Popular Daytime Habit Linked to a 48% Greater Risk of Dementia

The most conscientious make a point to get out and exercise, avoid smoking and keep tabs on blood pressure — maybe even protect their hearing, get vaccinated and listen to music — to lower dementia risk.

But a seemingly harmless routine practiced by as many as a third to half of people over 65 threatens to derail these efforts to keep dementia at bay.

New research from Johns Hopkins suggests that daytime napping is correlated with significantly increased dementia risk in adults 65 and older. . .

Often, naps are seen as a harmless and unavoidable part of getting older. But this new study shows that the frequency, length and spontaneity of the nap could influence the likelihood of developing dementia.

Those who napped most days or every day had a 48% higher risk of developing dementia over 10 years, compared to those who rarely or never napped, researchers found.

Those who napped frequently also had higher BMIs, a greater number of health conditions, stronger depressive symptoms and were more likely to have daytime sleepiness. They were also more likely to be men. (Read more from “Popular Daytime Habit Linked to a 48% Greater Risk of Dementia” HERE)

Attack Ad Featuring Ohio Democrat’s ‘Abusive’ Mom Backfires On Vivek Ramaswamy

A political ad-style video showing Ohio gubernatorial candidate Amy Acton’s “abusive and estranged” biological mother drew condemnation on social media, with critics accusing her Republican opponent, Vivek Ramaswamy, of engaging in a sleazy attack.

The video featured Acton’s estranged mother, Donna Arthur, describing her daughter as a “liar,” disputing allegations about her upbringing and urging Ohioans not to vote for her. Acton’s campaign responded in a statement Tuesday.

“It’s not surprising that Vivek Ramaswamy has stooped to such a despicable low as to attempt to turn the sexual abuse Amy endured at twelve years old from our birth mother’s husband into a political talking point,” Acton’s brother, Philip Stearns, said in a statement.

“After he was arrested and Amy and I were removed from their custody, our birth mother stayed married to Amy’s rapist until he died,” Stearns continued. “This desperate, disgusting attack reveals exactly who Vivek Ramaswamy is at his core — a pathetic excuse for a man who is willing to hurt anyone as long as it gets him what he wants.”

The Daily Caller has reached out to Ramaswamy’s campaign. It is unclear whether the campaign had any role in the creation of the video. (Read more from “Attack Ad Featuring Ohio Democrat’s ‘Abusive’ Mom Backfires On Vivek Ramaswamy” HERE)

Sam Altman’s Sister Who Claims He Raped Her As Young Child Loses Suit

The sister of one of the most powerful artificial intelligence executives saw her childhood sexual abuse lawsuit against him thrown out after refusing a medical exam.

U.S. District Judge Zachary Bluestone, a Trump appointee, dismissed a lawsuit Monday in which Annie Altman accused her brother, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, of repeatedly sexually abusing and raping her within a span of nine years from 1997 to 2006, beginning when she was three years old and he was 12, court records show. The ruling concludes a nearly two-year legal fight between the two, though Mr. Altman and his family have denied the allegations, Reuters reported.

Bluestone threw out both Altman siblings’ claims after Annie refused a medical examination, though Sam is free to refile his, according to the court order.

“I am no longer authorized to comment on this case but I continue to believe in Annie,” Annie Altman’s former counsel, Santos Perez, said in a statement to the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Laura Politi, Annie Altman’s current counsel, and Sam Altman’s attorneys Hailyn Chen of Munger, Tolles & Olson and Jonathan Kravis of Liu Shur Kravis did not immediately respond to the DCNF’s request for comment.

IDF Reportedly Ignores Hotline For Settler Violence

The Israel Defense Forces’ (IDF) hotline intended for addressing instances of Israeli settler violence in the West Bank has been reportedly rendered nonfunctional.

Civilians, including journalists and diplomats have no reliable way to report settler violence, Israeli outlet Haaretz reported Monday. The issue was discussed by the High Court of Justice last Thursday, following a petition from the legal aid group Yesh Din.

Before the group of European diplomats were attacked by masked settlers on Saturday, a report concerning a violent group of Israeli settlers reached the operations room of the West Bank based Benjamin Brigade. However, the brigade did not respond, according to Haaretz. The Thursday petition came just days before settlers violently attacked both European diplomats and an American female journalist in the span of two days.

The operations room “is intended to receive reports from security personnel only, not civilians. It responds only to authorized personnel, who are not civilians”, the IDF Spokesperson’s Unit told Haaretz, “there are other centers designated to receive complaints from civilians.”

The Israeli government did not immediately respond to the Daily Caller News Foundation’s request for comment.

However, civilians allege there is not a functional mechanism for reporting settler violence. (Read more from “IDF Reportedly Ignores Hotline For Settler Violence” HERE)

Priest Gave Sermon on Spontaneity of Death Just Before Falling Crucifix Killed Him During Livestreamed Mass

The Catholic priest who was killed by a falling crucifix over the weekend in Ecuador had been giving a sermon about the fleeting nature of life just before the freak accident was caught live on camera.

Father Patricio Sánchez Molinari, of the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in southern Guayaquil, was reflecting on the words of Jesus when he told his congregation they should not waste their lives scrolling on their phones and instead dedicate them to God and their loved ones.

“One day, all of us here will also die, and sometimes the time we’ve spent on things doesn’t have as much meaning as the time we spend with God,” he said.

“The quality time we give to God, to our brothers and sisters, to our husbands, wives, children, and family— that time is the best spent,” Molinari added.

The priest went on to ask God to bless his congregation as he began another prayer — when the giant crucifix behind him suddenly fell off the wall and landed on him. (Read more from “Priest Gave Sermon on Spontaneity of Death Just Before Falling Crucifix Killed Him During Livestreamed Mass” HERE)

Alaska Campaign Decries ‘Dark Money’ While Using It To Preserve Ranked-Choice Voting

The main group leading the charge to keep ranked-choice voting (RCV) in Alaska has made stopping outside “dark money” in elections a big part of its campaign message. So why is it accepting large swaths of it to ensure the disastrous system remains in place?

A newly released campaign finance report shows that the “No on 2” campaign has received millions of out-of-state funds from left-wing dark-money organizations to help defeat the Last Frontier State’s Measure 2 ballot initiative in the 2026 midterm elections. The initiative seeks to repeal the state’s ranked-choice voting system and eliminate “campaign finance provisions that require persons and entities that contribute more than $2,000 that were themselves derived from donations, contributions, dues, or gifts to disclose the true sources (as defined in law) of the political contributions,” states Ballotpedia.

Under RCV, voters rank candidates in order of preference. If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of first-choice votes in the first round of voting, the last-place finisher is eliminated, and his votes are reallocated to the voter’s second-choice candidate. This process continues until one candidate receives a majority of votes.

RCV was narrowly adopted in Alaska in 2020, thanks in part to backing from liberal Republican Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s allies in the state. The system allowed Murkowski to survive a primary challenge in 2022 and has now put the Last Frontier State’s 2026 Senate race and other contests in play for Democrats.

An initiative to repeal RCV made Alaska’s 2024 ballot, but was defeated by fewer than 700 votes after a wave of out-of-state dark money flooded in to defeat the measure. Those forces are now once again dumping money into the Last Frontier State to kill the 2026 repeal efforts. Iran’s 350,000 Troops Emerge as Major US Army Focus amid Khamenei’s Defiant Claims

Iranian Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei claimed Oct. 8 that U.S. and Israeli strikes had failed to undermine Iran’s domestic security forces, praising police personnel for resisting attacks launched in February under Operations Epic Fury and Roaring Lion.

Khamenei’s remarks on X also came as the U.S. Army released a new battlefield identification guide to help American troops recognize members of Iran’s conventional military, known as the Artesh, whose ground forces were estimated by the Jerusalem Institute for Strategy and Security in June at 350,000 personnel.

“The criminal US-Zionist enemy’s desperate efforts and malicious attacks on the pillars of social order and security, which are unparalleled throughout history, have not caused the courageous personnel of the Police Force to waver even a fraction in their mission,” Khamenei wrote in a statement.

Khamenei specifically praised Iran’s Law Enforcement Command, known as FARAJA, accusing the United States and Israel of targeting the institution responsible for maintaining domestic order.

“The focus and persistence of the criminal US-Zionist enemy in striking at the Police Force at its various levels, from its highest command levels down to those who are on the frontline, has only served to underscore the paramount importance of this institution more than ever,” he wrote. Trump and Rubio Reportedly Furious as Kimberly Guilfoyle Faces Possible Firing

U.S. Ambassador to Greece Kimberly Guilfoyle may soon be fired amid reports she sought a six-figure credit card bailout from a Trump donor while offering access to administration officials, adding to mounting allegations over her conduct in Athens.

President Donald Trump and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are “extremely pissed off” by Guilfoyle’s reported conduct and are weighing her removal, The Associated Press reported Sunday, citing a senior U.S. official.

The official told the AP that a decision on what action to take would likely come this week after Monday’s Columbus Day holiday. No departure has been confirmed.

Guilfoyle, onetime fiancée of Donald Trump Jr., came under scrutiny this week after The Wall Street Journal reported that she asked Trump donor Eric Deters to pay off a $100,000 American Express bill shortly before her Senate confirmation hearing.

According to messages reviewed by the Journal, Guilfoyle urged Deters to wire the money directly to American Express, saying the transaction would not leave a paper trail, while offering to help him gain access to senior Trump administration officials. Deters said he never made the payment. (Read more from “Trump and Rubio Reportedly Furious as Kimberly Guilfoyle Faces Possible Firing” HERE)

Poll: 1 In 5 Undergrads Says U.S. Deserved 9/11, Nearly Half Endorse Violence Against ‘Hate Speech’

Just weeks after the United States commemorated the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorists attacks, a new poll reveals more than one in five undergraduate students believe America deserved the attacks, while nearly half of all undergraduate students think physical violence is justified to stop so-called hate speech.

The Buckley Institute’s 2026 National Undergraduate Student Survey polled 803 American undergraduate students between September 5 and 14.

A shocking 22 percent agreed that America deserved 9/11, including 28 percent of liberal students. Notably, leftist streamer Hasan Piker — who campaigned with Michigan Democrat Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and cozies up to New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani — has said America deserved 9/11. Meanwhile, Aber Kawas, a Democratic Socialist of America member and nominee for the New York state Senate, has said that America brought on 9/11 because of capitalism, alleged white supremacy and racism, and alleged Islamophobia.

The poll also found that 45 percent of American college students believe physical violence can be justified to stop hate speech — among which 54 percent of liberals agree compared to 30 percent of conservatives.

“Interestingly, 72% of those who agree that physical violence can be justified to stop hate speech also agree that hate speech is protected by the First Amendment,” The Buckley Institute found.
