A former Maine National Guardsman was hit with faulty accusations of being a “domestic extremist” and pushed out of his job for not taking the COVID-19 vaccine, with the state organization defying a federal correction order to reinstate him.
Maj. Michael Gary was likely the first U.S. service member to preemptively apply for a religious accommodation for the COVID-19 vaccine in December 2020, over a year before Reserve and National Guard members were expected to be vaccinated.
“Nobody has corrected me on this. I believe I’m the first guy in the nation to submit a religious exemption in the COVID era,” he told Breitbart News on Monday. “Mine was December 1 of 2020, before the shot came out.”
According to Gary, his chain of command in the Maine Army National Guard (MEARNG) was “all about” protecting his First Amendment rights when he first applied for an exemption.
“They supported me 100 percent… And then, of course, the shot came out, and over time, my chain of command soured on me.” (Read more from “National Guardsman Labeled ‘Domestic Extremist,’ Forced Out for COVID Vaccine Refusal” HERE)

By Breitbart. There were no beds in the home of the the Washington, DC, National Guard shooting suspect, who often played video games such as Call of Duty, according to recent reports.
FBI Director Kash Patel confirmed on Thursday that search warrants have been executed, including for the suspect’s last known residence in the state of Washington.
“The search warrant was executed on that house last night or early this morning, and it is an ongoing process,” Patel said. “All the individuals found in the house have been interviewed, and some interviews remain ongoing. We will not stop until we interview anyone and everyone associated with the subject, the house, and every piece of his life.”
Jeanine Pirro, United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, also revealed that the suspect, Rahmanullah Lakanwal — an Afghan who entered the country via former President Joe Biden’s Operation Allies Welcome program — lived there with is wife and what they believe to be his five children, the oldest of whom is said to be 14. He drove across the country to carry out his attack, Pirro continued, ultimately killing one of the two guardsmen, identified as Sarah Beckstrom. The other guardsman injured in the attack, Andrew Wolfe, is still fighting for his life.
Neighbors have since weighed in following the raid on Lakanwal’s Washington home — a $2,000 per month apartment, which they say had no beds. One neighbor said the family was particularly quiet. By New York Post. . .They “never made a peep,” one neighbor said, adding that Lakanwal didn’t speak much English and his oldest child is 14.
“Bellingham is very liberal,” the neighbor said, noting the area, which housed Afghan evacuees following the botched withdrawal, was “Very welcoming. Very diverse. Very open.”
Following the ambush-style attack, Lakanwal’s neighbor said federal agents kicked down the accused gunman’s mustard-colored front door about 16 hours later. . .
“They took everybody out of the apartment but I don’t think the kids were there. It’s pretty shocking. Every sign in the world is pointing [to Lakanwal being the shooter] but there are some things that just aren’t adding up,” the neighbor added.
“One thing that stuck out to us was that law enforcement didn’t show up until 16, 17 hours after it happened. It’s hard to [know why he did it] because you don’t know his mindset. You know if he just snapped.” (Read more from “Inside American Dream life of alleged DC National Guard terrorist — as neighbors reveal dramatic FBI raid” HERE)

By Breitbart. Rahmanullah Lakanwal, a 29-year-old Afghan national, has been identified as the suspect in the shooting of two national guardsmen in Washington, D.C.
Multiple law enforcement officials reported confirmed to CBS News that “The suspect in the shooting of the two National Guard members is 29-year-old Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal.”
“The suspect used a handgun to carry out the attack, two law enforcement sources told CBS News,” it added.
Lakanwal reportedly entered the United States in 2021, most likely as a result of President Joe Biden’s botched pullout of American troops from Afghanistan.

The Trump administration on Friday asked the Supreme Court to intervene in the ongoing legal battle over the deployment of National Guard troops to Chicago.
“This case presents what has become a disturbing and recurring pattern. Federal officers are attempting to enforce federal immigration law in an urban area containing significant numbers of illegal aliens,” Solicitor General John Sauer wrote. “The federal agents efforts are met with prolonged, coordinated, violent resistance that threatens their lives and safety and systematically interferes with their ability to enforce federal law.”
Judge April Perry of the District Court for the Northern District of Illinois initially blocked the deployment of the National Guard to Chicago. Her ruling was upheld by a three-judge federal appeals court on Thursday. The judges claimed there was “insufficient evidence of rebellion or a danger of a rebellion” and that with “regular forces,” the president could still maintain the law.
Sauer argues that the resistance forces federal agents to “scramble to protect themselves and federal property” in the face of “violent, hostile mobs.” Thus, presidential authority is warranted.
“Federal officers in Chicago have been threatened and assaulted, attacked in a harrowing pre-planned ambush involving many assailants, rammed in their government vehicles, shot at with fireworks and other improvised weapons, injured and hospitalized, and threatened in person and online, including by a $10,000 bounty for the murder of a senior federal official,” he wrote. President Trump is deploying 400 Texas National Guard troops to Illinois, Oregon, and other states as swarms of anti-ICE protesters continue to clash with federal agents, Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker said Sunday night.
The Democrat blasted Trump’s “invasion” hours after the president mobilized 300 California National Guard members to Portland, where unrest has raged for over 100 consecutive days outside an immigration detention center — a scene that has been playing out in Chicago since September.
Pritzker said the plan defies his wishes, adding that federal officials haven’t reached out to coordinate or discuss the deployment.
“We must now start calling this what it is: Trump’s Invasion,” the governor said in a post on X, encouraging “every American to speak up and help stop this madness.”
“It started with federal agents, it will soon include deploying federalized members of the Illinois National Guard against our wishes, and it will not involve sending in another state’s military troops. I call on [Texas] Governor [Greg] Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate.” (Read more from “Trump to Send 400 Texas National Guard Troops to Illinois as Anti-ICE Protests Continue to Rage: Pritzker” HERE)

Speaking from the Oval Office Monday afternoon, President Donald Trump announced he will deploy the National Guard and federal law enforcement agencies to Memphis, Tennessee.
.@POTUS: "This team will deploy the full powers of federal law enforcement agencies… to restore public safety and get dangerous career criminals off our streets. In 2024, Memphis had the highest violent crime rate, the highest property crime rate, and the third highest murder… https://t.co/5vzXVT56Topic.twitter.com/3m6Pus0Ihe
Trump was flanked by Attorney General Pam Bondi, FBI Director Kash Patel, Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn, Tennessee Governor Bill Lee and others when he made the announcement.
“For months, I have been in constant communication with the Trump Administration to develop a multi-phased, strategic plan to combat crime in Memphis, leveraging the full extent of both federal and state resources. The next phase will include a comprehensive mission with the Tennessee National Guard, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Tennessee Highway Patrol, Memphis Police Department, and other law enforcement agencies, and we are working closely with the Trump Administration to determine the most effective role for each of these agencies to best serve Memphians,” Governor Lee released in a statement last week.
“Our goal is to accelerate the positive momentum of Operation Viper — an ongoing FBI mission in Memphis with a dedicated task force of federal, state, and local law enforcement that has already arrested hundreds of the most violent offenders. To further support this mission, I have authorized an additional Tennessee Highway Patrol surge in Shelby County, and THP continues to work closely with the Memphis Police Department through the Bluff City Task Force,” he continued. “I’ve been in close contact with the Administration throughout the week, and will be speaking with President Trump this afternoon to work out details of the mission. I’m grateful for the President’s unwavering support and commitment to providing every resource necessary to serve Memphians, and I look forward to working with local officials and law enforcement to continue delivering results. As one of America’s world-class cities, Memphis remains on a path to greatness, and we are not going to let anything hold them back.” (Read more from “The National Guard is Headed to Another Crime Ridden City” HERE)

A lawsuit has been filed against Idaho Gov. Brad Little and couple of the state’s National Guard leaders for removing a Christian officer from command “solely due to his personal Christian expression on biblical sexuality made outside of the military environment.”
The action is coming from Liberty Counsel, which has reported on facts of the situation.
“The ‘No Christians in Command’ policy constitutes a religious gerrymander by unconstitutionally orphaning sincerely held religious beliefs while permitting the more favored nonreligious value systems,” the case charges. “On its face and as applied, [the policy] lacks any rational basis and is irrational and unjustifiable.” . . .
The dispute is over the state’s attacks on Maj. David Worley, an infantry officer who ran for mayor in Pocatello, Idaho.
“During Worley’s political campaign, which he conducted strictly outside his military duties, he expressed his religious convictions and moral objections to certain issues relevant to political discourse in his community. He expressed his opposition to issues involving so-called ‘Drag Queen Story Hours,’ pornographic material for minors in public libraries, and the medical mutilation of gender-confused children. All of Worley’s protected speech occurred off-duty in his private capacity and before he took command of the Idaho Army National Guard’s Recruiting and Retention unit,” the legal team said. Liberty Counsel has announced it is bringing a free speech fight to the Idaho Army National Guard demanding the organization “restore” the career of an infantry officer who was removed from command and illegally pressured to resign because of a soldier’s complaints about the officer’s statements regarding his personal Christian beliefs.
The statements were made as the officer explained on his private social media his perspectives on gender ideology and the sexualization of children. The officer argued against graphic and obscene children’s books in a library, “drag” events in libraries and schools and said “no child is born in the wrong body.” . . .
The comments upset a “subordinate senior enlisted man” who promptly complained about being offended.
“I feel like I have been discriminated against because of my sexual orientation and that is [sic] has caused a hostile work environment. The purpose of this complaint is to bring to your attention several instances in which I believe I have faced discriminatory treatment based on my sexual orientation. I am deeply concerned about the hostile and prejudiced behavior I have experienced, which has adversely affected my well-being, work performance, and overall sense of belonging within the workplace/organization,” the complaint claimed.
The subordinate, who “claims to be homosexual,” prompted the National Guard’s negative actions against the officer, Liberty Counsel said. (Read more from “National Guard Officer Booted From Command for Voicing Christian Beliefs” HERE)

Massachusetts Democratic Gov. Maura Healey’s office plans to convert a National Guard armory in Lexington into a temporary “safety-net” shelter for illegal immigrants, the Boston Herald reported Monday.
The Lexington Armory is roughly 35,000 square feet and includes an assembly hall, a mess hall with classroom space, a kitchen, showers, and administrative space.
The Executive Office of Housing and Livable Communities stated that nine Massachusetts National Guardsmen are currently using the building to complete administrative tasks. Despite the facility’s planned conversion into a shelter space, the guardsmen will continue to use the building daily.
Emergency Assistance director and retired Air National Guard Lt. Gen. Scott Rice told the news outlet that the armory will provide housing to 55 families. According to the Boston Herald, the site will also be open to homeless American families. The governor has claimed that many individuals utilizing the state’s emergency shelter program are Massachusetts residents.
“We have identified a state-owned building in Lexington to use as a safety-net site for families experiencing homelessness. Preparations are underway in close collaboration with local officials, and we expect to open the site next month,” Rice told the media outlet. Four D.C. National Guard officials involved in responding to the Capitol riots on Jan. 6, 2021, alleged on Wednesday that top Army leaders lied to Congress about why they did not order the guard to deploy for hours after the need became clear.
Several high-ranking Pentagon leaders at the time, including former Secretary of the Army Ryan McCarthy, then-acting Defense Secretary Chris Miller and former Chair of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley have claimed the National Guard was sent to the Capitol as soon as they were needed, according to Politico. But National Guard “whistleblowers” accused the officials of seeking to cover up the Army’s reputation and shift the blame elsewhere in testimony before a panel of the House Administration Committee at a hearing Wednesday.
“I have no idea why we never received that order,” retired D.C. National Guard Command Sergeant Major Michael Brooks, told lawmakers. “All I know is that they were more concerned with what it would look like with soldiers with the Capitol in the background than protecting the Capitol of the United States.”
He attributed the roughly three-hour span between when the D.C. police chief pleaded for National Guard assistance and when troops received the order to deploy to “misunderstandings of the capabilities of the D.C. National Guard and the seriousness of the situation.”
McCarthy and senior leaders of the Army staff delayed dispatching the National Guard, Brooks added. (Read more from “‘Lied With Impunity’: National Guard Whistleblowers Accuse Army Leaders of Covering up Jan. 6 Deployment Delay” HERE)
