By USA Today. Three Texas House Democrats have tested positive for the coronavirus in Washington, D.C., according to Texas House Democratic Caucus leadership.

They’re among nearly 60 lawmakers who fled the state last week to break quorum in the House, part of an effort to block the passage of a GOP-led elections bill. Most members are staying in the same hotel.

One member found out about their positive test result late Friday evening, but they did not have symptoms, caucus officials said. All House lawmakers were alerted and received a rapid test immediately after the member’s positive result.

Two additional members tested positive in a rapid test Saturday morning, and one has mild symptoms, the caucus said. . .

Texas Democrat Who Fled to DC Tweets About Making the Rest of Us Suffer With a Mask Mandate

By Townhall. One of the Texan Democrats who traveled was Rep. Gene Wu (D-Houston), who, as Katie highlighted, has some pretty insufferable tweets.

In his one of his more recent tweets, Wu quipped he is going to ask to ask President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris to institute a mask policy, as he mockingly responded to a tweet.

While this article was being written, the tweet Wu was responding to became unavailable, as the owner deleted the account. It was of Vice President Kamala Harris speaking to the members in an indoor room, while she and others were without masks. . .

Despite CDC guidelines and federal mandating all passengers, regardless of vaccination status wear a mask while at the airport, on the airplane, and using other methods of travel, Wu and his colleagues all appeared without masks on their charter bus and private plan to D.C.

Here We Go: Texas Democrat Stripped of Leadership Post for Fleeing the State

State Rep. Joe Moody (D-El Paso) has been stripped of his position as speaker pro tem in the Texas House following his decision to flee the state in order to stymie the ongoing special session that Gov. Greg Abbott called.

House Speaker Dade Phelan, a Beaumont Republican, announced the removal of Moody as speaker pro tem in a memo Thursday morning before the House was set to return on Thursday. He gave no statement but said the removal was effective immediately.

“The most important titles in my life will never change: Dad, Husband, El Pasoan,” Moody said in a statement. “Nothing political has ever even cracked the top three, so nothing has changed about who I am or what my values are.”

Moody is (or was) one of Speaker Phelan’s closest Democrat allies. Two of the terms he used to describe himself — Dad and husband — are gender-specific terms forbidden by the rules adopted by the Democratic leadership in the United States House of Representatives. Texas Democrat Shocks With Photo of Drying Clothes, As Lawmakers Fleeing Vote Claim To Be Martyrs

A Texas Democrat who was among more than 50 state lawmakers to fly from Austin to Washington, D.C., earlier this week to block a GOP voting bill by denying quorum was called out by critics on social media Thursday night over a post about her hand-washed clothes.

Critics suggested the post was another self-serving attempt by a Democrat to portray their absence from Texas – after taking a chartered flight to the nation’s capital – as a personal sacrifice instead of a political strategy move.

“You bet we’re recognizing & honoring our country’s heritage,” state Rep. Donna Howard posted. “As most Texans, tho [sp], this is what we’re doing tonight—using whatever is accessible, uwashing [sic] our clothes in the sink.”

Howard’s Twitter post included a photo of her wet clothes draped over a shower curtain in what looked like a modest hotel room.

By Daily Caller. President Joe Biden repeated a talking point that called Republicans’ election reform bills the greatest threat to democracy “since the Civil War” and compared Jan. 6 rioters to Confederate soldiers during a Tuesday speech.

Biden spoke at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia Tuesday afternoon. He called GOP election integrity efforts “an assault on democracy, an assault on liberty” and “an assault on who we are.” The president referred to his oath of office, where he swore to protect the country against both foreign and domestic threats.

“Bullies and merchants of fear, peddlers of lies, are threatening the very foundation of our country,” Biden told the crowd. “The assault on free and fair elections is not just a threat. Literally – I’ve said it before – we’re facing the most significant test of our democracy since the Civil War. That’s not hyperbole.”

He also compared Jan. 6 rioters to Confederate soldiers.

Texas Set to Close Centers Housing Illegal Alien Minors

Tensions are mounting between Republican Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and the Biden administration as Abbott plans to shut down centers holding 4,500 illegal alien children and visit the border with former President Donald Trump.

Abbott has been outspoken about what he calls Biden’s “disastrous” border policies and penned a letter to Health and Human Services (HHS) Secretary Xavier Becerra slamming the federal government’s reliance on the state.

“The federal government must solve the federal problem caused by the Biden administration’s disastrous open-border policies,” Abbott wrote. “Texas will not be commandeered into federal government service.”

Politico reported that Abbot will revoke the licenses of shelters for illegal alien children beginning on August 31 — “a move that threatens to upend the refugee resettlement effort and has left federal health officials threatening to sue.”

Disturbing: Judge Gives Child Rapist Just 180 Days, While Forcing a Father To Get Experimental Vaccine Before Seeing His Kids

Rape someone else’s child? Just 180 days of jail time will suffice. You want to see your own child after divorcing your wife? You can never do that unless you take an experimental gene therapy sold as a vaccine. That is essentially the ethos from a pair of court decisions made by Polk County District Court Judge Travis Kitchens this month. The biggest irony of all? The local Fox affiliate reporter who broke these two stories is the same woman who tried to report about the efficacy of hydroxychloroquine and claims she was muzzled by Fox Corp. in doing so.

KRIV-TV reporter Ivory Hecker, who has since been fired, reported last week that Eli Binnion, a child rapist, was sentenced to just 180 days in jail (not prison) for a 2018 rape of a 14-year-old girl in a Polk County, Texas, motel. According to the victim’s father, Judge Travis Kitchens didn’t even allow the parents to testify at the sentencing hearing. While Binnion was in jail for the rape, he brutally attacked a fellow inmate, breaking his jaw. According to Hecker, “Judge Kitchens gave Binnion a three-year sentence for the assault, and because he’s been in jail since 2018, he’ll be out in a matter of months.” . . .

Just how liberal is this alleged Republican judge? While he lets child rapists off the hook, he treats fathers like criminals unless they get the mRNA gene therapy. In May, Hecker reported that Judge Kitchens ordered Chris Staley, a father of four going through a divorce, to get vaccinated for COVID before being able to visit his children, ages 6 through 11. The father is more likely to harm his children by infecting them with nearly any other respiratory virus or bacteria, yet Kitchens is making him take an experimental vaccine that is already very problematic.

It’s hard to imagine how this order does not run afoul of Gov. Greg Abbott’s order barring any state government official from mandating the vaccine. Yet we are seeing all over Texas, most prominently with 117 health care workers at Houston Methodist hospital, people being forced to serve as lab rats. Clearly, the governor and state legislature are not doing enough to protect both civil liberties and public health. Haters Trying to Disbar Texas Attorney General Paxton for Filing Vote Fraud Suit

. . .The State Bar of Texas originally dismissed a complaint that Paxton had committed professional misconduct by petitioning the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn President Biden’s victory in four swing states. But the Board of Disciplinary Appeals, a tribunal of 12 independent lawyers appointed by the Texas Supreme Court, overturned that decision late last month, ordering the bar to investigate whether Paxton’s lawsuit to overturn Biden’s electoral win was frivolous, unethical, and filed in bad faith. AP reported Wednesday.

The state bar dismisses thousand of grievances each year, and the appellate board overturns those dismissals in fewer than 7 percent of cases.

The complaint against Paxton was filed by Keith Moran, president of the Galveston Island Democrats. Moran, 71, showed his initial complaint to AP and also a June 3 letter from the Board of Disciplinary Action indicating that Paxton has less than a month to respond. Paxton “wanted to disenfranchise the voters in four other states,” Moran told AP. “It’s just crazy.” He told The Texas Tribune that Paxton should have dropped the suit after legal experts predicted, correctly, that the Supreme Court would just dismiss it. “He wasted my taxpayer money,” Moran said. Illegal Immigration Crisis: Texas Governor Issues Disaster Declaration, Vows To Protect Border

The crisis at the border continues to worsen, with the U.S. Border Patrol recently releasing some shocking statistics that illuminate just how bad the situation has become. But Texas Governor Greg Abbott (R) is doing everything he can to prevent any additional unlawful crossings into the Lone Star State.

Abbott joined Glenn Beck on the radio program Wednesday to describe recent action he has taken to ensure that those who do cross into Texas illegally know they came to the “wrong state.”

After noting that both President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris “have completely abandoned post as it concerns the Texas border,” Abbott explained how “Texas is stepping up” to combat the flood of dangerous gangs and cartels, human traffickers and drugs pouring into border communities.

“Beginning in March, I deployed a thousand Texas Department of Public Safety officers to the border. I deployed the National Guard to the border. And they made well over a thousand arrests of some of these criminals we talked about. They’ve apprehended more than 33,000 illegal immigrants coming across the border.” Abbott said. “But because of the way the Biden administration has abandoned the border, we are now elevating our game. What I did yesterday, in response to more than a dozen counties along the border … I granted their request for a disaster declaration,” he added. Texas Governor: We’re Going to Defund Cities That Defund Police (VIDEO)

After signing a law that would prohibit cities within Texas to defund the police, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott told “The Faulkner Focus” on Tuesday that Austin should face consequences for its move to cripple local law enforcement. The governor retweeted a post from Kenneth Casaday, the president of the Austin Police Association, over the weekend that was critical of the response time for a shooting call early Sunday.

Texas Becomes Latest State to Pass Pro-Life Heartbeat Bill

Texas governor Greg Abbott (R.) signed a bill banning abortions after a fetal heartbeat is detected, making Texas the latest in a growing number of Republican-controlled states cracking down on abortions.

The new law, set to take effect in September, bans abortions after the detection of a fetal heartbeat, which can be as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. The legislation differs from other “heartbeat” bills by allowing private citizens to sue abortion providers if they believe the provider violated the ban. The only exception to the ban is an abortion performed in a medical emergency.
