Democratic Congress Finds Its Cheapest Trump Remedy

Impeaching the president is a grave matter. It should be undertaken only gravely and after great reflection.

Democrats didn’t have time for that, so instead, Nancy Pelosi just wore black and tried to shush her party’s raucous cheers.

Let’s face it: Democrats have been planning to impeach Donald Trump since he won the presidency. They hoped they would get some good dirt, and not without reason. Trump has consistently failed to separate his business interests from his public office. But they never found a high crime or misdemeanor, so they impeached him with whatever they could find.

We believe that Trump misused the power of the presidency when he tried to utilize foreign aid to coax Ukraine’s president into announcing an investigation of the Bidens. He “deployed the United States’ diplomatic capital to advance a partisan political agenda,” we wrote in September. . .

But not every presidential misdeed is impeachable. Every president abuses power. There’s almost no precedent for impeaching a president (it’s now happened only three times in history, and the first one was clearly a farce), and so it’s hard to know when abuse of power warrants impeachment. Liberal Lawyer TORCHES Democrats’ Impeachment Circus; Black Voter Support for Trump at ‘Highest Levels’

By Townhall. . .Liberal lawyer Alan Dershowitz scorched Democrats for pushing two articles of impeachment that simply do not meet constitutional standards. I mean I don’t think you need to go to law school to know that these charges are just liberal speak for “we don’t like this guy.” We all know that Democrats haven’t been able to handle Trump’s 2016 win. That’s not a good enough reason to impeach a duly elected president. He won. Hillary lost. Deal with it. Most Americans have done so, but for the most liberal, most disgusting parts of this country—it’s been an obsession top impeach Trump. It’s quasi-stalker-like behavior (via The Hill):

Neither of these proposed articles satisfy the express constitutional criteria for an impeachment, which are limited to “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors.” Neither are high or low crimes or misdemeanors. Neither are mentioned within the Constitution.

Both are so vague and open ended that they could be applied in partisan fashion by a majority of the House against almost any president from the opposing party. Both are precisely what the Framers had rejected at their Constitutional Convention. Both raise the “greatest danger,” in the words of Alexander Hamilton, that the decision to impeach will be based on the “comparative strength of parties,” rather than on “innocence or guilt.”

Black Voter Support for Trump at ‘Highest Levels’ and Could Seal 2020 Win

By Washington Examiner. A growing number of polls show that President Trump is gaining the support of black voters above what any Republican president has ever received. Both Emerson Polling and Rasmussen Reports have it at about 34%, a stunning number.

And a new Zogby Analytics survey found that African American support is at the “highest levels of the year,” driven by a strong economy, historically low black unemployment, and Trump’s agenda to support minority small businesses, historically black colleges and universities, and passage of criminal justice reform.

“Not surprisingly, all African Americans do not hate Trump!” pollster Jonathan Zogby said in sharing his data with us. . .

In all cases, while black support for Trump dropped when an alternative was offered, it was higher than the 8% he received in 2016 and maybe enough to push him across the finish line first in 2020.

Flashback: Democratic Vice Chair Who Rambled Through Impeachment Hearing Was Himself Impeached and Removed From Office

Florida Democratic Rep. Alcee Hastings, the vice chairman of the House Rules Committee, delivered a bizarre, rambling line of questioning during Tuesday’s impeachment hearing.

Oddly enough, Hastings, while serving as a federal judge, was impeached back in 1988 and removed from office in 1989.

Though the impeachment inquiry took place in 1988, the acts themselves – soliciting a $150,000 bribe in exchange for lightening sentences for two mob-connected individuals – took place in 1981. Hastings was acquitted of conspiracy and obstruction of justice charges in relation to the bribe, but new evidence later revealed Hastings had lied during his testimony and falsified evidence.

Report: Democrats Have the Votes to Impeach President Trump; Dems Preparing to Undermine Trump Victory in 2020

By Breitbart. House Democrats now have the votes to impeach President Donald J. Trump on Wednesday, the Wall Street Journal reported late Monday.

The Wall Street Journal‘s Siobhan Hughes, Lindsay Wise, and Natalie Andrews wrote Monday evening:

By Monday afternoon, at least 18 from the 31 Democratic-held districts that Mr. Trump won in the 2016 presidential race had announced they would support the abuse-of-power and obstruction of Congress charges, according to a Wall Street Journal survey, with two saying they are opposed.

In other words, given the recent surge over the weekend into early this week of announcements of support for Articles of Impeachment from a number of vulnerable House Democrats who had been holding out until now, the Democrats have crossed the threshold necessary to impeach the president–barring any unforeseen surprises. Democrats Preparing to Undermine Trump Victory in 2020

By Washington Examiner. Democrats are laying the groundwork to undermine the legitimacy of Donald Trump’s presidency if he wins in 2020, arguing foreign interference helped him get into the White House in the first place and then stay there.

House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff last week explained House Democrats’ expedited impeachment schedule against Trump for abuse of power and obstructing Congress, with House floor votes now set for Wednesday.

“The argument, ‘Why don’t you just wait?’, amounts to this: Why don’t you just let him cheat in one more election?” Schiff told reporters.

“Why not let him have foreign help one more time?” added the California Democrat, who led the intelligence panel’s investigation into whether Trump improperly leveraged U.S. military aid to pressure Ukraine into digging up political dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden, a top-tier 2020 Democratic White House candidate.

Democrats have not been shy about using the word “cheat” in reference to Trump’s 2016 campaign, which former special counsel Robert Mueller’s federal Russia inquiry found was boosted in part by Russian meddling. Though Mueller’s 22-month investigation failed to uncover evidence Trump’s team welcomed the foreign assistance, some prominent Democrats make it seem otherwise. South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg, who is seeking the Democratic presidential nomination, often laments on the campaign trail that Trump should never have been allowed to come “within cheating distance of the Oval Office.”

CNN Impeachment Poll Has Bad News for Democrats: Support Among Democrats Drops by Double Digits

By Daily Wire. A new CNN impeachment poll released on Monday found that not only is support for impeachment and removal underwater nationwide, but that support has dropped among Democrat voters by double-digits.

“Support for impeaching Trump and removing him from office stands at 45% in the new poll, down from 50% in a poll conducted in mid-November just after the conclusion of the House Intelligence Committee’s public hearings,” CNN reported. “Opposition to impeachment and removal stands at 47% in the new poll, up from 43% in November.”

CNN added, “Support for impeachment and removal among Democrats has dipped from 90% in November to 77% now.”

The news comes after Tom Bevan, Co-Founder and President of Real Clear Politics, reported on Monday that the new Real Clear Politics average — which averages out the top national polls — showed that public support for impeachment was underwater with 47.3% opposing impeachment while 46.7% support it.

Impeachment Support Collapses with Public as Trump Approval Ties Record High

By Daily Wire. Multiple new polls that have been released in recent days show that public support for impeachment has fallen to a record low and opposition to impeachment has surged to a record high which comes as President Donald Trump’s approval rating tied a record high in a separate poll. . .

A new poll from USA Today, whose editorial board recently endorsed impeachment, found that “in the wake of combative impeachment hearings, those surveyed oppose by 51%-45% a Senate vote to convict Trump on charges of abuse of power and obstruction of Congress.”

USA Today’s poll also showed “Trump defeating former vice president Joe Biden by three percentage points, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders by five points, and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren by eight points. In hypothetical head-to-head contests, Trump also led South Bend, Indiana, Mayor Pete Buttigieg by 10 points and former New York City mayor Michael Bloomberg by nine.”

Separately, a new poll from Quinnipiac University, whose polls often paint Trump in the worst possible light, said that Trump’s approval rating surged to the highest it has ever been in their polling at 43% — which is fairly low compared to the highs that Trump has registered in other polls. Senator Gives High-End Estimate That ‘Five to Ten’ Republicans Will Vote for Trump Impeachment; Democrats Grilled Over How They Ended Impeachment Hearing; Democrat Congressman WATCHES GOLF During Impeachment Hearing

By Newsweek. Democratic senator has claimed as many as “five to ten” of his Republican colleagues could vote to impeach President Donald Trump if articles of impeachment are brought before the chamber.

Connecticut Sen. Richard Blumenthal told MSNBC on Wednesday that “five to ten” GOP senators voting with Democrats was a “high-end” prediction, but suggested his estimate could rise further should “unpredicted evidence” emerge in the impeachment inquiry.

The senator’s prediction on MSNBC’s Hardball show yesterday came as the House Judiciary Committee held a debate on the articles of impeachment unveiled by Democrats on Tuesday. . .

Asked for a ‘high end’ number of Republican senators who would vote for conviction of the president, were he to be put on trial, Sen. Blumenthal told MSNBC: “I would give the high-end probably five to ten. I think that’s a realistic number. Democrats Grilled Over How They Ended Impeachment Hearing

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler, a New York Democrat, announced an apparent change in scheduling on voting to move forward with articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump late on Thursday night and was subsequently blasted by the Republicans for not even bringing them in to discuss their schedules.

“It has been a long two days of consideration of these articles [of impeachment] and it is now very late at night,” Nadler said. “I want the members on both sides of the aisle to think about what has happened over these last two days and to search their consciousnesses before we cast our final votes.

“Therefore the committee will now stand in recess until tomorrow morning at 10 a.m. at which point I will move to divide the question so that each of us may have the opportunity to cast up or down votes on each of the articles of impeachment and tell history to be our judge,” Nadler continued. The Committee is in recess.”

Ranking Member Doug Collins slammed Nadler, “Mr. Chairman, there is no consulting from the Ranking Member on your schedule for tomorrow in which you just blown up schedules for everyone? You chose not to consult the Ranking Member on a schedule issue of this magnitude? This is kangaroo court that we’re talking about.”

“It’s Stalinesque,” Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) shouted. “Let’s have a dictator, it was good to hear about that.”

Watch: Democrat Congressman Watches Golf During Impeachment Hearing

By Daily Wire. Democrat Rep. Cedric Richmond (LA) was accused of watching the President’s Cup golf tournament during the Democrats’ impeaching hearing on Thursday night in the House Judiciary Committee.

The incident, noticed by GOP Rapid Response Director Steve Guest, appears to show Richmond not taking the Democrats’ impeachment hearing seriously as he was clearly focused on the golf tournament.

Guest tweeted out a video showing Richmond watching golf, adding, “What on earth is Democrat Rep. Cedric Richmond watching on his laptop during this impeachment markup? To me, it looks like Rep. Richmond is watching the President’s Cup golf tournament. Richmond’s actions are a DISGRACE.”

In the video posted by Guest, Richmond can be seen at the bottom of the screen, right above CNN’s “BREAKING NEWS’ chyron, wearing a light gray suit.

In a second tweet, Guest zoomed in and the video clearly shows, although blurry, that Richmond was watching golf.

Top Ukraine Adviser Casts Doubt on Key Impeachment Testimony

A top Ukrainian official has disputed key claims made by Democrat witnesses testifying in the impeachment case against President Donald Trump, according to a recent report in TIME Magazine.

Andriy Yermak, the top adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, said that U.S. Ambassador to the European Union Gordon Sondland did not inform him of a quid pro quo offer when the two spoke in Warsaw last fall — a claim Sondland made during his testimony that has become central to the Democrats’ impeachment argument against the president. Instead, Yermak said the two men briefly met by the escalator after a meeting between President Zelensky and Vice President Mike Pence, and they both agreed the meeting between the two world leaders went very well.

“Gordon [Sondland] and I were never alone together,” Yermak told TIME in an interview last week. “We bumped into each other in the hallway next to the escalator as I was walking out … and I remember – everything is fine with my memory – we talked about how well the meeting went. House Judiciary Report BOMBSHELL: Dems Trying to Change the Constitution

The jig is up. The Democrats have now actually admitted—in writing—that their sad little attempt at impeachment is entirely baseless. The House Judiciary Committee Report was released Saturday and admitted two very critical points:

First, the Democrats are trying to change the standard of impeachment. They are literally changing the rules to fit their theatrical story. Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler wrote in the preface that the previous reports on grounds for impeachable offenses in the Nixon and Clinton eras “remain useful points of reference, but no longer reflect the best available learning on questioning relating to presidential impeachment.”

Why, Jerry? Because you have no evidence for legitimate grounds of impeachment? This only proves that President Trump indeed does not belong in the ranks of Nixon and Clinton, where there was actually evidence of impeachable offenses.

Second, the Democrats are proceeding with impeachment against President Trump not because of any past wrongdoing which they have no proof of, but to “save the Nation” from Trump remaining in office. That is not a constitutionally permissible reason to impeach. That’s why we have elections. The American people get to decide who remains in office, absent clear evidence of impeachable offenses actually committed. Nancy Pelosi Calls for Articles of Impeachment Against President Trump (VIDEO)

On Thursday morning, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi officially announced she will move forward with Democrat efforts to remove President Trump from office and called on House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler to draw up articles of impeachment for a vote.

“The President leaves us no choice but to act,” Pelosi said. “Sadly, but with confidence and humility, with allegiance to our founders and a heart full of love for America, today I am asking our chairman to proceed with articles of impeachment.”

“The president’s actions have seriously violated the Constitution—especially when he says and acts upon the belief Article 2 says I can do whatever I want. No,” she continued. “The president abused his power for his own personal political benefit at the expense of our national security.”

The Speaker cited partisan hearings held by House Intelligence Committee Chairman Adam Schiff and Nadler in recent weeks as reason to move forward. She also invoked God.

“Democrats too are prayerful and we will proceed in a manner worthy of our oath of office to support and defend the Constitution of the United States from all enemies, foreign and domestic, so help us God,” she continued.

This PROVES Americans Really Don’t Care Much About the Impeachment Hearings; Witness Drags Barron Trump Into Latest Impeachment Hearing

By Washington Examiner. More people have Googled “Peloton” than “impeachment” this week as another round of House impeachment hearings began, according to Google Trends search numbers.

House Democrats held their first House Judiciary Committee impeachment hearing on Wednesday, where they heard from professors about the legal framework of impeachment.

The fitness brand Peloton went viral this week after a commercial it released was mocked for showing a man buying his significant other a fitness bike for Christmas. The company responded to criticism of the ad by saying they were “disappointed” with how it was being interpreted.

“We constantly hear from our members how their lives have been meaningfully and positively impacted after purchasing or being gifted a Peloton Bike or Tread, often in ways that surprise them,” a representative for the company said in a Wednesday statement.

Impeachment Witness Apologizes for Mentioning Barron Trump During Hearing

By Washington Examiner. Stanford Law professor Pamela Karlan said she was “wrong” to have talked about Barron Trump during a House impeachment hearing.

“I want to apologize for what I said earlier about the president’s son. It was wrong of me to do that,” Karlan said Wednesday during the impeachment hearing. “I wish the president would apologize, obviously, for the things that he’s done that’s wrong, but I do regret having said that.”

Earlier in the hearing, the law professor used the 13-year-old Barron Trump to take a shot at the president. “The Constitution doesn’t allow titles of nobility,” Karlan said in front of the House Judiciary Committee. “So, while the president can name his son Barron, he can’t make him a baron.”

First lady Melania Trump responded on Twitter, calling for her child to be kept out of partisan politics. “A minor child deserves privacy and should be kept out of politics. Pamela Karlan, you should be ashamed of your very angry and obviously biased public pandering, and using a child to do it,” Melania Trump said.
