The man who waterboarded 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed is standing by the CIA’s controversial enhanced interrogation program, saying the intelligence agency and its agents “had to do our duty.”

In an interview with Daily Signal senior independent contributor Sharyl Attkisson, James Mitchell, a former Air Force psychologist, shared his thoughts on the controversial Senate Intelligence Committee report on the CIA’s enhanced interrogation program. Mitchell has faced threats since Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif, released the report last week.

“We had to do our duty,” he told Attkisson of the enhanced interrogation techniques used on terror suspects. “We were trying to save American lives. The point is that we had just been hit after 9/11 in an attack where they tried to decapitate us.”

Mitchell is one of the men who waterboarded Mohammed and terror suspect Abu Zubaydah. The psychologist assisted the CIA in developing the controversial enhanced interrogation program.

The Senate Intelligence Committee’s investigation, conducted by Democrats, concluded that the CIA did not glean any new information through the interrogation techniques that saved American lives. Mitchell, who has been waterboarded himself, disagreed.

WATCH: Obama Launched 'Profanity-Laced' Tirades…

According to retired ABC News journalist Ann Compton, Barack Obama launches into “profanity-laced” tirades against the press in off-the-record meetings with reporters. In a C-SPAN interview, Compton also derided the President for leading “the most opaque” administration of “any I have covered.”

The journalist, who retired in August after a 40-year career, revealed to C-SPAN’s Brian Lamb: “I have seen in the last year Barack Obama really angry twice. Both were off-the-record times. One, profanity-laced where he thought the press was making too much of scandals that he did not think were scandals.”

She explained, “And I don’t find him apologetic. But I find him willing to stand up to the press and look them in the eye, even though it was off the record and just give us hell.”

After Lamb wondered if the President had a point, she chided, “We cover what we are allowed to cover. And when policy decisions and presidents are inaccessible and don’t take questions from the press on a regular basis, I think they reap what they sow.”

BOSTON – Crews removed a time capsule dating back to 1795 on Thursday from the granite cornerstone of the Massachusetts Statehouse, where historians believe it was originally placed by Revolutionary War luminaries Samuel Adams and Paul Revere among others.

The time capsule is believed to contain items such as old coins and newspapers, but the condition of the contents is not known and Secretary of State William Galvin speculated that some could have deteriorated over time.

Officials won’t open the capsule until after it is X-rayed at Boston’s Museum of Fine Arts to determine its contents. The X-ray is scheduled for Sunday.

Oldest Time Capsule in US Unearthed at Massachusetts State House

By Michele McPhee

Conservators from the Boston Museum of Fine Arts labored in the chill and snow for hours today to unearth what is believed to be the oldest unopened time capsule in the country, buried under the Golden Dome of the Massachusetts State House in 1795 by then-Governor Samuel Adams and Paul Revere, according to state records.

The 219-year-old capsule is made of cowhide and was initially discovered during State House renovations in 1855. When the repairs were complete, the state’s 23rd governor, Henry Gardner, re-buried it in the granite cornerstone of the historic building, adding new items, including coins…

Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin oversaw the painstaking efforts to preserve the capsule’s contents for much of today. He told ABC News that after the capsule was found by workers overhauling a water irrigation system in the building, state records were uncovered about the capsule that indicate it contained coins that date between 1652 and 1855, an engraved silver Paul Revere plate, newspapers, a Commonwealth seal and a title page from the Massachusetts Colony Records.

WATCH – Hannity: Boehner 'Grubered' Conservatives with Cromnibus

The Republican-controlled House of Representatives — driven forward by arm-twisting, deal-making Speaker John Boehner — narrowly passed a massive government spending bill late Thursday and sent the measure to the Senate for final approval.

By a vote of 219-206, the House okayed the $1.1 trillion measure after Boehner and company cobbled together enough votes — Republican and Democrat — to avoid a possible government shutdown with only hours to spare.

A number of conservative Republicans are angry with Speaker Boehner, who they feel essentially broke trust with the voters by giving the president and his Democrat allies what they need to keep ObamaCare going and to move forward with Obama’s executive actions on amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants.

Among those thoroughly ticked off at Boehner is Fox News host Sean Hannity. On his show Thursday, Hannity blasted Boehner, saying that he is “everything that is wrong with Washington.”

Hannity went on to say that Boehner should not be Speaker of the House and “should be replaced.”

WATCH: In Farewell Speech, Sen. Coburn Issues Warning to and Hope for America

Fighting back tears Wednesday Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) used his final words to the U.S. Senate to warn his colleagues of perils he perceives to the continued existence of the United States as a republic – but also to deliver a message of hope.

After thanking a number of Senate members and personal staff, Coburn quickly turned to a more serious topic reminding the dozens of his colleagues gathered for the speech that most republics in history have perished. Strict adherence to the Constitution and the founders’ intent, Coburn said, was the only way the U.S. could buck that trend.

“Can we cheat history?” he asked rhetorically. “Can we do something better than has been done in the past?

“I honestly believe we can,” continued Coburn. “But I don’t believe we can if we continue to ignore the wisdom of our founding documents.”

Coburn went on to issue a warning to his colleagues, suggesting many had abandoned their responsibility to protect and defend the Constitution, instead focusing their work on bringing back federal monies to their home states.

Thanks to a bloodbath in the midterm elections, Republicans now control both the House and Senate, and they are setting their sights on the White House for 2016. They are undoubtedly energized by young and diverse representatives such as Mia Love, the first African American Republican woman in the House, and Elise Stefanik, the youngest woman to be elected to Congress.

In West Virginia, Saira Blair won a seat in House of Delegates, becoming the nation’s youngest elected state legislator.

Blair and her father, state Sen. Craig Blair, sat down with Yahoo Global News anchor Katie Couric to discuss her inspiration to run, her historic win, and hope for her generation in the political process. “My generation is going to have $17 trillion of debt on our hands. And we deserve at least one vote in the House of Delegates. Because we shouldn’t have to wait until we’re 30, 40, 50 or 60 to understand the importance of conservative principles,” Blair said.

WATCH: Senator Ridicules Obama for Not Signing Amnesty Order

Signing AmnestySen. Jeff Sessions, R-Ala., a leading opponent of President Obama’s move to provide amnesty for up to 5 million illegal immigrants, expressed astonishment Monday and ridiculed the administration for not carrying out the action through an executive order.

In remarks made at the Washington office of the government-watchdog group Judicial Watch, Sessions said: “I guess they just whispered in the ear of (DHS Director) Jeh Johnson over at Homeland Security, ‘Just put out a memo. That way we don’t have to enforce the law.’”

The news that Obama had not signed an executive order to carry out the policy he announced to the nation in a televised address Nov. 20 was broken by WND Senior Staff Writer Jerome Corsi last week.

As a result of the president’s use of a memo instead of an official order, the senator observed: “We don’t even have a really significant, direct, legal direction that we can ascertain, precisely what the president is doing. It’s a stunning event in my view.”

The senator believes the result was “the creation of a new, alternative immigration system” despite the fact the president “is not empowered to do that.”

WATCH: After Ferguson Protester Burns an American Flag – These National Guardsmen Do Something Incredible

By Brian Hayes.

Saturday night in Ferguson, Missouri, Communist and ‘Palestinian’ protesters came to town and descended on the police station…

They chanted for the National Guard troops guarding the station to “turn your guns around and shoot the bosses down” — meaning to kill the police inside, causing even some in the media to gasp in shock.

And then they did a truly vile act: they burned an American flag and taunted the troops while doing it.

The protesters reveled in their hatred for America.

But those who faced off with these “protesters” love America, and showed it in an incredible display of patriotism and respect for that flag, and those who died fighting beneath it.

They left their post at the police station, and went across the street to where these vile protesters were gathered — to try and retrieve that flag.

Former NBA Star Charles Barkley Slams Ferguson Rioters, Leftstream Media and Obama

By Jennifer Burke.

One thing you can say about former NBA star and current analyst Charles Barkley is that he is not afraid to speak his mind. Like many other celebrities, Barkley has spoken out about the decision by a Ferguson grand jury to not indict Officer Darren Wilson in the death of Michael Brown and the aftermath that has ensued. However, Barkley’s stance may come as a surprise to some.

During an interview on 97.5 The Fanatic in Philadelphia with Mike Missanelli on Tuesday, the day after the decision was announced, Barkley was asked to share his thoughts on Ferguson. Missanelli asked Barkley why he thought black people didn’t trust the Ferguson decision. Mind you, this is a loaded question to begin with because the radio host has lumped black people together in one collective group who all possess the same feelings and reactions to the decision. Barkley’s answer undoubtedly surprised the radio host.

Unlike others who have ignored the evidence and grand jury testimony as they perpetuate the ‘hands up, don’t shoot’ lie while destroying private property and endangering innocent people by blocking traffic and overtaking malls, Barkley thinks it is important to pay attention to the testimony given to the grand jury because that is what tells the true story.
