Ex-U.S. Attorney Says Hunter Biden Indictment Could Sink Deposition, Protect Joe Biden

A former United States attorney said Thursday the indictment of Hunter Biden on nine counts of violating tax laws could sink his upcoming congressional deposition.

Special counsel David Weiss secured the indictment of Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, for failing to pay over $1 million in taxes from 2016 to 2019. “He’s going to plead the Fifth because he now has a criminal charge in California,” former United States Attorney Brett Tollman told Fox News host Jesse Watters.

The House Oversight Committee and House Judiciary Committee issued a subpoena for Hunter Biden on Nov. 8, requiring him to appear before them for a deposition on Dec. 13. Republican Reps, James Comer of Kentucky and Jim Jordan of Ohio, who chair the committees, threatened to initiate contempt of Congress proceedings if Biden did not appear for the deposition.

“They could have brought these charges much earlier,” Tolman added. “They didn’t because they wanted to try to slip one past the American public.” (Read more from “Ex-U.S. Attorney Says Hunter Biden Indictment Could Sink Deposition, Protect Joe Biden” HERE)

‘Bunch of Lies’: Biden Denies Interacting With Hunter’s Business Associates Despite Mountain of New Evidence

President Joe Biden denied that he interacted with his son’s business associates despite a new email search released by the House Ways and Means Committee apparently showing then-Vice President Biden used a pseudonym to exchange more than 50 emails with the individuals.

Mostly during the spring of 2014, Joe Biden conversed with Eric Schwerin, Hunter Biden’s business associate and accountant, using an alias, “Robin Ware,” according to an email search released Tuesday by the House Ways and Means Committee. During the time that most of the emails were exchanged, Hunter Biden joined the board of Ukrainian energy firm Burisma Holdings, the documents show. When asked about the documents on Wednesday, Biden denounced them as “lies.”

“On Ukraine and also China, there is polling by the Associated Press that shows that almost 70% of Americans, including 40% of Democrats, believe that you acted either illegally or unethically in regards to your family’s business interests. Can you explain to Americans, amid this impeachment inquiry, why you interacted with so many of your son and brother’s foreign business associates?” New York Post White House correspondent Steven Nelson asked after Biden’s address on support for Ukraine.

“I’m not going to comment on that. I did not. It’s just a bunch of lies,” Biden responded while Nelson tried to ask a follow up.

“I did not. They’re lies,” Biden continued before waving and exiting the Roosevelt room. (Read more from “‘Bunch of Lies’: Biden Denies Interacting With Hunter’s Business Associates Despite Mountain of New Evidence” HERE)

Bank Investigator Raises Concerns Over Chinese Firm’s Money Route to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden’s Account

A bank money laundering investigator expressed concerns about money sent from a Chinese firm to Hunter Biden’s joint business venture that eventually made its way into Joe Biden’s bank account, according to House Oversight.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer released a June 2018 email from the money laundering expert to colleagues laying out his concerns about $5 million sent from a Chinese firm to Hudson West III, Hunter Biden’s business entity, and subsequent payments to Hunter Biden’s Owasco P.C. bank account.

“Since the initial funding of $5,000,000.00 from Northern International Capital Holdings (HK) Limited on 08/08/17 as a business loan, it was noted that there was no loan agreement document submitted,” the email revealed by Comer reads. The bank and the names of its employees are redacted.

“The funds in the account have primarily funded 16 wires ranging from $157,494.19 to $400,000.00 totaling $2,915,375.25 to [redacted] CLEARING SERVICES LLC (Further Credit Owasco PC — Law Firm in D.C). These payments were indicated as management fees and reimbursements. We find it unusual that approximately 58% of the funds were transferred to the law firm in a few months and the frequency of the payments appear erratic,” the email continues.

“It was also previously indicated that HUDSON WEST III LLC does not currently have any investment projects at this time, which raises further concerns as millions in fees are being paid but does not appear to have any services rendered by Owasco P.C.” (Read more from “Bank Investigator Raises Concerns Over Chinese Firm’s Money Route to Hunter Biden and Joe Biden’s Account” HERE)

Hunter Biden Finally Going to Face Hard Questions From Those Who Won’t ‘Ask Nicely’

. . .After years of delay and denials, the House is about to confirm exactly what the Bidens were so good at doing . . . and what foreign figures wanted so much that they were willing to pay the Bidens millions.

Hunter Biden is now scheduled to appear before the House Oversight Committee on Dec. 13 to answer questions about what is alleged to be the largest influence-peddling operation in history.

Despite being subpoenaed, Hunter is still demanding conditions for answering questions.

His lawyer, Abbe Lowell, previously said Hunter would testify only when “the time is right” and is now saying that Hunter would testify in public, not the scheduled private session.

Republicans rejected that demand. (Read more from “Hunter Biden Finally Going to Face Hard Questions From Those Who Won’t ‘Ask Nicely’” HERE)

Hunter Biden Seeks to Subpoena Donald Trump, Claiming Bias in Gun Case

Hunter Biden’s lawyers asked the judge presiding over his criminal gun case on Wednesday to subpoena former President Donald Trump, former Attorney General Bill Barr, and two other Trump administration officials.

The request signals Hunter Biden’s legal strategy to accuse the Trump administration of political interference in his gun case, the same accusation IRS whistleblowers leveled against President Joe Biden’s Justice department in their probe of Hunter Biden for tax, gun, and potentially FARA violations.

Hunter Biden’s lawyers asked U.S. District Judge Maryellen Noreika to issue several subpoenas to:

1. Trump
2. Barr
3. Former acting Deputy Attorney General Richard Donoghue
4. Former acting Attorney General Jeffrey Rosen

The filing claimed:

Mr. Biden seeks specific information from three former DOJ officials and the former President that goes to the heart of his defense that this is, possibly, a vindictive or selective prosecution arising from an unrelenting pressure campaign beginning in the last administration, in violation of Mr. Biden’s Fifth Amendment rights under the Constitution.

Biden-Appointed U.S. Attorneys Declined to Collaborate on Hunter Biden Investigation

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, special counsel in the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation, confirmed two President Joe Biden-appointed U.S. Attorneys declined to work with him on the case.

Weiss testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Nov. 7 and described how Biden-appointed U.S. Attorneys Matthew Graves of the District of Columbia and E. Martin Estrada of the Central District of California rejected his requests to partner on the Hunter Biden case, according to a transcript reviewed by the Daily Caller.

Weiss recalled reaching out to Graves in early March 2022 about partnering on the Hunter Biden case. The two had a five to 10 minute call about the investigation where Weiss briefed Graves.

“I had never met or spoken with Mr. Graves before. I explained the situation. I talked a little bit about the investigation, some of the background of the investigation,” Weiss said of the call, according to a transcript reviewed by the Daily Caller.

“He was — you know, he was receptive. Like I said, we agreed that my criminal chief, I think, would reach out to his, and we would move forward,” Weiss added after a follow up question. (Read more from “Biden-Appointed U.S. Attorneys Declined to Collaborate on Hunter Biden Investigation” HERE)

Special Counsel in Hunter Biden Investigation Reveals Need for DOJ Tax Division Approval

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, special counsel in the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation, confirmed he needed approval from the Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Tax Division on his decisions during the case.

Weiss testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and admitted that the DOJ Tax Division would have to approve tax charges leveled against Hunter Biden, even with his special counsel authority, according to a transcript of his testimony reviewed by the Daily Caller.

“I’m not going to comment on Tax Division approvals relative to this case. It would entail the deliberative process,” Weiss said. He was willing to speak about the general authority given to the Tax Division, without discussing the Hunter Biden investigation.

“I am aware of the Tax Division responsibilities under title — under the Code of Federal Regulations and the manual,” Weiss stated. He also expressed his understanding that the Tax Division is tasked with approving title 26 tax evasion offenses.

“I am aware that Tax Division approves the charging of title 26 offenses,” Weiss said. (Read more from “Special Counsel in Hunter Biden Investigation Reveals Need for DOJ Tax Division Approval” HERE)

DOJ Declined Top Hunter Biden Prosecutor’s Request for Additional Authority, Testimony Confirms

The Department of Justice (DOJ) declined a request by Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss for additional charging authority for the Hunter Biden case in spring 2022, prior to his special counsel appointment.

Weiss, the lead prosecutor in the Hunter Biden investigation, testified Tuesday before the House Judiciary Committee and described a call with two DOJ officials who turned down his request for special attorney authority under section 515, according to a transcript of his testimony reviewed by the Daily Caller.

Weiss spoke on the phone with Associate Deputy Attorney General Bradley Weinsheimer, his main point of contact, and Principal Associate Deputy Attorney General (PADAG) John Carlin after he reached out about extending the investigation into D.C. and California.

“I initiated email contact with Mr.Carlin, and I subsequently had a conversation with John Carlin, and I believe Brad Weinsheimer was on the call,” Weiss testified.

Weiss described how the DOJ officials told him to follow the normal charging process instead of giving him the extra authority. (Read more from “DOJ Declined Top Hunter Biden Prosecutor’s Request for Additional Authority, Testimony Confirms” HERE)

Top Hunter Biden Prosecutor Confirms Key Detail of IRS Whistleblower Testimony, Jim Jordan Says

Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss, special counsel in the ongoing Hunter Biden investigation, confirmed a key allegation made by IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, Republican Ohio Rep. Jim Jordan said Tuesday.

Weiss testified before the House Judiciary Committee on Tuesday and said he requested special attorney authority under section 515 in the spring of 2022, Judiciary Committee chairman Jim Jordan told reporters. Weiss was not given the special attorney authority and did not have special attorney authority before his special counsel appointment in August, Jordan said.

“When he was specifically asked, did you ever request special attorney authority under Section 515, Mr. Weiss’s response was yes, in the spring of 2022. So that that goes to the heart of the matter,” Jordan stated.

“So to me, that’s the key takeaway. He won’t answer a lot of questions. But that’s the key takeaway, because this whole deposition was about the changing story we got from DOJ, regarding the authority that he had,” he continued. Comer Teases ‘Around Two Dozen Subpoenas’ for Biden Family Investigation

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer teased Sunday “around two dozen subpoenas” to continue the committee’s investigation into the Biden family business enterprise.

Comer was interviewed on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures” with Maria Bartiromo and hinted at the Oversight Committee’s next course of action against the Biden family.

“We’re waiting on a few more documents to come in that we’ve successfully subpoenaed but it’s taking forever. And again Maria, I don’t think the average person can imagine how many different checking accounts the president’s son had. And considering he didn’t have a legitimate business, that in itself is an enormous red flag,” Comer told Bartiromo.

“Once all those come in, I think you’re gonna see swift action on the Bidens, and I would predict somewhere around two dozen subpoenas in the very near future,” Comer added.

The Oversight Committee subpoenaed personal and business bank records from Hunter Biden and his uncle James Biden in late September after the first impeachment inquiry hearing into President Biden. (Read more from “Comer Teases ‘Around Two Dozen Subpoenas’ for Biden Family Investigation” HERE)
