DC Comics Slammed for Going ‘Woke’ With New Pregnant Joker

DC Comics critics are reacting to a newly released backup storyline featuring Batman villain the Joker as pregnant, calling it “massive toxicity and woke behavior.”

In The Joker: The Man Who Stopped Laughing #4, a backup story titled “Knocked Upside Down” shows Joker getting pregnant after nemesis magician Zatanna casts a spell on him, resulting in him giving birth throughout a glorified dream sequence.

Backlash stirred across social media as a panel from the new comic storyline began to circulate.

“Massive toxicity & woke behavior by DC Comics,” a tweet stated. “Seriously, something needs to be done to weed out this idiotic behavior. Why the hell did they make Joker Pregnant!” (Read more from “DC Comics Slammed for Going ‘Woke’ With New Pregnant Joker” HERE)

McCarthy Confronts Gaetz After Failing Again to Secure House Speakership

Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) was on the verge Friday night of becoming the next speaker of the House — but was left one vote short when old foe Rep. Matt Gaetz derailed his chances by voting “present.”

Gaetz’s antics in the 14th ballot of the marathon speakership contest led to a stunning scene on the House floor as McCarthy slowly walked up the gallery steps to confront the Florida lawmaker with an icy stare.

The two spoke animatedly for roughly a minute, with lawmakers huddled around them, before McCarthy walked away in disgust. He then turned back and approached Gaetz again, pointing his finger at him as the tensions continued to boil.

Adding to the wild scene, Mike Rogers of Alabama had to be restrained by Richard Hudson of North Carolina as he appeared to lunge angrily toward Gaetz.

By that point, McCarthy seemed to realize that the negotiations weren’t getting anywhere and he walked back toward his seat with an irritated expression on his face.

Report: 16-Year-Old Student Dies During ‘Athletic Event’

A 16-year-old Las Vegas high school student-athlete has died after suffering a “medical emergency” during an “athletic event” Thursday night, the school’s principal stated.

The student, Ashari Hughes, was reportedly competing in a game on Desert Oasis High School’s varsity flag football team when she collapsed. The school’s principal, Ian Salzman, announced Hughes’ death in an email to the school community.

“Staff immediately began providing medical aid and continued until paramedics arrived. It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the student passed away,” Salzman wrote.

The Clark County Coroner’s Office has yet to determine the high schooler’s cause of death.

The superintendent of Clark County School District (CCSD), Jesus Jara, released a statement following Hughes’ tragic death. “The loss of this young life deeply saddens us, and our thoughts are with the student’s friends, family, and loved ones,” Jara began.

Transgender Worker Sues Employer for Denying ‘Gender-Affirming’ Health Coverage

A biological man who identifies as a transgender woman filed a discrimination complaint against his Christian employer for denying coverage for “gender-affirming” care.

According to the complaint, Lillian Bernier, 31, lives with “gender dysphoria” and is seeking irreversible transgender care to “live consistent with their gender identity.” Bernier works as a machinist for a company based in New Hampshire called Turbocam that makes parts for the HVAC, automotive, aviation and space exploration industries. The complaint alleges that his company is discriminating against his for not covering hormone therapy, counseling, and surgery to transition (via Boston.com):

The complaint was filed Dec. 16 with the New Hampshire Human Rights Commission, as well as the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

“Lillian is just asking to be treated with the same dignity, humanity, and fairness as other employees of the company,” said Bernier’s lawyer, Chris Erchull, of GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders in Boston.

“By maintaining a blanket exclusion of coverage for any health care related to transgender transition, the company is providing Lillian and any other transgender employees, presently or in the future, a lesser tier of benefits,” Erchull said. “It sends a message that her healthcare needs are not legitimate.”

Poll: 1 in 4 Americans Thinks Someone They Know May Have Died Due to COVID Shot; China’s Xi Rebuffs US Offers for COVID Vaccines to Prevent Pandemic Resurgence

By The Federalist. The U.S. government has still not formally admitted to any deaths directly attributable to the fast-tracked, emergency-authorized mRNA Covid shots, which comprise the vast majority of all doses administered, rolled out more than two years ago. Nevertheless, a new Rasmussen poll finds more than a quarter of adults think they “personally know someone whose death may have been caused by side effects of the COVID-19 vaccines.”

Rasmussen’s results are stunning, but the fact that Rasmussen decided to conduct this poll in the first place is perhaps more politically and culturally significant. It indicates a sea change in attitudes toward the jabs.

At the onset of mass vaccination, major platforms including Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter put in place strict speech codes that proscribe framing the Covid shots as “dangerous.” News outlets and pundits have often accused those who question the safety of the shots of spreading “dangerous misinformation” and promoting “vaccine hesitancy.” Even right-leaning outlets such as Fox News largely refused to give credence to those warning that the shots may be far less safe than advertised. Yet now, in 2023, a major polling firm is reporting that a substantial minority (28 percent) of Americans suspect someone they know died from adverse events caused by Covid vaccination. . .

The poll also found younger people were more likely than older people to say someone they know may have died due to side effects from the shot: 35 percent of adults under 40, compared to 28 percent of those aged 40 to 64, and only 14 percent of those over 65.

Most interestingly, more Democrats than Republicans think someone they know may have died from jab side effects (33 percent to 26 percent). Democrats are more likely to have been vaccinated themselves, and thus more likely to associate with people who are also vaccinated. The more people one knows who have been vaccinated, the higher the likelihood of reporting a suspicion of vaccine-related death. China’s Xi Rebuffs US Offers for COVID Vaccines to Prevent Pandemic Resurgence

By Bloomberg. China has rebuffed repeated US offers to share advanced vaccines as Beijing battles a fast-spreading wave of Covid-19, a rejection that’s led to growing frustration among American officials concerned about a resurgence of the pandemic.

Worried about the rise of new variants and impact on China’s economy, the US has repeatedly offered mRNA vaccines and other assistance to President Xi Jinping’s government through private channels, according to US officials who asked not to be identified discussing the deliberations.

US officials have also proposed indirect ways to supply the vaccines in an effort to accommodate political sensitivities in China on accepting foreign aid, they said, without providing more details.

The US offers have been made by senior diplomats, including during a December trip to China by Assistant Secretary of State Daniel Kritenbrink and National Security Council Senior Director Laura Rosenberger, as well as through public health officials and intermediaries. Although US officials have said publicly that they’ve offered vaccines to China, the full extent of that outreach hasn’t been previously reported. Damar Hamlin Wakes Up, Asks Doctors ‘Who Won the Game?’

Stricken NFL player Damar Hamlin has shown vast improvement today and is reportedly awake, moving his hands and feet, and even writing messages to respond to questions.

Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said Thursday that Hamlin has made “substantial improvement” after his cardiac arrest on the field during the Jan. 3 broadcast of the NFL’s Monday Night Football.

While Hamlin is still considered “critically ill,” one of the doctors, Timothy Pritts, told the media on Thursday that the player’s cognitive functions seem intact, according to ESPN.

The doctors added that Hamlin is moving his extremities and has been able to write answers to questions. However, they noted that he is still intubated and on a respirator, so he is unable to speak.

Pritts said that one of Hamlin’s first questions was whether the Bills won the game on Monday. (Read more from “Damar Hamlin Wakes Up, Asks Doctors ‘Who Won the Game?’” HERE)

Family of Late Capitol Police Officer Sues Trump for $10 Million

The fiancee of a Capitol Police officer is suing Donald Trump, accusing the former president of his wrongful death and other damages.

Sandra Garza, representing the estate of Officer Brian Sicknick, is reportedly seeking $10 million from the 2024 Republican presidential-primary hopeful, saying he was at fault in the Jan. 6 riots.

The lawsuit charges that Sicknick’s death was the result of Mr. Trump’s rhetoric and claims that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from him.

“As a direct and foreseeable consequence of Defendant Trump’s false and incendiary allegations of fraud and theft, and in direct response to Defendant Trump’s express calls for violence at the rally, a violent mob attacked the U.S. Capitol,” the lawsuit said.

Two men, Julian Khater and George Tanios, have pleaded guilty to assault charges related to the attack on Sicknick, and they also are named in the lawsuit. (Read more from “Family of Late Capitol Police Officer Sues Trump for $10 Million” HERE)

Loudoun County Dad Arrested for ‘Trespassing’ at Local Public School Board Meeting Found Not Guilty

A Loudoun County father, whose arrest at a June 2021 school board meeting was used by the Biden administration to justify a politicized attack on concerned parents, was found not guilty of trespassing on Wednesday.

Law enforcement arrested Jon Tigges at a Loudoun school board meeting on June 22, 2021, after he tried expressing concerns about the school district’s “moral decay.” A Virginia district judge found Tigges guilty in October of 2021. Loudoun Circuit Judge Douglas Fleming Jr., however, cleared Tigges of any wrongdoing.

Fleming determined that Tigges not only had a First Amendment right to attend the heated meeting but also that the superintendent who shut down the official gathering last summer had no right to declare it an “unlawful assembly.”

“My thanks to God for justice,” Tigges wrote on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon. (Read more from “Loudoun County Dad Arrested for ‘Trespassing’ at Local Public School Board Meeting Found Not Guilty” HERE)

Biden Yet Again Refers to His Vice President as ‘President Harris’ During Border Speech

President Biden yet again referred to his vice president, Kamala Harris, as “President Harris” during Thursday remarks on immigration at the White House.

“President Harris led this effort — led this effort to make things better in the countries from which they are leaving,” the 80-year-old president said.

Later in his remarks, Biden correctly identified Harris as the “vice president.”

The oldest-ever president has made the same error in public on at least five prior occasions.

In October, Biden called Harris a “great president” while wishing her a happy birthday. (Read more from “Biden Yet Again Refers to His Vice President as ‘President Harris’ During Border Speech” HERE)

Kevin McCarthy Fails on 9th House Ballot — First Time in 200 Years

The often-raucous House chamber was left in a sleepy state of suspended animation Thursday as members failed to elect a speaker for the ninth time in a little over 48 hours and proceeded to a 10th ballot for the first time in nearly 200 years.

About half the House scrolled through their phones as they voted on the ninth ballot, apparently bored with the lack of progress over the last three days. In fact, GOP leader Kevin McCarthy lost another vote when Rep.-elect Ken Buck of Colorado excused himself for a doctor’s appointment, leaving the Californian on 200 votes — down from 201 earlier in the day.

Though McCarthy reportedly gave in to demands overnight by a contingent of hardline conservative Republicans blocking his bid for the gavel, the floor fight was no closer to a resolution. During the ninth vote, 17 of the 20 Republican members opposing McCarthy voted for Rep.-elect Byron Donalds of Florida and three voted for Rep.-elect Kevin Hern of Oklahoma.

As on the previous three ballots, Rep.-elect Victoria Spartz (R-Ind.) voted “present,” lowering the magic number for any candidate by one from the 218 threshold needed on Tuesday’s first three ballots.

House Democrats remained united in their support of Brooklyn and Queens Rep.-elect Hakeem Jeffries, giving him all 212 of their votes for the seventh, eighth and ninth consecutive ballots. (Read more from “Kevin McCarthy Fails on 9th House Ballot — First Time in 200 Years” HERE)
