Biden Administration Invokes Civil Rights Act to Stall Texas Highway Widening

President Joe Biden’s Department of Transportation is invoking the Civil Rights Act to pause a highway project near Houston, a rare move that offers an early test of the administration’s willingness to wield federal power to address a long history of government-driven racial inequities.

DOT’s intervention follows complaints from local activists that the state’s proposed widening of Interstate 45 would displace an overwhelmingly Black and Hispanic community, including schools, places of worship and more than 1,000 homes and businesses.

It also comes as Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg has identified racial equity as a major priority for his department — after decades in which federal highway money has paid for projects that leveled minority and low-income communities. Texas Lt. Governor Blasts American Airlines For Opposing Election Integrity Bill

Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick (R) is “stunned” American Airlines issued a statement opposing an election integrity bill, Senate Bill 7, following passage early Thursday morning, as the CEO admittedly did not read the legislation.

“I am stunned that American Airlines would put out a statement saying ‘we are strongly opposed to this bill’ [Senate Bill 7],” the lieutenant governor said, “just minutes after their government relations representative called my office and admitted that neither he nor the American Airlines CEO had actually read the legislation.”

Patrick said he heard the same outcries from corporations in 2011 — claims that Texas passed a “voter suppression” bill when it passed a photo voter ID bill. He said the opposite of voter suppression occurred.

“Voter turnout in Texas soared from 7,993,851 in 2012 to 11,144,040 in 2020, a 39 percent increase. Gubernatorial election voter turnout has increased by 76 percent since photo voter ID was passed,” he said in his statement.

Student Activists Enraged at Conservative Group for Putting Bible Verses in Easter Eggs

A conservative student group at the University of North Texas (UNT) received threats after they placed 250 Easter eggs filled with Bible verses around campus.

A slew of left-wing activists announced on social media that they would compete to see who could capture and destroy the most eggs. One student went as far as to message the YCT chairwoman and tell her to kill herself.

“Time to stomp some eggs,” one student tweeted. “Time to do a capture the egg challenge everyone,” another said. . .

The YCT members were shocked at how much pushback the egg hunt received. The group’s chairwoman, Kelly Neidert, told The Daily Wire that Easter eggs with Bible verses “shouldn’t be this controversial.”

“This was intended to be a fun event for everyone. You don’t need to be a Christian to read an uplifting Bible verse and appreciate it,” Neidert said. “One student even messaged and told me to kill myself over this event, which was a little upsetting because some Bible verse Easter eggs shouldn’t be this controversial.” (Read more from “Student Activists Enraged at Conservative Group for Putting Bible Verses in Easter Eggs” HERE)

Twitter ‘Mistakenly’ Censors Photos of Overflow Cells

Twitter censored exclusive photos from Project Veritas showing thousands of immigrants sleeping on the floor in tight quarters at a Texas detention center, hiding the content behind a filter marked “potentially sensitive.” Twitter later reversed the censorship, calling it an error.

Project Veritas founder James O’Keefe posted a video featuring a compilation of the photos to Twitter on Monday morning. The video was promptly hidden behind a filter claiming the content was “potentially sensitive,” requiring users with the sensitive content filter to click through the warning message in order to see it.

A Twitter spokeswoman told Breitbart News that the “potentially sensitive content” warning was “incorrectly applied by one of our automated tools and it has since been removed.” (Read more from “Twitter ‘Mistakenly’ Censors Photos of Overflow Cells” HERE)

31 Texas Children Recovered in “Operation Missing in the Metroplex”

The United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas announced today that 31 DFW-area children have been located, recovered, or rescued as a result of “Operation Missing in the Metroplex,” a month-long operation led by the U.S. Marshals Service and Homeland Security Investigations.

The federal agencies partnered with four local police departments – the Arlington Police Department, the Dallas Police Department, the Fort Worth Police Department, and the Grand Prairie Police Department – to locate the missing minors.

Analysts with the Texas Department of Public Safety’s Missing & Unidentified Persons Unit and the Texas Department of Family & Protective Services provided critical intelligence. Local nonprofit 4theONE provided 24-hour support and relayed numerous tips that culminated in recoveries.

“To observe law enforcement partnerships and community concerns culminate into such a successful recovery outcome is rewarding,” said Acting United States Marshal Quintella Downs-Bradshaw. “Victims should know they are not forgotten, there is hope and a way to return home.”

“While this joint operation lasted approximately 30 days, HSI Dallas will continue working relentlessly to identify and recover missing children who become vulnerable to human traffickers across the North Texas region,” said HSI Dallas Special Agent in Charge Ryan L. Spradlin. “Our continued collaboration with our local, state and federal law-enforcement partners and non-governmental organizations is vital to combatting this global epidemic.” (Read more from “31 Texas Children Recovered in “Operation Missing in the Metroplex”” HERE)

Texas Governor Fires Back at Biden: Releasing Migrants With COVID Is ‘Neanderthal Thinking’

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott fired back at President Biden on Thursday for accusing him and other red-state leaders of “Neanderthal thinking” for lifting COVID-19 mask mandates — insisting it is the president who has primitive policy logic.

In an interview with “Fox and Friends,” Abbott took a swing at Biden after more than 100 illegal immigrants who tested positive for the coronavirus were released by the Border Patrol into the Lone Star State.

“First, it obviously is not the type of thing that the president should be saying,” Abbott said on the show. “But, second, he kind of said it on the worst day he could have, because the same day he said that in Texas, the Biden administration was releasing illegal immigrants into our communities who had COVID.”

He added, “The Biden administration was exposing Texans to COVID. That is a Neanderthal-type approach to dealing with the COVID situation.” (Read more from “Texas Governor Fires Back at Biden: Releasing Migrants With COVID Is ‘Neanderthal Thinking’” HERE)

Judge Overturns Biden’s Deportation ‘Pause’ Indefinitely

A federal judge in Texas on Wednesday extended his order halting President Biden’s 100-day pause on the deportation of illegal immigrants.

After issuing a two-week restraining order on Jan. 26, U.S. District Judge Drew Tipton indefinitely banned enforcement of Biden’s Inauguration Day memorandum.

The order comes in a lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton that argues Biden’s policy violates federal law and an agreement with the Department of Homeland Security requiring that Texas be consulted before any such move.

Biden’s 100-day pause was part of his effort to reverse the immigration policies of the Trump administration, stopping through executive action border wall construction and the Migrant Protection Protocols. He’s now pushing legislation that would include a path to citizenship for most of the illegal immigrants in the country, which various estimates place between 11 and 22 million. Tragic End for Texas Family Huddled Around Fireplace to Stay Warm: ‘Just Screaming Their Names’

A Texas mom recalled “screaming” her tragic kids’ names as they burned to death in a house fire amid the widespread power outages last week.

Jackie Nguyen’s kids, Olivia, 11, Edison, 8, and Colette, 5, as well as her own mother, Loan Le, died early last Tuesday morning in the blaze at Nguyen’s Sugar Land home.

“I was just standing there screaming and screaming and screaming their names hoping they would come out of their rooms and basically jump over so that we could get out,” Nguyen told CNN. “I just remember feeling like it was so dark and I can still kind of hear everything crackling around me.”

. . .The close-knit kin gathered around the fireplace and played card games before turning in for bed at around 9:30 p.m.

Nguyen’s memory from that fateful night is spotty but she does remember not being able to get to her children’s rooms on the second floor and yelling for them as the fire raced through their home. Family of Boy Who Died in Frigid Texas Trailer Sues ERCOT for $100M

The family of a Texas boy who apparently froze to death — after the family’s mobile home lost power during an intense cold snap — have filed a $100 million lawsuit against the region’s utility providers, blaming them for the tragedy.

Cristian Pavon Pineda, 11, was found lifeless in a bed next to his toddler brother Monday, as temperatures inside plunged into the single digits and the family struggled to keep warm.

Power grid operator ERCOT and electricity provider Entergy failed to warn people of the dangerous conditions and gave incomplete guidance to customers during the recent historic cold, the family charges, according to reports. WATCH: Arizona Man Goes to Texas to Repair Water-Damaged Homes

An Arizona man inspired to do good went to Texas, which has been storm-ravaged in recent days, to repair water-damaged homes.

Jordan Orta, who owns Tru Grit Restoration, says he called a Texas property management company to see if they needed any help after the treacherous winter storm.

When the company said yes, Orta began his 16-hour drive to Dallas, Texas, without hesitation, KSAZ reported.

Orta said he could not stand by and do nothing after he heard about the storm’s impact on Texas and how people were being displaced from their homes. (Read more from “Watch: Arizona Man Goes to Texas to Repair Water-Damaged Homes” HERE)
