Have They Found a Cure for the Coronavirus? Australian Researchers Claim Two Existing Drugs Could ‘Cure’ COVID-19; First Person Injected With Trial Coronavirus Vaccine in Seattle

By Daily Mail. Drugs used to treat HIV and malaria could be used to tackle the coronavirus, according to scientists in Australia.

A team of infectious disease experts at the University of Queensland in Brisbane say they have seen two existing medications manage to wipe out COVID-19 infections.

Chloroquine, an anti-malarial drug, and HIV-suppressing combination lopinavir/ritonavir have both reportedly shown promising results in human tests and made the virus ‘disappear’ in infected patients.

The drugs are being tested as researchers and doctors around the world scramble to try and find a vaccine, cure or treatment for the deadly virus. . .

Professor Paterson said it wouldn’t be wrong to consider the drugs a possible ‘treatment or cure’ for the deadly respiratory infection. (Read more from “Have They Found a Cure for the Coronavirus? Australian Researchers Claim Two Existing Drugs Could ‘Cure’ COVID-19” HERE)

First Person Injected With Trial Coronavirus Vaccine in Seattle

By Forbes. A new phase 1 clinical trial of a potential vaccine for the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus began on Monday in Seattle, as the first person to enroll in the trial received the vaccine.

The vaccine, mRNA-1273, was developed by biotechnology company Moderna in combination with researchers from the National Institutes of Health (NIH). The trial is being conducted at Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute in Seattle.

The phase 1 study aims to test three different doses of the mRNA-1273 vaccine ad hopes to recruit 45 healthy adults for the initial trial. Participants will receive two shots of the vaccine, 28 days apart and will be monitored to evaluate both the safety and immunogenicity of the vaccine. The latter involves seeing how well the vaccine stimulates an immune response to a protein on the SARS-CoV2 coronavirus surface.

The first person to get the vaccine was 43-year old Jennifer Haller from Seattle who said; “I hope that we get to a working vaccine quickly and that we can save lives and people can go back to life as soon as possible,” in an interview with TIME.

“This study is the first step in the clinical development of an mRNA vaccine against SARS-CoV-2, and we expect it to provide important information about safety and immunogenicity,” said Tal Zaks, M.D., Ph.D., Chief Medical Officer at Moderna in a press release. He added that Moderna is already working with the FDA and other organizations to prepare for a phase 2 trial, which would involve larger numbers of patients. Robert Mueller’s Biggest ‘Bombshell’ Indictment Just Got Dismissed With Prejudice

. . .The Mueller investigation produced several indictments, most of which centered on supposedly lying to the FBI. Figures like Michael Flynn and George Papadopoulos took center stage, having not been proven to have done anything wrong in regards to Russia, but being relentlessly targeted because there had to be some scalps taken.

But there was one case that was said to have proven the Mueller investigation to not be a waste of time. It involved the indictment of a Russian company called “Concord.” Mueller claimed that said company was a front to conduct a full-scale information war against the United States during the 2016 election. This was supposed to prove the nefarious “election interference” we’d all heard so much about. When Mueller dropped the indictment, the media gasped and claimed vindication. Breathless editorials were written at record pace.

Well, it looks like the only real shot Mueller took just missed its target.

Rep. Tlaib Retweets: ‘F**K a National Day of Prayer’

Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) at the weekend retweeted a post on Twitter which said in part “F**k a National day of prayer,” in relation to President Trump’s call for Americans of all faiths to pray for all those affected by the coronavirus outbreak.

Late Saturday, anti-gun activist David Hogg posted a tweet, saying, “Don’t let this administration address COVID-19 like our national gun violence epidemic. F**k a National day of prayer, we need immediate comprehensive action.”

Tlaib, a Palestinian-American and one of the first two Muslim women to be elected to the U.S. Congress, retweeted it, without comment.

Hogg’s tweet linked to a video clip from Saturday’s briefing of the White House coronavirus taskforce. (Read more from “Rep. Tlaib Retweets: ‘F**K a National Day of Prayer’” HERE)

As Ordinary Citizen Life Grinds to Halt, Government Still Flying in Refugees From Around the World

Just how much of a religion is open-borders immigration? Evidently refugee resettlement from around the world, at least as of last week, was continuing.

The great American shutdown has grown so severe that in my community, all funerals have been canceled. Graveside funerals are the only way to burry our dead. New Jersey has already instituted a curfew with business closures at 8:00 p.m. One would think that shutting off international travel and immigration – the very first line of defense that directly addresses the source of importing diseases – would have long been shut down before we begin infringing upon domestic liberties. Not so. If this country shuts down completely, mass migration will continue, at least on some level.

It’s now self-evident that had we shut off international travel earlier and had we suspended all immigration, visas, and travel from China and Iran in December, this problem would be much more manageable. Yet, in Orwellian fashion, it looks like elements of immigration might be the last activity standing in this county. Ann Corcoran of the Refugee Resettlement Blog observes today that, at least as of last week, the State Department was bringing in refugees at the same clip as before and the Office of Refugee Resettlement was still settling them in our communities.

According to Corcoran, 1,768 refugees arrived in the U.S. between February 15 and yesterday. She noted that 488 have arrived even over the last seven days; 109 were brought in on Thursday. Those numbers might not sound like a lot, but remember Trump had already curtailed the numbers in general. One has to wonder if we’d continue the normal pace had Trump not reduced the numbers for other reasons. The existing pace has not slowed down at all.

A search of the State Department database shows the following countries as the largest sources of refugees over the past 30 days: Congo (728) followed by Ukraine (278), Burma(136), Iraq, (130) and Pakistan (50).

Shockingly, Washington state is the second most common destination of resettlement over the past month. That is the hardest-hit state by coronavirus, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the national fatalities from the virus.

Even if the government is more carefully screening refugees for health concerns, why would we strain our services and create a logistical problem to bring in more immigrants at a time when we are shutting down many aspects of ordinary life for Americans?

“Consider that right now we are bringing in the largest numbers of refugees being processed through Ukraine and through Malaysia, which has seen a recent spike in coronavirus cases,” said Corcoran in an interview with CR. “Those refugees, including the large numbers coming in through Africa, are traveling through airports on three continents. American volunteers working for resettlement agencies are then contractually required to meet the arriving refugees in airports across the country and take them to their new apartment, thus exposing even more Americans to possible contact with the COVID-19 virus. Seems insane to me as the government is telling us to put our lives on hold and stay home.”

As Corcoran pointed out in her blog post, Malaysia is one of the largest processing countries for the refugees we admit from Burma and other countries. Just this Sunday, there were nearly 200 more coronavirus cases reported after 16,000 people congregated in a mosque near Kuala Lumpur.

It’s also shocking how one of the biggest sources of refugee resettlement over the past year is Congo, a country that only this week finally shut down the deadly Ebola outbreak.

Meanwhile, as of last week, we were still processing asylum claims at our border, including for Chinese nationals, rather than turning them around. One has to wonder if, absent the Supreme Court stay on the Ninth Circuit’s order to bring in caravans, the DHS would blithely have brought them in.

Orwell could not have written a script like this.

It appears that the religion of open borders is contagious throughout the world. Evidently, according to the Jerusalem Post, Germany didn’t suspend flights even from hard-hit Iran until today, after the public voiced outrage! Ezra Levant, the head of Rebel News in Canada, has been tracking flights in real time still arriving in Vancouver from China itself! Finally, in this eleventh hour, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has shut off travel – several months too late.

It is self-evident that with any “coronavirus response” from Congress, we need legislation requiring the president to immediately shut off all travel and visas from other countries as soon as our government is aware of a contagious and deadly outbreak. We should also suspend all elective immigration, such as refugee and asylum, from any country until the epidemic has subsided.

In early January, I called for a suspension of all travel from countries with coronavirus cases. I often saw responses on Twitter suggesting that such action would be too disruptive. Well, now we are going to learn the hard way what real disruption looks like. Meanwhile, refugee and asylum immigration might never be disrupted. Hillary Makes ‘Desperate’ Appeal to Avoid Testifying About Emails — Says She’s Too Important

Hillary Clinton asked an appeals court on Friday to overturn a judge’s order that she appear for a sworn deposition about her handling of classified emails and the 2012 Benghazi attack as secretary of state.

U.S. District Judge Royce C. Lamberth on March 2 ruled Clinton must answer questions under oath from Judicial Watch as part of a 2014 Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by Judicial Watch.

Clinton, a former secretary of state and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee, and some of her aides have previously answered questions in writing. But this would be the first time she provides sworn in-person testimony.

The Clinton legal team responded to Lamberth’s ruling by filing an 83-page petition with the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. They asked the court to undo the order, which they suggested was out of line.

According to Clinton’s team, a reversal of the lower court’s ruling “is warranted because Judicial Watch’s impending depositions of Secretary Clinton and Ms. Mills are inappropriate, unnecessary, and a clear abuse of discretion.” (Read more from “Hillary Makes ‘Desperate’ Appeal to Avoid Testifying About Emails — Says She’s Too Important” HERE)

Pro-Gun Software Developer Was Asleep at Home When Police Killed Him in Gun Bust, Family Says

A Maryland software developer was asleep in his bedroom when police opened fire from outside the house and shot him dead, according to his family.

The Montgomery County Police Department said in a news release Friday that Duncan Socrates Lemp, 21, “confronted” police who were executing a “high risk” search warrant at the Potomac home early Thursday. They said a tactical unit member fatally shot Lemp around 4:30 a.m.

According to police, the officers were “following up on a complaint from the public that Lemp, though prohibited, was in possession of firearms.” . . .

Friends said they never heard Lemp espouse any anti-government rhetoric. Sandler said Lemp was not a part of any anti-government or militia-type group.

“He was pro-America and supported wholeheartedly all the protections of the Constitution,” she said. (Read more from “Pro-Gun Software Developer Was Asleep at Home When Police Killed Him in Gun Bust, Family Says” HERE)

Banning the Sale of Firearms and Ammunition Because of Wuhan Virus? A U.S. Mayor Just Signed an Executive Order to Do It

The mayor of Champaign, Illinois has declared a city-wide emergency over the Wuhan virus and is taking on breath-taking powers which include bans on the purchases of firearms and ammunition.

Mayor Attempts to Clarify Wuhan Virus Ammo and Gun Ban

By Townhall. The city is attempting to clarify, by claiming specific details in their own declaration, which you can read below, don’t exist.

The mayor of Champaign, Illinois has declared a town emergency over the Wuhan coronavirus that includes a potential ban on the sale of firearms and ammunition.

According to a local report from WAND 17, Champaign Mayor Deborah Frank Feinen has issued an executive order that would give her office “extraordinary powers.” She has issued the order despite the town and surrounding area not having a single case of the disease. . .

Here is the list of other items from the declaration/executive order, which also includes the ability to ban the sale of “food, water, fuel, clothing, and/or other commodities, materials, goods, services and resources,” in addition to alcohol and gasoline. Additionally, government agents or officials have the ability to seize private property and to cut off the city water supply. The mayor justifies everything “in the interest of public safety and wolf.” (Read more from “Banning the Sale of Firearms and Ammunition Because of Wuhan Virus? Sales of Survival Gear, Guns, Ammo Spike Amid Coronavirus Fears

By Kiro 7. Face masks, disinfectant and paper products are not the only items flying off retailer shelves, sales of survival gear like ready-to-eat meals, guns and ammunition have increased as consumers get ready to deal with the spreading coronavirus.

A California military supply store can’t keep enough military field rations — known as MRE or meals ready to eat — medical kits and food-grade storage bins in stock.

“We’re bringing pallets (of MREs) up all the time now, and even our supplier in Southern California is having trouble keeping them in stock,” Raymond Prather, owner of Victory Stores in Vallejo, California, told KTVU.

Gun stores across the country are also selling more firearms and ammunition.

Widener’s Reloading and Shooting Supply, an online retailer, sold twice as much ammo Feb. 23-25 this year than last year. (Read more from “Sales of Survival Gear, Guns, Ammo Spike Amid Coronavirus Fears” HERE)

DESPICABLE: Nancy Pelosi Tries to Sneak Abortion Funding Into Coronavirus Bill, Acting as Chinese Agent, too

By PJ Media. If you needed more proof that Democrats see the coronavirus outbreak as a political opportunity, look no further than the COVID-19 economic stimulus package. It appears that Nancy Pelosi and the Democrats attempted to sneak in a loophole for the Hyde Amendment, which prevents federal dollars from being used to pay for abortions, into the legislation. . .

“While schools are closing and hospitals are gearing up, Speaker Pelosi is waging unnecessary culture wars. Speaker Pelosi should be fighting the coronavirus pandemic, not politicizing emergency funding by fighting against the bipartisan Hyde Amendment,” Senator Ben Sasse (R-NE) told National Review in a statement. “We need to be ramping up our diagnostic testing, not waging culture wars at the behest of Planned Parenthood. Good grief.”

Pelosi tried to include provisions into the package that would mandate $1 billion to reimburse laboratories, which the White House claims would establish a precedent that all health claims for any procedure, including abortion, could be reimbursed with taxpayer dollars, effectively bypassing the restrictions of the Hyde Amendment.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez spun the situation differently when she was interviewed on Fox News Thursday evening. She told Brett Baier that “right now we are hearing that some of the fights and some of the gridlock is because people are trying to put pro-life provisions into this.”

Is Pelosi a Chinese Agent?

By Jeffrey Lord. Fox News reported:

Chinese officials are pushing back on the expression “Wuhan coronavirus” — saying the name used frequently by American conservative leaders and commentators to describe the place COVID-19 originated unfairly stigmatizes the Asian nation and borders on being racist. . .

And like clockwork, here come House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and socialist Reps. Ilhan Omar and Alexandria-Ocasio Cortez.

Pelosi tweeted to House GOP Leader Kevin McCarthy, who had used the phrase “Wuhan virus”: “Bigoted statements which spread misinformation and blame Asians and the Asian American community for #coronavirus make us all less safe. @GOPLeader must delete this tweet and apologize immediately.”

Omar said, “Viruses don’t have nationalities. This is racist” . . .

In other words? In other words Pelosi and her leftist comrades are doing exactly what the Chinese Communist Party demands: taking a perfectly logical name for the coronavirus — its place of origin — and making it a racial issue. (Read more from this story HERE)

How Coronavirus Is About to Get Much Worse in the U.S.; Supply Chain Expert Tells Tucker What Coming Shortages Americans Should Know About; Up to 150 Million Americans Could Get Infected; ‘Don’t Panic’ Says U.S. Woman Who Recovered From Coronavirus

By Townhall. I’ll begin with a word on last night’s address by the president. In some respects, it was strong; it emphasized the seriousness of the crisis, repeated crucially important recommendations for best hygiene practices, and reassured anxious Americans that the federal government will act to mitigate the (negative, likely temporary) economic impact. But it also failed in several key respects. . .

The president conveyed three pieces of wrong information, either through shoddy drafting or misspeaking, that needed to be “clarified” by administration officials almost immediately. The actual policies were better and more accurate than the speech designed to relay those policies to the public. This cannot happen. Period. This makes the administration look incompetent, it looks the president look clueless and weak, and it makes it seem as though the high-stakes address was thrown together without proper vetting, which may erode public confidence in future pronouncements made by this president on highly sensitive matters. Noting these things is not an “attack” on Trump. If you’re a supporter of his, you should be angry at those who did not serve him well — a buck that ultimately stops with him.

The Wuhan Coronavirus must transcend politics because so many lives are on the line (again, see below). But even for those who cannot shake their obsession with politics, a blown response to the disease will harm the president’s re-election chances for three reasons: (1) The otherwise excellent economy will needlessly suffer for longer, (2) questions about his capacity to do the job in times of crisis will bite, and (3) the voters who sit most squarely within the health ‘danger zone,’ senior citizens, tend to be Trump supporters. Every incentive, whether humanitarian or calculatingly political, is to get this right. Spreading three strands of incorrect information in an Oval Office address is leadership malpractice and political malpractice.

Now, why did the White House’s top medical expert on the Coronavirus epidemic warn yesterday that the situation will deteriorate in the coming days and weeks? Because based on the data from other countries who are ‘ahead’ of us in the disease cycle, there are many thousands of currently-undiagnosed cases here in the United States. This is leading to the virus being transmitted by people who don’t yet feel sick, so the “official” case numbers (hampered by still wholly insufficient but finally improving testing capacities and efficiencies) are a hugely lagging indicator. The numbers are going to grow much larger. Stop reading this post, and click through to read this full analysis — especially if you consider yourself a Coronavirus “skeptic:”

. . .The entire piece is filled with detailed and sobering charts that build the case. Some experts are projecting that one-third to half of the country could eventually get infected within the current status quo — so even with “only” a one percent fatality rate (ten times worse than an average flu), that could lead to a death toll in the neighborhood of one million-plus Americans. Containment is gone. Mitigation is the key, particularly to prevent the US healthcare system from becoming overwhelmed, which is a major risk:

Supply Chain Expert Tells Tucker What Coming Shortages Americans Should Know About, and It’s Not Toilet Paper

By Daily Caller. A supply chain management expert appeared on Thursday night’s edition of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” to explain why toilet paper shortages aren’t exactly what Americans should be looking for long-term in the wake of the coronavirus epidemic.

Daniel Stanton, the author of “Supply Chain Management for Dummies,” broke down the basics about supply chains and how they can be disrupted by events like coronavirus before explaining that “demand shocks” are what many Americans are currently experiencing with shortages of items like toilet paper, masks and hand sanitizer.

“People buying a lot more of some things than what they would normally consume and buying less of some other things, and what that does is creates what we call a bullwhip effect that gets amplified upstream in the supply chain and causes all kinds of chaos,” Stanton explained.

Stanton described these shortages as a “temporary problem” caused by “panic buying,” a situation that will be more than rectified when supplies are replenished. Other items, however, will need to be manufactured on a greater scale.

“There are other things that we are actually using more of. I think disinfecting wipes, hand sanitizers, the hospital masks. We need more of those than what we would normally consume,” he said. “For those things, we need to be increasing capacity, maybe creating some new supply chains, and in a lot of cases, we are dependent on foreign manufacturing and long-distance transportation to get those supplies.” (Read more from “Supply Chain Expert Tells Tucker What Coming Shortages Americans Should Know About, and It’s Not Toilet Paper” HERE)

Up to 150 Million Americans Could Get Coronavirus: U.S. Projection

By Yahoo. Between 70 to 150 million people in the United States could eventually be infected with the novel coronavirus, according to a projection shared with Congress, a lawmaker said Thursday.

Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib made the remarks during a hearing of the House of Representatives with members of the president’s coronavirus task force, confirming earlier reports by US media outlets including Axios and NBC News.

“Congress’s attending physician told the Senate that he expects between 70 to 150 million people to eventually contract the coronavirus in the United States,” Tlaib said.

Axios had reported that doctor Brian Monahan conveyed the projection to Senate senior staff on Tuesday, telling them they should prepare for the worst and offering advice on how to remain healthy. (Read more from “Up to 150 Million Americans Could Get Coronavirus: U.S. Projection” HERE)

‘Don’t Panic’ Says U.S. Woman Who Recovered From Coronavirus

By Yahoo. An American woman who has recovered from the novel coronavirus has a simple message for people who are worried: Don’t panic — but do think about high-risk individuals and stay home if you feel ill. . .

Schneider first began experiencing flu-like symptoms on February 25, three days after going to a party that was later identified as the place where at least five other people also got infected. . .

Knowing that she would also likely be turned down for the test, she decided to enroll in a research program called the Seattle Flu Study, hoping it might provide an answer. The team behind the study sent her a nasal swab kit, which she mailed back and waited several more days. . .

By this time, her symptoms had already subsided, and she was told by local health authorities to remain at home for at least seven days after the onset of symptoms or 72 hours after they subsided. . .

“The message is don’t panic,” said Schneider. “If you think that you have it, you probably do; you should probably get tested.” (Read more from “‘Don’t Panic’ Says U.S. Woman Who Recovered From Coronavirus” HERE)

Why Women Live Longer Than Men: Science Has the Answer Now

It is a known fact that women live longer than men, irrespective of the place they are born or choose to spend their life. Scientists have long wondered the reason and now it looks like they have come real close to the cause.

The researchers from the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) claim that the secret may lie in the second X chromosome, present in females. . .

The study, conducted on mice, showed that females live longer than males and that XX largely governs this trait in ageing mice. . .

The Y chromosome, present only in males, contains very few genes other than those that create secondary sex characteristics, like male genitals and facial hair, and it is not necessary for survival.

Further, having XX ovaries enabled mice to live longer, beginning at 21 months, which is toward the end of a normal mouse lifespan. (Read more from “Why Women Live Longer Than Men: Science Has the Answer Now” HERE)
