Former Federal Prosecutor Says Judge Delaying Sentencing May ‘Signal’ He Plans to Jail Trump ‘After the Election’

Former federal prosecutor Andrew Cherkasky said on Friday that Judge Juan Merchan’s decision to postpone former President Donald Trump’s sentencing could indicate his intention to jail the former president following the November election.

Trump’s sentencing was slated for Sept. 18, but Merchan delayed the date on Friday “if necessary” to Nov. 26, according to the order. Cherkasky, on “America Reports,” suggested Merchan might have delayed the sentencing because imprisoning Trump before the election could be catastrophic, whereas doing so afterward would be more practical.

“[George Washington University law professor] Jonathan Turley was just explaining, perhaps this is a path to him finding or reaching a decision that does not have jail time for Donald Trump. I think it could be a signal of the opposite, that trying to jail the president ahead of the election would have been disastrous for the nation at large,” Cherkasky said. “But if he waits until after the election, then that becomes more of a viable option for him. I’m not saying I think that’s necessarily going to happen. Violent Crime Creating ‘Dystopian Hell’ Despite Biden’s Claim America is Safer

President Joe Biden’s policies have not contributed to a decrease in violent crime, multiple sources told the Daily Caller, despite the Biden-Harris administration seizing on a recent report that seemed to show major cities were safer in 2024.

One liberal-run city is a “dystopian hell,” remarked a police union representative to the Caller. Additionally, changes in reporting protocols create the “illusion” of safety, according to one law enforcement officer.

A report by the Major Cities Chiefs Association captured data on violent crime from 69 cities. New York City was not included because it did not submit violent crime numbers for the first half of this year. An Axios analysis of the data found a 6% overall decrease in violent crime in the first half of 2024 compared to the first six months of 2023. The data appeared to show steep drops in violent crime, including a 41% drop in Columbus, Ohio – the largest decline in the country.

Officers in the city, however, face a starkly different reality.

“Our officers and the citizens they serve are still battling violent crime daily,” Brian Steel, President of the Ninth Capital City Lodge Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) in Ohio, told the Caller. “Recent changes in crime reporting have done little more than create the illusion that all is well.”

Harris and Walz Avoiding the Press Isn’t a Savvy Campaign Strategy — They’re Just Cowards

The New Republic, a publication I can vaguely recall from my youth (when people last cared about it), is saying the quiet part out loud: “Kamala Harris Doesn’t Need Policy to Win.”

This might be a true statement, but coming from the media, Kamala’s policy, or lack thereof, ought to be examined as a matter of public interest. Which is to say that the question they should be asking is not whether Kamala can win an election without talking about policy but whether she should.

Kamala Harris still doesn’t have a single policy position listed on her website. Even Mark Penn, a former top adviser to Hillary Clinton, is appalled:

One interview. One debate. Some rah rah stump speech you read over and over. And voila you have a 50 per cent chance of being president.

Good gig if you can get it. No 3 debates. No 2 years of primaries, coalition building, no detailed policy development, and no daily press briefings. Or tests of leadership.

Desperate Democrats Are Pushing Yet Another Version of the Russia Collusion Hoax

The Biden administration’s announcement this week that the Justice Department is taking action against alleged Kremlin-run websites and Russian state media employees as part of an effort to crack down on Russian “misinformation” ahead of the election should raise red flags — huge, obvious red flags.

The biggest red flag is the timing of the indictment and accompanying announcement, just as mail-in ballots in some states are sent out and two weeks before in-person voting begins in some states. The only possible reason for the DOJ to announce this now, and to frame it as a Russian election meddling scheme designed to boost former President Donald Trump, is to paint Trump and his supporters as agents of a hostile foreign power, or at the very least to imply that Trump’s support is fake, paid for by Moscow.

In other words, the timing of the indictment itself represents an egregious form of election meddling by our own Justice Department, whose longstanding policy is not to file indictments that could potentially influence an election. Yet that’s the entire purpose of the indictment announced this week.

We’ve seen this playbook before from Democrats. Hand-waving about “Russian disinformation” and “election interference” by the DOJ and the U.S. intelligence community is of course a well-worn election interference tactic — and arguably a far more potent than anything that’s ever come from Moscow.

First it was the outlandish claim in 2016 that Donald Trump was actually a secret Russian agent and that he colluded with Moscow to win the White House. An entire FBI investigation was based on the discredited and patently ridiculous Steele dossier. The initial election meddling allegation was based on nothing more than $100,000 or so in Facebook ads purchased by Russian entities with the aim of sowing division among the American electorate. And from that thin reed, an entire narrative emerged that Russia not only meddled in our election but that Trump colluded with Moscow in the effort. Russians Appear to Gun Down Surrendering Ukrainian Soldiers, Disturbing Drone Footage Shows

Russian troops appeared to ruthlessly shoot dead three Ukrainian soldiers who had surrendered on their knees in a disturbing front-lines execution captured in drone footage, according to a report Friday.

The soldiers had placed their hands on their heads on a road after their trench was overtaken near the war-torn city of Pokrovsk in late August, according to Ukrainian drone footage obtained by CNN.

Seconds later, they’re shown suddenly falling to the ground face-first as dust rises — a sign Russian troops had opened fire instead of taking them prisoner, according to the outlet. . .

“If prisoners of war surrender, if they show that they surrender, if they are without weapons in their hands, then summary execution is a war crime,” Andriy Kostin, the prosecutor general of Ukraine, told CNN.

The incident is part of a pattern of harrowing executions in recent months — and is an example of the Russian military’s relentlessly brutal tactics as they advance in Ukraine’s eastern region, Ukrainian officials told the outlet. Former Republican Vice President Will Vote for Kamala Harris

Republican former Vice President Dick Cheney will vote for Kamala Harris over Donald Trump in the 2024 election, he said in a statement released Friday, shortly after his daughter, former Congresswoman Liz Cheney, revealed his intentions.

“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” the former Wyoming Republican lawmaker said during an event at the Texas Tribune Festival in Austin.

“If you think about the moment we’re in, and you think about how serious this moment is, my dad believes — and he said publicly — there has never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is,” Liz Cheney added.

Dick Cheney, 83, has been an outspoken critic of Trump, and in his statement, he argued that the former president “can never be trusted with power again.”

“In our nation’s 248-year history, there has never been an individual who is a greater threat to our republic than Donald Trump,” read the former vice president’s statement. “He tried to steal the last election using lies and violence to keep himself in power after the voters had rejected him. This Could Increase Your Risk of Alzheimer’s Disease More Than Anything: Study

. . .Researchers say that exposure to bright outside lights at night could increase your odds of developing Alzheimer’s disease more than other risk factors, especially for young people.

“We show that in the US there is a positive association between [Alzheimer’s] prevalence and exposure to light at night, particularly in those under the age of 65,” said Robin Voigt-Zuwala, an associate professor at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago. “Nightly light pollution — a modifiable environmental factor — may be an important risk factor.”

Voigt-Zuwala’s team studied maps of light pollution — such as streetlights, roadway lighting and illuminated signs — and divided the lower 48 states into five groups, from lowest to highest nighttime light intensity.

Artificial light at night can disrupt the body’s 24-hour biological clock and ruin sleep. Sleep deprivation and insomnia are associated with cognitive decline.

On Wednesday, Axios’ Alex Thompson reported on a “lengthy ‘fact-check’ ” forwarded by the Harris team to their allies in the press revising the unpopular policy positions she articulated just a few years ago.

Among the assertions made: Harris “does not support an electric vehicle mandate.”

. . .Back in 2019, Harris co-sponsored a bill that would have required automobile manufacturers to produce only electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, completely phasing out the gas-powered ones that most Americans depend on by 2040.

Gun-Control Groups Claim Making Kids Transgender Will Limit Firearm Violence

Ensuring minors can access procedures like puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones is a “crucial component” in the fight against firearm violence, gun control groups told the Supreme Court Tuesday.

In an amicus brief filed in United States v. Skrmetti, organizations including Giffords, the Brady Center to Prevent Gun Violence, Team Enough and March For Our Lives Action urged the Supreme Court to strike down a Tennessee law banning sex change procedures for minors, claiming such laws contribute to a “climate of hostility that puts transgender individuals directly at risk.” The groups also argued that youth who identify as transgender are at a higher risk of committing suicide using a firearm when they cannot access “gender-affirming care,” a euphemism for life-altering medical interventions.

“In the face of the ongoing gun violence crisis gripping our nation, ensuring access to gender affirming care for transgender youth is not merely a matter of medical necessity—it is a crucial component in our fight against the epidemic of gun violence that disproportionately threatens this vulnerable population,” the groups argued.

The correlation between a “surge in violence” and “discriminatory legislation” cannot be ignored, the groups argued.
