Trump Threatens Major Escalation in Trade War With China

Amid continued controversy over his administration’s protectionist trade policies, President Donald Trump this week signaled that he is prepared to significantly expand the existing tariffs on products imported from China.

According to Reuters, he suggested that he is “ready” to impose duty on all of the Chinese goods sold in America.

“We’re down a tremendous amount,” Trump said in a CNBC interview on Friday.

He has frequently cited trade imbalances, particularly with China, as a reason for announcing tariffs.

In his latest remarks, the president said he is “ready to go to 500” with China, an apparent reference to the more than $500 billion in imported goods the U.S. received from that nation last year.

America’s trade deficit with China in 2017 was $376 billion, a trend that has continued into 2018. During the first five months of this year, the U.S. imported more than $200 billion for a trade imbalance of $152 billion.

Though many critics on both sides of the aisle have argued for freer trade policies, Trump has continued to dig in with the position he has endorsed since the campaign.

In addition to creating higher prices for American consumers, many economists have panned the tariffs because of historical evidence that such trade policies have contributed directly to economic catastrophes including the Great Depression.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow said the tariffs and associated rhetoric against China are not likely to end any time soon.

He said Trump is “not going to let go” of his belief that China is taking advantage of the U.S. through trade.

According to Kudlow, Chinese leader Xi Jinping bears the responsibility for leading America to take these steps.

“The problem here is Xi,” he said. “He doesn’t want to move, and they’ve offered the U.S. absolutely … no options regarding the issue of (intellectual property) theft and forced technology transfer.”

After an initial round of tariffs on $34 billion in imports, China retaliated by imposing dollar-for-dollar tariffs on American exports.

In the recent interview, Trump said he is not concerned about possible repercussions including a drop in the stock market.

“If it does, it does,” the president said. “I’m not doing this for politics, I’m doing this to do the right thing for our country.”

Repeating a longstanding refrain, Trump went on to assert that American has “been ripped off by China for a long time.”

He echoed Kudlow’s assessment that China’s president is responsible for inequitable trade between the two nations.

“I don’t want them to be scared,” he said. “I want them to do well. I really like President Xi a lot, but it was very unfair.” (For more from the author of “Trump Threatens Major Escalation in Trade War With China” please click HERE)

Charlotte City Council Member Compared Trump Supporters to Ku Klux Klan

On Friday, the Republican National Committee announced that the 2020 Republican National Convention will be held in Charlotte, N.C. The convention will nominate the GOP’s 2020 presidential and vice-presidential candidates, presumptively President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence, for re-election.

“I am thrilled to announce Charlotte as the official host city for the 2020 Republican National Convention,” RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel said in a press statement. “We look forward to seeing the Queen City take center stage as the Republican Party re-nominates President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence to continue fighting for the American people.”

The decision by the RNC was unanimous, but the deal was approved by the narrowest of margins in the Charlotte City Council. After three and a half hours of debate earlier this week, in which more than 100 speakers were invited to weigh in on the matter, the Council voted 6-5 to approve permitting the city manager to negotiate contracts with the RNC, the Charlotte Observer reported Monday.

A Democratic member, Larken Egleston, cast the deciding vote in favor of hosting the convention but voiced opposition to President Trump.

“I will not combat the disappointing characteristics of this president by emulating them,” Egleston said. “Hosting the RNC in Charlotte in no way implies our endorsement of this president.”

But another Democrat on the council who voted against bringing the RNC to Charlotte denounced Trump as “dangerous” and compared his supporters to the Ku Klux Klan.

“This president is dangerous,” said Justin Harlow. “I’d no sooner bring Donald Trump and the RNC to Charlotte, to the home that I chose and love where my wife and I are raising our black son, any sooner than I would support a Klan rally in this city. The president may not be a Klansman, but some of his supporters are.”

Charlotte’s Democratic Mayor Vi Lyles said leading the effort to bring the RNC to her city was “the most difficult decision of my career.” On Friday, she reacted positively to the RNC’s decision.

She will not, however, deliver a welcoming address for the RNC delegates, eschewing common practice, according to the Observer.

Charlotte was the host city for the 2012 Democratic National Convention that re-nominated President Barack Obama for president.

Disney Fires ‘Guardians’ Director Over Disturbing Pedophilia Tweets

James Gunn, the powerhouse writer/director behind Marvel’s lucrative Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, was fired by the Walt Disney company Friday.

“The offensive attitudes and statements discovered on James’ Twitter feed are indefensible and inconsistent with our studio’s values, and we have severed our business relationship with him,” Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement. . .

According the Hollywood Reporter, a far-left entertainment site, the now-disgraced Gunn had already begun writing the Guardians 3 script. Shooting was scheduled to begin this fall in Atlanta.

While the establishment media and entertainment media all but ignored the story (probably hoping they could save the Trump-hating Gunn), Twitter sleuths online, the Daily Caller, and (to its credit) TheWrap, all dug up and covered explosive tweets written by Gunn over the past decade — tweets that “joked” about committing child rape, along with disparaging jokes about Mexicans, AIDS, the Holocaust, and rape in general.

One of the more disturbing finds was Gunn bragging about a movie titled 100 Pubescent Girls Touch Themselves that he apparently embedded on his personal website. In an apparent panic, Gunn took his website down Thursday night, but the Wayback Machine reveals that he received the video from a man who was later convicted of pedophilia. In the most vulgar way imaginable, Gunn bragged that the movie gave him an orgasm. (Read more from “Disney Fires ‘Guardians’ Director James Gunn Over Disturbing Pedophilia Tweets” HERE)

Hundreds at Vigils Mourn Victims of Missouri Boat Accident

By AP. A Missouri town known for its country shows and entertainment mourned Friday after 17 people — including nine from one family — were killed when a tourist boat sank on churning water in a sudden storm.

The grief-stricken community hosted two separate vigils Friday night. In one, about 300 people gathered in the parking lot of Ride the Ducks of Branson and sang “Amazing Grace.” Mourners at a church sang the same words. . .

Twenty-nine passengers and two crew members were aboard for a pleasure cruise. Seven of the 14 survivors were hurt when the vessel went down. At least two children and two adults were still hospitalized Friday afternoon. The captain survived, authorities said. Missouri Boat Accident Kills 17, Including Nine From One Family

By Reuters. The World War Two-style amphibious vehicle was carrying 31 passengers including children when the sudden “microburst” storm hit Table Rock Lake outside Branson, with waves slowly swamping the vehicle before it sank.

More than three dozen people have died in incidents involving duck boats on land and water in the United States over the past two decades.

Tia Coleman said she and her nephew were the only survivors from 11 members of their family who went on the “Ride The Ducks” tour. . .

She said the captain of the boat told them when they were in the lake not to put their life jackets on, an action she believed cost lives. The crew was warned to get in and out of the lake quickly as a storm was approaching, she said.

The 17 victims were aged between 1 and 70 and came from six U.S. states, authorities said. The included Arkansas residents Steve Smith and his son Lance, their church newspaper said. Smith’s daughter Loren survived. His wife opted not go on the tour, the paper said. (Read more from “Missouri Boat Accident Kills 17, Including Nine From One Family” HERE)

Trump Digs up Classic Video of Hillary Talking About Russia to Make a Point About ‘Fake News’

. . .Short memories seem to be rampant among Democrats. On Thursday, Trump gave them a wake-up call by tweeting a 2010 video from none other than Hillary Clinton.

. . .

In the remarkably Trump-sounding interview, Clinton sounded downright friendly to Russia, and declared that a “strong Russia” would be a good thing for America and our allies. . .

Clearly on the defensive, Clinton quickly responded to Trump on Twitter. “That’s a clip from when Medvedev was president,” she said, implying that working toward a “strong Russia” was somehow fine under its last president but now suddenly horrific under Putin.

She also left out the major fact that Putin was the prime minister of Russia in 2010, the exact time when she made the “strong Russia” comments. The former Soviet nation uses both roles and they each hold significant power. Putin had been president in previous years and his title change to prime minister was largely in name only. . .

Now that a Republican is in the White House, however, liberals have conveniently done a complete 180 on their Russian stance. They apparently think that the American people are too stupid to remember events from a few years ago … or think nobody knows how to find a video. Hillary Calls for ‘Defending Diplomats:’ Blindsided When Benghazi Survivor Brings up Dead Brothers

Most recently, Clinton launched an attack via Twitter on the president with regard to a rumor that had begun to circulate about a potential deal between the U.S. and Russia that would allow for individuals wanted by those nations to be questioned, even as they lived in the opposite nation.

According to The Daily Wire, one of those individuals wanted for questioning by Russia is former U.S. ambassador Michael McFaul, who the Russians accuse of being involved in a financial scam and who Clinton rushed to defend … which opened her up to a counterattack in regard to a different ambassador she failed to defend in the past. . .

That particular message calling out the White House for failing to defend a diplomat didn’t sit particularly well with one of the survivors of the 2012 Benghazi terrorist attack, in which Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others were killed by Libyan militants who attacked a U.S. diplomatic compound and CIA annex.

That survivor was Kris “Tanto” Paronto, a former Special Forces officer and Army Ranger who was one of several private security contractors who fended off repeated waves of attacks from the terrorists at the compound and a CIA annex in Benghazi while the Obama White House and then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did nothing.

. . .

On top of doing nothing for the 13 hours during which the waves of terror assaults raged, Clinton and the Obama White House then worked to downplay and cover up the attack in the aftermath, even going so far as to lie repeatedly to the public about the cause of the attack and their failure to respond to warnings of an imminent attack ahead of time. Rep Digs up Obama Dirt, Uses It to Completely Destroy Trump’s Russia Critics

. . .Since nobody in the mainstream media will do the work, Rep. Steve Scalise — the congressman who miraculously survived an attack on his life last year — reminded the American people of exactly what took place between Russia and the United States during the Obama years.

“President @realDonaldTrump went into this meeting with Putin from a position of American strength to combat Russian aggression, but it’s important to remember how Russia was allowed to get to this point,” Scalise tweeted Monday.

. . .

Scalise started with the year 2009, when then-Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gleefully presented a plastic “reset button” to Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to reset relations with Russia and the United States, as if the gesture undid all the wrongs Russia committed against the U.S. and our allies.

Then, there was March 2012. Obama promised then-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev that he would have more “flexibility” on missile defense after being reelected. . .

During a presidential debate in 2012, candidate Mitt Romney called Russia our top geopolitical foe, only to be mocked by Obama — as well as other Democratic leaders and the media who said Romney’s stance was “outdated” and “a throwback to the Cold War.”

Media Will Have a Hard Time Spinning Trump’s Latest Move That Hurts Russia

A new move by the Trump administration is likely to upset Moscow and will be difficult for the media to spin as being friendly toward Putin as the Pentagon has reportedly sent more money to arm Ukraine.

“In a move likely to irk Moscow, the Pentagon has released $200M in new security assistance to Ukraine days after the Trump-Putin meeting, according to US & Ukrainian officials,” CNN reporter Ryan Browne tweeted. “The funds will go toward counter-artillery radars, vehicles, night vision, comms, & medical equipment.”

. . .

“When you actually look at the substance of what this administration has done, not the rhetoric but the substance, this administration has been much tougher on Russia than any in the post-Cold War era,” said Daniel Vajdich, senior fellow at the Atlantic Council, according to NPR.

Trump has pushed sanctions against Russia which has greatly constrained their economy, kicked dozens of Russian diplomats out of the U.S., armed Ukraine, pushed for NATO member nations to increase defense spending, and killed hundreds of Russian mercenaries in Syria. Former DEA Agent Reveals Where the Profits From This Deadly Drug Go

. . .Derek Maltz [a former DEA special agent], who worked with Project Synergy, which tracked the synthetic drug distribution network and arrested over 225 people in 2012, claims that much of the money from the sale of K2 or Spice gets sent to Yemen to fund AQAP, a division of Al Qaeda.

As LiveScience reported in 2017 when covering a review of studies regarding synthetic marijuana, “Some of the reported side effects of synthetic marijuana compounds include convulsions, kidney injury, toxicity to the heart, strokes and anxiety. So far, 20 deaths have been linked to the use of synthetic marijuana compounds, the researchers said.”

Maltz told WTOP, “We saw mass amounts, in the millions of dollars, going through U.S. banks, back to Yemen, We started identifying some very, very suspicious people in Yemen, who were receiving the money and involved in ATM withdrawals in Yemen.”

Maltz added, “You don’t see a million dollars a week, or 30 million dollars a month leaving the United States to go to Yemen. It’s just very abnormal behavior — Yemen is a very poor country. There’s a lot of recruiting of jihadists in that country, and we also seized videos — martyrdom-style, radical terrorist-style videos that are being pushed out on the internet.” (Read more from “Former DEA Agent Reveals Where the Profits From This Deadly Drug Go” HERE)

Watch: People Hate What Obama and Hillary Did on Russia — Here’s The Catch

By The Daily Caller. TheDC’s Amber Athey and Justin Caruso regularly take to the streets of Washington, D.C. to ask the most important questions in America.

This week, we asked people how they felt about President Trump’s plan to “reset” with Russia and how he promised the Russian president more “flexibility” after the next election, except Trump did none of that–Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton did.

There Was Nothing Remotely Treasonous in Trump’s Performance With Putin

By The Hill. The over-the-top rhetoric about Monday’s Trump-Putin meeting in Helsinki quickly reached the point of complete absurdity — from former CIA director John Brennan (who once voted for the Communist Party’s presidential candidate) decrying Trump’s actions as treasonous and worthy of impeachment, to people equating it with Pearl Harbor or Kristallnacht.

To all such people, spare me the pious hyperbolic sanctimony.

Monday’s press conference with Presidents Trump and Putin was not Trump’s best moment, and there were missed opportunities — but nothing even remotely treasonous or worthy of impeachment. . .

On Tuesday, Trump amended his position in a statement to the press that has him affirming his confidence in his intelligence agencies and agreeing with them that the Russians meddled in our elections. We’ll see if that puts the issue to rest.

While we cannot trust Russia, shouldn’t trust Russia, people should step back, take a deep breath and get some perspective. (Read more from “There Was Nothing Remotely Treasonous in Trump’s Performance With Putin” HERE)
