Source: McConnell, Cornyn Whipping Votes Against Ted Cruz

picture - mcconnell-cornynA source in Congress tells Breitbart News that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell and Senate Minority Whip John Cornyn are using their leadership positions to pressure other Republicans to oppose Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) in his campaign to defund Obamacare.

“Right now in the Senate, Mitch McConnell and John Cornyn are actively whipping Senators to shut down debate on the House continuing resolution so that Harry Reid can gut it with just 51 votes,” a senior congressional staffer with intimate knowledge of the situation said in an email to Breitbart News. “Unbelievably, they actually are leading the fight to fully fund Obamacare.”

McConnell and Cornyn stated earlier Monday that they oppose a possible filibuster from Cruz to keep Reid from adding language funding the Affordable Care Act to the continuing resolution passed by the House of Representatives.

As Breitbart News reported on Saturday, McConnell and Cornyn could help Cruz win:

First, when Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid brings the House continuing resolution (CR) to the floor next week, Minority Leader Mitch McConnell needs to deliver 41 Republican votes to filibuster it until Senator Reid agrees not to try and restore funding for Obamacare. McConnell has the power to ensure that Reid cannot get an amendment onto the bill that strips the Obamacare defunding language with a simple majority vote.

‘Top’ DC Republicans Sent Oppo Research To ‘Hammer’ Cruz

Picture - ted_cruz_railing_APOn Sunday, Chris Wallace, the host of Fox News Sunday, said that Republicans in Washington were savaging Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) behind Cruz’s back before Cruz’s appearance on the program to discuss defunding Obamacare.

In an appearance on Washington D.C.’s Fox 5 to preview his Sunday show, Wallace said, “I will tell you I have never in my time in Washington seen a party so upset with one of its own members.”

He said he had been flooded with opposition research on Cruz–from Republicans. Later on Fox News Sunday, Wallace said these “top Republicans” gave him “unsolicited research and questions” to “hammer” Cruz…

In an exclusive op-ed for Breitbart News on Saturday, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who has also been savaged by establishment Republicans, urged Cruz to stay strong in the face of inevitable attacks from fellow Republicans and suggested they compare “shiv marks” the next time they meet.

Democrat Official to Ted Cruz Aide: I hope your kids ‘die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases’

picture - Democrat to Ted Cruz AideWhen a speechwriter for Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, took to Twitter to tout her boss’ recent work, a California Democrat Party official blasted back, wishing death and “debilitating diseases” upon her children.

Amanda Carpenter, a speechwriter and senior communications adviser to Cruz, tweeted out Friday morning, “GOP beat gun control, changed Obama’s mind on Syria, is holding the line on amnesty. We can defund Obamacare, too!”

But Allan Brauer, who works as the communications chair for the Democratic Party of Sacramento County in California, fired back a shocking reply, “@amandacarpenter May your children all die from debilitating, painful and incurable diseases…”

And after catching heat online over his comments toward Carpenter and her children, Brauer initially defended himself with equally personal attacks.

He posted a status update on Twitter about the criticism he’d received, stating, “Busy blocking the tapeworms that have slithered out of hellspawn @amandacarptenter’s a–hole. How’s your day?”…

Eventually, even Brauer apologized, tweeting, “I am truly sorry for my tweet. I was very upset and lashed out. Your kids are not fair game either. My apologies.” Carpenter accepted the apology.

Rush Limbaugh Explodes While Outlining the GOP’s ‘All-Out Assault on Ted Cruz’ (+audio)

Conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh claims there is an “all-out assault” on Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and others like him — within the Republican Party. He said the GOP establishment is currently carrying out a plan to “deal with” Cruz and others in their bid to “take over the Republican Party.”

He cited David Brooks, a “supposed conservative columnist for the New York Times,” who has reportedly warned that Cruz and other lawmakers like him “threaten the traditional Republican Party.”

“Brooks insists that Ted Cruz’s motives are less about legislation and policy and more about the politics of undermining the Republican establishment,” Limbaugh added. “And Brooks considers himself to be a ranking member of the Republican establishment.”

Limbaugh then played an audio clip of Brooks attacking Cruz on PBS’ “Newshour.”

The GOP Elites Never Miss an Opportunity to Pick a Fight

In the midst of the Navy Yard attack, former George W. Bush speechwriter David Frum took advantage of the chaos to attack gun rights advocates. Gun control is a repeated hobbyhorse for Frum, who blamed the “gun lobby” for the atrocity at Sandy Hook Elementary in December. His reaction to Navy Yard placed him in common company with a newly-adrenalized Russian diplomat, who used the event to mock America.

A few days before, Frum’s ideological ally, David Brooks, took to the airwaves on PBS’ Newshour to attack what he called “the rise of Ted Cruz-ism,” his term for the efforts of conservatives to tackle such “fringe” priorities as ObamaCare, which is more loathed by the American people than ever. Brooks has been at war with the conservative grassroots since long before the Tea Party, calling Sarah Palin a “fatal cancer” in Oct. 2008.

Both Frum and Brooks are from Canada–a fact that would not merit mention, save for the additional fact that Brooks seems to think that it is acceptable to attack Cruz’s Canadian birth as a mark of illegitimacy. He called Cruz “the senator from Canada through Texas,” a meaningless, pseudo-nativist slur that he evidently believed would strike some kind of ironic chord with PBS’s urbane, intellectual, cosmopolitan, left-leaning audience.

David Brooks warns of ‘the rise of Ted Cruz-ism,’ takeover of Republican Party (+video)

Picture David BrooksOn PBS’s “NewsHour” on Friday night, New York Times columnist David Brooks warned that Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz and similar legislators’ rise to prominence threatens the traditional Republican Party.

Brooks insists the motives of Cruz are less about legislation and policy and more about the politics of undermining the Republican establishment.

“What’s going on in the House, and a bit in the Senate, too, is what you might call the rise of Ted Cruz-ism,” Brooks said. “And Ted Cruz, the senator from Canada through Texas, is basically not a legislator in the normal sense, doesn’t have an idea that he’s going to Congress to create coalitions, make alliances, and he is going to pass a lot of legislation. He’s going in more as a media-protest person. And a lot of the House Republicans are in the same mode. They’re not normal members of Congress. They’re not legislators. They want to stop things. And so they’re just being — they just want to obstruct.”

“And the second thing they’re doing, which is alarming a lot of Republicans, is they’re running against their own party,” he continued. “Ted Cruz is running against Republicans in the Senate. The House Republican Tea Party types are running against the Republican establishment.” He added, “And so they’re having a very obstructive role which is going on this week, and I think it’s going to make John Boehner’s life even more difficult.”

Obamacare opponents are planning a defunding rally for the first day lawmakers return from August recess and just three weeks before millions can start enrolling in coverage.

Republican Sens. Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky and Mike Lee of Utah), who have been leading calls in the Senate to defund the law in any spending bills, will headline the Sept. 10 Exempt America from Obamacare event, organized by Tea Party Patriots and ForAmerica, along with other conservative groups.

“Democrats will stop at nothing to protect the president’s signature legislation, and too many Republicans are afraid to fight,” rally organizers wrote.

Ted Cruz: Eric Holder ‘Working to Undermine the Integrity of our Elections’

eric_holder1177Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas accused Attorney General Eric Holder of “working to undermine the integrity of our elections” in response to a Justice Department lawsuit that would block Texas voter ID and redistricting laws and require the Lone Star State to seek federal approval for other election changes.

“Today’s decision by the U.S. Department of Justice to sue Texas is, sadly, only the latest manifestation of the DOJ’s increasing politicization under this Administration,” Cruz said in a statement.

“Americans overwhelmingly support voter ID laws because they understand that voter fraud weakens our democracy, and unfortunately it is often minority voters who are the victims of that fraud. The Department of Justice should not be working to undermine the integrity of our elections.”

Cruz: Ignore Media, GOP ‘Can Win’ Defunding Obamacare Argument

ted cruz immigrationAt a spirited town hall today, Senator Ted Cruz pushed for Obamacare to be defunded in the upcoming spending bill.

“Our friends in the media like to tell us this is not a fight we can win,” Cruz told attendees at the event which was sponsored by Heritage Action. “Let me tell you how we win this fight. The house of representatives will pass a continuing resolution that funds everything, everything in its entirety, except Obamacare.”

“What happens next is President Obama and Harry Reid are going to scream and yell ‘Those mean nasty Republicans are threatening to shut down the federal government,’” Cruz continued. “What has to happen after that is we’ve got to do something conservatives haven’t done in a long time. We’ve got to stand up and win the argument.”
