The Nut That Slays Pesky Pounds, Diabetes and High Cholesterol

. . .A team of researchers from the United States and Mexico applied whole pecans, a pecan polyphenol extract and high-fat diets to mice models to see what impact they might have on the development of metabolic abnormalities.

According to the results, supplementing a high-fat diet with whole pecans or a pecan polyphenol extract:

Reduced fat mass by 44 percent and serum cholesterol by 40 percent;

Enhanced glucose tolerance by 37 percent, prevented the enlargement of pancreatic islet cells;

And increased oxygen consumption by 27 percent!

. . .The researchers also observed anti-inflammatory properties in pecans. The mice fed pecans or pecan polyphenol extract showed a reduction in low-grade inflammation, which can lead to chronic inflammation and subsequent inflammation-related diseases. This Common Over the Counter Medication May Significantly Increase the Risk of Brain Bleeds

Taking daily, low-dose aspirin may increase older adults’ risk of brain bleeds while doing very little to lower the risk of ischemic stroke, a new study finds.

While it was at one point fairly common for older adults to be advised to take low-dose aspirin for the sake of stroke prevention, research—and the paralleling medical advice—is shifting.

The new research is the latest evidence to show that routine use of low-dose aspirin is not suited for older adults with no history of heart conditions or history of strokes. Findings did suggest that older people who are prone to falls, which can cause brain bleeds, should be cautious of taking aspirin.

“Amongst older people, low-dose aspirin appears to lead to an increased risk of intracranial hemorrhage of various types,” Professor John McNeil, an author of the paper and Professor of Epidemiology & Preventive Medicine at the School of Public Health & Preventive Medicine at Monash University told Health.

“It emphasizes the need to avoid aspirin as a primary preventive intervention in older people,” McNeil said. (Read more from “This Common Over the Counter Medication May Significantly Increase the Risk of Brain Bleeds” HERE)

‘Bud Light Them’: Skittles Sparks Outrage After Strange Pro-LGBTQ Packaging

We’ve got another Bud Light on our hands, ladies and gents!

After putting out some strange pro-LGBTQ packaging, Skittles is getting blasted with lash back from Americans who have now turned sour on the candy. In fact, they’re now gloriously calling for a Bud Light-style boycott on the rainbow brand.

Skittles’ parent company, the Wrigley Company (which is owned by Mars Incorporated), sparked outrage after switching up the traditional rainbow packaging for messages and illustrations that promote the LGBTQ community. Now black and white, the packaging features phrases such as “Black Trans Lives Matter” and “Joy is Resistance.”

Designed in a collaboration with the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, this is the fourth year that Skittles has worked with the organization to promote LGBTQ sentiment.

And the backlash towards Skittles has been great ever since:

First Amendment Concerns Raised After Police Seize Materials From Small-Town Kansas Newspaper Office and Staff Homes During Raid

A small-town newspaper in Kansas is raising First Amendment questions on a national level after local police raided its office and homes of staffers on Friday, seizing material linked to alleged identity theft violations.

Marion County Record, a family-owned weekly newspaper published in the midwestern state about 60 miles north of Wichita, was named in a search warrant signed by Marion County Court Magistrate Judge Laura Viar on Friday morning, which alleges violations of identity theft and “unlawful acts concerning computers.” CNN reported.

Eric Meyer, co-owner and publisher of the paper founded more than 150 years ago in the small city of Marion, reportedly said four Marion police officers and three sheriff’s deputies seized personal cell phones, computers, and other materials at his home and Marion County Record office, including some unrelated equipment needed to publish.

“Our first priority is to be able to publish next week,” Meyer said. “But we also want to make sure no other news organization is ever exposed to the Gestapo tactics we witnessed today.”

Reporter Deb Gruver wrote in a post on Facebook she had filed a report with the Kansas Bureau of Investigation that accused Marion, Kansas Police Chief Gideon Cody of re-injuring a previously dislocated finger after he allegedly “forcibly yanked” her cell phone from her hand. Dem Senator Blames Climate Change for Historic Maui Wildfires. But Here’s What the National Weather Service Said.

Sen. Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii) suggested Sunday that climate change played a role in the massive Maui wildfires that killed almost 100 people and left more than 1,000 others missing.

But meteorologists and other scientific experts say not so fast.

On CNN’s “State of the Union,” host Jake Tapper teed up Hirono to blame climate change for the tragic event — and she took the bait. . .

Last Sunday, the National Weather Service warned that a high-pressure system north of the Hawaiian islands, combined with a strong low-pressure cyclone in category 4 Hurricane Dora passing to the south of the islands, would create a “strong pressure gradient” over Hawaii.

Translation: it’s going to be warm and dry, and there will be a strong chance of damaging winds. That means the potential for wildfires will be higher than normal.

‘Lied to From the Beginning’: RFK Jr Discusses JFK Assassination, Ukraine War With Tucker Carlson (VIDEO)

Presidential candidate Robert F. Kennedy Jr. explained his political views and theorized who allegedly killed his uncle, former President John F. Kennedy, during an interview with Daily Caller co-founder Tucker Carlson.

Kennedy discussed the alleged lies about the Ukraine war and the Central Intelligence Agency’s (CIA) alleged involvement in his uncle’s death during an interview released Tuesday. He also said the media is lying to Americans about the background of the Ukraine war while ignoring the complexities between Ukraine and Russia.

“When it come to the Ukraine War, I mean we’re being lied to about it,” Kennedy said.

“In what way?” Carlson asked.

“Well, I mean we were lied to from the beginning. You know, we had this comic book depiction, which we see in on war, there’s a bad guy who’s like, you know, unspeakably evil, who’s planning world conquest or a terrorist attack on America and we have to be the good guys going in and stopping. And Ukraine, the background of the Ukraine War is much more complex than that. You know, the U.S. has been involved in, particularly the neocons in the White House … since 2001, have been talking about putting NATO in Ukraine.” (Read more from “‘Lied to From the Beginning’: RFK Jr Discusses JFK Assassination, Ukraine War With Tucker Carlson” HERE)

Photos: Montana Woman Survives ‘Vicious and Relentless’ Otter Attack

A woman was severely injured when a not-so-cute otter attacked her as she tubed on a river recently near Bozeman, Montana.

As Jen Royce and two of her friends floated down the Jefferson River, the otter caught them off guard and its behavior was terrifying, the New York Post reported Sunday.

Royce noticed one of the animals behind her friend just before it jumped the individual. However, she noted, “I didn’t even have a chance to get the words ‘there is an otter behind you’ out of me before it attacked her.”

In a social media post describing the harrowing experience, Royce said, “Being in the middle of the river meant I couldn’t reach the bottom with my feet, so I was trying to tread water while fending for my body.” (Read more from “Photos: Montana Woman Survives ‘Vicious and Relentless’ Otter Attack” HERE)

The Ukrainian Prosecutor Joe Biden Had Fired Is Speaking Out (VIDEO)

Former Ukrainian prosecutor Viktor Shokin is speaking out and revealing his side of the story after then Vice President Joe Biden demanded he be fired back in 2016.

At the time of his firing, Shokin was investigating corruption at Ukrainian gas company Burisma — the same company that was paying Hunter Biden $80,000 per month to sit on the board.

During closed door testimony in front of the House Oversight Committee earlier this week, Hunter Biden’s former business partner — Devon Archer — said he believed Burisma would have gone under if not for the Biden “brand” — including Joe Biden — being attached to the company.

“My only thought is that I think Burisma would have gone out of business if it didn’t have the brand attached to it,” Archer said. (Read more from “The Ukrainian Prosecutor Joe Biden Had Fired Is Speaking Out (VIDEO)” HERE)

Mom of Two Dies From Drinking Too Much Water After Feeling Dehydrated on Family Trip

An Indiana mother of two who told her family it felt like she couldn’t drink enough water to feel satiated collapsed and died from water toxicity — a rare consequence of drinking too much water too quickly.

Ashley Summers, 35, was out at Lake Freeman with her husband and two young daughters over the Fourth of July weekend when she began feeling severely dehydrated.

“Someone said she drank four bottles of water in 20 minutes,” her brother Devon Miller told WRTV. “I mean, an average water bottle is like 16 ounces, so that was 64 ounces that she drank in a span of 20 minutes. That’s half a gallon. That’s what you’re supposed to drink in a whole day.” . . .

“My sister, Holly, called me, and she was just an absolute wreck. She was like ‘Ashley is in the hospital. She has brain swelling, they don’t know what’s causing it, they don’t know what they can do to get it to go down, and it’s not looking good,’” said Miller.

She never regained consciousness, and doctors told her family she had died from water toxicity. (Read more from “Mom of Two Dies From Drinking Too Much Water After Feeling Dehydrated on Family Trip” HERE)
