Cruz Fires Top Campaign Spokesman Over Rubio Bible Video

By Fox News. Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Monday he’s fired campaign communications director Rick Tyler, after his top spokesman promoted a video that wrongly depicted Florida Sen. Marco Rubio as trash-talking the Bible.

The Texas senator announced that he’s asked for the resignation at a press conference Monday afternoon.

“We are not a campaign that is going to question the faith of another candidate. Even if it was true, our campaign should not have sent it. That’s why I’ve asked for Rick Tyler’s resignation,” Cruz said in Nevada, ahead of the state’s GOP caucuses on Tuesday. “The standards of conduct in this campaign have been made absolutely clear.”

Tyler originally had linked to a story showing a video of Rubio walking by a Cruz staffer and Cruz’s father Rafael, who were reading the Bible in a hotel lobby. The original subtitles on the video showed Rubio saying to the staffer, “Got a good book there, not many answers in it.”

But after Tyler linked to the story, Rubio communications director Alex Conant tweeted out the same video with what he says are the correct subtitles — and they tell a very different story. (Read more from “Cruz Fires Top Campaign Spokesman Over Rubio Bible Video” HERE)

Cruz Campaign Memo Trashes Rubio

By Ryan Lovelace. A memo from Texas Sen. Ted Cruz’s chief strategist trashes Florida Sen. Marco Rubio’s presidential bid.

Under the headline, “Ted Cruz is the only candidate who can defeat Trump,” Jason Johnson, Cruz’s chief strategist, made a case against Rubio.

“Marco Rubio cannot beat Trump,” Johnson wrote. “Trump can’t be beaten from the political Left, with a candidate who emphatically supports amnesty and who allows Trump to be considered the “conservative” in that context.”

Johnson argues that Rubio has failed to detail a successful strategy after the first three nominating states have cast their ballots. (Read more from “Cruz Campaign Memo Trashes Rubio” HERE)

Law Enforcement Sides With Chris Crane After Rubio’s Anti-ICE Tirade

Law enforcement are vocally backing Immigration and Customs Enforcement Council President Chris Crane following Sen. Marco Rubio’s apparent attempt to discredit Crane, an ICE officer of 13 years and U.S. veteran.

Crane has been described by Senator Sen. Jeff Sessions, a renowned leader in the conservative nation-state movement, as “an American hero” for blowing the whistle on immigration corruption.

Following an exclusive interview with Breitbart News in which Crane detailed how law enforcement was treated “like absolute trash” by Sen. Rubio during his effort to ram the Gang of Eight amnesty bill through the Senate, Rubio took to national television to denounce Crane and his service to his country.

“He’s not an ICE official. He’s the head of a union,” Rubio declared on Fox News when asked about the criticism leveled by Crane. “That individual is not an ICE official; he’s the head of a union,” Rubio responded.

Prominent sheriffs throughout the country, however, have rushed to Crane’s aide–praising him for his “courage to tell the truth amidst attacks.” (Read more from “Law Enforcement Sides With Chris Crane After Rubio’s Anti-ICE Tirade” HERE)

Federal Judge Forcing Christian Crisis Pregnancy Centers Violate Conscience, Advocate for Abortion

A federal judge refused to grant a preliminary injunction on Feb. 12 against a California law that forces pro-life pregnancy centers to advocate for abortion.

…Judge John A. Houston refused to put the law on hold while the lawsuit proceeds, becoming the third federal judge to do so. He indicated during the hearing that he thought the required information was necessary for women to make “an informed decision.”

California’s “Reproductive Fact Act” took effect Jan. 1. It requires licensed, religious, pregnancy resource centers to inform women, with either posted signage or a handout, that the state offers free abortions for qualifying women. It specifies the inclusion of a phone number for a county social services office that offers free abortions through the state’s Medi-Cal healthcare system. The law mandates the time of distribution and the font size for the signs and handouts. It also requires unlicensed centers to inform visitors that they are not state-approved.

The state currently has 150 local crisis pregnancy centers affected by the law…

“We cannot allow this intrusion into the religious freedom of our pro-life members in California,” said Anne O’Connor, president of legal affairs at [The National Institute of Family and Life Advocates]. “If this act is not successfully challenged, then other states, prompted by Planned Parenthood and the abortion industry, will pass similar legislation forcing pro-life pregnancy centers to become abortion referral agencies.” (Read more from “Federal Judge Forcing Christian Crisis Pregnancy Centers Violate Conscience, Advocate for Abortion” HERE)

Almost 90,000 Dangerous Illegal Aliens Go Free

Nearly 60 percent of illegal immigrants identified by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement as criminal threats are not deported and are eventually released, the latest example of the Obama administration’s failed immigration policy.

Internal ICE figures show that in fiscal 2015, the agency encountered 152,393 illegal immigrants labeled a criminal threat, mostly in jails, but charged 64,116. About another 88,000 were not processed for deportation, according to the Center for Immigration Studies’ Jessica Vaughan . . .

Under Obama’s recently announced Priority Enforcement Program, officials work with local police to arrest and deport criminal immigrants. In reality, that amounts to a phone call from ICE requesting local authorities hold the suspect for 48 hours after they’re set to be freed . . .

Richard W. Stanek, sheriff of Hennepin County in Minneapolis, said he had 75 illegals ICE wanted, but the agency only picked up about 35 percent. “And these are people that they want,” he told the Washington Examiner . . .

It’s become a huge issue for local police. Benton said she wants to help ICE and hold illegal immigrants longer, but can’t legally. Often the result is more crime from the suspect and questions about why her department’s jail frees them. (Read more from “Almost 90,000 Dangerous Illegal Aliens Go Free” HERE)

Chick-Fil-A Flap Rocks Another American University

The war on poultry rages on yet another public university campus – this time at the University of Nebraska – Kearney.

The hullabaloo started last January when students were asked to select a new dining option for the student union. Their choices included Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, IHOP, A&W and Sbarro.

The youngsters chose Chick-fil-A – in a landslide. I mean, who doesn’t love a plump juicy chicken breast tucked between hot, buttered buns?

However, it turns out majority does not rule at the University of Nebraska – Kearney. A vocal minority pitched a fit and demanded that Chick-fil-A be banished from campus . . .

“We only hope to create dialogue on the importance of being aware to issues facing diverse and minority students,” QSA president Tiff Weekley told the Kearney Hub. “Though majority voices are most often heard, it is important to listen to what issues are facing all students and to start conversations around those.” (Read more from “Chick-Fil-A Flap Rocks Another American University” HERE)

NASA Reports Huge Explosion of Seven Meter Space Rock Over the Atlantic

Photo Credit: Andrezej Wojcicki/Science Photo A huge fireball crashed into the Atlantic earlier this month – and went almost unseen.

The event took place on February 6 at 14:00 UTC when a meteor exploded in the air 620 miles (1,000km) off the coast of Brazil.

It released energy equivalent to 13,000 tons of TNT, which is the same as the energy used in the first atomic weapon that leveled Hiroshima in 1945.

This was the largest event of its type since the February 2013 fireball that exploded over Chelyabinsk, Russia, leaving more than 1,600 people injured . . .

That fireball measured 18 meters across and screamed into Earth’s atmosphere at 41,600 mph. Much of the debris landed in a local lake called Chebarkul. (Read more from “Nasa Reports Huge Explosion of Seven Meter Space Rock Over the Atlantic” HERE)

Libs Are Losing It Over a Question Trump Asked About Obama Skipping Scalia’s Funeral

By Jack Davis. Donald Trump took to his favorite form of social media Saturday morning and once again lit fires across the Twittersphere.

In his first comment on the fact that President Obama did not attend Saturday’s funeral for Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia, Trump sided with those who believe Obama should have attended and — as he often does — took the argument a step further.

“I wonder if President Obama would have attended the funeral of Justice Scalia if it were held in a Mosque? Very sad that he did not go!,” Trump tweeted . . .

Trump’s comments sent fingers flying across keyboards in response.

“Donald Trump just can’t stop making implications about President Obama’s religion,” scolded Josh Feldman on Mediaite. “Yes, during Justice Antonin Scalia’s funeral, Trump finally decided to jump in on the criticism of Obama’s decision not to attend with some Muslim-baiting.”

“Did Trump just say what everyone was thinking…again?,” wrote jason on The Hill. “Not a big Trump fan…but he NAILED IT. Obama not being at the Funeral is disgraceful.” (Read more from “Libs Are Losing It Over a Question Trump Asked About Obama Skipping Scalia’s Funeral” HERE)

Washington Pauses for Justice Antonin Scalia’s Funeral

By Peter Baker and Gardiner Harris. With pageantry, spirituality and a touch of his own trademark humor, Justice Antonin Scalia was honored on Saturday as a capital riven by his death briefly set down its political weapons to mourn what his son called “the country’s good servant.”

The nation’s leaders, including justices, judges, lawmakers, current and former vice presidents and a presidential candidate, gathered for a mostly solemn two-hour funeral Mass. The longest-serving member of the current Supreme Court, Justice Scalia died at age 79 last weekend at a Texas ranch after nearly 30 years on the highest bench.

The funeral, only the second for a sitting justice in more than 60 years, was one of those ritual Washington moments when the perpetual struggle at the intersection of law and politics is briefly suspended to honor one of the capital’s most celebrated and cheerfully controversial gladiators. Justice Scalia, who relished a vigorous debate, would hardly be surprised by the fierce battle that has erupted over his now-vacant seat, but his admirers hoped to focus for a few hours at least on his powerful legacy. Ben Carson’s Campaign Denies Reports That He Will End Presidential Run After Nevada

Carson’s campaign denied a claim by a Daily Beast reporter who tweeted that the retired neurosurgeon plans to suspend his campaign after Nevada, out of courtesy to his Nevada staffers.

“There have been only three contests out of 56 so far; with the amount of grassroots and financial support, Dr. Carson still has a story to tell and will keep taking his message to ‘We the People,’” a senior Carson campaign official told TheBlaze Sunday night. “In addition to large, enthusiastic crowds, Dr. Carson has many people pledging their continued support and pleading with him to stay in the race, as his alternative voice for representative government, not D.C. politics as usual, needs to be heard.”

The official said that he’s reached out to the Daily Beast reporter to inform him that his tweet is not indicative of the campaign’s plans.

Trump Won With ‘Falwell Factor’ in South Carolina

Donald Trump owes Jerry Falwell Jr. a big fat wet kiss.

Trump’s big win Saturday night falls largely on the shoulders of the son of the late great Jerry Falwell Sr.

After New Hampshire, I wrote Trump would “march South” triumphant, leaving that moderate, independent-leaning New England state and do surprising well in conservative, evangelical South Carolina.

There were some doubters. Cruz had done exceptionally well in Iowa, due to the evangelical voters.

But Falwell, a Southern Baptist, and his Liberty University, the South’s leading evangelical university, would weigh more significantly with evangelical voters in the Palmetto State, I argued.

And the exit polls prove that Trump won South Carolina because of a seismic shift of evangelical voters away from Cruz to the billionaire. (Read more from “Trump Won With ‘Falwell Factor’ in South Carolina” HERE)

Alleged Terrorist’s Strange Surveillance Video Has Authorities Thinking the Worst

Belgian authorities fear the Islamic State’s next move after obtaining hours of surveillance footage of a senior nuclear official at the apartment of an alleged terrorist.

Belgian newspaper La Dernière Heure Wednesday reported that the footage was found in a raid of Mohamed Bakkali’s Brussels apartment. Bakkali is held on charges of terrorist activity and murder for his alleged involvement in the Nov. 13 Paris attacks, which took 130 lives . . .

Edwin Lyman, senior scientist at the Union of Concerned Scientists, told The Daily Caller News Foundation that an attack on a nuclear power plant could have catastrophic consequences, but also, thankfully, require extensive knowledge of the target.

“A terrorist attack on a nuclear power plant could conceivably result in an event as catastrophic as a severe accident like Chernobyl or Fukushima,” Lyman told TheDCNF in an emailed statement. “It’s not clear to me what information they could glean from the surveillance of the home of a nuclear official alone, unless they were planning to kidnap him and extract information.”

It wouldn’t be the first time terrorists have considered an attack on a power plant. Several attempts in countries such as Argentina, Russia and South Korea have failed. The 9/11 Commission Report also reported that Al Qaida’s original plan included U.S. power plants.
