Democrats Aren’t Going to Like WaPo’s New Poll on Trump’s Immigration Policies

As the Democrats increasingly embrace the radical and widely unpopular #AbolishICE movement promoted by “the future” of the party Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, The Washington Post has some sobering news for the party: a strong majority of Americans support Donald Trump’s policies on detaining illegal immigrant families as opposed to the Democrats’ approach.

The Washington Post found that most Americans disagree with the position pushed by a federal judge in California demanding that the Trump administration quickly release migrants with children who have entered the country illegally and allow the family to stay until a future hearing — the illegal immigration-promoting “catch and release” policy of the Obama administration.

Unfortunately for the #AbolishICE Democrats, the Post found “broad support” not for the Democrats’ preferred policy, but for Trump’s approach:

Despite the legal setback, the Post-Schar School poll shows broad support for the policy Trump administration lawyers pushed for, including among a wide range of political groups. Keeping immigrant families in detention rather than releasing them garners support from 74 percent of Republicans and 60 percent of independents. Democrats — 89 percent of whom disapprove of Trump’s handling of immigration — are almost evenly split on the question, with 49 percent saying families should be detained, while 50 percent say they should be temporarily released.

There is little gender gap on the question, with 59 percent of men and 57 percent of women preferring to detain immigrant families together until their case is resolved. That compares with child-parent separations, about which women were 25 percentage points more likely than men to say they “strongly opposed” (65 percent vs. 40 percent).

Here’s Why Abolishing ICE Is a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Idea

The Left has a new crusade: pushing to abolish Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It’s not because all federal bureaucracies are wasteful, incompetent, and inefficient, a claim that besides surely being true is appealing across the political spectrum. They claim the agency is a “deportation force” ripping families apart.

Erasing the country’s ability to vet who comes into our country is not just being embraced by the radicals of the so-called “resistance,” but increasingly by Democratic Party politicians. The stance was largely confined to the op-ed pages of left-wing and libertarian publications until U.S. senator and likely 2020 presidential candidate Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) supported it. . .

But the demands for abolishing ICE are not about limiting government corruption through reducing its size. Merely eliminating the agency would make America less safe and put the American people at risk. If if another organization merely replaces it instead, that would ultimately accomplish nothing. It would be an expensive symbolic gesture.Either one would also create an incentive to increase illegal immigration. . .

ICE was created in 2003 in the wake of the 9/11 attacks as a part of the Department of Homeland Security, taking over from the Immigration and Naturalization Service. INS failed to catch five of the nine 9/11 hijackers who overstayed their visas. ICE was created because the INS had proved ineffective at enforcing immigration laws.

ICE incorporated the internal enforcement powers of INS and the investigative and intelligence services of the U.S. Customs Service. It has two departments, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO). HSI focuses on things such as arms smuggling, drug trafficking, and other crimes. Here’s an example of some of their work:

The Facts: 48,000 Assaults Attributed to Illegal Aliens in 2017

Illegal [aliens] who were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement were responsible for more than 48,000 assault offenses in 2017, according to a White House press release Thursday.

Illegals captured by ICE were also responsible for more than 5,000 sexual assault offenses, 2,000 kidnapping offenses, 1,800 homicide offenses and 76,000 dangerous drug offenses, according to the press release. . .

The release also highlights the role of ICE in seizing illegal drugs, noting the agency seized 980,000 pounds of narcotics in 2017, with 2,370 pounds of fentanyl and 6,967 pounds of heroin seized. . .

The release comes in the wake of several Democrats calling for the abolition of ICE, including New York Democratic Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand and Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal of Washington, according to a Tuesday CNN report.

Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders also called for the abolition of ICE on Tuesday, tweeting that the agency was “cruel” and “dysfunctional” and claiming that Americans overwhelmingly want to abolish it. (Read more from “The Facts: 48,000 Assaults Attributed to Illegal Aliens in 2017” HERE)

C’Mon! Leftists Protest ICE Officials as They Infiltrate a Child Sex Trafficking Ring Ran by Illegals

Liberal protesters in California scrambled to protest as they believed ICE agents were making an immigration raid on neighbors.

They gathered outside of an Oakland home Tuesday where Homeland Security officials were actually executing a federal criminal search warrant in connection with a child sex trafficking ring. . .

Clueless young liberals speaking with KPIX-TV admitted that although they didn’t know the details of what the federal agents were doing, the fact that they saw “a bunch of cop cars, a bunch of other cars that are apparently ICE cars,” was alarming given that there are “a lot of injustices going on.”

Oakland Police confirmed to KPIX that “this was in fact a federal criminal search warrant executed in connection with human sex trafficking of juveniles right here in the 700 block of 27th street,” reporter Neda Iranpour shared.

The ridiculous knee-jerk reactions of the left, especially as law enforcement was in the process of doing their job of rescuing human trafficking victims, were mocked and lambasted on Twitter.

How Do Americans Truly Feel About Abolishing ICE?

More bad polling news keeps streaming in for a Democratic Party increasingly embracing more radical left positions. Amid polls showing that the Democrats’ plan to block Donald Trump’s Supreme Court nominee doesn’t sit well with a majority of Americans, another poll on a hot button election year topic didn’t go the way the “future of the party” would’ve hoped.

The #AbolishICE movement, promoted by several high-profile Democrats, including rising star Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, is not something many Americans feel they can get behind. Though HuffPost hasn’t given up on the possibility that the movement might catch on, the outlet found in its new poll that “abolishing ICE isn’t very popular (yet).”

The radical hashtag movement, HuffPost explains, grew into “a key policy plank in the biggest political upset this election cycle” with the upset victory of Ocasio-Cortez, who says that we have a moral obligation to shut down the immigration enforcement agency. “Morally, we need to abolish ICE,” said the self-styled Democratic Socialist. “We are now at a moral crisis with the development of what’s going on at the border. Pushing for an immediate stop to that if we haven’t done it by November is absolutely a No. 1 priority.”

After witnessing her rather stunning victory over the incumbent many assumed would be “Nancy Pelosi’s successor,” many progressives have concluded that her radical call to end immigration enforcement as we know it might be the key to that longed-for “blue wave” in November. But how do Americans feel about the hashtag campaign-turned-progressives’ “No. 1 priority”? Not so great. HuffPost reports:

Opinions on ICE as an agency are mixed: Just 37 percent of those surveyed said they have a favorable opinion of the agency, and 39 percent said they have a negative opinion. But the public appears far from eager to get rid of the agency. Just 21 percent of respondents said they support abolishing ICE, while 44 percent said they oppose it, with 35 percent undecided. Nearly 3 in 10 Americans polled said they strongly oppose the idea.

Abolish ICE Group Distances Self From Woman Who Scaled Statue of Liberty

Authorities had to close and evacuate Liberty Island on Wednesday after a female protester scaled the Statue of Liberty. The woman, who was acting out against the White House policy of separating illegal immigrant families at the border, was eventually captured after a tense standoff with police. The ordeal lasted roughly four hours.

Before the protester’s climb, activists from a group called “Rise and Resist” hung a banner with a message about abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement from the statue. Six people were arrested after the stunt. . .

Immigration activists continue to demand the Trump administration end its zero tolerance policy of separating illegal immigrant families at the border. The president signed an executive order to keep families together, but it does not reunite those families who had already been separated. Popcorn: Far Left’s Call to Abolish ICE Is Making Some Democratic Pollsters Nervous

This is not a drill; abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement is the new rallying cry for the far left. Sen. Kristen Gillibrand (D-NY) called for it, as has New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, who challenged and recently beat top Democrat Joe Crowley in a major upset last week has also called for it. Debra Haaland, who is the Democratic candidate for the 1stcongressional district in New Mexico, also supports abolishing the federal law enforcement agency. Rep. Mark Pocan (D-WI) has introduced a bill abolishing ICE—and you bet Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) is behind this policy push as well. Yet, while dissolving ICE may be turning into the progressive left’s latest crack cocaine addiction, Democratic pollsters are nervous that a) the position is too extreme (it is); and b) it plays right into the Republican Party’s hands (which it does) (via AXIOS):

Celinda Lake, longtime Democratic pollster, told Axios: “I worry that abolishing ICE tips the issues from humane treatment to security. The Republicans are already trying to move the issue in that direction.”

Lake added: “Voters believe we need some enforcement of border security — not just for immigration, but for security. I wish we were pushing this to: ‘We need comprehensive immigration reform.'”

Republicans are rejoicing at the notion of a new litmus test for Democrats, especially ones who have presidential ambitions in 2020.

Alex Castellanos, longtime adviser to top Republicans, said Dems are making the mistake his own party made after losing to Barack Obama: “[W]e became so weak, marginalizing ourselves to such an extreme, that an outsider business guy who had never run for office before, extinguished us all.”

ICE Director Slams Liberals Protesting Illegal Alien Family Separation

Acting Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Tom Homan said Friday that Democrats who protest his agency for separating illegal immigrant families are barking up the wrong tree, since his agency has nothing to do with it.

“They need to educate themselves,” Homan said on Fox News. “I mean, this protest yesterday to protest about family separations on the border, ICE doesn’t separate families on the border. That’s the Border Patrol. We’re a different agency.” . . .

Some Democratic lawmakers joined protesters this week who said ICE should be abolished for enforcing U.S. border laws. Homan said Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., was one of the lawmakers who are directing her anger at the wrong agency.

“As far as Gillibrand, she needs to study the issue too, because she went to a protest on family separation on the border, and she tries to blame ICE for it, ICE separated families,” he said. “First of all, she’s gotta get her facts straight.” . . .

Homan stressed that he wasn’t blaming the Border Patrol for family separation either, and said Congress should be blamed for failing to tweak federal law in a way that would allow families to be detained together. Amazon: ICE Contract Is Like Assisting Hitler With the Holocaust

Amazon employees sent an open letter to CEO Jeff Bezos Friday protesting the company’s contract with Immigration and Customs Enforce (ICE), comparing it to IBM’s contract with Adolf Hitler during the second world war.

“As ethically concerned Amazonians, we demand a choice in what we build, and a say in how it is used. We learn from history, and we understand how IBM’s systems were employed in the 1940s to help Hitler,” the letter states. “IBM did not take responsibility then, and by the time their role was understood, it was too late. We will not let that happen again. The time to act is now.”

Holocaust experts claim that IBM directly supplied the Nazis with technology that assisted operating the Auschwitz and Treblinka concentration camps, The Independent reports.

The employees called on the company to “stop selling facial recognition services to law enforcement” and “stop providing infrastructure to Palantir and any other Amazon partners who enable ICE.” . . .

“Once a dangerous surveillance system like this is turned against the public, the harm can’t be undone. Particularly in the current political climate, we need to stop supercharged surveillance before it is used to track protesters, target immigrants and spy on entire neighborhoods. We’re blowing the whistle before it’s too late,” Nicole Ozer, technology and civil liberties director for the ACLU of California, said in a statement provided to TheDCNF in May. This Lesbian Actress-Turned Politician Claims ICE Is a ‘Terrorist Group’

Cynthia Nixon, an actress turned gubernatorial challenger for New York governor, called the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency a “terrorist organization” and wants it abolished, according to published reports. . .

Nixon, a Democrat, made the comment Thursday at St. Paul and St. Andrew United Methodist Church on the Upper West Side in New York City. She was there to support undocumented Guatemalan immigrant Debora Vasquez-Barrios, a mother of two who sought sanctuary at the church in early June after ICE told her that she is facing deportation.

“ICE has strayed so far from its mission,” said Nixon, who previously starred on “Sex in the City.” “It’s supposed to be here to keep Americans safe but what it’s turned into is frankly a terrorist organization of its own. It’s terrorizing people who are coming to this country.” . . .

“I think we need to abolish ICE,” Nixon said earlier in the day on “The View.” “That seems really clear. They have strayed so far from the interests of the American people and the interests of humanity.”

The 52-year-old actress is challenging Gov. Andrew Cuumo for the Democratic nomination for governor. Last week, a Siena College poll showed her behind Cumo, 61 to 26 percent. The primary is set for Sept. 13. (Read more from “This Lesbian Actress-Turned Politician Claims ICE Is a ‘Terrorist Group'” HERE)
