New Research Shows Number of Kids Hospitalized for COVID Is Majorly Overcounted

The reported number of COVID-19 hospitalizations, one of the primary metrics for tracking the severity of the coronavirus pandemic, was grossly inflated for children in California hospitals, two research papers published Wednesday concluded. The papers, both published in the journal Hospital Pediatrics, found that pediatric hospitalizations for COVID-19 were overcounted by at least 40 percent, carrying potential implications for nationwide figures.

Dr. Monica Gandhi, an infectious-diseases specialist at the University of California, San Francisco, and Amy Beck, an associate professor of pediatrics, also at UCSF, wrote a commentary for Hospital Pediatrics that accompanied the two studies. They wrote, “Taken together, these studies underscore the importance of clearly distinguishing between children hospitalized with SARS-CoV-2 found on universal testing versus those hospitalized for COVID-19 disease.” The studies demonstrate, they said, that reported hospitalization rates “greatly overestimate the true burden of COVID-19 disease in children.” Gandhi told Intelligencer that while the studies were both conducted with data from California hospitals, “there is no reason to think these findings would be exclusive to California. This sort of retrospective chart review will likely reveal the same findings across the country.”

The implications of the findings of these two studies are enormously important, as reports of pediatric hospitalizations have regularly made headlines over the past year, greatly affecting public perceptions about risks to children. Untold numbers of parents have kept children home from school or limited playdates and other activities out of fear their children would be infected and fall seriously ill. The hospitalization numbers for children were already extremely low relative to adults — at the pandemic’s peak this winter, it was roughly ten times lower than for 18-to-49-year-olds and 77 times lower than those age 65 and up. But cutting the pediatric numbers by nearly half is a striking difference, making the actual rates vanishingly small. Pediatric hospitalization figures for COVID-19 also influence policy on school openings and guidelines, camp recommendations, and other political decisions. Gandhi and Beck’s commentary noted, “Children have suffered tremendously due to policies that have kept schools and recreational facilities closed to them, and the burden has been greatest on children who are low-income and English-language learners.”

In one study, conducted at a children’s hospital in Northern California, among the 117 pediatric SARS-CoV2-positive patients hospitalized between May 10, 2020, and February 10, 2021, the authors concluded that 53 of them (or 45 percent) “were unlikely to be caused by SARS-CoV-2.” The reasons for hospital admission for these “unlikely” patients included surgeries, cancer treatment, a psychiatric episode, urologic issues, and various infections such as cellulitis, among other diagnoses. The study also found that 46 (or 39.3 percent) of patients coded as SARS-CoV2 positive were asymptomatic. In other words, despite patients’ testing positive for the virus as part of the hospital’s universal screening, COVID-19 symptoms were absent, therefore it was not the reason for the hospitalization. Any instance where the link between a positive SARS-CoV2 test and cause of admission was uncertain the authors erred toward giving a “likely” categorization. The ‘New Soros’: Exposé Reveals Immense Secret Power of Tech Heiress Laurene Powell Jobs

Laurene Powell Jobs, whom Vox describes as “one of the world’s most important philanthropists,” is the widow of Apple founder and billionaire computer guru Steve Jobs. She has become a secret superpower behind a vast network of left-wing media outlets, organizations, and politicians. Forbes lists Jobs as one of the ten richest women on earth, with a net worth of around $16 billion, mostly from her family stakes in two of the world’s biggest companies: Apple and Disney.

I investigated Jobs’ growing influence in my new book, Breaking the News: Exposing the Establishment Media’s Hidden Deals and Secret Corruptions, which exposes the hidden connections between the establishment media and the activist left.

If there’s a well-known persona comparable to Laurene Powell Jobs, it’s Hungarian billionaire George Soros. Soros is branded a “philanthropist,” but he also functions as a one-man piggy bank for the globalist far-left. Much like Soros’ Open Society Foundations, the main vehicle for Jobs’ influence is Emerson Collective (EC), the philanthropic outfit she founded and leads. The Emerson Collective, according to Forbes, is “a hybrid philanthropic and investing limited liability company.” That’s a pretty murky description, which appears to allow them to engage in business and charity without ever being terribly explicit about which is which. I’m not sure which of the two categories it falls under, but EC also happens to own the Atlantic.

Inside Philanthropy named Jobs 2019’s “Least Transparent Mega-giver.”

EC functions primarily as a private business owned by Jobs’s personal trust. This shields it from IRS disclosure rules and allows it to more freely engage in political activity. (Read more from “The ‘New Soros’: Exposé Reveals Immense Secret Power of Tech Heiress Laurene Powell Jobs” HERE)

In Ordaining a Trans Bishop, Leftist Denomination Calls God a Liar

It’s a dangerous and disheartening turn when a church forgets, casts aside, or re-writes the biblical and scientific facts of what it means to be human in order to embrace a fashionable new theory. Yet in recently becoming the first major American denomination to ordain an openly trans bishop, this is precisely what the left-leaning Evangelical Lutheran Church in America just did.

Rev. Megan Rohrer, the new bishop, is a very interesting person. Although God joyfully created her female and she still retains her lovely female first name, she employs the plural pronouns “they” and “them” for herself, as well as “he,” and asks the rest of us to do the same. She does not, however, seem to fully identify as a man, and at 41, her “transition” seems to still be in process. . .

Rohrer claims to be a minister of a faith in which the first truth we read about male or female, in the very context that Jesus referenced, is that both are the unique and exclusive image of God in creation. Assuming male or female is simply what we are “assigned at birth” or “identify as” is not an option for anyone who takes Jesus at His word. It is not an option for anyone who takes science and biology seriously, either.

But by dictate of an intentional policy, one of the largest religious entities in America has just radically changed God’s first words to us about His own image and likeness in the world, as well as what it means to be human, officially affirming the false idea that God tells us lies about who we are through the bodies He gave us.

We can be sure of this: God isn’t the confused one. The ELCA has also told all members of their denomination that in order to be good and loving members, they are expected to embrace and celebrate the leaders who believe those lies (Read more from “In Ordaining a Trans Bishop, Leftist Denomination Calls God a Liar” HERE)

Grammy-Winning Christian Musician Announces He’s an ‘Exvangelical’

DC Talk’s Kevin Max has admitted that he is an “exvangelical,” according to the Christian Post, and is working toward “progressing” and “deconstructing.” . . .

In responses to his initial tweet, Max said that he still believes in “the Universal Christ.”

“For all those people using my post as plug & play for your own hot take or personal discourse, I offer the lyrics to an upcoming song off of my new band @AstronautsSad album ‘Adult Fears’ titled ‘It’s okay,'” he wrote. “I’m sorry for being obtuse or difficult but it’s a process … love.” . . .

The outlet reported that some of those people leaving the Christian church have begun referring to themselves as the “nones” and are promoting a movement called “deconstruction” — translated as “deconstructing one’s faith and leaving the church.” (Read more from “Grammy-Winning Christian Musician Announces He’s an ‘Exvangelical'” HERE)

A 2-year-old boy in Maine shot his parents Wednesday morning with a gun he picked up from a nightstand, a report said.

The toddler’s 25-year-old father was hit in the head, and the mother, 22, was struck in the leg in the shooting at their home in West Bath, WMTW reported, citing Sagadahoc County Sheriff Joel Merry.

The baby was injured by the recoil of the gun, authorities said. All three family members were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Merry. (Read more from “Toddler Shoots Both Parents in Maine Home” HERE)

Twitter Suspends Politician After Saying Men Can’t Get Pregnant

Twitter suspended a member of Spain’s Parliament last week after the politician wrote on the social media platform that “a man cannot get pregnant.” . . .

Francisco José Contreras, a member of Spain’s right-wing Vox Party, was locked out of his Twitter account for 12 hours after publishing the politically incorrect statement.

Contreras was reportedly responding to a news article in which a transgender man claimed they were now a father after giving birth to a child.

“Es una mentira. Un hombre no puede quedar embarazado. Un hombre no tiene útero ni óvulos,” Contreras wrote in Spanish, which translates in English to, “This is a lie. A man cannot get pregnant. A man neither has a uterus nor ovaries.”

Twitter claimed Contreras had violated its platform rules against “hate speech.” Twitter specifically cited rules against “threatening, harassing, or encouraging violence” against people on the basis of “sexual orientation,” “gender,” and “gender identity.” (Read more from “Twitter Suspends Politician After Saying Men Can’t Get Pregnant” HERE)

Major Church Looks To Kill Saying ‘Husband and Wife’ at Weddings

The general assembly of the Church of Scotland soon will be reviewing a plan to drop the terms “husband and wife” from its marriage ceremonies.

It’s that sometimes, well, these days there’s no husband, or wife, because the church is planning to dive headlong into affirming same-sex duos.

The Christian Institute described the plan as “radical,” and noted later this month the leaders of the religious organization will consider a specific plan to kill references to “husband and wife.” . . .

Currently, the church’s marriage ceremonies explain, “the parties covenant together to take each other as husband and wife as long as they both shall live, and the minister declares the parties to be husband and wife.”

The proposal would make it, “the parties covenant together to take each other in marriage as long as they both shall live, and the minister or deacon declares the parties to be married.” (Read more from “Major Church Looks To Kill Saying ‘Husband and Wife’ at Weddings” HERE)

Supreme Court Tees up To Review Abortion Bans in Mississippi Case

The U.S. Supreme Court agreed to take up a case examining whether Mississippi’s pro-life ban on elective abortions 15 weeks into pregnancy is unconstitutional.

This particular restriction in Missippi was first enacted in 2018 and allowed abortions after the 15-week date for “medical emergencies” and “severe” fetal abnormalities. Lower courts, however, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit, blocked the law and ruled that it places an undue burden on women who want to abort their child after the state’s deadline.

By choosing to take up Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health, justices on the Supreme Court are teeing up to reevaluate “whether all pre-viability prohibitions on elective abortions are unconstitutional” and potentially change how landmark abortion cases such as Roe v. Wade and Planned Parenthood v. Casey affect Americans.

Pro-life activists celebrated the decision as a step in the right direction to ban abortion altogether.

Dr. Fauci: Children Still Have To Wear Masks

Unvaccinated children still need to wear masks when playing with friends, especially while indoors, Dr. Anthony Fauci insisted Friday.

The recommendation from the country’s top infectious disease expert came just hours after the CDC eased its mask guidance for fully vaccinated Americans, saying they can stop wearing masks and practicing social distancing in most settings.

But Fauci said in his first interview following Thursday’s announcement that youngsters should continue to take precautions such as wearing a mask to protect themselves against COVID-19.

“The children do when they’re out there playing with their friends, particularly in an indoor situation, they do,” Fauci told CNN Thursday. (Read more from “Dr. Fauci: Children Still Have To Wear Masks” HERE)
