Video Shows Oklahoma Principal Tackling School Shooter, Halting Attack
Newly released security camera footage shows the moment an Oklahoma principal was shot and injured as he tackled a former student who walked into school carrying a gun.
Pauls Valley High School Principal Kirk Moore has been hailed as a hero by state officials for stopping the April 7 shooting before students were hurt.
The footage, released Tuesday, April 14, shows a man walking into what appears to be a school lobby carrying a gun. At least two other people are in the lobby. Moore runs in and tackles him. A second school employee then walks in to help and takes the gun away from the man.
Moore was shot in the leg and survived.
The accused shooter, Victor Hawkins, is facing felony charges of shooting with intent to kill and pointing a firearm, as well as two misdemeanor counts of carrying a weapon into a public assembly. Investigators wrote in court filings that Hawkins, 20, told them he wanted his own school shooting “like the Columbine shooters did.” (Read more from “Video Shows Oklahoma Principal Tackling School Shooter, Halting Attack” HERE)
