Olympic Gold Medalist Among Those Charged in Connection With Capitol Riot (VIDEO)

Two-time Olympic gold medal swimmer Klete Keller was charged in federal court Wednesday over allegations that he participated in last week’s riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Keller, 38, was charged in Washington, D.C., with obstructing law enforcement, knowingly entering or remaining in a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and violent entry and disorderly conduct, according to a criminal complaint.

A video posted on Twitter by a Townhall Media reporter showed Keller inside the Capitol with a group of President Donald Trump’s supporters. In the video, the crowd pushed against police officers who were trying to clear the Rotunda.

Keller was seen wearing a jacket with the letters “USA” on the back. (Read more from “Olympic Gold Medalist Among Those Charged in Connection With Capitol Riot” HERE)

FBI: People Are Going to Be ‘Shocked’ to Learn What Happened Inside the Capitol; WATCH: Analysis Concludes Antifa Provoked Shooting of Air Force Vet at Capitol

By Townhall. At a press conference from the Justice Department on Tuesday, the FBI addressed last Wednesday’s violence on Capitol Hill, and the steps they’re taking to identify and bring the culprits to justice. The protests interrupted Congress’s electoral college certification and, more tragically, five people are now dead in the aftermath of the chaos.

“To be clear, the brutality the American people watched with shock and disbelief will not be tolerated by the FBI,” Steven D’Auntuono, the FBI Washington Field Office ADIC said on Tuesday.

“We are up to the challenge…The FBI will leave no stone unturned in this investigation,” he added.

The FBI has opened over 160 case laws, and D’Auntuono said “that’s just the tip of the iceberg.”

The agency has received over 100,000 pieces of digital media, which D’Auntuono called “fantastic.” And as Acting US Attorney for DC Michael Sherwin noted, they’ve already charged over 70 cases.

WATCH: Analysis Concludes Antifa Provoked Shooting of Air Force Vet at Capitol

By WND. An analysis of videos of the death of Air Force veteran Ashli Babbitt at the U.S. Capitol indicates Antifa activists provoked the fatal gunshot from a police officer.

Japanese investigator Misako Ganaha explained in a video interview with Epoch Times reporter Joshua Philipp on his “Crossroads” program that she analyzed two lengthy videos, affording two different angles of the incident near the House chamber. . .

Ganaha pointed out to that just prior to the shooting, two men who had been agitating the crowd broke the glass on a set of doors.

Immediately after the glass was broken, a shot was fired as Babbitt attempted to go through the doors. . .

One of the men who broke the glass can be seen going down a stairway and changing into clothing he had stored in a backback.

U.S. Capitol Hill Officer Assigned to Senate Commits Suicide; Father Was Former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Who Died of Heart Attack at 62

By Daily Caller. A Capitol Police officer died in an off-duty incident, suspected to be suicide, on Friday, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Officer Howard Liebengood, 51, was assigned to the Senate Division and had worked with the department for almost 16 years and died in an off-duty incident, according to the Capitol Police. The department did not release the details of Liebengood’s death, though Punchbowl News reporter Jake Sherman said he died by suicide, citing “several sources.”

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues,” the Capitol Police said in a statement on Sunday. “We ask that his family, and other USCP officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected during this profoundly difficult time.”

U.S. Capitol Hill Officer Assigned to Senate Commits Suicide; Father Was Former Senate Sergeant-at-Arms Who Died of Heart Attack at 62

By Law and Crime. An officer with the United States Capitol Police has died by suicide. He was Howard Liebengood, said sources cited by Punch Bowl News‘ Jake Sherman and John Bresnahan.

“The United States Capitol Police is deeply saddened by the off-duty death on January 9, 2021, of Officer Howard Liebengood, age 51,” Capitol police said in a statement released on Sunday. “He was assigned to the Senate Division, and has been with the Department since April 2005. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends, and colleagues. We ask that his family, and other USCP officers’ and their families’ privacy be respected during this profoundly difficult time.”

Liebengood was the son of former Senate sergeant-at-arms Howard S. Liebengood, who died in 2005 of a heart attack at age 62. His father also previously served as a chief of staff for two Republican senators, and was a lobbyist.

It is unclear if Liebengood left behind an explanation. His death happens mere days after supporters of President Donald Trump stormed the Capitol Building on Wednesday. Congress was certifying the electoral college votes that favored President-elect Joe Biden. Trump has incessantly been lying that he actually won, and the election was stolen from him. U.S. Diplomats Revolt Against Trump

In a highly unusual move, American diplomats have drafted two cables condemning President Donald Trump’s incitement of the deadly assault on the Capitol and calling for administration officials to possibly support invoking the 25th Amendment to remove him from office.

Using what is known as the State Department’s “dissent channel,” career foreign and civil service officers said they fear last Wednesday’s siege may badly undermine U.S. credibility to promote and defend democratic values abroad.

“Failing to publicly hold the president to account would further damage our democracy and our ability to effectively accomplish our foreign policy goals abroad,” according to the second of the two cables, which were circulated among diplomats late last week and then sent to State Department leadership. U.S. Capitol Security Officials Resign

Three top officials responsible for protecting the U.S. Capitol and congressional chambers all resigned on Thursday, amid calls for heads to roll after the building was stormed by a mob of angry Trump supporters the day before.

First to go was House sergeant-at-arms Paul Irving, whose resignation was announced by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) at her weekly news conference. The speaker also called for Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund to resign, criticizing the top cop for a “failure of leadership.” . . .

The AP also reported that three days prior to the protest, U.S. Capitol police turned down an offer from the Pentagon to send National Guard troops to assist in keeping the Capitol grounds secure. The department also turned down the Justice Department’s initial offer to send FBI agents on Wednesday as the building was being swarmed.

Capitol police also faced heavy criticism Wednesday when video circulating online showed officers appearing to allow outside barrier gates to open for protesters demanding to enter the premises. TheBlaze made repeated requests seeking comment on the footage Wednesday evening, but never received a response. (Read more from “U.S. Capitol Security Officials Resign” HERE)

Man With a History of Organizing Violent Antifa, BLM Protests, Was Inside the Capitol

. . .A young man named John Sullivan was there. He’s from Utah and the founder of “Insurgence USA,” which is a group dedicated to “racial justice and police reform.” According to numerous news reports, he has a history of organizing leftist protests and identifies with Black Lives Matter.

Over the summer, Sullivan was arrested after organizing a violent riot in Utah that ended with a shooting. One of the host groups was the Salt Lake Antifascist [Antifa] Coalition. From Deseret News:

One of the organizers of a protest in Provo that resulted in a motorist being shot was arrested on Thursday.

John Earle Sullivan, 25, of Sandy, was booked into the Utah County Jail for investigation of rioting, making a threat of violence and criminal mischief.

“As a protest organizer John Sullivan is heard and seen as he is promoting protesters to block roadways, keeping motorists from traveling lawfully and freely.”
