Report: Kevin McCarthy Gave Thousands of Hours of Jan. 6 Footage to Tucker Carlson

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave Fox News host and Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson exclusive access to 41,000 hours of footage from the Jan. 6 Capitol riot, Axios reported Monday, citing sources close to the speaker.

Carlson’s producers reportedly began reviewing the footage on Capitol Hill earlier in February, and his shows will start airing excerpts in coming weeks, according to Axios. Talks between Carlson’s show and McCarthy regarding the footage began in early February, the outlet reported.

“If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it. It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that,” Carlson told Axios. McCarthy Takes Dig at Pelosi, Says He’ll Be Respectful of Biden at SOTU

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., took a swipe at predecessor Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., promising he wouldn’t “tear up” a copy of President Joe Biden’s State of the Nation speech — a reference to Pelosi’s dramatic reaction to the 2020 address.

McCarthy on Monday said he’ll be “respectful” during the Tuesday night speech, explaining his reverence for the office of the president overrides his frustration with Biden, the Washington Examiner reported.

During former President Donald Trump’s 2020 State of the Union address, Pelosi tore up her copy of the remarks at the end of the speech. (Read more from “McCarthy Takes Dig at Pelosi, Says He’ll Be Respectful of Biden at SOTU” HERE)

Kevin McCarthy Pledges to Release All Security Footage from January 6 Capitol Riots; McCarthy Says He Will Look at Expunging Trump Impeachment

By Townhall. House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) told reporters Thursday that he intends to release all the security footage from the January 6 Capitol riots.

“I want to be very thoughtful about it, but yes, I’m engaged to do that,” McCarthy told reporters when asked whether he would release footage from that day.

McCarthy continued:

I think the public should see what happened on that day. I watched what Nancy Pelosi did, where she politicized it. Where for the first time in the history as a Speaker, not allowing the minority to appoint to a committee. We watched the politicization of this. I think the American public should actually see what happened instead of a report that’s written on a political basis.

McCarthy Says He Will Look at Expunging Trump Impeachment

By The Hill. Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) said on Thursday that he would consider expunging one or both of former President Trump’s impeachments.

“I would understand why members would want to bring that forward,” McCarthy said in response to a question at a press conference on Thursday, before listing off several other key priorities for House Republicans.

“But I understand why individuals want to do it, and we’d look at it,” he added. (Read more from “McCarthy Says He Will Look at Expunging Trump Impeachment” HERE)

Reps. Adam Schiff, Eric Swalwell, Ilhan Omar to Officially Be Kicked off Intelligence, Foreign Affairs Committees

Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy confirmed Monday night that Democratic California Reps. Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell will be removed from the House Intelligence Committee and the House will vote on the removal of Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee.

In February, McCarthy told the Daily Caller that if he is elected Speaker that he intends to strip Omar from the Foreign Affairs Committee and Swalwell and Schiff from the Intelligence Committee. On Monday, McCarthy confirmed to The Associated Press (AP) that he would be moving forward with that decision, saying both Swalwell and Schiff should not have seats on the committee.

McCarthy has said Swalwell’s reported relationship with a Chinese spy and Schiff’s defense of the Steele dossier are some of the reasons they should be removed from the committee. McCarthy has said Omar’s anti-Semitism is a reason she should be removed from Foreign Affairs. (Read more from “Reps. Donalds Reveals What He Got in Exchange for Backing McCarthy for Speaker

Rep. Byron Donalds, R-Fla., revealed on Sunday that he is being placed on the House Republican Steering Committee in exchange for supporting Kevin McCarthy for House Speaker.

Donalds revealed the new appointment during a Sunday appearance on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo.

His appearance followed an epic 15-ballot election for McCarthy to become House speaker. To become speaker, McCarthy had to make concessions to a small group of hardliners who refused to support him until he yielded to their demands.

“I’m frankly just happy that it’s all over with, and that we got something transformational and sound for the American people,” Donalds said.

The committee’s purpose is to assign fellow Republicans to other House committees. Donalds noted that his appointment to the Steering Committee was an important step to having “more [Republican] voices on more committees.” (Read more from “Donalds Reveals What He Got in Exchange for Backing McCarthy for Speaker” HERE)

Trump Reportedly Had a Large Influence in Securing the Gavel for McCarthy

Former President Trump may have played a crucial role in helping now-House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif) to secure the required votes needed to take over the position.

According to Breitbart, the 45th President was responsible for bringing about a compromise among House Republicans who initially opposed McCarthy to electing him.

After nearly a week of voting, McCarthy took the gavel after 15 rounds.

Several GOP members of Congress claimed that Trump was the honey that sweetened the tea, urging Republican holdouts to vote in favor of McCarthy.

“This doesn’t get done without the support and leadership of President Trump,” Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) said, applauding the former president’s help. (Read more from “Trump Reportedly Had a Large Influence in Securing the Gavel for McCarthy” HERE)

Ilhan Omar Reacts to Kevin McCarthy Pulling Her From Committees

Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) on Sunday condemned House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) plans to kick her off the House Foreign Affairs Committee as hypocritical.

Omar was asked about McCarthy’s repeated promises to yank her committee assignments during an appearance on MSNBC’s Yasmin Vossoughian Reports. The progressive lawmaker was specifically questioned about if there were any developments on the matter in the days since McCarthy had secured the speaker’s gavel.

“I have not [received any updates],” Omar said. “It’s my understanding that we obviously have to get the rules package done. Hopefully, Monday when we reconvene, that is on top of the agenda, and then the different caucuses, our caucus and their conference, will make appointments to committees and we will go from there.”

Taking aim at McCarthy specifically, Omar then remarked on McCarthy’s difficult path to the speakership before referencing her Somali background as reason to keep her on the Foreign Affairs Committee. (Read more from “Ilhan Omar Reacts to Kevin McCarthy Pulling Her From Committees” HERE)

GOP Rep. Says McCarthy ‘Smugly Rejected’ Key Proposal That Would’ve Gotten Him 218 Votes; Here are the Major Concessions McCarthy Made to Win Speakership

By Daily Caller. Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert of Colorado said Tuesday that Rep. Kevin McCarthy of California “smugly rejected” a “common sense” proposal that would have secured him the speakership on the first ballot.

“I have been working for months behind the scenes to create unity,” Boebert told “Special Report” host Bret Baier. “Just last night two colleagues and myself walked into Kevin McCarthy’s office and presented him a very common sense proposal, a deal that got him 218 votes, the gavel on the first ballot and he smugly rejected that.”

McCarthy failed to garner the 218 votes needed to become speaker in three ballots Tuesday, receiving 203 votes in the first two ballots, before Republican Rep. Byron Donalds of Florida switched his vote to Republican Rep. Jim Jordan of Ohio on the third ballot, leaving the California Republican with 202. Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries of New York secured 212 votes from Democrats in all three ballots.

“It was very common-sense things like putting forward a border security bill. Putting forward a term limits bill. Having a measure in place where any member of Congress who offers an amendment to reduce the federal debt, well, that’s made in order,” Boebert continued. (Read more from “GOP Rep. Here are the Costly Concessions McCarthy Made to Win House Speaker

By Brian Bushard. McCarthy, who won the speakership after 15 rounds of voting, agreed to vote separately on the 12 different appropriation bills—from agriculture to defense spending to transportation—rather than allow them to be bundled together into an end-of-year omnibus spending bill. . .

McCarthy also agreed to cap discretionary spending at the levels they were at the beginning of the Biden Administration for both defense and domestic spending, as part of a commitment to balance the federal budget within 10 years. . .

In response to a letter from GOP members, McCarthy also agreed to create a subcommittee on the “Weaponization of the Federal Government,” which would be tasked with probing the federal government’s information collection on private individuals as well as its ongoing criminal investigations, potentially including the Department of Justice’s probe into classified documents at former President Donald Trump’s Mar-A-Lago estate. . .

In one of his biggest concessions, McCarthy agreed to lower the number GOP conference members needed to start a process of removing the speaker, known as a “motion to vacate,” from five to one—even though he previously said he wouldn’t budge on the number, and some Republicans worry it could bog down the House with weekly power struggles.

McCarthy also agreed to keep the Congressional Leadership Fund—a McCarthy affiliated super PAC—out of open House primary races for seats considered safe, and to appoint far-right House Freedom Caucus members to seats on the House Rules Committee.

Also: He promised to give House members 72 hours to review bills before they come to the floor, to require a vote to raise the federal debt limit and to hold votes on congressional term limits and a border security plan, multiple outlets reported. (Read more HERE)

Matt Gaetz Demands Probe Into ‘Squatter’ Kevin McCarthy for ‘Occupying’ Speaker’s Office: ‘How Long Will He Remain?’

By Mediaite. Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) wrote a letter to the Capitol Architect on Tuesday complaining about Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) “occupying” the speaker’s office.

In his letter, Gaetz noted McCarthy had failed earlier in the day to win the gavel after three rounds of voting and accused him of being a “squatter.” . . .

McCarthy’s bid for speaker was largely set back by Gaetz, who is among a group of far-right Republicans who vowed to oppose him for months. He will presumably try again to reach a majority Wednesday when the House reconvenes for more voting. McCarthy Confronts Gaetz After Failing Again to Secure House Speakership

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was on the verge Friday night of becoming the next speaker of the House — but was left one vote short when old foe Rep. Matt Gaetz derailed his chances by voting “present.”

Gaetz’s antics in the 14th ballot of the marathon speakership contest led to a stunning scene on the House floor as McCarthy slowly walked up the gallery steps to confront the Florida lawmaker with an icy stare.

The two spoke animatedly for roughly a minute, with lawmakers huddled around them, before McCarthy walked away in disgust. He then turned back and approached Gaetz again, pointing his finger at him as the tensions continued to boil.

Adding to the wild scene, Mike Rogers of Alabama had to be restrained by Richard Hudson of North Carolina as he appeared to lunge angrily toward Gaetz.

By that point, McCarthy seemed to realize that the negotiations weren’t getting anywhere and he walked back toward his seat with an irritated expression on his face.

Kevin McCarthy Fails on 9th House Ballot — First Time in 200 Years

The often-raucous House chamber was left in a sleepy state of suspended animation Thursday as members failed to elect a speaker for the ninth time in a little over 48 hours and proceeded to a 10th ballot for the first time in nearly 200 years.

About half the House scrolled through their phones as they voted on the ninth ballot, apparently bored with the lack of progress over the last three days. In fact, GOP leader Kevin McCarthy lost another vote when Rep.-elect Ken Buck of Colorado excused himself for a doctor’s appointment, leaving the Californian on 200 votes — down from 201 earlier in the day.

Though McCarthy reportedly gave in to demands overnight by a contingent of hardline conservative Republicans blocking his bid for the gavel, the floor fight was no closer to a resolution. During the ninth vote, 17 of the 20 Republican members opposing McCarthy voted for Rep.-elect Byron Donalds of Florida and three voted for Rep.-elect Kevin Hern of Oklahoma.

As on the previous three ballots, Rep.-elect Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) voted “present,” lowering the magic number for any candidate by one from the 218 threshold needed on Tuesday’s first three ballots.

House Democrats remained united in their support of Brooklyn and Queens Rep.-elect Hakeem Jeffries, giving him all 212 of their votes for the seventh, eighth and ninth consecutive ballots. (Read more from “Kevin McCarthy Fails on 9th House Ballot — First Time in 200 Years” HERE)
