ICE Director Blasts Dems: Don’t Call Us Anti-Immigrant

The acting director of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) slammed Rep. Nanette Barragan (D-CA) on Tuesday after she falsely accused the agency of being “anti-immigrant. . .

“Now we love to talk about this issue about the MS-13 gangs, we love paint immigrants as criminals,” Barragan said. “That is not the complete facts and that is very offensive for me to see continuing to happen, is continuing to message this is anti-immigrant agenda.”

“There are many of lots of good immigrants, and then I hear this rhetoric ‘more DACA like people,’ guess what,” Barragan arrogantly exclaimed. “DACA like people are the people we need in this country, they serve this country, they’ve gone to college, they produce and they contribute to the economy so to put them into the same category is completely offensive.” . . .

“First of all, no one on this panel is anti-immigrant, we are law enforcement officers that are enforcing the law that you all enacted, so to sit there and say we are anti-immigrant is just wrong,” Homan responded. “We are just enforcing the laws, if you think it’s okay to for them to enter this country and they shouldn’t be arrested that’s just wrong.” (Read more from “ICE Director Blasts Dems: Don’t Call Us Anti-Immigrant” HERE)

Twice Deported Illegal Alien Accused of Raping Teen Released by Sheriff Without Reporting to ICE

By Bizpac Review. An illegal alien accused of raping a young girl was allowed to walk out of a county jail without notification to immigration authorities.

Anastacio Eugenio Lopez Fabian, 24, faced several charges related to sexual relations with a girl under 14 years old, and was ultimately detained by ICE despite a lack of cooperation from a Washington sheriff’s office, the Daily Astorian reports.

Lopez was charged with two counts of second-degree rape, three counts of third-degree rape, fourth-degree assault, and harassment for alleged relations with a minor beginning in 2016.

Police arrested him in February, but he was released the same day after posting $25,000 bail.

On the day Lopez arrived for a hearing at Clatsop County Circuit Court, ICE was on the scene and detained him, transporting him to Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma. (Read more from “Twice Deported Illegal Alien Accused of Raping Teen Released by Sheriff Without Reporting to ICE” HERE)

Suspect Deported Twice Before Alleged Rape of Underage Seaside Girl

By The Daily Astorian. He has been charged with two counts of second-degree rape, three counts of third-degree rape, fourth-degree assault and harassment. A mandatory minimum sentence of more than six years in prison applies to second-degree rape convictions.

ICE detained him in the courthouse parking lot as he arrived for a hearing. He is in custody at the private Northwest Detention Center in Tacoma, Washington, according to the federal agency’s records. Fabian was deported to Guatemala in 2013 and 2014, according to a statement from ICE spokeswoman Carissa Cutrell, who also said the Clatsop County Sheriff’s Office did not alert the agency of his most recent arrest . . .

Sheriff Tom Bergin said the timing and coordination of Fabian’s initial arrest and release did not allow for his office to notify the agency.

“He posted bail, so there’s not much we can do unless ICE notifies us, which it didn’t,” Bergin said. “ICE puts out a blanket statement every time they do these things because they want to cover their butts. Believe me, we want to hold these guys.”

The federal agency criticized the county last year for not adhering to its requests to detain undocumented immigrants. Bergin pointed to a U.S. District Court case in Portland in which a judge ruled in favor of a woman detained by ICE at a Clackamas County jail, claiming the Fourth Amendment protected her against unreasonable search and seizure. ICE to Trump: Don’t Cave on Border Security Promises

The National ICE Council sent a letter to President Donald Trump on Friday expressing its opposition to his administration’s proposed immigration plan.

The council, which endorsed Trump in the 2016 presidential election, argues against the White House’s four-point plan to address the issue of “dreamers” — illegal immigrants brought to the U.S. as children who were previously covered by the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program.

Trump’s plan provides a pathway to citizenship for DACA recipients and other illegal immigrants, while also setting aside billions of dollars in funding for security measures along the U.S.-Mexico border.

But according to ICE President Chris Crane, the plan doesn’t do enough to stop businesses from hiring illegal immigrants or crack down on sanctuary cities.

“We simply cannot in good faith support any legislative effort on immigration that does not include provisions regarding immigration detainers, sanctuary cities and the smuggling and trafficking of children across U.S. borders,” Crane wrote in the letter, according to The Washington Times.

“What you negotiate on immigration isn’t just a give and take negotiation,” the letter added, explaining that the proposed plan leaves “gaping holes” in ICE’s ability to protect the border.

“It sets the table for our nation’s immigration enforcement policies and strategy moving forward, and any critical enforcement measures bargained away potentially leaves gaping holes in law enforcement’s ability to provide for public safety and national security,” the letter reads.

Trump detailed his immigration plan last week in his State of the Union address.

Under the proposal, roughly 1.8 million illegal immigrants would essentially receive amnesty, but only if certain demands are met.

These demands include $25 billion for construction of a border wall and an end to the visa lottery and chain migration systems. Instead, Trump wants a merit-based program that prioritizes skilled immigrants who will contribute to American society.

As noted by The Times, Trump has touted the proposal as a compromise, with the White House saying that stronger enforcement measures will be implemented in the second phase of the plan.

Many Democrats, though, have rejected this proposal, arguing that the president is holding DACA recipients hostage.

Crane, on the other hand, thinks the immigration plan doesn’t go far enough. His organization, which represents 7,500 ICE employees, will not support amnesty for dreamers unless there is legislation that promises to immediately crack down on illegal immigration.

“We cannot and will not turn our backs on the victims of sanctuary cities and jurisdictions, and therefore cannot support any legislation that does not attempt to rectify this growing problem,” Crane wrote.

Republicans and Democrats on Capitol Hill have about a month to come up with a legislative solution to the DACA issue. Trump rescinded the Obama-era executive order in September 2017, giving Congress until March 5 to pass legislation addressing the fate of DACA recipients.

In the House of Representatives, many conservatives support an immigration bill put forward by Virginia GOP Rep Bob Goodlatte, the chairman of the Judiciary Committee.

That bill “would crack down on sanctuary cities, impose mandatory E-Verify on businesses, make it a crime to overstay a visitor’s visa and protect communities that cooperate in deportations,” The Times reported.

But in the Senate, it’s more difficult to rally support for hardline immigration legislation.

On Monday, Republican Sen. John McCain of Arizona and Democrat Sen. Chris Coons of Delaware proposed a bill that would protect young illegal immigrants from deportation. The legislation also increases border security, though it does not specifically contain funding for a wall.

However, in a Monday morning tweet, Trump seemed to reject this proposal on the basis that it “does not include STRONG border security and the desperately needed WALL.”

“Any deal on DACA that does not include STRONG border security and the desperately needed WALL is a total waste of time. March 5th is rapidly approaching and the Dems seem not to care about DACA. Make a deal!” the president tweeted. (For more from the author of “ICE to Trump: Don’t Cave on Border Security Promises” please click HERE)

ICE Struck a Deal to Track License Plates Across the U.S.

By Russell Brandom. The Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency has officially gained agency-wide access to a nationwide license plate recognition database, according to a contract finalized earlier this month. The system gives the agency access to billions of license plate records and new powers of real-time location tracking, raising significant concerns from civil libertarians.

The source of the data is not named in the contract, but an ICE representative said the data came from Vigilant Solutions, the leading network for license plate recognition data. “Like most other law enforcement agencies, ICE uses information obtained from license plate readers as one tool in support of its investigations,” spokesperson Dani Bennett said in a statement. “ICE is not seeking to build a license plate reader database, and will not collect nor contribute any data to a national public or private database through this contract.”

Reached by The Verge, Vigilant declined to confirm any contract with ICE. “As policy, Vigilant Solutions is not at liberty to share any contractual details,” the company said in a statement. “This is a standard agreement between our company, our partners, and our clients.”

While it collects few photos itself, Vigilant Solutions has amassed a database of more than 2 billion license plate photos by ingesting data from partners like vehicle repossession agencies and other private groups. Vigilant also partners with local law enforcement agencies, often collecting even more data from camera-equipped police cars. The result is a massive vehicle-tracking network generating as many as 100 million sightings per month, each tagged with a date, time, and GPS coordinates of the sighting. Now ICE Can Track License Plates, and Fears Are Mounting

By The Miami Herald. An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) contract to access a license plate recognition database is reinforcing undocumented migrants’ fears of being located and deported to their home countries . . .

That means ICE agents can track the movements of a license plate for the past five years, which could lead to home addresses and other places and people associated with the car owner.

The contract also allows ICE to access motor vehicle registration lists, which could provide its agents with real-time addresses and lead to an increase in deportations. (Read more from “Now ICE Can Track License Plates, and Fears Are Mounting” HERE)

Obama’s ICE ‘Missed Opportunities’ to Arrest High-Risk Terror-Linked Aliens

The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency under former President Barack Obama may have failed to identify and arrest “highest risk” known or suspected terrorist aliens due to the absence of follow-up screenings after they are released.

Sanctuary cities that refused to cooperate with immigration authorities also prevented the agency from following up on the individuals in question, reveals a watchdog agency.

Based on a study of case files of detained aliens identified as known or suspected terrorists during fiscal years 2013 through 2015, the inspector general for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) found:

ICE continues to face significant challenges with its screening of aliens who may have ties to terrorism. Auditors warn ICE may have missed opportunities to identify, apprehend, and adjudicate the status of aliens posing the highest risk to public safety and national security.

The audit indicated law enforcement agencies in sanctuary cities prevent ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) from screening criminal aliens for terrorist ties. (Read more from “Obama’s ICE ‘Missed Opportunities’ to Arrest High-Risk Terror-Linked Aliens” HERE)

ICE Agents Rebel, Say Trump Betrayed Them

By Stephen Dinan. The country’s immigration enforcement officers launched a website Tuesday demanding that President Trump do more to clean up their agency, saying he has left the Obama team in place and it’s stymying his goal of enforcing laws on the books.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement supervisors in Philadelphia banned officers from wearing bulletproof vests during an operation in the dangerous “badlands” section in the city’s north for fear of offending the immigrant community, according to a new website, JICReport.com.

Meanwhile, officers in one Utah city are required to give city officials seven days’ heads-up before arresting anyone — and by the time they go to make the arrest, the immigrants they are targeting have taken off, the website says.

Compiled by the National ICE Council, which represents ICE officers, the website is part whistleblower and part primal scream for Mr. Trump to pay attention to a group of people who were among his staunchest backers during the presidential campaign.

“ICE Officers grudgingly admit that the only President they ever endorsed hasn’t kept his word, and many officers now feel betrayed,” the officers say on the website. (Read more from “ICE Agents Rebel, Say Trump Betrayed Them” HERE)

ICE Uproar: Agents’ Union Blasts Trump’s ‘Betrayal,’ Says Obama Holdovers Still in Place

By Fox News Insider. The union representing ICE officers is accusing President Trump of “betraying” them by leaving in place officials from the Obama administration.

The National ICE Council said this week, “ICE Officers grudgingly admit that the only President they ever endorsed hasn’t kept his word, and many officers now feel betrayed.” . . .

Laura Ingraham discussed the situation with Stephen Dinan, who covered the story for the Washington Times, and David Ward of the National Association of Former Border Patrol Officers.

Dinan said there were examples on the council’s website of how the situation is playing out on the ground. In Philadelphia, ICE agents were instructed by an official not to wear bulletproof vests in a dangerous neighborhood out of concern that it would offend residents. Report: ICE Plans MAJOR Gang Crackdown With Nationwide Raids

The Trump administration and immigration agents will conduct a nationwide raid campaign next week to arrest suspected gang members.

An internal administration memo obtained by Reuters indicates that the raids are set to begin on Sunday and continue through Wednesday, targeting, among others, illegal immigrant minors aged 16 and 17.

The Trump administration’s targeting of illegal immigrant minors for suspected gang activity is a reversal of Obama administration policy, which did not arrest minors on suspicion of gang activity and reserved deportation for convicted criminals.

“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said in a statement that a person can be identified as a gang member if they meet two or more criteria, including having gang tattoos, frequenting an area notorious for gangs and wearing gang apparel,” Reuters reports.

The memo obtained by Reuters was dated June 30. A Department of Homeland Security official confirmed to Reuters Friday that the raids will are still scheduled to take place, though ICE’s plans are subject to change.

President Trump promised to crack down on the violent crimes committed by gangs like MS-13 during his campaign for president. During a speech he delivered in May, the president said MS-13 would be “gone from our streets very soon, believe me.” (For more from the author of “Report: ICE Plans MAJOR Gang Crackdown With Nationwide Raids” please click HERE)

ICE Director: No Illegal Alien Should ‘Be Comfortable’

Immigration and Customs Enforcement Director Thomas Homan said at a White House press briefing Wednesday that no illegal immigrant should “be comfortable” in the U.S.

Homan was at the briefing with U.S. Attorney John Huber to support two anti-illegal immigration bills that Congress is set to vote on. One of the bills will not allow jurisdictions that refuse to comply with immigration detainers to receive grants from the Department of Homeland Security and the Department of Justice. The other bill would increase the punishments for a deported illegal immigrant who returns to the U.S.

The ICE director said that these bills signify additional tools in his toolbox to combat illegal immigration. The Daily Caller previously reported that while immigration reduction groups are in support of the laws, they don’t think they go far enough. The Davis-Oliver Act would also target sanctuary cities and illegal immigrants who have returned back to the U.S. in addition to several other measures . . .

The 33-year law enforcement veteran highlighted the effects of President Trump’s executive orders on illegal immigration and said that since these were signed in late January ICE has arrested 66,000 individuals known or suspected of being in the country illegally. This is a 39.3 percent increase over the same period in 2016. (Read more from “ICE Director: No Illegal Alien Should ‘Be Comfortable'” HERE)

ICE Arrests in Metro Detroit Terrify Iraqi Christians

A family Sunday at the beach turned out to be a nightmare for the Barash family and for metro Detroit’s Chaldean population — Catholics who hail from Iraq.

Authorities seized Moayad Barash, 47, and whisked him away, his daughter Cynthia, 18, said.

Barash, a Baghdad native, was one of 30 to 40 people seized by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Sunday — all of whom face the threat of deportation.

“My dad is Christian and Donald Trump is sending him back to a place that is not safe whatsoever,” Cynthia Barash said, referring to the persecution of Christians in Baghdad, Mosul and across the largely Muslim nation. (Read more from “ICE Arrests in Metro Detroit Terrify Iraqi Christians” HERE)

ICE Spent Tens of Thousands of Dollars Sending Officials to Tolerance Seminar

Immigration and Customs Enforcement spent tens of thousands of dollars to send its officials to a “tolerance seminar” put on by the Simon Wiesenthal Center, a group known for opposing immigration control efforts.

Documents provided by ICE to the Immigration Reform Law Institute in response to a Freedom of Information Act request indicate that several dozen ICE officials attended a Simon Wiesenthal Center seminar in Los Angeles. The documents state that the training cost about $1,500 for each official.

The PowerPoint presentation officials viewed at the three-day “Tools for Tolerance” seminar discusses ICE’s own goals regarding “workplace demographics” and the agency’s “diversity and inclusion strategic plan.”

And yet, the documents also show that ICE’s workforce, comprised of more than 200,000 employees, is already in full alignment with American racial demographics. What’s more, in some areas, ICE even far exceeds diversity requirements. More than 50 percent of Border Patrol agents are Hispanic.

“The training was intended to develop “greater cultural awareness” and designed for agents to “recognize their own inherent cultural biases,” as The Daily Caller News Foundation exclusively reported in August 2016.
