By CNN. The Supreme Court on Thursday struck down a New York gun law enacted more than a century ago that places restrictions on carrying a concealed handgun outside the home — an opinion marking the widest expansion of gun rights in a decade.

“Because the State of New York issues public-carry licenses only when an applicant demonstrates a special need for self-defense, we conclude that the State’s licensing regime violates the Constitution,” Justice Clarence Thomas wrote for the court’s 6-3 majority.

The opinion changes the framework that lower courts will use going forward as they analyze other gun restrictions, which could include the proposals currently before Congress if they eventually become law. Biden DOJ Releases Bizarre Statement in Response to SCOTUS Opinion

By Townhall. The Department of Justice is weighing in after the Supreme Court struck down restrictive “may issue” concealed carry laws Thursday morning, bizarrely stating they do not agree with the decision.

“We respectfully disagree with the Court’s conclusion that the Second Amendment forbids New York’s reasonable requirement that individuals seeking to carry a concealed handgun must show that they need to do so for self-defense. The Department of Justice remains committed to saving innocent lives by enforcing and defending federal firearms laws, partnering with state, local and tribal authorities and using all legally available tools to tackle the epidemic of gun violence plaguing our communities,” DOJ Spokesperson Dena Iverson released in a statement.

Ukraine LGBTQ Community Upset Over Russian Invasion

The official Pride parade in Kyiv was canceled this year after a decade of hard-fought efforts for more acceptance of LGBTQ people.

Before Russia invaded, Ukraine – a largely religious nation with a long history of oppression against sexual and gender expression – had increasingly become a rare bright spot for LGBTQ rights and a sanctuary of sorts for Eastern Europe. Ex-Soviet LGBTQ individuals would travel to experience a gay nightclub scene, especially in larger cities like Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Odesa, where they could feel safer to be open.

Over a Third of GOP Voters to Back Candidate Who Embraces Trump’s Stolen-Election Claims, Says Poll

More than a third of Republicans say they are more likely to vote for a candidate who says the 2020 election was stolen from former President Donald Trump, a new poll shows.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday found that 35% of Republicans say they are more likely to support a candidate who embraces the stolen election claims, compared to 17% who said they would be less likely.

The remaining 44% of Republicans in the nationwide survey of adults said it makes “no difference.”

Conversely, 81% of Democrats said they would be less likely to vote for a candidate who embraces the stolen election claim, while 2% said they would be more likely to back one. Forty-four percent of independents said they would be less likely to support a stolen-election candidate, while 11% said they would be more likely to back one.

Mr. Trump’s stolen election claims and efforts to challenge the results of the 2020 election have taken center stage on Capitol Hill, where the Democratic-led Jan. 6 committee is holding hearings examining the events that led to last year’s riot at the U.S. Capitol. Dull ‘Lightyear’ Is Another Victim of Bored, Woke Filmmakers

Even with the titanic marketing force of Disney and buzz (no pun intended) around featuring a lesbian couple kissing, “Lightyear” proved to be a flop. Although it was expected to top the charts and bring in $70 million in its first weekend (a modest goal, all things considered), the movie made $51 million, second behind the newest Jurassic Park installment. For context, “Top Gun: Maverick” made more than $100 million in its opening weekend.

While it’s fair to see this as yet another instance of the truism, “go woke, go broke,” it’s worth asking why Disney keeps doing this. They have a whole slew of perfectly profitable franchises to tap, and they can churn out blockbusters from any of them without breaking a sweat. Why do they feel the need to shoehorn a scene of lesbians kissing that no asked for? Why did they double-down against their own audience?

Probably the first and foremost reason that Disney executives do this is because they can. They believe they have a monopoly over young audiences and can start treating them like a captive audience. Daniel Greenfield makes a convincing case in Frontpage Mag that this is exactly what Disney is thinking: “Disney may have started out feeding the imaginations of children, but now its business model is acquiring intellectual properties with active fandoms and milking the adult fans for every cent.” Rest assured, Disney will keep issuing more sequels and spinoffs ad nauseam, knowing full well that their cult-like fandoms will continue to watch them.

When entertaining people becomes secondary, it’s only natural to propagate a message. These days, that message is diversity, inclusion, and equity (DIE, as Jordan Peterson puts it), which has become the standard in all popular entertainment. For example, it was clear “Frozen II” would make a lot of money just because it was “Frozen II,” so its creators decided to turn the movie into a convoluted propaganda piece that spoke on the environment, the treatment of indigenous people, and female empowerment. No one seemed to mind that the movie was terrible, and there’s little doubt that Disney will make another sequel when the time is right. A Veterans Affairs employee was caught on video choking, kicking, and body-slamming a 73-year-old Vietnam vet.

WSB-TV released surveillance video from a violent altercation between a VA patient advocate and an elderly man on April 28 at the Department of Veterans Affairs Clinic at Fort McPherson in Atlanta, Georgia. WSB-TV investigative reporter Justin Gray filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) to acquire the surveillance video of the physical confrontation.

Phillip Webb was at the VA clinic to discuss a hernia surgery with a patient advocate named Lawrence F. Gaillard Jr.

The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs website defines a patient advocate as “an employee who is specifically designated at each VHA facility to manage the feedback received from veterans, family members, and friends.” The patient advocate “works directly with management and employees to facilitate resolutions.”

Reporter Says Democrats in Congress Told Her ‘Nobody Gives a Bleep About Jan. 6’

. . .Politico national correspondent Betsy Woodruff Swan shared what she heard as Capitol Hill gears up for the 2022 midterm elections during a segment Wednesday on the streaming service NBC News NOW. The exchange took place as the Jan. 6 committee is in the midst of holding a slate of summer hearings in which members are working to tie former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 election results to the Capitol riot.

“Does the Jan. 6 hearing break through at all?” anchor Chuck Todd asked after he noted polling that shows most Republicans think Trump truly believed there was widespread fraud in the 2020 election.

“I don’t think it does. I’ve talked to two separate Democratic members of Congress in the last couple weeks about Jan. 6 — obviously, I can’t say who — and both of them have said, offhandedly, nobody gives a bleep about Jan. 6 when they are talking about their districts and the way that elections play out,” she said. Couple Arrested After Bringing Child to UK With Plot to Harvest Organs

A couple from Nigeria was arrested in the United Kingdom on conspiracy charges after allegedly bringing a child to the country with the intent to harvest their organs, British police announced on Thursday.

Ike and Beatrice Ekweremadu were taken into custody and charged with conspiracy to arrange or facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, particularly organ harvesting, according to officials. Police opened an investigation into the couple in May after receiving reports of possible violations of modern slavery offenses.

Creepy Report: Alexa Working On Allowing Conversations With Dead Relatives

. . .According to the Sun, Alexa could be getting a new feature that would let you talk to a dead relative.

The report called the idea “creepy,” but said it anyway is being tested.

It is intended to “speak to you in the voice of deceased friends, family or loved ones.” . . .

Rohit Prasad, a spokesman for Amazon, apparently explained is is to “make the memories last.”

Joe Biden Claims His Personal COVID Czar Is ‘Running the CDC’

President Joe Biden said Tuesday that his personal COVID-19 czar, Dr. Ashish Jha, is “basically running the CDC” at an event celebrating the authorization of COVID-19 vaccines for young children.

Biden made the remark Tuesday at a vaccination clinic sponsored by the District of Columbia Department of Health, which he visited with his wife Jill Biden. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended COVID-19 vaccines for kids under five years old last week. Biden pointed at Jha amidst a crowd to laud him for his efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Is the doctor here? I’m sorry, you see Dr. Jha, see that guy up there? He’s the guy that’s running the CDC for me these days,” Biden said. “And he’s up there, he’s standing on stage ready to perform.”

New Poll Asks Americans if They Would Vote for Trump or DeSantis

A new poll released this week asked New Hampshire Republicans if they would vote for Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis or Trump if they ran against each other in the Republican primary in 2024.

A new University of New Hampshire Granite State poll published Wednesday found Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis received 39 percent of support from likely Republican primary voters in New Hampshire. Thirty-seven percent of likely Republican primary voters said they would vote for Trump. Nine percent of voters said they would vote for former Vice President Mike Pence. Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley garned 6 percent.
