Report: Here’s How McCarthy Is Seeking Revenge for His Ouster

Former Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) may be out of Congress but his work is not done. After his historic ouster as speaker of the House, McCarthy is reportedly planning revenge against the Republicans who joined Democrats in giving him the boot.

McCarthy allies are looking to recruit primary challengers to the “Gaetz Eight,” the nickname for the members of Congress who joined Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) in pushing McCarthy out of his job.

The McCarthy revenge campaign is ready to marshal the former speaker’s considerable donor network on behalf of Republican primary candidates who are deemed strong enough to pose a credible threat to one of the eight. […]

Behind the scenes, McCarthy allies have identified three of the Gaetz Eight as the most vulnerable in primaries and thus, the ripest targets: Reps. Nancy Mace (R-S.C.), Bob Good (R-Va.) and Eli Crane (R-Ariz.). Mace and Good already have strong challengers, but Crane still lacks a compelling prospective candidate to take him on.

That quiet work shows McCarthy’s appetite for payback remains intense, even months after his October ouster as speaker and December departure from Congress. It also illustrates that even out of office, the former speaker and his supporters can make life miserable for his detractors — a further sign that the House GOP power struggle between burn-it-down hardliners and more establishment conservatives is alive and well.

[McCarthy ally Brian O.] Walsh is acting with McCarthy’s blessing. While the former speaker is not involved in the day-to-day work of the project, he is briefed on its progress, as are key donors, according to a person familiar with the effort who was granted anonymity to discuss it. (Politico)

NPR Reporter Observed Ex-Speaker Kevin McCarthy Physically Assault GOP Rep Who Voted Him Out

By New York Post. Former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy was accused Tuesday of elbowing one of the eight Republicans who voted to strip him of the gavel last month.

Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) told CNN that McCarthy (R-Calif.) hit him with a “clean shot to the kidneys” as the former speaker walked past Burchett following a House Republican conference meeting.

NPR reporter Claudia Grisales, who was talking with Burchett at the time, tweeted that the impact almost knocked the 59-year-old Tennessean into her.

“Why’d you elbow me in the back, Kevin?” Burchett yelled after the former speaker, according to audio of the exchange. “Hey Kevin, you got any guts!? Jerk.”

Burchett then chased after the-58-year-old McCarthy, who denied he’d done anything untoward.

‘I Myself Have Been a Victim’: Gaetz Files Complaint Against McCarthy After ‘Sucker Punch’

By Raw Story. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) on Tuesday filed an ethics complaint against Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) after he allegedly jabbed his elbow into another member of Congress.

Gaetz explained in a letter to the Ethics Committee that Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) accused McCarthy of elbowing him earlier on Tuesday. Punchbowl News first reported the letter.

“This assault was witnessed by numerous people, including Claudia Griseles of NPR, who was interviewing Rep. Burchett at the time,” Gaetz wrote. “Rep. Burchett has described the attack as a ‘sucker punch’ and ‘a clean shot to the kidney.'”

“Needless to say, this incident deserves immediate and swift investigation by the Ethics Committee,” he continued. “I myself have been a victim of outrageous conduct on the House floor as well, but nothing like an open and public assault on a Member, committed by another Member. The rot starts at the top.”

“I request the House Committee on Ethics to proceed immediately with an investigation into the facts of today’s incident, including interviewing, under oath, the alleged assailant and assailee, and any witnesses.”

New Management: Johnson To Shake up House Leadership

Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) will run the House Elected Leadership Committee and will eliminate the chairmanship role, the Washington Examiner learned Monday.

The shake-up is the latest example of Johnson making leadership moves in his two weeks on the job, succeeding Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA), who was ousted on Oct. 3 by a small group of GOP rebels.

Under McCarthy, the Elected Leadership Committee was led by Rep. Garret Graves (R-LA), who was not in elected leadership. However, Graves, a staunch ally of McCarthy, was tasked with leading the meetings and acted as the point man for the former speaker. Establishment-Pawn Fox News Goes Full Jihad on Reps Who Didn’t Back McCarthy

Kilmeade, known for being an establishment stooge, lost his cool on live TV and actually ridiculed the idea of “prayer” in some misguided effort to defend the GOP establishment’s honor. The disgraceful and completely unprofessional incident occurred during an interview with Tennessee Rep. Tim Burchett, who voted in favor of removing McCarthy. Kilmeade was so infuriated by Mr. Burchett’s commitment to representing his constituents that he lost his composure, resorting to mocking Rep. Burchett for his act of prayer.

Needless to say, Christians were not impressed by Brian’s rudeness and lack of respect for faith. . . Below is the full interview between Brian Kilmeade and Tim Burchett.

Jim Jordan Enters Race for House Speaker

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) is running for speaker of the GOP-led House of Representatives.

A spokesman for the lawmaker confirmed Jordan’s plans to The Daily Wire on Wednesday, less than a day after the chamber ousted Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from the position.

In a quote reported by the Washington Examiner, Jordan said after coming out of the speaker’s office, “I’ve had a lot of people reach out to us, asking me to do it, because I think we can. We’ll see if that happens, but I think I can.”

Multiple Republicans have already voiced support for Jordan as a candidate.

“My first choice if he will run,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) said in a post to X. (Read more from “Jim Jordan Enters Race for House Speaker” HERE)

McCarthy Ousted as Speaker, No Plans to Run Again

Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) will not seek to regain the Speaker’s gavel, he announced Tuesday night hours after losing a motion to vacate the chair.

McCarthy spoke and took questions for 45 minutes after announcing his intentions to step down to his GOP colleagues in a closed-door meeting.

“I believe I can continue to fight, maybe in a different manner,” McCarthy told a packed Capitol room outside the Speaker’s office. “I will not run for Speaker again, I’ll have the conference pick somebody else.”

The former Speaker spoke whimsically at times about his long journey to the speakership and expressed no regrets over the choices he made in the days leading up to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) filing the motion to vacate that ended his tenure.

“Doing the right thing isn’t always easy, but it is necessary,” he said, smiling. “I don’t regret standing up for choosing governing over grievance.” (Read more from “McCarthy Ousted as Speaker, No Plans to Run Again” HERE)

‘Shouldn’t Be in the GOP’: House Republicans Slam Matt Gaetz, Others Who Voted Out Kevin McCarthy

Several House Republicans slammed Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and other conservatives for voting to oust Speaker Kevin McCarthy on Tuesday.

The House voted 216 to 210 adopting the motion to vacate the speaker filed by Gaetz after McCarthy led the chamber in passing a 47-day continuing resolution to avoid a government shutdown over the weekend. Republican Reps. Don Bacon of Nebraska, Dan Crenshaw of Texas, Mike Collins of Georgia and Derrick Van Orden of Wisconsin, who all voted against the motion, criticized the eight GOP members who voted with Democrats to remove McCarthy from the speakership.

“I’d love to have (Gaetz) out of the conference,” Bacon told CNN’s Annie Grayer following the vote. “He shouldn’t be in the GOP Party.”

Rep. Kelly Armstrong of North Dakota, who also voted against McCarthy’s ouster, told CNN’s Wolf Blitzer that he expects there will be an effort to expel Gaetz, as well.

“If you’re voting with every single Democrat in the House to oust a Republican Speaker, it’s not about winning for your constituents. It’s not about winning for conservatives. Based on all the fundraising emails we are seeing, it’s only about personal attention,” Crenshaw wrote in a tweet. “There are people who fight for you, and people who fight for your attention. Big difference.” (Read more from “‘Shouldn’t Be in the GOP’: House Republicans Slam Matt Gaetz, Others Who Voted Out Kevin McCarthy” HERE)

Matt Gaetz Files Motion to Remove Kevin McCarthy as House Speaker

Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz of Florida filed a motion Monday to remove House Speaker Kevin McCarthy from his position.

Gaetz had vowed to bring such a “motion to vacate the chair” following Congress’ rapid enactment of a continuing resolution on Saturday to avoid a government shutdown, which was supported in the House by Democrats and moderate Republicans but opposed by GOP conservatives. Gaetz has argued that McCarthy’s decision to accept Democratic support breached an agreement reached in January, which led to his speakership after 15 rounds of voting, as well as claimed that he engaged in a “secret side deal” with President Joe Biden to fund Ukraine’s war effort against Russia, which he and other House Republicans have opposed, leading him to file a motion to vacate the chair on Monday.

“Resolved, the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives is hereby declared to be vacant,” Gaetz read from his privileged resolution at the conclusion of Monday’s votes.

House Dems ‘Expect’ Ukraine Aid Vote After Shutdown Averted

Leaders of the House Democrats said they “expect” House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) to queue up a Ukraine aid vote following the passage of a short-term spending bill that averted a government shutdown.

The joint statement, released by the office of House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) on Saturday, was quickly referred to as a “side deal” with Democrats by some Republicans who opposed the 45-day continuing resolution.

“When the House returns, we expect Speaker McCarthy to advance a bill to the House Floor for an up-or-down vote that supports Ukraine, consistent with his commitment to making sure that Vladimir Putin, Russia and authoritarianism are defeated,” the joint statement said. “We must stand with the Ukrainian people until victory is won.”

The statement was issued by Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark (D-MA), Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar (D-CA), and Vice Chair Ted Lieu (D-CA). (Read more from “House Dems ‘Expect’ Ukraine Aid Vote After Shutdown Averted” HERE)

Speaker McCarthy Responds to Ouster Threat: ‘I’ll Survive’

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) flashed confidence in his ability to prevail over an effort to remove him as speaker following the passage of a short-term spending bill that averted a government shutdown.

During a CBS News interview on Sunday, “Face the Nation” anchor Margaret Brennan asked McCarthy to respond to Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) announcing that he intends to file a “motion to vacate” against McCarthy this coming week.

“That’s nothing new. He’s tried to do that from the moment I ran for [the] office,” McCarthy said. “Yes, I’ll survive,” he added when pressed to respond to the latest threat.

Gaetz, who appeared on multiple Sunday morning TV shows, announced that McCarthy would face a motion to vacate this coming week after the House voted 335-91 to pass a short-term spending bill with the support of Democrats.
