Senate Confirms Trump Judicial Nominee Who Once Called Roe v. Wade ‘Erroneous Decision’

The Senate on Tuesday confirmed President Donald Trump’s nominee to the 7th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, a move widely criticized by advocacy groups.

Three Democrat senators joined republicans to confirm Amy Coney Barrett with a 55-43 vote.

Barrett is a Catholic Notre Dame law professor who has criticized Obama’s birth control mandate for being “a grave violation of religious freedom” and once questioned the controversial Roe V. Wade ruling legalizing abortion, according to The Hill.

Senate Democrats attacked Barrett for her Catholic faith, The Washington Examiner reported, expressing their belief that Barrett would put her personal bias before the law.

“Today’s vote continues the Senate Republicans’ record of rubber stamping all of President Trump’s judicial nominees,” Vanita Gupta, president and CEO of The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, said in a statement.

Democrats expressed concern that Barrett, because of her strong religious faith, will rule against LGBT rights and women receiving access to abortion.

Among the more outspoken opponents to Barrett’s confirmation was Democrat Sen. Dianne Feinstein, who told Barrett “the dogma lives loudly within you” while questioning her about her Catholic faith.

The president of Notre Dame, Rev. John Jenkins, called out Feinstein in Barrett’s defense.

“It is chilling to hear from a United States senator that this might now disqualify someone from service as a federal judge,” Jenkins wrote in an open letter.

But Barrett denies she would let her personal beliefs get in the way of ruling on the law.

“If you’re asking whether I’m a faithful Catholic, I am,” Barrett said, “although I would stress that my own personal church affiliation or my religious belief would not bear on the discharge of my duties as a judge.”

Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley also came to Barrett’s defense.

“Professor Barrett is a brilliant legal scholar who has earned the respect of colleagues and students from across the political spectrum,” Sen. Grassley said Monday. “She’s also a committed Roman Catholic and has spoken passionately about the role that her faith plays in her life. This isn’t inconsistent with being a federal judge.”

Despite Democrats’ widespread anger at the Senate’s decision to confirm Barrett, the decision was seen by many as a victory for conservatives.

“Amy Coney Barrett’s qualifications for the federal judiciary are undisputed, but abortion industry advocates continue their smear campaign by attacking Barrett’s Catholic faith,” The Catholic Association legal adviser Andrea Picciotti-Baye said in a statement.

Barrett is the first of three women, and four appeals court nominees, that Republicans intend to confirm this week, reports The Washington Times.

“I assume that all three of these impressive women will receive strong support from our Democratic colleagues, who never seem to miss an opportunity to talk about a ‘War on Women,’” Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said. Chuck Norris Sues Drug Companies for ‘Poisoning’ Wife

Action star Chuck Norris usually resolves problems with a roundhouse kick, but this time he’s taking a different approach – he’s going to court.

Norris filed suit against 11 drug companies Wednesday in San Francisco for “poisoning” his wife Gena with a dye containing the heavy metal gadolinium used with MRI scans in a procedure that “left her close to death with lifelong pain and weakness.” The dye makes the organs easier to see on the scans, improving diagnosis.

Following three MRI scans in one week five years ago to assess her rheumatoid arthritis, Gena began to feel like she was dying. And her husband could see it, too.

“I just heard that still small voice deep inside of me that said, ‘Gena your body is dying.’ And I walked out of the bathroom and he just took one look at me and he knew; ‘I’m about to lose my wife,’” Gena said in an interview on “Full Measure with Sharyl Attkisson.” . . .

He went on, “Well it’s the helpless feeling, you know cause I’m kind of a take charge guy, and then here I have something where I cannot do anything and it was, it was horrifying and, and uh, I just thank, thank God that we were able to weather it and that she did get better and I got my wife back.” (Read more from “Chuck Norris Sues Drug Companies for ‘Poisoning’ Wife” HERE)

Parent Holds Teacher Hostage, Gets Shot

A parent who allegedly took a teacher hostage at a Riverside elementary school Tuesday afternoon, prompting an evacuation and hourslong standoff, was shot by police and has since died, authorities said.

The man was taken from the scene in a stretcher and put in an ambulance about 6 p.m. Tuesday after officers entered the classroom where the hostage was held, and an officer-involved shooting occurred, Riverside police said. He later died from his injuries, police said.

After being in fear of the victim’s safety all day, police said Linda Montgomery, 70, was safe after the incident, but taken to a hospital as a precaution. It is unclear what led up to the police shooting, but police also used a flash bang to distract the suspect, officials said. His condition is unknown.

The incident was originally reported about 11:12 a.m. at Castle View Elementary School, 6201 Shaker Drive, according to Riverside Police Department spokesman Officer Ryan Railsback . . .

Police responded to the school for a disturbance involving the parent. He apparently did not follow protocol, forced himself into the school, became upset and barricaded himself inside the classroom with the teacher, Railsback said. It is unclear why the parent, who has not been identified, was upset and if the teacher was already in the classroom or was pulled in by the parent. Gov’t Inspection of Texas Abortion Giant Finds Rusty Tools, Rat Holes, Broken Beds

The Texas abortion chain that the Supreme Court ruled in 2016 didn’t need to be held to basic safety standards has dozens of health and sanitary violations in its centers, new government reports reveal.

The Texas Department of State Health Services reports were released by the pro-life group And Then There Were None (ATTWN), which helps abortion workers leave the abortion industry. ATTWN is led by Planned Parenthood clinic director turned pro-life activist Abby Johnson.

The reports show that from 2011 to 2017, the Whole Woman’s Health abortion conglomerate has violated health codes by using rusty equipment, examining aborted babies in the same room where contaminated instruments were being washed, and failing to properly disinfect and sterilize instruments used from woman to woman.

One facility had a hole in cabinet flooring that had “the likelihood to allow rodents to enter the facility.”

“The reports we obtained show a blatant disregard for women’s health and safety, as well as the safety of the abortion workers themselves, on the part of Whole Woman’s Health,” said Johnson. “Women deserve this information.” (Read more from “Gov’t Inspection of Texas Abortion Giant Finds Rusty Tools, Rat Holes, Broken Beds” HERE)

New Accusers Expand Harvey Weinstein Sexual Assault Claims Back to ’70s

By The New York Times. Hope Exiner d’Amore said Harvey Weinstein raped her in a hotel room in the 1970s, when he was a young concert promoter in Buffalo. Cynthia Burr said that during this time, he assaulted her in an encounter that began in an elevator and ended with forced oral sex in a hallway. Ashley Matthau, a dancer with a bit part in one of his movies, said that in 2004, he pushed her down on a bed and masturbated while straddling her. Days later, she said, he paid her to remain silent.

Three weeks after complaints of sexual harassment and misconduct by Mr. Weinstein were first reported in The New York Times, women from different continents, fields and generations have come forward with allegations of rape, sexual assault and groping. New accounts include one previously undisclosed settlement with Mr. Weinstein and expand the time frame of alleged wrongdoing to the 1970s.

Together, the accounts provide a widening tally of alleged abuses, and illustrate the toll on women who say they felt ashamed and isolated as they watched the Hollywood producer walk red carpets, pile up Oscars and showcase his ties to prominent figures. She Suspected an Affair, Then She Found a Camera

A daughter discovered hidden cameras in her bedroom and bathroom after finding videos of herself undressing and nude on a family computer, police said.

Matthew Bordeaux, 48, used the cameras that were concealed inside an electrical wall socket in her bedroom and an AC adapter in the bathroom they shared to take nude pictures, according to court records. The documents did not indicate the nature of their relationship but says Bordeaux, a woman and her daughter lived together for the last seven years “as a family.”

The victim, whose identity was not disclosed by Sunrise police, found the camera in her bedroom and bathroom after finding pictures of herself on a household computer that the family used, records show.

The daughter searched the computer because she thought Bordeaux was having an affair. She found the pictures inside a computer folder in his “profile” that, at the time, was not password protected. (Read more from “She Suspected an Affair, Then She Found a Camera” HERE)

U.S. Flags Turned Into KKK Hoods, Professor Calls It Art

A professor has shaped three American flags into KKK hoods in what she’s proudly calling her latest work of art.

Billie Grace Lynn, an associate professor of sculpture at the University of Miami, has dubbed it “American Mask.”

“American Mask is a work suggesting that bigotry and racism are hiding behind our American flag,” Lynn writes on her personal website. “By using the shape of KKK hoods made from the American flags I point to our sad history of intolerance and violence and hope that the work acts to awaken citizens to the danger of confusing bigotry with patriotism.” . . .

“Almost as soon as American Mask was placed in the window, arguments began. Miami New Times is located in the same building as the gallery, and an employee posted a picture on Facebook. Dozens of commenters called it everything from ‘disgusting’ to ‘patriotic,’” the Miami New Times reports. (Read more from “U.S. Flags Turned Into KKK Hoods, Professor Calls It Art” HERE)

Now It’s ‘Pregnant People,’ Not ‘Pregnant Women’

In a move that has created head-shaking across the United Kingdom, the government has insisted that the United Nations replace the term “pregnant women” in an official document with “pregnant people” to avoid offense.

The dispute arose because the nation’s Foreign and Commonwealth Office wanted to avoid excluding “transgender people who have given birth,” meaning women who “identify” as men.

The U.K. policy office was reviewing the U.N.’s International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights, which was signed by the U.K. in 1976, some 10 years after it was created.

One line in that document states the death penalty “shall not be carried out on pregnant women.” (Read more from “Now It’s ‘Pregnant People,’ Not ‘Pregnant Women'” HERE)

Surrogate Mom Gives Birth to Own Biological Son

A woman who gave birth to her own child at the same time as she delivered a surrogate baby has been reunited with her son after a long legal battle.

“I was heartbroken knowing I carried a baby I didn’t know was mine and that he was taken from me without my knowledge and was in the arms of other people where he did not belong,” Jessica Allen told The Independent.

The 31-year-old had decided to undergo a commercial surrogacy so that she could put the money towards a deposit on a home with her partner Wardell Jasper, 34.

The practice is legal in California where they live and Ms Allen, who already had two children of her own, agreed a fee of $35,000 (£26,600) to give birth to another woman’s child.

But after undergoing in vitro fertilisation (IVF), doctors told Ms Allen she was carrying two baby boys. (Read more from “Surrogate Mom Gives Birth to Own Biological Son” HERE)

Lesbian Privilege: Ellen Shares Tweet Only She Can Get Away With in Wake of Weinstein Scandal

In the wake of the monstrous Harvey Weinstein sexual assault scandal blowing up Hollywood, happy-go-lucky daytime host Ellen DeGeneres tweeted an image and a caption only she could get away with.

“Happy birthday, @KatyPerry,” Ellen wished to pop singer and fellow Trump-hater Katy Perry. “It’s time to bring out the big balloons!” she added, clearly referring to Perry’s breasts.

The photo accompanying the caption is one of Ellen staring straight at Ms. Perry’s rack:

The loud feminists eager to blast straight men for their apparent innate toxicity were oddly silent. The #MeToo brigade willing to even blast 90-year-old ex-presidents? Silencio.

This is what you might call “lesbian privilege.” (Read more from “Lesbian Privilege: Ellen Shares Tweet Only She Can Get Away With in Wake of Weinstein Scandal” HERE)
