Fired USA Today Editor Deflects From Wrongdoing, Alleges ‘White Supremacy’

A USA Today “race and inclusion” editor was fired this week for using her professional Twitter account to report flagrant disinformation in the wake of a mass shooting. In response, she wrote a lengthy Medium post that briefly admitted “regret” for her “careless error in judgement” but focused mostly on how the corporate press is allegedly “subservient to white authority.”

In the wake of the mass shooting in Boulder, Colo., Hemal Jhaveri exchanged tweets with Deadspin senior editor Julie DiCaro.

“Extremely tired of people’s lives depending on whether a white man with an AR-15 is having a good day or not,” DiCaro wrote. Jhaveri replied, “it’s always an angry white man. always.” . . .

Jhaveri complained of a double standard, claiming on Medium, “White USA TODAY reporters have been able to minimize racialized people in print, our white Editor-In-Chief was thoughtless about black face, and a senior politics editor (also white) showed disregard for journalistic ethics by hosting a tax payer funded reception for Trump appointees. All kept their jobs.”

“Sending one wrong tweet that ended up in the hands of Sean Hannity on Fox News though, was enough for this publication to turn tail,” she added. “So many newsrooms claim to value diverse voices, yet when it comes to backing them up, or looking deeper into how white supremacy permeates their own newsrooms, they quickly retreat.” (Read more from “Fired USA Today Editor Deflects From Wrongdoing, Alleges ‘White Supremacy’” HERE)

Teacher Union Leader Says ‘White Supremacy’ Fuels Reopening Efforts

The leader of a teachers union in Washington state is facing criticism after he said that reopening efforts are fueled by “white supremacy” and concerns over lockdown suicides were “white privilege.”

Scott Wilson, the president of the Pasco Association of Educators, made the comments during a Jan. 12 school board meeting, according to the Tri-City Herald.

“We must not ignore the culture of white supremacy and white privilege. We have seen it in the ‘free to breathe,’ reopen everything, rodeos and rallies that received county commissioner support. The same county commissioner directs our health,” Wilson said.

“No one wants remote learning, but it is the right thing to do. We know the equity concerns, virus transmission is high, heading higher, with so many ignoring and avoiding measures to stop the spread, remote learning is the right decision,” he added. . .

“They complain their students are suicidal without school or sports,” said Wilson. “As a father daily surviving the suicide of my son, I find these statements ignorant and another expression of white privilege. Huge daily death tolls from this pandemic, seditious attacks on our Capitol, plus a new, more transmittable strain of the virus while our case numbers are rising again.” (Read more from “Teacher Union Leader Says ‘White Supremacy’ Fuels Reopening Efforts” HERE)

Alleged White Supremacist Plot To Attack U.S. Power Stations Revealed

An alleged plot by white supremacists to attack power stations in the southeastern US next summer was brought to light on Tuesday.

The scheme was detailed in an FBI affidavit mistakenly unsealed last week, The Associated Press reported.

The documents were originally filed under seal, along with a search warrant, in Wisconsin federal court in March, according to the AP.

They alleged that an Ohio teenager with a fondness for Nazi flags discussed the plan — which he dubbed “Light’s Out” — with a small group of people over text in the fall of 2019.

The then-17-year-old said he wanted to create a power outage by shooting rifle rounds into power stations, and there were plans to carry it out next summer, the affidavit states. (Read more from “Alleged White Supremacist Plot To Attack U.S. Power Stations Revealed” HERE)

President Trump Debates Biased Town Hall Moderator, Denounces White Supremacy, Again

By Breitbart. President Donald Trump on Thursday, during a town hall in Miami with NBC News, denounced white supremacy yet again.

Savannah Guthrie, the moderator of the town hall, asked the president why he hesitated to denounce white supremacy in the first presidential debate.

“You always do this,” Trump replied. “You’ve done this to me, everybody … I denounced white supremacy.”

Amid some crosstalk with Guthrie, Trump repeated, “I denounced white supremacy for years, but you always start off with the question.” . . .

“I denounce white supremacy, what’s your next question?” he replied. (Read more from “President Trump Denounces White Supremacy, Again” HERE)

Biased Moderator Loses Debate to Trump

By Dan Gainor. “Today” show anchor Savannah Guthrie was supposed to be the moderator at an event where the president would take questions from citizens in the audience. Instead, she hogged the time and peppered Trump with numerous questions about his personal health that few Americans could answer as specifically as she demanded.

It wasn’t a town hall, it was a debate. Except instead of Trump debating Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden, as originally planned, Trump had to debate Guthrie.

And the winner of the debate, hands down, was Trump.

Guthrie harassed Trump about masks and about holding White House events during the coronavirus pandemic. . . . It took 20 minutes into the hour-long event before Guthrie even let the audience chime in. Even once the actual town hall portion of the program got going, Guthrie ripped it back to push her own agenda — talking about Trump’s taxes.

In another confrontation, Guthrie openly told Trump he was wrong … for his opinion.

Editor’s note: compare Trump’s hostile treatment by NBC to Biden’s softball town hall with ex-Clinton staffer Stephanopoulos HERE.

Vanderbilt Professor Docks Student For Not Agreeing That The Constitution Is White Supremacist

A student at Vanderbilt University was docked points on a quiz Tuesday for rejecting the statement that “the Constitution [was] designed to perpetuate white supremacy and protect the institution of slavery,” according to screenshots of the quiz result.

According to Kara Zupkus of the Young America’s Foundation (YAF), the required quiz was part of a class on the 2020 U.S. elections taught by university professors Josh Clinton, Eunji Kim, Dean John Geer, and Jon Meacham, the same Jon Meacham who spoke on behalf of former Vice President Joe Biden at Democrats’ virtual convention just two weeks ago.

According to YAF, the class syllabus deems the course “the largest class that Vanderbilt has ever taught.” (Read more from “Vanderbilt Professor Docks Student for Not Agreeing That the Constitution Is White Supremacist” HERE)

No, Senate Apportionment Is Not White Supremacy

This week the Atlantic ran an article by Eric Orts, arguing for a major change in how seats to the U.S. Senate are apportioned. Like many others, he believes that small states have too much power in our legislative upper body. This idea floats around a lot, especially when Republicans control the Senate. Instead, he would give every state one senator to start with, then apportion the rest based on population. California, for example, would have 12, while Rhode Island would have 1.

Let’s set aside the broad arguments about this issue, such as the fact that limiting the power of the larger, more powerful states was a feature, not a bug of the U.S. Constitution, and that in all likelihood the plan Orts lays out violates that document. Charles Cooke has a good takedown in National Review Online that is worth reading. . .

I’d like to investigate just one of the claims Orts makes. In the essay, he contends that the Senate’s two per state apportionment is a “vehicle entrenching white supremacy.” His argument is that because most small states are predominantly white, white voters are being overrepresented. He views this not only as an example of white supremacy, but one that works to ensure the permanence of white supremacy. But is that true? . . .

Unfortunately, the assumption underlying Orts’ argument is an ugly one. His claim only works if it is true that, either consciously or unconsciously, white voters favor politicians and programs that are better for white people and that this preference for white supremacy is an essential element in how they vote. If this were true, however, wouldn’t we see white voters overwhelmingly flock to the political party that best supported these supposedly white supremacist policies?

In fact, we see exactly the opposite. According to Pew, 33 percent of whites are Republicans, 26 percent are Democrats, and 37 percent are Independents. If white people really are voting based on the interests of their racial group, they certainly can’t seem to agree what positions and policies best advance them. Apparently white voters in tiny Delaware, who elected Democrats Chris Coons and Tom Carper, have very different ideas about what is best for white people than do those in Wyoming, who elected Republicans John Barrasso and Mike Enzi. Kid Claims White Supremacists Beat Him, Held Him at Gunpoint. Then Cops Take a Closer Look.

By The Blaze. Zavion Parker, 13, claimed he was grabbed by white supremacists — an adult and four younger males — after stepping off his school bus one day last month, after which he said they robbed, beat and held him at gunpoint at a property until he was able to escape.

And Parker said it was all because of his race. . .

But following a thorough investigation, Houston police are saying there’s no evidence to support the teen’s claims, KTRK-TV reported.

Police told the station the events as described did not occur and that the property Parker described had nothing to do with any crime.

Investigators have met with Parker’s mother, Michelle Lee, and community activists to tell them their findings, KTRK reported. (Read more from “Kid Claims White Supremacists Beat Him, Held Him at Gunpoint. Then Cops Take a Closer Look.” HERE)

Houston Police: Teen’s Story About Being Abducted by White Supremacists Wasn’t True

By ABC 13. . .We first brought you this story last month when 13-year-old Zavion Parker claimed he was grabbed by an adult and four young men after stepping off his school bus.

Zavion alleges he was robbed and beaten, all because of his race. He also said he was held at a property at gunpoint until he was able to escape.

Michelle Lee, the teen’s mother, told Eyewitness News her son managed to escape the gun-wielding kidnappers.

“The reason why they got him was because they said he was black. ‘You deserve to die.’ Exactly his words,” Lee told ABC13 in May. “Saying the dad had, like, a white muscle shirt on, and you could see it, was right here big as day. ‘I hate black people.'”

But after a thorough investigation, the Houston Police Department now says the events as described did not occur, that the property Parker described had nothing to do with any crime. (Read more from “Houston Police: Teen’s Story About Being Abducted by White Supremacists Wasn’t True” HERE)

Professor Creates Checklist for Detecting White Supremacy

An English professor at Linfield College has developed a checklist that is intended to help individuals determine whether they are white supremacists.

In a Friday op-ed for Inside Higher Ed, professor Reshmi Dutt-Ballerstadt explains that after many years of contemplation, she “created a list of qualities and attributes of those that overtly or covertly support or contribute to a culture of mundane and everyday white supremacy within our institutions.”

The academic then goes on to outline 15 of her core “troubles” that she “identified to help others in academe recognize your (un)conscious contributions to white supremacy.”

The first item on the lengthy list of transgressions is working “in a position of power in a predominantly white institution” and doing nothing “to change the white supremacist power structures within your departments, committees and institutional decision-making process.”

Likewise, another sign of aiding white supremacy is thinking that marginalized colleagues who complain about oppressive work conditions are “difficult,” and saying “I am so sorry. This is unbelievable” to colleagues and students who claim “that they experienced microaggressions,” Dutt-Ballerstadt claims.
