Marine Veteran Paralyzed After Being Shot By Illegal Alien Freed 4 Times

A decorated Marine veteran is fighting for his life, paralyzed from the waist down, after being shot by an illegal immigrant who had been arrested and released by authorities not once, but four separate times. The shocking incident underscores the growing outrage over the previous administration’s border failures and soft-on-crime policies that allow dangerous individuals to slip through the cracks of a broken immigration system repeatedly. Jimmy Friesenhahn, a Marine Corps veteran from Texas, is in critical condition after being shot by an illegal immigrant while working as a security guard. The 44-year-old father is now paralyzed and unable to speak. He has undergone six surgeries and remains in a fight for his life as his condition continues to deteriorate. Friesenhahn was shot three times—twice in the chest, where his bulletproof vest absorbed the impact, and once in the neck. The neck wound caused a complete spinal cord injury, as well as severe damage to his esophagus and vocal cords.

He was a security guard at the El Patio Sports Bar when he spotted Wilmer Vladmir Ortega Ruiz carrying a handgun in his pocket. Ortego Ruiz refused to give up the gun when Friesenhahn tried to confiscate it, resulting in an altercation between the two.

Ortega Ruiz was first arrested in San Antonio for driving while intoxicated in October 2020 but was released on a personal recognizance bond and later skipped his court date. Prosecutors in Bexar County reduced the charge to obstructing a passageway, to which he pleaded guilty. However, he violated his probation and was arrested again in August 2023. After posting a $1,500 bond, he was released again and again failed to appear in court. He was arrested a third time in September 2023, posted the same bond amount, and again skipped his court date. By November 2024, Ortega Ruiz was arrested for a fourth time and, within three weeks, was released after being sentenced to time served.

Decorated Marine Amputee Charged with Raping Young Teen

A Pennsylvania Marine veteran, who transformed the loss of his legs in Afghanistan into an asset as a motivational speaker, is facing charges of statutory rape of a 13-year-old girl.

According to court paperwork cited by the CBS affiliate in Pittsburgh, Brandon Rumbaugh, 34, became the subject of an Allegheny County police investigation earlier this month after it received a ChildLine report about the girl, who claimed the veteran sexually assaulted her several times.

In Pennsylvania, it is a first-degree felony and statutory sexual assault if a person has sex with someone under the age of 16 and is 11 years older than the victim.

Rumbaugh was charged and jailed without bond Friday in Uniontown, a city of 10,000 where, until this week, he was reportedly seen as a local “war hero.” The town is located 60 miles south of Pittsburgh.

ChildLine is a state-mandated program that receives and refers reports of suspected child abuse and neglect. It’s a 24/7 hotline run by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services. (Read more from “Decorated Marine Amputee Charged with Raping Young Teen” HERE)

Marine Charged With Sexual Assault Weeks After Missing 14-Year-Old Discovered in His Barracks

A Marine based in California was charged with sexually assaulting a 14-year-old girl who had been missing for more than two weeks when she was found in his barracks.

Military prosecutors slapped the Marine with sexual assault of a minor charges Friday, months after military police discovered the teenager holing up at Camp Pendleton on June 28, Capt. Charles Palmer of the 1st Marine Logistics Group said in a statement.

He was also charged with violating liberty restriction from an earlier, unrelated case.

Authorities will decide whether he will face a court-martial after a preliminary hearing scheduled for Aug. 17.

The military declined to disclose any information on the Marines’ identity other than his gender. (Read more from “Marine Charged With Sexual Assault Weeks After Missing 14-Year-Old Discovered in His Barracks” HERE)

Fundraiser for Ex-Marine Nears $2M as Attorneys Say Subway Chokehold Case ‘Struck a Chord’ With Public

A fundraiser for Daniel Penny neared the $2 million mark Sunday, with his attorneys saying donations have kept rolling in because the subway chokehold case has “struck a chord” in the psyche of people across the country.

The “Legal Defense Fund” for Penny — the 24-year-old former Marine charged with manslaughter in the death of homeless man Jordan Neely — had eclipsed $1.8 million in donations by Sunday evening.

“The outpouring of support for Danny is always measured by the amount raised, but what is even more telling is that tens of thousands of people from all over the world have taken the time to donate,” Penny’s attorney, Steven M. Raiser, wrote in an email to The Post.

“This level of support demonstrates that the situation forced upon him in that subway car earlier this month, and his subsequent arrest, has struck a chord in the psyche of New Yorkers and has been echoed nationwide,” Raiser wrote.

“The message being sent by this massive showing of support is that any attempt to undermine the right and duty to protect one another against an imminent threat will be challenged.” (Read more from “Fundraiser for Ex-Marine Nears $2M as Attorneys Say Subway Chokehold Case ‘Struck a Chord’ With Public” HERE)

Marine Who Grappled With Homeless Man on NYC Subway Identified: Reports

The Marine who grappled with a homeless man on the New York City Subway in early May has been identified as a sergeant named Daniel Penny, according to multiple reports.

Penny, 24, is the Marine who placed 30-year-old Jordan Neely in a chokehold Tuesday after Neely boarded a Subway train and allegedly began acting aggressively toward his fellow passengers, Insider reported Friday, citing a law enforcement official. Penny’s reported attempt to subdue the allegedly unhinged homeless man proved fatal and Neely’s death was later ruled a homicide by the NYC medical examiner.

Penny joined the Marines in 2017 as an infantryman and rose to the rank of sergeant, Insider reported. His time in the Marines lasted until 2021 — though police officials say he is still on active duty service and in good standing with the U.S. Marine Corps, according to the New York Post. Reportedly a surfing enthusiast, Penny said on his Harri profile that he was passionate about “helping, communicating, and connecting to different people from all over the world,” Insider added.

Family of Marine Killed During Afghanistan Withdrawal Stunned to Learn Snipers Could Have Taken Out Suicide Bomber

A Marine sniper’s testimony that he had an opportunity to take out the Abbey Gate suicide bomber during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan came as a surprise to family and advocates of one of the service members killed in the attack, they told the Daily Caller News Foundation.

U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) conducted an investigation into the events leading up to the suicide bombing on August 26, 2021 that killed 13 U.S. military personnel aiding the evacuation of Afghan allies after the Taliban captured Kabul. Family of the deceased received in-person briefings a short while before CENTCOM made public the unclassified version of the final report, but one family member and two advocates said the briefers never provided any indication that the Marine snipers had a missed chance to engage the bomber.

“They said nobody knew where he was at that time or what he looked like at that time,” Shana Chappell, the mother of 20-year-old Lance Cpl. Kareem Nikoui, who died in the blast, told the DCNF.

“What [the sniper] had said I had already known about, because other Marines had talked about it before the investigation had even happened,” she added. “There was just a lot of stuff that didn’t add up that I had been told by the Marines that were there, and none of it was mentioned in the report that was given to us.”

The investigation concluded a lone suicide bomber managed to bypass Taliban checkpoints at Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, detonating an explosive vest that also contained ball bearings at 5:36 p.m, according to the report. ISIS later claimed responsibility for the attack, which killed up to 170 Afghan civilians and 13 U.S. servicemembers, as well as wounding dozens more. A Marine Who Got a Highly Sensitive Intelligence Job Was Charged After Admitting to Attending Capitol Protest During Security Clearance

Prosecutors arrested an active-duty Marine on Jan. 6 charges last month after he confessed to participating in the deadly siege during a high-level security clearance interview in June 2022, according to court documents.

Sgt. Joshua Abate is facing four counts related to the insurrection, including entering or remaining in a restricted building, disorderly and disruptive conduct, and parading, demonstrating, or picketing in a Capitol building.

The special communication signals analyst was transferred to a sensitive intelligence assignment at the National Security Agency even after his participation in the attack, The Intercept reported this week.

Abate was assigned to the Marine Cryptologic Support Battalion, which partners with and is headquartered at the National Security Agency in Fort Meade, Maryland, according to military records first obtained by Military.com. The headquarters is one of the most sensitive US government facilities in the country.

Abate ultimately confessed to participating in the riot in June 2022 while he was undergoing a security clearance process, according to prosecutors. Stuart Scheller: Military Leadership Promotion Is Based on Pleasing Your Boss, Not Performance

Marine veteran Stuart Scheller, the lieutenant colonel who was fired and jailed after calling for accountability from military leaders for the Afghanistan withdrawal, said today’s military leaders are promoted based on pleasing their bosses, not performance.

In an exclusive interview with Breitbart News, Scheller discussed his new book Crisis of Command: How We Lost Trust and Confidence in America’s Generals and Politicians and what he learned about the military promotion system during his 17 years in the Marine Corps.

He said in the corporate world, where the bottom line is profit, failing leaders are replaced. But in the government, they have to be grown from inside the system and are promoted based on how much they please their bosses and not based on performance.

“What happens in all these government institutions is that you realize you have to impress your boss and if that boss has a focus that’s anything other than the foundational principles of the institution, then you learn through your career that you just have to please your boss. And what it does over time is it conditions people to not focus on the core values of the institution,” he said. Police: U.S. Flags Honoring Troops Killed in Kabul Airport Blast Shredded

Someone vandalized a display of 13 U.S. flags and a U.S. Marine Corps flag honoring troops slain in the Aug. 26 bomb blast in Afghanistan, California police say.

Several of the flags were found shredded and torn Monday hanging from an overpass in Riverside near Los Angeles, police reported on Facebook.

The flags had been hung after an explosion at the Kabul airport killed 13 U.S. troops during the evacuation from Afghanistan. More than 60 Afghans also died in the blast by an Islamic State group in Afghanistan.

“At this point, we don’t have any suspect description but it’s obvious the flags were intentionally damaged,” police wrote. They ask that anyone with information call 951-353-7955.

Officers removed the damaged flags and turned them over to a local Boy Scout troop for proper disposal, police said. (Read more from “Police: U.S. Flags Honoring Troops Killed in Kabul Airport Blast Shredded” HERE)

Marine Who Spoke Out About Afghanistan Withdrawal Says He Expects To Be Jailed

By Washington Examiner. A Marine who claimed he was “relieved from duty” after going viral for criticizing military leadership over the withdrawal from Afghanistan now speculates he might be court-martialed and “will probably do some jail time.”

Stuart Scheller , who claims now to be a former lieutenant colonel , has been posting regular updates about his dissenting stance that led to his alleged removal from the military, saying in a Wednesday update to a video he uploaded to social media on Aug. 27, “The Marine Corps will assign an investigating officer. Most likely a Colonel.”

Scheller’s initial video posted last week came just hours after 11 Marines, one Navy sailor, and one Army soldier were killed during a terrorist attack in Kabul near the airport. The United States scrambled to evacuate as many eligible Afghans and U.S. citizens from the country before the Aug. 31 deadline for military forces to exit the country. Scheller said in the video that he knew at least one person who was killed in the Kabul attack.

“Once the investigating officer finalizes his recommendation, the Marine Corps will decide if they should pursue court-martial,” Scheller claimed on Wednesday, adding that if it does go to court-martial, “I will be found guilty and will probably do some jail time. This will provide me a valuable opportunity to read, write, and contemplate.”

The Marines confirmed Scheller’s “situation is currently under investigation” but declined to provide further details to the Washington Examiner on Wednesday, according to Capt. Sam Stephenson, a spokesman for the Training and Education Command. “The Marine Corps is not providing any additional information regarding Lt. Col. Stuart Scheller. His situation is currently under investigation and being handled appropriately by his chain of command, and therefore, we cannot comment further.” (Read more from “Marine Who Spoke Out About Afghanistan Withdrawal Says He Expects To Be Jailed” HERE)

Marine Commandant Wants ‘Honest, Open Critique’ of Afghanistan Withdrawal

By Konstantin Toropin. Gen. David Berger, commandant of the Marine Corps, thinks the U.S. military should thoroughly examine the decisions it made in the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“While it’s relatively fresh in our minds, we need the honest, open critique, or a commission … that cracks open: What were the options that were available, who made what decisions at what time?” he said Wednesday speaking at an event sponsored by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, a think tank based in Washington, D.C., and the U.S. Naval Institute.

Berger was responding to a question about whether he thought his recent memo to reassure veterans that the war in Afghanistan was worth their sacrifices still applies now that the conflict is over.

“The events of the past 10 days have not at all altered my view of ‘was it worth it,'” he replied.

The top Marine officer said that, in the last two days, he and others have gone back “through the Holloway Commission, the Long Commission” in an effort to “try to figure out a framework or how can we study, to your point, what went right, what went wrong, what can we learn going forward.” (Read more from “Marine Commandant Wants ‘Honest, Open Critique’ of Afghanistan Withdrawal” HERE)
