McConnell Undermines Trump and Senate Republicans With Support for Murkowksi

Despite the outcry from Republican voters against Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, for her vote to block Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., has no plans to oppose her if she runs for re-election in 2022.

After the allegations against Kavanaugh were scrutinized, principled Americans saw that it was wrong to presume Kavanaugh guilty without evidence and permit the Democrats to assassinate his character. Yet Murkowski, ever the ally of the Left, wavered and voted with the Democrats to stop Kavanaugh’s confirmation from going forward. She voted to reward and embolden the Democrats’ smear tactics, and if just a few more Republicans had voted with her, Kavanaugh’s confirmation would have ended in defeat.

The Alaska Republican Party is considering how it might reprimand Murkowski for her vote, but “leader” McConnell said Wednesday that there is no point in challenging Murkowski because “nobody’s going to beat her.” She nearly jeopardized Kavanaugh’s confirmation and did historic harm to the Senate confirmation process, but McConnell still considers her a Republican in “very good standing.”

McConnell disagreed with President Donald Trump’s prediction that she will “never recover” from her vote, demonstrating once again that as the leader of a supposed conservative Republican party, he is out of step with rank-and-file conservatives.

“Well, she’s certainly going to recover. … She’s about as strong as you could possibly be in Alaska,” McConnell told the Associated Press in an interview. “Nobody’s gonna beat her. I’m proud she’s in the Republican conference,” he added.

McConnell cited Murkowski’s 2010 write-in campaign victory over the Republican nominee Joe Miller, who defeated Murkowski in the primary, as evidence that it wasn’t worth bothering to defeat her. Murkowski was never punished for challenging the GOP — McConnell permitted her to keep her committee assignments. In 2016, when Murkowski was up for re-election after betraying Senate Republicans and supporting several of President Obama’s policies and judicial nominations, McConnell supported her for re-election when there were alternatives.

His “pride” in Murkowski is consistent with his support for Republicans who object to a conservative agenda over conservatives in primaries that has made the GOP Senate majority nearly impotent. Every major policy from repealing Obamacare to confirming judicial confirmations is in danger of a handful of liberal Republicans upsetting the vote.

Many Republicans are very happy with McConnell right now for getting Kavanaugh confirmed, but understand that this is exactly why the best conservatives can do under his leadership is barely having the votes to get Kavanaugh onto the court. McConnell hasn’t delivered for Trump supporters on a border wall, on health care, on spending, on immigration, on protecting the unborn. He shouldn’t be turned into a hero for one victory amid a thousand defeats, and he should be called out for undermining his own party by supporting Lisa Murkowski. Alaska’s Other RINO Senator Vows to Fight Any Censure of Lisa Murkowski

Editor’s note, courtesy of Matt Johnson: Senator Dan Sullivan’s response to Alaska Republicans censuring or disciplining RINO Senator Lisa Murkowski for going rogue again: “I’ll fight it fully.”

I know a lot of my Republican friends in Alaska don’t want to hear it, but it’s true. Dan Sullivan is only marginally conservative. His score with Conservative Review is a paltry 53%. That’s not what he promised Alaskans when he ran for this office. He promised to be a conservative fighter. He’s done nothing of the sort. He’s a conservative like Mitch McConnell is a conservative. He votes in virtual lock-step with the Establishment. The only time Dan Sullivan has really been willing to stick his neck out has been in defense of Murkowski, or in opposition to Donald Trump.

This is yet another, “I told you so” moment for Joe Miller. He told primary voters in 2014 that a vote for Dan Sullivan was a vote to prop up Lisa Murkowski. Not only did he endorse her for re-election in 2016 with an infinitely better Republican on the ballot (Mayor Dan Sullivan), he fully endorsed her against Joe Miller in the general election (It should be noted that by his own admission he didn’t support Joe Miller v. Murkowski when he was the Republican nominee, so it can’t be that he was just doing his partisan duty).

This isn’t just about Alaska. This is about the whole country. Murkowski single-handedly saved Obamacare, costing millions of Americans more money, less coverage, less access to healthcare. And while she didn’t succeed this time, she may well cost us a conservative Supreme Court Justice next time, as she has already signaled that she would likely vote against anyone she thinks would overturn Roe v. Wade. The long and short of it: Senator Dan Sullivan misled Alaskans to get power. Now that he has it, he doesn’t care what you think.

Republicans Defend RINO Senator

From Politico: [Lisa Murkowski’s] Senate GOP colleagues are defending her, pushing back against Trump’s vow to make her pay a political price for opposing Kavanaugh. [But] Republicans are growing uneasy with her standing in today’s GOP. She voted against the Obamacare repeal and the Kavanaugh confirmation, putting her on the wrong side of the president on two critical votes over the past two years.

Murkowski isn’t up for reelection until 2022, having won reelection alongside Trump in 2016. But Republicans say the prickly Alaska senator doesn’t take kindly to Trump’s assertion that Murkowski will “never recover” from her “no” vote and that it might alienate the Alaska moderate on critical votes in a narrowly divided Senate. . .

Trump’s relationship with Murkowski is already frayed. In a phone call last summer, Trump pushed her to support the GOP’s attempts to repeal Obamacare, though she ultimately voted no and people working on the bill said Trump’s lobbying was not helpful. . . But now Murkowski is the only Republican to have opposed two of Trump’s signature initiatives. . .

[Now] the Alaska GOP is weighing whether to issue a statement condemning Murkowski’s vote, withdraw its support for her or even find challengers to her reelection campaign, [but,] according to The Associated Press, Sen. Dan Sullivan (R-Alaska) said of any retribution: “I’ll fight it fully.” (Read more from “Alaska’s Other RINO Senator Vows to Fight Any Censure of Lisa Murkowski” HERE)

Alaska GOP May Reprimand — or Totally Disavow — Murkowski for Her Kavanaugh Vote

Editor’s note: The Alaska GOP’s “reprimand” effort over Murkowski’s Kavanaugh vote is 100% optics. The current chairman, as well as the folk who control the state party behind the scenes, are Murkowski-lovers as they were in 2010 and 2016. However, they are terrified of wholly losing popular support, making it far more difficult to perpetuate the type of fraud they helped orchestrate in 2010 – and likely 2016. In other words, they want cover so they can still identify in the public’s eye as “Republican” even though they remain the same old corrupt bastards (their words, not ours).

Fall-Out Continues Over Murkowski’s Kavanaugh Vote

By The Blaze. The fallout is still unfolding for Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) after she went against the rest of her party by not voting to confirm Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court over the weekend.

According to the Associated Press, the Alaska Republican Party is deciding whether to issue a reprimand for Murkowski’s vote — or whether to disavow her completely.

As the only Republican senator who did not vote in favor of Kavanaugh’s confirmation, Murkowski has placed a target on her back, already drawing potential 2022 challengers and now facing the potential of being asked not to run as a Republican candidate again.

“It’s significant enough that I’m going to convene the whole state central committee, which is about 80 grassroots volunteers around the state, and we’ll start drafting what our response should be,” Alaska GOP chairman Tuckerman Babcock said after the vote, according to KTUU-TV.

Murkowski likely knew this backlash was coming when she made her decision, and even a formal separation from the Republican Party wouldn’t necessarily spell the end of her Senate career, if the past is any indication. In 2010, Murkowski won reelection to the Senate as a write-in candidate even after losing the Republican primary. Alaska GOP to Weigh Potential Action Against Murkowski

By AP. Alaska Republican party leaders plan to consider whether to reprimand U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski for opposing Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation.

The party has asked Murkowski to provide any information she might want its state central committee to consider.

Party Chairman Tuckerman Babcock says the committee could decide to issue a statement. Or he says it could withdraw support of Murkowski, encourage party officials to look for a replacement and ask that she not seek re-election as a Republican. Did Lisa Murkowski Cheat on Her Fifth Attempt to Pass the Alaska Bar Exam?

In October 2010, McClatchy News Service reported that Senator Lisa Murkowski failed the Alaska Bar Exam four times, and only passed on her fifth try after receiving help from PMBR, a company that offers courses on how to pass the bar.

The story went on to report how Lisa Murkowski subsequently went to work for PMBR, helping other students struggling with the bar exam.

What the press failed to report is that the very company Lisa Murkowski received assistance from, and later worked for, was slapped with an $11.9 million judgement against them for “copyright infringement” and “unfair business practices.” In other words, they cheated.

The judge found that questions on the Multistate Bar Examination were illegally obtained and used by PMBR in direct violation of copyright law. This illegally obtained information was then used to assist clients to pass the exam. The National Conference of Bar Examiners filed the suit against PMBR creator and CEO Robert Feinberg and Dona Zimmerman for a 2003 incident in Anchorage, Alaska, after Feinberg and employee Dorothy Benson were caught carrying notes on the Alaska Bar Exam out of the testing room. This initiated a broader investigation by the NCBE, resulting in legal action.

As the founder and CEO of PMBR, Robert Feinberg’s direct involvement in this scam raises disturbing questions relating to Lisa Murkowski’s involvement with her former boss, and whether she ever legitimately passed the Alaska Bar.

After failing the bar exam on four previous occasions, did Lisa Murkowski cheat on the fifth try? And more disturbing, did she then spend the next several years assisting others to cheat?

In some cases, PMBR reported success rates as high as 90% compared with the average success rate of 53%. Clearly, those using this fraudulent company were advantaged in an unfair way.

Alaskans deserve to know whether their United States Senator writing laws in Washington has the basic competency required to practice law in her home state, and whether she unethically used and knowingly assisted in a fraudulent pay-to-play scheme that degraded her profession. It’s time for Lisa Murkowski to come clean.

Complacent Conservatives Should Learn the Murkowski Lesson

If we are so busy “owning the libs” that we ignore the libs festering within our own ranks to the point where “our party” agrees with 90 percent of what the libs want, isn’t it time we focused on cleaning our own house?

The biggest news of the day outside the Kavanaugh cloture vote in the Senate is that one Republican, Lisa Murkowski from the solid red state of Alaska, voted against him. Suddenly, conservative commentators, writers, fund-raisers, and noisemakers are appalled by her behavior and reminiscing about the 2010 primary, when Joe Miller successfully wrestled the GOP nomination away from Murkowski, only to lose to her in a write-in bid for the general election. Some have focused on GOP establishment figures helping Murkowski behind the scenes to win in the general election. But what everyone seems to miss is that there was another challenge in 2016, after six more years of betrayals from Murkowski, including voting for almost all of Obama’s judicial nominees. The fact that so many of these “professional” activists don’t even recall that election is itself problematic.

A healthy conservative movement would have ensured that McConnell and party leaders denied Murkowski support for the GOP nomination in 2016 after she left the party in 2010, was pro-abortion, and failed to exhibit a modicum of support for anything in the party’s platform. Yet our side, always lacking the ability to walk and chew gum at the same time, was so fixated on Trump and the liberal reaction to Trump – and the reaction to the reaction – that it missed the trend of nominating more liberals than ever to the House and Senate. We all are painfully aware of how we paid for complacency in 2016. That complacency continued into this year, when all we cared about was the Democrats and the media and we allowed many seats to fall into the hands of RINOs. This is why almost all the victories we’ve had were that things Trump was able to do without Congress.

Joe Miller managed to secure the Libertarian Party nomination to challenge Murkowski in a four-person race in the general election of 2016. As I noted in my endorsement of Miller, he had a terrific shot at winning, given the dynamics. Indeed, Murkowski only got 44 percent of the vote. Miller had a strong showing at 30 percent, but had not a penny to his name because no conservative organization, much less the party establishment, focused on him.

Don’t give me the excuse of party labels. Everyone knew that Miller was really a conservative Republican using the other party for ballot access and that he would be a solid vote for all Trump’s nominees. Everyone knew where Murkowski was on judicial nominees, and indeed, Miller warned about this very outcome on my podcast during the 2016 election.

But we were all complacent, as we have been in almost every single primary the past two cycles. We allow one RINO after another in the reddest of states and districts to continue winning, and many of them even get Trump’s support.

Primaries matter. Nominating Republicans who will fight on the budget, immigration, and health care matters.

Look around the map and name me a handful of House and Senate candidates you are inspired by. No, we don’t need a Dave Brat or Jim Jordan from every state, although that would be nice. Is it too much to ask that we strive for a Marsha Blackburn from every red state? At least she is promoting our messaging on immigration and other issues. Many of the other candidates that we so badly hope will win have Liberty Scores in the 30s, support amnesty, and are running on the core elements of Obamacare.

Where is our strategy for the day after November 7 to work state by state and district by district for 2020 to select the best Republicans and to pressure Trump to lend his support to the right candidates? Where is our strategy to ensure that we don’t continue codifying Democrat priorities on almost every domestic policy issue?

There is still one outstanding race left this year. The primary for the open seat left by Thad Cochran in Mississippi is being held on general election day. Mitch McConnell ensured that the governor appointed a know-nothing big-government Republican who was a Democrat her entire life. Will Cindy Hyde-Smith be as bad as Murkowski and sink GOP judicial nominees? No. But is this the best we can do from a state this red with a guy like Chris McDaniel running against her? He is just five points behind, yet because conservatives have been asleep, Trump was given a free pass to endorse the Swamp against a man who arguably catalyzed the Trump movement and won the Republican vote against Thad Cochran in 2014.

So, what are we going to do after November? Just focus on the presidential election? We will never change the outcome of most domestic policy with the same congressional leaders and rank-and-file, especially when Trump signals support for Kevin McCarthy as GOP leader. The outcome will not be any better than it was this term. We need a strategy to elect better Republicans early on and pressure a ready and willing President Trump to get on the right side of this. He can’t drain the Swamp by refilling it.

Without Trump’s support, it is nearly impossible to win a primary against the party apparatus. Conservative candidates are all torn to shreds by endless smears, some of which are almost as bad as the ones against Kavanaugh. Except, unlike Kavanaugh, who is revered by the establishment, for these candidates, most D.C. conservative media figures join the pile-on or completely ignore the attacks.

We have a blueprint to electing more conservatives by ensuring grassroots candidates that if they toss their hats in the ring, we will help secure a Trump endorsement, which is worth more than $1 million in donations. That in itself will help attract better grassroots candidates if they know they will have his backing, which will protect them from the inevitable smear machine.

Ultimately, there is a third option between voting Republican or Democrat in November. It’s engaging in all the primaries before November and also staying engaged and using our platforms in this industry to inform our core base of the key legislative fights and make the members feel the pressure and the pain.

It’s lazy and intellectually dishonest to ignore almost every meaningful policy fight and primary opportunity within a two-year interval, only to focus on voting Republican at all costs on the first Tuesday in every November. I could respect the “we can’t let Democrats win” crowd a lot more if they actually joined us and methodically ensured long before November that we are not indeed nominating Democrats under our own banner.

It’s time to learn from our mistakes and get to work. (For more from the author of “Complacent Conservatives Should Learn the Murkowski Lesson” please click HERE)

Murkowski, Key Vote in Kavanaugh Confirmation, Reveals How She Feels About Allegations

By Fox News. Just days before Republicans on the Senate Judiciary Committee plan to hold a critical vote on whether to recommend Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the full Senate, a key swing vote Republican senator, Lisa Murkowski, seemed to suggest that her support for the nominee is wavering.

“We are now in a place where it’s not about whether or not Judge Kavanaugh is qualified,” Murkowski said in an interview on Monday night. “It is about whether or not a woman who has been a victim at some point in her life is to be believed.”

Asked Tuesday about whether an FBI inquiry into the decades-old allegations against Kavanaugh should occur — a repeated demand by Democratic lawmakers — Murkowski replied, “It would sure clear up all the questions, wouldn’t it?”

Murkowski’s comments put her at odds with her Republican colleagues in the Senate, including Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, who have said the Senate, not the FBI, has the constitutional duty to investigate the Kavanaugh claims.

The FBI would need explicit White House instruction to conduct a probe into the allegations against Kavanaugh, Fox News has learned, because they fall well outside any applicable statute of limitations for a federal crime. Trump Accuses Democrats of ‘Con Game,’ Republicans Set Friday Committee Vote on Kavanaugh

By ABC News. The Republican-controlled Senate Judiciary Committee Tuesday announced a vote on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh for as early as 9:30 a.m. Friday, just hours after he and one of his accusers, Christine Blasey Ford, are scheduled to tell senators their dramatically different stories about her allegation he sexually assaulted her when they were both in high school.

In the face of strong opposition to Kavanaugh, some Senate Republicans have indicated they are eager to vote on his nomination even before they hear from Ford.

“Immediately following the conclusion of Thursday’s hearing, the Senate Judiciary Committee should vote up or down on Judge Kavanaugh’s nomination,” Sen. Richard Burr, a North Carolina Republican, said in a statement Tuesday.

The top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, immediately called the Republican move “outrageous.” (Read more from “Trump Accuses Democrats of ‘Con Game,’ Republicans Set Friday Committee Vote on Kavanaugh” HERE)

FEC Decision Clears Joe Miller’s 2016 Campaign of All Complaints; Shows Blatant Lies Used for Political Effect, Extreme Alaska Media Bias

In a decisive rebuke to Alaska Republican Party Chairman Tuckerman Babcock and Senator Lisa Murkowski, the Federal Election Commission has dismissed the party’s 2016 complaints against Joe Miller. Clearly, the allegations were trumped-up with intent to further a smear campaign inaugurated against Miller in 2010 and damage his electoral prospects.

There were several alleged violations in the ARP complaint, most dealing with Joe Miller’s website owned by Restoring Liberty LLC of which Miller is the sole proprietor.

Alaska Republican Party Chairman Tuckerman Babcock falsely claimed in a sworn affidavit that Joe Miller, his campaign committee, his corporate entity, and/or corporate donors to his corporate entity:

· Made illegal corporate contributions to the Miller campaign
· Illegally accepted in-kind contributions from corporate sponsors
· Illegally accepted other unlawful in-kind contributions
· Accepted campaign resources from corporations without paying fair value
· Transferred use of corporate social media accounts without paying fair value
· Advertised for donations on his corporate website without paying fair value
· Made numerous solicitations for campaign contributions without proper disclaimers
· Utilized campaign material without proper disclaimers
· Solicited donations via radio communications without proper disclaimers
· Failed to properly disclose campaign receipts and expenditures
· Fabricated certain in-kind donations

None of which the Federal Election Commission found to be true.

Given the nature of this corporate entity, a candidate’s ability to legally self-fund without limit, the lack of any substantiated violations of required reporting, and the press exemption in the law, the FEC finding determined: “ . . . the circumstances in this case support dismissal . . . [and] an enforcement action would not be an efficient use of the Commission’s resources.”

Regarding the disclosure allegations, the finding was that “the information in the record suggests that the Committee sent a single email with an inadequate disclaimer, but the mistake was quickly identified and corrected. In addition, the email identified the Committee as the sender and included the Committee’s mailing address, thus recipients had some information as to who was responsible for it. There is no information indicating the Committee’s other communications violated the Commission’s disclaimer requirements.”

FEC findings also addressed the allegation that Citizens for Joe Miller failed to report, or misreported contributions.

“The reporting allegations appear to be unsupported. The Committee reported the in-kind contributions for the use of Miller’s vehicle and campaign headquarters, and although the Complaint alleges that some of those reported amounts were too high, the information does not indicate that those amounts were unreasonable. Additionally, there is no information showing that the Committee inflated the value of any in-kind contribution in order to reimburse Miller for more than its value.”

It is clear from the FEC ruling that the Commission deemed them, at best, irrelevant and without merit.

Nevertheless, in making their false charges, Tuckerman Babcock and Lisa Murkowski (on whose behalf these dirty tricks were executed) have demonstrated again a willingness to play fast and loose with the truth, as well as a blatant disregard for good faith and fair dealing. It appears their complaint was filed simply as a political weapon without regard for its veracity.

Is this the way Alaska Republicans want to be represented by their leadership?

Miller spokesman Randy DeSoto noted that “much like the liar fliers sent out with apparent laundered money from the Murkowski campaign, these charges were obviously an attempt to gain unfair advantage in a federal election and deflect attention from ARP’s dirty dealing. This is absolute vindication for Joe Miller.”

Desoto is right. This federal decision once again underscores the mendacity of the Republican Establishment, and their willingness to lie, cheat and steal, if necessary, in order to prevail at the ballot box.

Sadly, the mainstream media swallowed their lies as fact, gave them the headlines they were looking for, and confirmed that they are indeed #FakeNews.

“It was clearly a calculated effort to further a false narrative hatched by Lisa Murkowski in 2010,” said Joe Miller. “The dishonesty of this cabal is notorious, and the mainstream media gladly rewards their treachery. No longer the guardian of free and fair elections, the fake news has become an agenda-driven corporatist enterprise that acts out much like a SuperPAC would, and always in the favor of entrenched power. Speaking truth to power is a thing of the past with respect to the press, unless there is convergence with the progressive agenda.”

A quick google search for “Federal Election Commission complaint, Alaska Republican Party” reveals the following headlines: “Alaska Republican Party Files Elections Complaint Against Joe Miller” (KTUU); “FEC Accepts Alaska GOP Complaint Against Joe Miller” (MustReadAlaska) [100% misleading]; “Alaska GOP Says Joe Miller Broke Campaign Finance Laws” (Alaska Dispatch News, aka www.adn.com); “Alaska GOP Accuses Joe Miller of Campaign Finance Violations” (Alaska Public Radio, aka www.alaskapublic.org); “Alaska Republican Party Claims Joe Miller Violated Election Laws” (KTVA); “Alaska GOP Chair Files Election Complaint Against Miller” (Fairbanks Daily News-Miner); “Alaska GOP Files Complaint Against Libertarian Joe Miller” (Roll Call).

Not a single headline about a still-pending FEC complaint filed on the same day against Lisa Murkowski and her shill front group Alaska Republican Party. And remember, this search didn’t even include Joe Miller’s name.

Any impartial observer would have to admit this is anything but fair coverage, and now it has also been revealed to be false and misleading.

If your politicians lie to you with impunity (and most do these days), it is only because their enablers in the mainstream (read corporate) press empower them to do so. Stop believing the fake news. The future of our Republic depends on it.

Analysis: The ‘Deep State’ Tactics Used Against Trump Campaign Were First Employed in GOP Senate Race

Recent reports that the FBI employed a “human source” to infiltrate the Trump campaign and special counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing Russia investigation initiated by leaked documents stirred memories of the same tactics being used to help sway the outcome of a U.S. Senate race in 2010 against the Republican candidate.

The Wall Street Journal reported late last week that House Intelligence Committee members “sniffed out a name,” potentially implicating the FBI under President Barack Obama, of planting an informant close to then-Republican candidate Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

“This would amount to spying, and it is hugely disconcerting,” wrote The Journal’s Kimberly Strassel. “It would also be a major escalation from the electronic surveillance we already knew about, which was bad enough.”

The Washington Post added House Intelligence Committee Chair Devin Nunes has subpoenaed the Department of Justice for more information, but the agency has resisted, claiming the individual in question is a “sensitive, longtime intelligence source” for the FBI and the CIA. The informant has also helped in Mueller’s ongoing investigation.

The revelation of an FBI informant being placed close to a Republican political candidate brought to mind an experience I had working on the media team for U.S. Senate candidate Joe Miller in 2010 in Alaska.

Miller shocked political watchers when he defeated incumbent Sen. Lisa Murkowski in the Alaska Republican primary. He had been down over 20 points just over a month before pulling off the upset win.

Murkowski — who had the most liberal voting record of any Republican up for re-election that year — responded by recanting on a pledge both candidates had made prior to the primary election day in late August to honor the results. Instead, the senator launched a write-in campaign as an independent in the middle of September in a bid to hold on to the seat that, between her and her father, had been in the family since 1981.

Early polling in the contest once again gave Miller a slight edge, but the race deadlocked by mid-October thanks to two events: the handcuffing of a reporter at a Joe Miller campaign event by an FBI informant and the leaking of the candidate’s confidential employee file to the media.

FBI informant Bill Fulton first showed up on primary election night in Anchorage, unsolicited, volunteering his security services to the candidate that evening following his victory.

Miller did not use security during the race before or after, with one exception of a town hall event at an Anchorage middle school in mid-October, where according to the terms of the contract, security was required. A member of the campaign staff contacted Fulton.

I was at the town hall where the informant took it upon himself after the event to handcuff Alaska Dispatch editor Tony Hopfinger.

Shortly before the incident, the journalist had broken into a circle of supporters Miller was speaking to and put a handheld camera in his face.

Miller indicated he was not giving an interview and left the room. Hopfinger followed him out into the hallway and ended up pushing an attendee into a set of lockers, apparently trying to catch up with the candidate. Miller left the building and not long thereafter Hopfinger got into a scuffle with the security team headed by Fulton, who ordered the reporter to be detained.I came out into the hallway in time to find Hopfinger in handcuffs, which I questioned Fulton about, telling him the optics looked horrible, but he did not stand down.

Fulton insisted Hopfinger needed to remain handcuffed until the police arrived and kept him in plain view as numerous reporters circled about, shooting footage of their detained colleague.

In a 2013 Huffington Post article titled “How Bill Fulton Infiltrated Alaska’s Right Wing As An FBI Informant,” the informant revealed that he voted for President Barack Obama and lauded his own actions that day.

“It completely solidified our position within the right wing,” Fulton said of the handcuffing incident. “Because there’s nothing the right wing likes more than you roughing up the left-wing media and such.”

“The left-wing completely attacked me, including Huffington Post, you b—–ds,” Fulton said. “I was working for you, you sons of b—–s, and nobody knew it.”

It cannot be overestimated the amount of negative media coverage the Miller campaign received as a result of the incident, with claims the candidate opposed freedom of the press. It did not matter that neither the campaign nor the candidate had directed the handcuffing.

In 2013, the Los Angeles Times also reported on the role Fulton played in the 2010 race questioning, “Why was FBI informant William Fulton involved in political campaigns?”

Miller noted in the piece that his race was the second in as many cycles in Alaska in which the FBI had played a part in the contest’s outcome, referring to a criminal investigation that almost certainly cost the late Sen. Ted Stevens his 2008 re-election bid. Stevens’ conviction was overturned just months after he lost the race to Democrat Mark Begich.

In a 2013 Facebook post, Hopfinger lamented the part the FBI had played in the outcome of the Miller-Murkowski race.

“Do we want the FBI dealing with cowboys like Bill Fulton who can change the outcome of political elections by, say, cuffing journalists?” he wrote.

“No wonder Farmer Joe and his friends worry about Big Brother,” he added derisively. “I don’t like the idea, either, of the FBI having a paid informant working inside a political campaign when the candidate himself is not the primary target of an investigation.

“Why would anybody run for office under those circumstances? Joe Miller should be more upset with the FBI/Justice Department than with Fulton.”

Miller is angered the FBI is engaging in political campaigns.

The former GOP nominee told The Western Journal, “The FBI’s involvement in elections is repugnant and undercuts a fundamental tenet of our Republic: that the People are an effective check on government.”

“Now, we have proof that the feds have been manipulating domestic elections,” he added. “Such action is not only treasonous, it could lead to dangerous political instability as more and more citizens realize their government is no longer controlled by the People.”

The second major incident that without a doubt influenced the general election outcome in Miller’s race was the leaking of his confidential personnel file. It was a move reminiscent of former FBI Director James Comey leaking his memos to The New York Times, with the intention of bringing about a special counsel.

Questions about Miller’s employment as an attorney with the city of Fairbanks began with a blog post by Murkowski supporter and former fellow state representative Andrew Halcro titled, “We Know Palin Quit … But why was Miller Fired? Say it ain’t so Joe.”

The story was fake news. Miller was not fired, but resigned of his own accord, and the candidate released his letter of resignation and other supporting documents during the primary, which countered the narrative.

However, a new version of the story came back in the fall, saying he had nearly been fired for voting in an online political poll on his and three co-workers’ computers and initially not telling the truth about it.

That narrative was also shown to be false, but Murkowski and the groups supporting her made that a focus of the multi-million-dollar negative ad campaign against Miller. Murkowski herself proclaimed during a debate that Miller — a West Point graduate and decorated combat veteran — was “not fit” to serve in the U.S. Senate.

It should be noted at this point, a Senate ethics complaint was filed against Murkowski for a sweetheart land deal prior to her 2010 re-election bid. She came under such public censure that she sold the property.

The leaked information about Miller led to unprecedented litigation, with multiple media outlets suing to gain access to his employee file. They ultimately prevailed.

When Miller went on national television to explain what happened, the negative narrative was countered, and he began to rise again in the polls.

However, the former mayor of Fairbanks Jim Whitaker (a Republican who endorsed Obama) played the part of Comey, claiming through the closing days of the race that Miller engaged in wrongdoing. He participated in both television and other media interviews alleging the Republican candidate had even been involved in criminal conduct while employed at the borough.

Never mind that Miller was employed for a year-and-a-half following his alleged illicit conduct in question, which had been fully investigated and resulted in a temporary letter of reprimand. The letter should no longer have even been in his file when he ran for office.

Miller sued Whitaker and the borough after the election and won a judgment in his favor.

Miller’s supervisor Rene Broker admitted, under oath, during the litigation that he had engaged in no criminal conduct while in the employ of the borough.

Miller remains a lawyer in good standing in the Alaska bar to this day, which would not be the case if he had committed any significant ethical wrongdoing.

But as far as the outcome of the 2010 race, the damage had been done. The incumbent Murkowski beat Miller 39 to 35 percent, with the Democrat candidate taking the rest.

The “deep state,” if you will, prevailed. Whether the same tactics can be used to ultimately bring down Trump is playing out before our eyes. (For more from the author of “Analysis: The ‘Deep State’ Tactics Used Against Trump Campaign Were First Employed in GOP Senate Race” please click HERE)

Lisa Murkowski Extorts Senate’s Obamacare Repeal Over Medicaid Exception for Alaska Natives

By MJ Lee, Lauren Fox, Phil Mattingly and Tami Luhby. As the Republican Party’s last-ditch effort to repeal Obamacare hangs by a thread, a revised version of the Graham-Cassidy bill was circulated to Senate Republicans on Sunday with the aim of winning over key votes. . .
