if they don’t course correct, and given how some top officials have reacted to their 2024 loss—they’re not keen on changing their ways for the future. No, this doesn’t mean the GOP is the beneficiary of the permanent political majority, a term I loathe. Still, it does mean Republicans could be in for two, maybe three, good election cycles since normal voters are tired of liberal America’s condescension and elitism.

Progressive research groups cannot sweep this under the rug: most voters view Democrats as being the punchable faces of American politics. That’s because they are. Our friends at Twitchy had this first, but the advantages the Left once had in elections have evaporated completely. As pollster Tony Fabrizio told us, We also learned that the most effective ad against Kamala Harris was this cycle. In short, any ad where she was talking was useful in chipping away at the VP’s presidential hopes:

More on the data issues Democrats face—they have a tough rough ahead (via Politico):

Democrats conducting post-mortems on their sweeping losses in 2024 are finding more reason for alarm. And the problem isn’t just Kamala Harris or Joe Biden.

In a trio of focus groups, even voters who previously backed Democrats cast the party as weak and overly focused on diversity and elites, according to research by the progressive group Navigator Research.

When asked to compare the Democratic Party to an animal, one participant compared the party to an ostrich because “they’ve got their heads in the sand and are absolutely committed to their own ideas, even when they’re failing.” Another likened them to koalas, who “are complacent and lazy about getting policy wins that we really need.” Democrats, another said, are “not a friend of the working class anymore.”

Trump Shuts Down Notion of Musk Usurping Him: ‘He’s Not Taking the Presidency’

President-elect Donald Trump dismissed claims that he is ceding the presidency to Elon Musk during a wide-ranging speech celebrating his election victory and sharing his plans for his second term.

Trump spoke at Turning Point USA’s AmFest in Phoenix, Arizona, in his first rally-style speech since the election. During an address that lasted over an hour, Trump discussed many topics, including his work with Musk on the Department of Government Efficiency. At one point, the president-elect referred to claims from the left that he had ceded the presidency to Musk in large part due to the billionaire Tesla CEO leading the opposition to a proposed continuing resolution.

“He’s not taking the presidency,” Trump told the crowd on Sunday. “I like having smart people. You know, they’re on a new kick. Russia, Russia, Russia, Ukraine, Ukraine, Ukraine, all the different hoaxes. And the new one is ‘President Trump has ceded the presidency to Elon Musk.’ No, no, that’s not happening, but Elon has done an amazing job. Isn’t it nice to have smart people that we could rely on?”

Trump then praised Musk’s work with Starlink and SpaceX before joking that he does not have to worry about the South African-born billionaire becoming president. (Read more from “Trump Shuts Down Notion of Musk Usurping Him: ‘He’s Not Taking the Presidency’” HERE)

Trump Predicts His Administration Will Be ‘Fully Operational’ Within Two Hours

President-elect Donald Trump said his second administration will be “fully operational” in roughly two hours.

The prediction was made on Sunday during Trump’s remarks at Turning Point USA’s America Fest in Phoenix, Arizona, while he was talking about border security. . .

Trump is expected to take the oath of office during his inauguration ceremony at the U.S. Capitol at around noon ET on January 20, 2025.

“For those of us standing before you today, I can proudly proclaim that the golden age of America is upon us,” Trump declared, eliciting cheers from the audience.

Panama President Rejects Trump’s Threat of Taking Back Control of Panama Canal: ‘Not Negotiable’

Panama’s president shot down President-elect Donald Trump’s threat on Sunday that the US would call on the Central American country to cede control of the Panama Canal if it continued to charge “exorbitant” fees to use the critical shipping channel.

Panama President José Raúl Mulino came out swinging against Trump’s suggestion that the US could demand it regain control of the century-old waterway when he assumes office next month.

“I want to express precisely that every square meter of the Panama Canal and its adjacent area belong to Panama, and will continue to,” Mulino said in a statement posted on social media.

“The sovereignty and independence of our country are not negotiable. Every Panamanian, here or anywhere in the world, carries it in their heart, and it is part of our history of struggle and irreversible conquest.”

Trump first made noise about the key route on Saturday before he addressed the topic again during a speech Sunday at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest. (Read more from “Panama President Rejects Trump’s Threat of Taking Back Control of Panama Canal: ‘Not Negotiable’” HERE)

Report: Biden’s Nap Delayed Meeting With Gold Star Families Following Chaotic Afghanistan Withdrawal

With President Joe Biden’s presidency coming to an end in approximately one month, reports keep coming out to confirm what we knew all along, that he was a doddering old man who wasn’t properly dealing with his tasks of the presidency. Afghanistan has come up plenty, as Sarah covered when mentioning that report from The Wall Street Journal, in how the president was too “mentally fatigued” to take a call from Rep. Adam Smith (D-WA) about his concerns with the withdrawal, who was then the chairman of the House Armed Services Committee. Now, a new report from the Daily Mail details how Biden’s nap delayed his meeting with Gold Star families.

Senile Biden’s insult to families of Marines murdered in disastrous Afghan withdrawal,” read the damning headline. According to the piece, the president kept the Gold Star families waiting for three hours while they napped on the tarmac. Biden was meeting with family members of those 13 U.S. servicemembers who were killed when a suicide bomber attacked Abbey Gate in Kabul on August 26, 2021. . .

The Daily Mail report also mentions Biden checking his watch and includes comments from Gold Star family members as well:

While Biden was absent from the withdrawal planning, he did show up to greet the caskets of the US Servicemen and woman who were killed, infamously checking his watch on the tarmac before their coffins were brought out.

It was his second insult to their families that day, according to the sister of Rylee McCollum, one of the men who died.

‘(Biden) made us wait an extra three hours to receive the bodies of our dead family members because he couldn’t pull it together,’ Roice McCollum told DailyMail.com.

Roice said she and others were waiting for Biden to appear when a military officer told her he was napping on his plane.

Christy Shamblin, the mother-in-law of Marine Sgt. Nicole Gee, and Darin Hoover, the father of Staff Sgt. Taylor Hoover, who were also killed in the Kabul blast, told DailyMail.com that their families were also left waiting on the tarmac.

‘We sat in that office for what seemed like an eternity waiting on the doddering old fool,’ Hoover recalled.

Like Your Taxes Low? Trump and Republicans Want to Keep It That Way.

Sunday is the seven-year anniversary of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, a landmark piece of legislation that contributed to historic economic prosperity under the first Trump administration.

In December 2017, a Republican Congress passed and President Donald Trump signed this package of sweeping reforms into the U.S. tax code, both for individual filers and corporations. Next year, Congress and Trump are poised to renew the expiring provisions of the law as well as add additional reforms.

The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act cut income tax rates for workers at every level and nearly doubled the standard deduction, shielding more income from taxation. It expanded the child tax credit and preserved other popular tax benefits like the deductions for mortgage interest and charitable deductions, among others.

Tyler Cowen, an economics professor at George Mason University, reported in July—some 6 1/2 years after the legislation took effect—that as a result of the law, “total tangible corporate investment went up by about 11%” and “there has been a long-run increase in GDP [gross domestic product] of 0.9%—a substantial sum in an economy of more than $27 trillion.”

Before the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, American corporations faced one of the world’s highest statutory corporate income tax rates at 35%. The tax law lowered this rate to 21%, putting the U.S. rate near the global average. Many small businesses known as “pass-through entities” (because income “passes through” to the owner and is taxed as the owner’s personal income) benefited from tax reform because the law provides them with a 20% deduction on business profits.
