Independence Day Sounds So Much Better Than ‘Fourth Of July’

As of Friday this week the United States is 249 years young. Do it the honor of marking our country’s birthday as “Independence Day,” rather than the far more common and clunky “Fourth of July.”

I’m not sure when I started caring to explicitly and exclusively refer to the holiday by it’s official name, but it’s something I’ve grown militant about. Not in a sanctimonious way, like a person who wants to flex his superior patriotism or knowledge on proper titles. But there are two reasons for it.

First, I’m a writer (a real one, not the fake Charles Blow kind). I pay attention to the way phrases sound and flow, always self-editing to make expressions concise and breezy. That’s both in print and speech. “Independence Day” includes one long word, but it sounds nice and is easy to say. “Fourth of July” by contrast is three short ones that when said aloud together are the audible equivalent of watching John Fetterman lurching forward in strap-on heels. It’s a plodding phrase with each syllable landing on the eardrum with a dull thud. I hate it. Further, Independence Day connotes a date of significance, with its own distinguished name. “Fourth of July” is simply the number of a day belonging to a summer month. It’s a phrase that also exhibits a lot of lip action, first biting the lower one to say “fourth” and then pursing them both for “July.” Ugly! The month itself isn’t even a pleasant one to say and I’m shocked it hasn’t yet been deemed as anti-Semitic by Jonah Goldberg. Millions of Americans Warned of Terror Threat Ahead of July 4th Celebrations

Federal officials are warning of lone wolves who pose the biggest terror threat to Fourth of July celebrations amid tensions between the United States and the Middle East.

Tensions escalated on June 22, when the U.S. Military bombed three key nuclear sites in Iran, according to Trump administration officials.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said the agency is “working closely with the FBI and other federal, state, and local law enforcement partners to ensure a safe and secure Independence Day across the nation.”

“We are enhancing security measures and coordinating intelligence-sharing to proactively address potential risks, including those from lone wolf actors. At this time, DHS is not aware of any specific, credible, threats to Fourth of July celebrations,” DHS said.

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul said she has been “briefed consistently over the previous few weeks on the current threat landscape given heightened tensions around the world.”

“Our federal partners reiterated yesterday that lone wolf actors remain the greatest potential threat including during the upcoming July 4th holiday. Keeping New Yorkers safe is my top priority — especially as families gather to celebrate this holiday weekend,” Hochul said. The friends jumped in after Hamric and felt themselves getting shocked upon entering the water. Despite their own injuries, they were able to pull Hamric out, according to WDBJ.

One of the friends began CPR on Hamric while another called for help.

Rescue crews arrived at around 4 a.m. and rushed Hamric to a hospital, where he later died. His two friends suffered minor injuries. (Read more from “Teen Dies After Jumping Into Electrified Lake While Celebrating July 4” HERE)

Iconic Actor Breaks Silence on Fourth of July Parade Brawl After He’s Hit With Water Balloons: ‘That’s When I Panicked’

Danny Trejo claimed he was targeted when he was struck with a water balloon during a Fourth of July parade in Los Angeles, which led to a chaotic brawl involving the iconic actor.

The “Machete” star was riding in the passenger seat in a baby blue convertible alongside his buddy Mario Castillo, driving through the Sunland-Tujunga neighborhood when a water balloon was thrown at them, the actor told TMZ.

Trejo said he panicked when he seemingly heard somebody yell that the balloon contained “acid.”

“I’m so sad, by the way I behaved, so sad that grown men have to throw water balloons to enjoy a day,” Trejo told the outlet. “I don’t think I would’ve gotten out of the car if someone hadn’t yelled ‘it’s acid.’ That’s when I panicked,” he added.

Trejo hopped out of the car to confront a group of people on the sidewalk and began fighting with one man who wore a black sleeveless shirt. (Read more from “Iconic Actor Breaks Silence on Fourth of July Parade Brawl After He’s Hit With Water Balloons: ‘That’s When I Panicked’” HERE)

July 4 Has Always Been About Resisting Tyranny, and This Year is No Exception

Despite America being currently shaken to its foundation, we are a blessed nation, with holidays such as Independence Day — commonly known as the Fourth of July — to reminisce on that fact. If more Americans understood that they are the true heirs and protectors of the birth of freedom in the world, July 4 celebrations might well take on a new dimension, potentially igniting Americans from all walks of life to sacrifice their time and resources and join the ranks of the growing patriot movement dedicated to saving America’s freedom at this critical time.

The fact is that every other nation before the United States came into being from an evolution of tribes or clans, royalty and blood lineage, inevitabilities of language, culture, tradition, and geography, or from the results of war where the victors carve up the vanquished. America is the only nation in human history that was completely born of noble and deeply spiritual principles: that all men are created equal, that they have been given by God certain rights that cannot be taken away by any man or earthly authority, and that those unalienable rights combine to create and protect a thing called freedom in life. As a result, Americans have always been free to pursue happiness, worship God, speak publicly about their views, and, of course, choose their leaders.

Consider this: The very freedoms and rights we have taken for granted for hundreds of years in the United States did not even exist in Asia — the most populated part of the world — before World War II. Asian states and societies were all autocratic with people at the top having all the power and privileges and the people at the bottom having neither rights nor much in the way of freedom. But after the victory of the Allied powers, democratic self-government was granted to India and Japan in 1947, spreading from there, however imperfectly.

No matter the odds against freedom today, we can take heart and resolve from our history. In the first few years of the War of Independence, George Washington’s undertrained, underequipped, and underfunded Continental Army was only half the size of the highly trained professional British army and their allied German Hessian mercenary troops. The naval mismatch was even greater. The Continental Navy had about 25 converted merchant ships while the British naval power was more than 10 times greater, with 270 dedicated warships concentrated around East Coast colonial ports. Things looked grim for the American cause.

However, the courage, determination, and godly faith of the founders made the difference. The last sentence of the Declaration of Independence before the space allotted for signatures reads, “…for the support of this Declaration, with a firm Reliance on the Protections of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our sacred Honor.” (Read more from “July 4 Has Always Been About Resisting Tyranny, and This Year is No Exception” HERE)

Fourth of July BBQ Meal Up $11.72 Since Biden White House Bragged Price Dropped $0.16 in 2021

It is growing more costly to enjoy a celebratory meal on Independence Day in President Joe Biden’s (D) economy.

In an email Wednesday, RNC Research pointed to the fact Americans will see the “most expensive Independence Day on Record” this year.

“After the Biden White House attempted to brag about the price of an Independence Day barbecque going down by $0.16 in 2021, the same meal has since increased by $11.72 since then,” the email read, citing the American Farm Bureau Federation.

In July 2021, the White House posted a video in which it claimed that because of Biden’s economic policies, the cost of a Fourth of July barbecue had fallen since 2020, Breitbart News reported at the time.

“The cost of a Fourth of July cookout in 2021 is down $0.16 cents from last year,” the clip said:

Fourth of July: ‘Squad’ Members Scold America for ‘Stolen Land’ and Slavery

Reps. Jamaal Bowman (D-NY) and Cori Bush (D-MO) used the occasion of America’s independence to “demand reparations now” and push messages about “stolen land” and slavery.

In his Fourth of July message on Twitter, Bowman tweeted, “This July 4th, we must remember that we stand on stolen land toiled by enslaved Africans and recommit ourselves to the fight for freedom, equality, & justice so that these ideals are accessible to everyone, not just a privileged few.”

Similarly, Bush posted a message admonishing the Declaration of Independence and the founders, saying, “The Declaration of Independence was written by enslavers and didn’t recognize Black people as human.”

“Today is a great day to demand Reparations Now,” the Black Lives Matter activist added.

As members of the “Squad,” Bowman and Bush are some of the most liberal Democrats in their caucus, frequently pushing items such as reparations and Green New Deal-style climate measures. (Read more from “Fourth of July: ‘Squad’ Members Scold America for ‘Stolen Land’ and Slavery” HERE)

Poll: Ahead of July 4, Americans Largely Think U.S. Is Headed Down ‘Wrong Track’; Majority of Americans Have Lost Confidence in Government

By Breitbart. Ahead of the Fourth of July, only 29 percent of likely U.S. voters believe the United States is “heading in the right direction,” a new Rasmussen Reports survey found.

Conversely, 64 percent of voters think the nation is “headed down the wrong track.” Rasmussen Reports conducted the survey with 1,743 likely U.S. voters between June 25-29 with a ± two percent margin of sampling error at the 95 percent confidence level.

“A year ago at this time, 18 percent said the United States was heading in the right direction, while 77 percent said it was on the wrong track,” according to the survey report.

The findings are similar to a new Convention of States Action/Trafalgar Group survey, which found that seven in ten Americans believe the U.S. is in a state of “cultural and economic decline.” (Read more from “Poll: Ahead of July 4, Americans Largely Think U.S. Is Headed Down ‘Wrong Track’” HERE)

Cities Celebrating Fourth of July With Drones Instead of Fireworks

Cities across the country are ditching fireworks and opting for a more environmentally friendly patriotic celebration with a drone light show.

Both Salt Lake City, Utah, and Boulder, Colorado, will be celebrating the 4th of July with its first drone show. Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall said drones are a “safe and sustainable alternative to fireworks.”

“As temperatures rise and fire danger increases, we must be conscientious of both our air quality and the potential for wildfires,” Mendenhall said in a press release. “The summer holiday shows are a mainstay for Salt Lakers and we’re excited about adapting to new technology which will provide a safe alternative for our residents and visitors.”

The city of Boulder stated in a Facebook post the decision to switch is based on fire concerns and climate change. Colorado is currently facing an active wildfire with 1,000 acres burned in Las Animas County, the Denver Gazette reported.
