New York City Subway Shooting: 16 People Injured

Five people have been shot and injured in the New York City subway system Tuesday morning just prior to 8:30 AM, according to emerging reports. . .

CNN reports FDNY spokesperson Amanda Farinacci indicates “Eight people were shot and eight others were injured following a shooting at a Brooklyn subway this morning,”

The New York Post reports police think the attacker set off a “smoke grenade” before discharging the weapon.

The Post notes “at least five people were shot in the third car of the train and others were injured by smoke inhalation. A pregnant woman was among those hospitalized.”

NBC New York identifies the location of the incident as the Brooklyn subway station and notes that “several law enforcement sources said the shooter may have thrown a device before opening fire.” (Read more from “New York City Subway Shooting: 16 People Injured” HERE)

White House Tries to Pass the Buck to Putin as It Warns Inflation Is Getting Even Worse; The Government Could Stop Inflation Within a Year

By New York Post. White House press secretary Jen Psaki admitted Monday that fresh monthly inflation data will be “extraordinarily elevated” when it’s released Tuesday — after inflation hit a 40-year high of 7.9 percent last month.

“We expect March CPI headline inflation to be extraordinarily elevated due to [Russian President Vladimir] Putin’s price hike, and we expect a large difference between core and headline inflation reflecting the global disruptions in energy and food markets,” Psaki said at her regular press briefing.

NPR reporter Asma Khalid pressed Psaki on the White House’s attempt to blame Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, saying she had just returned from a reporting trip to Michigan, where many people told her “they feel that inflation has predated this war.”

“We’ve talked about inflation long before there was an invasion,” Psaki said. “But we also know that factually, if you look at the data, the average gas prices are up 80 cents to $1. It’s about a 25% — we’ve seen — increase in gas prices since the start of this invasion. And we know energy prices is a big driver of the inflation data.”

Inflation is a major liability for Democrats, who control both chambers of Congress and the White House, headed into this year’s midterm elections. (Read more from “White House Tries to Pass the Buck to Putin as It Warns Inflation Is Getting Even Worse” HERE)

The Government Could Stop Inflation Within a Year. Instead, Expect Things to Get Worse

By The Federalist. Know-nothing pundits and politicians have been communicating to Americans that inflation is, like the weather, a mystery they can’t control. That’s simply not true, write three economic commentators in a soon-published book, “Inflation: What It Is, Why It’s Bad, And How to Fix It.” On the contrary: inflation is a direct result of governments cheating their people, and solving it is pretty simple, if politically difficult.

In the book, businessman Steve Forbes, economist Nathan Lewis, and business journalist Elizabeth Ames give laypeople a concise, readable introduction to monetary policy. They also lay out easy-to-understand policy and personal prescriptions for responding to an inflationary economy such as today’s. The book is short and immensely useful for those of us who are not economic experts or finance minds and just want politicians to stop stealing our hard-earned money and endangering our nation’s security.

It would also be useful to members of Congress and other government officials with the authority to address what especially for the poorest Americans is a frightful economic situation. The authors lay out a one-year plan for stopping inflation in its tracks based on historical and international experience.

In the course of explaining what inflation is and how it works, the authors make the important point that it’s not just about money. Inflation is deeply connected to societal flourishing in general. Societies in which inflation is rampant are often unstable, chaotic, and violent.

“Markets are people,” the authors write. “When money is no longer a reliable unit of value, not only trade but social relationships ultimately unravel. Nations afflicted by extreme inflation end up experiencing higher levels of crime, corruption, and social unrest. As we have seen throughout history, the end result can be a tragic turn to strongmen and dictators.”

Trump Releases Major Senate Endorsement In Key Battleground State; ‘Romney 2.0′: Trumpworld Implodes Over Ex-POTUS’ Endorsement

By Daily Caller. Former President Donald Trump announced his support for Dr. Mehmet Oz on Saturday, a key endorsement in the wide-open Pennsylvania Republican Senate primary.

Oz, who hosted The Dr. Oz Show on several stations beginning in 2009, announced his candidacy to replace retiring Republican Sen. Pat Toomey in November. His show ended in January following his declaration. He is polling behind former Bridgewater Associates CEO David McCormick, although recent surveys have shown a tightening race.

“This is all about winning elections in order to stop the Radical Left maniacs from destroying our Country. The Great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania has a tremendous opportunity to Save America by electing the brilliant and well-known Dr. Mehmet Oz for the United States Senate,” Trump said in a statement.

“Perhaps most importantly, I believe that Mehmet Oz will be the one most able to win the General Election against a Radical Left Democrat looking to do unthinkable harm to our Country,” Trump added. “He will do very well in Philadelphia and Pittsburgh, where other candidates will just not be accepted.”

‘Romney 2.0′: Trumpworld Implodes Over Ex-POTUS’ Endorsement

By Talking Points Memo. Shortly after former President Trump announced his endorsement of celebrity doctor Mehmet Oz in the hotly contested Pennsylvania Senate GOP primary, a slew of Trumpworld figures fired up social media with their apparent disapproval of the former president’s new endorsee to replace retiring Sen. Pat Toomey (R-PA). . .

Well before gaining Trump’s endorsement, Oz maintained close ties with the former president since Trump appeared on his show to discuss his health while running for the presidency in 2016. Trump shared what he said were his medical records with the TV doctor, who deemed them “comprehensive.” Oz was later appointed to the Trump administration’s health council. . .

Here’s how some Trumpworld figures imploded upon finding out about Trump’s new endorsement:

MIT Scientists Say They’ve Invented a Treatment That Reverses Hearing Loss

A team of MIT scientists behind the biotech firm Frequency Therapeutics claims to have developed a new type of regenerative therapy that can reverse hearing loss, without the need of hearing aids or cochlear implants.

By programming special kinds of human cells called progenitor cells, the team discovered a new way to encourage the growth of hair cells inside the cochlea.

These hair cells allow us to hear, but they die off over time or when exposed to excess noise. They usually don’t grow back — but allowing the ear to regenerate them could bring back at least some degree of hearing. . .

The treatment works by injecting molecules into the inner ear, which then transform existing progenitor cells into other cells that can grow hair cells inside the cochlea.

The approach is also simpler than conventional gene therapies, which rely on the patient’s own cells, which first need to the reprogrammed in a lab. (Read more from “MIT Scientists Say They’ve Invented a Treatment That Reverses Hearing Loss” HERE)

Majority of People Think They Have Skills to ‘Live off the Land,’ Survey Says

. . .Two-thirds of surveyed Americans are confident they could “live off the land” if all other alternatives had become exhausted.

One-third of the armchair farmers think they could even last over a year self sufficiently, Talker reported.

The survey — which interviewed over 1,000 US rural residents and another thousand from cities and suburbs — also found that two-thirds from both walks of life say they “wouldn’t have any problem” growing their own produce had grocery stores closed nationwide.

Of course, the seemingly least qualified believe they are the cream of the crop when it comes to this newfound spirit of self-assured Americana.

City folks fancy themselves to be the most confident self-sustaining farmhands — 72% of urban and suburbanites told the survey they would be veggie sufficient whereas just 62% of rural residents feel the same. DC Gridiron Dinner: Dozens of Fully Vaccinated, Boosted Attendees Catch COVID at Swanky, Elites’ Event

Rep. Elaine Luria has tested positive for COVID-19, her office announced Sunday — making the Virginia Democrat the latest of more than 70 lawmakers, White House officials and reporters who have contracted the virus following the superspreader Gridiron Club dinner earlier this month.

Luria, 46, is fully vaccinated and boosted against the virus and was reportedly “experiencing mild symptoms.” . . .

Gridiron Club president Tom DeFrank confirmed to The Post Monday that at least 73 attendees of the April 2 shindig had since tested positive for COVID-19 — though he added that some of those infected may not have contracted the virus at the event.

At least three cabinet secretaries, several members of Congress, multiple White House officials and a large number of journalists are among the dozens to test positive.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams, a gala attendee, also joined the unlucky COVID club on Sunday after attending several in-person events across the city unmasked, and will be quarantining and working remotely from Gracie Mansion this week. COVID Insanity: Philadelphia Orders that Masks be Worn Indoors

Philadelphia will reinstate indoor mask mandates Monday, April 18, as its Covid-19 cases quickly rise, the city’s Public Health Commissioner Dr. Cheryl Bettigole announced Monday.

The city is the first major US metropolitan area to bring back masking requirements after a slew of cities and states dropped restrictions as cases began trending downward in January.

The city will move to its second level of Covid-19 restrictions, which requires Philadelphians to wear masks in all indoor public places, including schools, businesses, restaurants and government buildings.

“Starting today, I’m asking all businesses and institutions in Philadelphia to dig up those old masks-required signs and start hanging them in your windows,” Bettigole said in a news conference. (Read more from “COVID Insanity: Philadelphia Orders That Masks Be Worn Indoors” HERE)

How the Biden Administration Is Aiding and Abetting the Biggest Border Fraud in US History

America was already weathering the greatest border crisis in recorded history when President Joe Biden’s administration announced the last day of the Covid-related public health order Title 42 will be May 23. That’s the pandemic containment U.S. Code that, since President Donald Trump invoked it in March 2020, has been used to deny illegal border jumpers access to the American asylum system while bouncing them back to Mexico.

Biden started the crisis on Inauguration Day with his first executive orders and by cutting out major exemptions in Title 42 for illegal migrant families and minors. What was left of it posed the last serious speed bump to an unimpeded open border.

The Biden government has publicly admitted that something bad will happen at the southwest border: an estimated 12,000 to 18,000 migrant apprehensions a day (versus the record-breaking 6,000 average now), or up to 540,000 a month (170,000 a month lately), and maybe six million by the end of 2022 (compared to the nationally historic two million apprehensions at the end of 2021). A Washington Post headline craftily understated that Biden’s Department of Homeland Security was bracing for “unprecedented strains.” . . .

Clues about the true reasons for Title 42’s demise can be found throughout the communiques of pro-illegal immigration organizations. It was never that the public health crisis had passed, only about reopening full access to the American asylum system. Why?

Because as it stands, the asylum system provides a reprieve from mandatory deportation and all but guaranteed release into the United States. An apt term for this is “Remain in America.” It allows almost anyone on U.S. soil who utters “I want asylum” to a federal officer to dodge otherwise mandatory deportation and get in for years. All the Lies From Biden’s ‘Ghost Gun’ Event

Speaking in the Rose Garden on Monday, an aviator-clad President Biden trotted out more of the same misleading claims Democrats have used for years in their attempts to demonize legal firearm ownership by law-abiding citizens. The speech, meant to announce new executive action to regulate so-called “ghost guns” (a conjured up term to make homemade guns sounds scarier), turned into a gaffe-filled exercise in misinformation.

Repeatedly referring to the ATF as “AFT” — a gaffe that apparently confused the federal agency with the teachers union — Biden also repeated several the left’s favorite anti-gun buzzwords and tropes as an excuse to justify his executive action, but — like much of what Biden says — they’re just not true. . .

There is some limited protection for firearm manufacturers… just as there are for several other industries. As Stephen Gutowski explained, “Gun manufacturers can be sued and sometimes are sued over claims of negligence. . .

Biden’s claim here seems to be that his previous work to limit firearm ownership was a success, and that claim would be false. “The law that barred the sale of assault weapons from 1994 to 2004 made little difference,” Lois Beckett reported for The New York Times years ago:

It turns out that big, scary military rifles don’t kill the vast majority of the 11,000 Americans murdered with guns each year. Little handguns do.

‘Something Is up’: Congressman Spots Major Shift in Hunter Biden Story

A top House Republican thinks “something is up” as the federal investigation into Hunter Biden and his financial practices heats up.

Rep. Jim Jordan said on Sunday it “sure seems” the president’s son is on his way to being indicted, though the congressman acknowledged he could not say for certain. He pointed to an upswell in reporting on the authentication of contents on a laptop believed to have belonged to Hunter Biden, coinciding with a wave of grand jury activity.

“You mentioned those two stories from the Washington Post 10 days ago,” the Ohio Republican told host Maria Bartiromo on Fox News. “I understand they were four minutes apart. One was at 11:00. One was at 11:04. So two eight-page-long stories four minutes apart from the news organization that said 18 months ago there was no story here, this was Russian disinformation. That tells you something is up. You don’t see the Washington Post do that.”

While the New York Post led the charge in reporting on the contents of the abandoned laptop, which contained emails detailing Biden’s business dealings and roller coaster personal life, other major media outlets sought to cast doubt on its authenticity, and Big Tech companies even took steps to suppress its spread in the final weeks of the 2020 election.

Jordan, who is the top Republican on the House Judiciary Committee, remarked how “interesting” it is that the “story has evolved” in recent weeks, coinciding with rising suspicions that President Joe Biden himself could be drawn into a federal criminal investigation, even as the White House has been adamant in asserting that the president is not involved and that his 52-year-old son did not commit any crimes.
