Cruz: We Will Accept Refugees as Long As… [+video]

“If I’m elected president, we will not let in refugees from countries controlled by ISIS or Al Qaida,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) said at Thursday’s night’s debate in South Carolina.

Although Cruz was the first candidate to be asked about refugees, all of the candidates weighed in, and their responses are included below.

Cruz said he understands why Donald Trump called for a ban on all Muslim immigrants “until we can figure out what’s going on,” as Trump put it.

“You know, I understand why Donald made the comments he did, and I understand why Americans are feeling frustrated and scared and angry when we have a president who refuses to acknowledge the threat we face and even worse, who acts as an apologist for radical Islamic terrorism” . . .

“If I’m elected president, we will not let in refugees from countries controlled by ISIS or Al Qaida. When it comes to ISIS, we will not weaken them, we will not degrade them, we will utterly and completely destroy ISIS,” Cruz concluded. This Is Google’s Top Search (Hint: It’s About Hillary Clinton)

By Hadas Gold. Two of the top searched questions on Google for Hillary Clinton are likely not about the themes her campaign hopes to highlight.

“Will Hillary Clinton get prosecuted?” is most searched question on Google ahead of the Democratic debate on Sunday night. “Will Hillary Clinton win the nomination?” is second and “What did Hillary Clinton do that is illegal?” is the third.

For Sanders, the top question is much more positive. “Why is Bernie Sanders so popular?” followed by “Can Bernie Sanders win?” and “How old is Presidential candidate Bernie Sanders?” (Read more from “This Is Google’s Top Search (Hint: It’s About Hillary Clinton)” HERE)

Many ‘Lost’ Voters Say They Have Found Their Candidate in Trump

Ted Wade hasn’t cared about politics enough to cast a vote in a U.S. presidential election for almost a quarter of a century, back when he supported Ross Perot’s independent candidacy in 1992.

But Republican Donald Trump’s 2016 White House bid has motivated Wade to get involved and he plans to support the real estate mogul in Nevada’s nominating caucus next month. Trump is a “non-politician” who can fix the “chaos” in Washington, he says.

About one in 10 Americans who plan to cast a vote this election will do so for the first time in years, if ever, and Trump holds a decided edge with them, according to polling by Reuters/Ipsos.

These voters offer Trump a pool of voters who could be decisive either in the Republican primaries or a general election. They could be crucial for Trump in early-voting states such as Iowa and South Carolina, where his nearest rival, Senator Ted Cruz, is putting pressure on Trump and enjoys a strong base of support with more traditionally conservative voters.

In Reuters/Ipsos polling from June to December 2015, 27.3 percent of these “new” voters said they would vote for Trump, higher than his poll numbers among independents and Republicans who regularly vote. (Read more from “Many ‘Lost’ Voters Say They Have Found Their Candidate in Trump” HERE)

Yes, Hillary’s Still the Inevitable Democratic Nominee

By David Catanese. The Associated Press has just called the Granite State Democratic primary for Bernie Sanders – and it’s a 15-point rout. It’s the second loss for Hillary Clinton in the presidential nominating contest after she narrowly dropped the Iowa caucuses to Sanders seven days prior.

Sanders’ crowd is beside themselves. The commentators on cable news are fanning doomsday scenarios. There are calls for a Clinton campaign leadership shake-up not only from talking heads, but from longtime family loyalists as well. Is it happening again? Could Clinton be upended in the Democratic primary for the second time in eight years?

This scenario is hypothetical. But given the polling that’s dribbled out over the last week, it now looks far from implausible. Sanders appears to be padding a lead in New Hampshire while beginning to threaten Clinton in Iowa – two polls even showed him tracking narrowly ahead in the first caucus state. The Vermont senator is also closing the national gap, slicing Clinton’s advantage to just 7 points in a new CBS/New York Times survey.

So if Clinton drops the first pair of early states to Sanders, is she cooked?

Not even close. (Read more from “Yes, Hillary’s Still the Inevitable Democratic Nominee” HERE)

NBC’s Todd to Hillary Clinton: ‘43% of Likely Democratic Caucus Goers Identify as Socialist’

By CNSNews.com Staff. On NBC’s “Meet the Press” today, anchor Chuck Todd asked former Secretary State Hillary Clinton about a Bloomberg Politics/Des Moines Register poll in which 43 percent of likely Iowa Democratic caucus goers described themselves as “socialist” while only 38 percent described themselves as “capitalist” . . .

Here is the exchange Todd and Clinton had about the result that indicated 43 percent of likely Democratic caucus goers described themselves as “socialist:”

Chuck Todd: “You know, another problem you may be having in Iowa is that you don’t ideologically fit. This was in the Des Moines Register poll this week: 43 percent of likely Democratic caucus goers identify as socialist. Only 38 percent of likely Democratic caucus goers identified themselves as a capitalist. You, in the last debate, said you were a capitalist. Bernie Sanders calls himself a Democratic socialist. If you don`t win Iowa, do you think that`s the reason?

Hillary Clinton: “Oh, I don’t know how people take all this information, but I support a free market economy. I support the competitiveness that has created the greatest economic engine in the history of the world. What I’m worried about is that it’s not continuing to do what it used to do, which is to give the vast majority of Americans the chance to get ahead and stay ahead.

Rand Paul Supporters Just Sent Him a Major Warning: ‘Don’t Skip…’

With the next Republican presidential primary debate around the corner, Rand Paul’s supporters are nervous he will hurt his chances by boycotting that event, as he did the last one, if he again doesn’t qualify for the main stage.

“Skipping the undercard debate, he got a lot of free press doing that, but I think it only works once,” State Rep. Keith Ammon, R-New Boston, told the Washington Examiner shortly before Paul took the stage at a town hall in Ammon’s district.

Ammon and his colleague, Rep. Eric Eastman, R-Nashua, both endorsed Paul early and expressed confident in his ground operation in New Hampshire. But the two state legislators suggested that skipping the next GOP debate, the final one before voting kicks off with the Iowa caucuses, could backfire for the already low-polling candidate.

Paul wouldn’t be rewarded with “the same attention” if he pulls the move a second time around, Ammon said.

Indeed, it would be difficult for the senator to draw a similar amount of publicity for the same stunt. After Paul announced his decision to skip the undercard debate, he was invited to appear on “The Dr. Oz Show,” “The Daily Show” and other cable news and talk radio programs. US to Pay Iran $1.7 Billion in Debt and Interest: Kerry

The United States is to repay Iran a $400 million debt and $1.3 billion in interest dating to the Islamic revolution, Secretary of State John Kerry said Sunday.

The repayment, which settles a suit brought under an international legal tribunal, is separate from the tens of billions of dollars in frozen foreign accounts that Iran can now access after the end of nuclear sanctions.

But the timing of the announcement, one day after the implementation of the Iran nuclear accord, will be seen as pointing to a broader clearing of the decks between the old foes.

US President Barack Obama defended the settlement in a televised statement from the White House, saying it was for “much less than the amount Iran sought.”

“For the United States, the settlement could save us billions of dollars that could have been pursued by Iran. There was no benefit to the United States in dragging this out,” he said. (Read more from “US to Pay Iran $1.7 Billion in Debt and Interest: Kerry” HERE)

Czech Leader: Muslim Integration ‘Practically Impossible’ in Europe

Czech President Milos Zeman, known for his fiery anti-migrant rhetoric, said on Sunday it was “practically impossible” to integrate the Muslim community into European society.

“The experience of Western European countries which have ghettos and excluded localities shows that the integration of the Muslim community is practically impossible,” Zeman said in a televised interview.

“Let them have their culture in their countries and not take it to Europe, otherwise it will end up like Cologne,” he added, referring to the mass New Year’s Eve assaults on women in Germany and elsewhere.

“Integration is possible with cultures that are similar, and the similarities may vary,” pointing out that the Vietnamese and Ukrainian communities had been able to integrate into Czech society.

Zeman, a 71-year-old leftwinger and the first-ever directly elected president of the Czech Republic, has repeatedly spoken out against the surge of migrant and refugee arrivals in Europe. (Read more from “Czech Leader: Muslim Integration ‘Practically Impossible’ in Europe” HERE)

’13 Hours’ Book Author Defends Pivotal ‘Stand Down’ Scene

“Stand down,” says the actor playing the CIA station chief in Michael Bay’s new film, “13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi.” He’s speaking to the security team that wants to go help Americans under siege less than a mile away in a U.S. diplomatic compound under fierce attack. His order keeps the team from leaving for a crucial 20 minutes, before they decide to ignore him and go anyway.

It’s the pivotal — and most controversial — scene in the new film, a movie that Bay insists steers clear of politics, but which is bound to spark much political discussion nonetheless. On Friday — the movie’s opening day — the Washington Post quoted the now-retired CIA station chief, identified only as Bob, as strongly denying he ever issued such an order or anything like it.

“There never was a stand-down order,” the base chief was quoted by the Post as saying. “At no time did I ever second-guess that the team would depart.” (Read more from “’13 Hours’ Book Author Defends Pivotal ‘Stand Down’ Scene” HERE)

So, Is Sean Penn Really a CIA Agent? Body Language Expert Reveals the Truth Behind El Chapo Interview

By Regina F. Graham. Since it was revealed that Sean Penn secretly traveled to Mexico to interview Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán Loera for Rolling Stone, the actor has insisted that he had nothing to do with the drug kingpin’s recapture.

Speaking to CBS 60 Minutes’ Charlie Rose, Penn said his intention in tracking down the escaped drug kingpin and writing about him for Rolling Stone was to kick-start a discussion of the US government’s policy on the War on Drugs.

But the public’s attention has instead been focused on the fact that Penn found and met with Guzman for seven hours in a mountain hideout last October while he was still evading Mexican officials . . .

Susan Constantine, a body language expert, analyzed Penn’s interview with Rose for Radar Online to see if the two-time Oscar winning actor is just trying to cover his tracks.

She explained that throughout the interview, Penn appears to be very passionate and emotional and that she doesn’t think it was an act. (Read more from “So, Is Sean Penn Really a CIA Agent? Body Language Expert Reveals the Truth Behind El Chapo Interview” HERE)

How Mexico Secretly Launched a Crackdown After Penn Met ‘El Chapo’

By Joshua Partlow. Four days after Sean Penn met with Joaquín “El Chapo” Guzmán last October, Mexican marine helicopters swooped in on the drug lord’s hideout atop a pine-studded peak in the Sierra Madre mountains.

Amid the barrage of gunfire aimed at the collection of four houses known as El Limón, Guzmán was able to make another unlikely escape. But the residents who live scattered in the forests below weren’t so lucky.

Starting that morning, local farmers said, the marines went on a shooting and looting spree that appeared like an act of collective punishment. The marines peppered homes and trucks with bullets, set fire to four-wheelers and stole money, jewelry, blankets and clothes, residents said. The military hemmed in villages, prohibiting people from leaving their homes for up to five days in their ferocious search for Guzmán, according to interviews over four days with residents in the tiny mountain villages. As many as 250 families, nearly 1,000 people, fled the mountains in search of safety, arriving in the nearest city, Cosala, starting Oct. 9, according to the municipal government’s welfare office.

“This did not seem like the Mexican government,” said Maria del Carmen Verenice, a 47-year-old housewife, who added that she crouched in a ditch while shots were fired on the village from helicopters, then spent the next two days hiding in the woods. “This was a terrorist government.”

The Mexican government discounted the allegations against the marines, saying they were unfounded. A Mexican official said the trafficker manipulates his followers to make such claims in order to keep the military out of this drug-producing region of Durango state. “In this moment I have no knowledge that there has been one person” displaced, the official said, speaking on the condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly. Rhode Island City Official Resigns After Having a Man Dress up in DRAG [+video]

A senior services official in Rhode Island has resigned over a bizarre ‘Mrs Doubtfire’-inspired PR stunt involving a middle-aged man disguised as an old lady.

Sue Stenhouse, director of senior services in the City of Cranston, organized a news conference last Tuesday to announce the launch of the Snow Angels program, which encourages local teenagers to help elderly residents during the cold winter months by shoveling driveways and pathways.

The event was attended by the mayor of Cranston, a group of beaming high school students armed with colorful shovels, and what at first glance appeared to be an elderly woman with a name tag that read ‘Cranston Senior Home Resident.’

It has since emerged that the ruddy-cheeked, curly-haired lady wearing pink lipstick and matching clip-on earrings was, in fact, a male van driver by the name David Roberts.

The station WJAR-TV, which aired the original press conference last week, uncovered the ruse in reports this week. (Read more from “Rhode Island City Official Resigns After Having a Man Dress up in DRAG” HERE)
