Ben Carson Sounds Alarm Over CDC Recommending COVID Vaccine for Children

Dr. Ben Carson told the Daily Caller on Thursday that the decision to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the childhood immunization schedule was “disappointing” and that “we have no idea what the long term implications are.”

A panel of vaccine experts working for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention voted unanimously on Oct. 20 to recommend that children between the ages of six months and 18 should receive two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. Although the vote did not establish a mandate, several states follow the CDC’s recommendations.

“So many of the states decide on their mandates based on those recommendations, and it would be a good thing to follow the science,” the former neurosurgeon and 2016 presidential candidate told the Caller. “The science tells us that the risk of death or severe complications from COVID for children is 0.025%. That’s approaching zero.”

“Those spike proteins that are produced … we have no idea what their longevity and their spread will be over the course of time, and how that may affect the other organs in the body,” Carson added. (Read more from “Ben Carson Sounds Alarm Over CDC Recommending COVID Vaccine for Children” HERE)

Ben Carson Analyzes Biden’s Mental Capacity

Dr. Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate, cast doubts on President Joe Biden’s mental fitness during an interview with The Daily Caller News Foundation, pointing to his frequent gaffes as evidence the president is not all there mentally.

“Well, certainly you want someone in that office who’s a peak performer, not someone whose staff has to constantly come behind him and clean up what he’s been saying,” Carson told TheDCNF. “Someone who can complete a sentence without a teleprompter would be helpful, as well.”

Less than 40% of independents think Biden is “mentally fit” whereas 61% “have doubts” about his mental fitness, according to a May Harvard-Hall poll. 83% of Republicans and 19% of Democrats also “have doubts” about Biden’s mental fitness. . .

“You’re talking about somebody who has the nuclear codes, who has so many things that are important to Americans in his hands,” Carson said. . .

“I don’t want to make a diagnosis on him but we really should be in a place as a nation where we’re willing to do mental status tests on our leaders, particularly our president, on an annual basis,” Carson said. “And if they can’t pass that mental status test, action needs to be taken.”

Ben Carson: Trump Saved My Life After I Got COVID

On Friday, Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Ben Carson issued a statement thanking President Trump for saving his life after Carson and his wife contracted the coronavirus, writing: “I became desperately ill. President Trump was following my condition and cleared me for the monoclonal antibody therapy that he had previously received, which I am convinced saved my life.”

Carson, a world-famous neurosurgeon, had tested positive for the coronavirus earlier in November. On Friday, he wrote on Facebook:

Thank you everyone for your support and prayers as Candy and I battled COVID-19. I was extremely sick and initially took Oleander 4X with dramatic improvement. However, I have several co-morbidities and after a brief period when I only experienced minor discomfort, the symptoms accelerated and I became desperately ill. President Trump was following my condition and cleared me for the monoclonal antibody therapy that he had previously received, which I am convinced saved my life.

President Trump, the fabulous White House medical team, and the phenomenal doctors at Walter Reed have been paying very close attention to my health and I do believe I am out of the woods at this point. I am hopeful that we can stop playing politics with medicine and instead combine our efforts and goodwill for the good of all people. While I am blessed to have the best medical care in the world (and I am convinced it saved my life), we must prioritize getting comparable treatments and care to everyone as soon as possible.

There are a number of promising treatments that need to be tested, approved, and distributed (sooner rather than later) so that the economy can be re-opened and we can all return to a semblance of normalcy. Also, people should recognize that there are a number of defined steps that legally have to be taken before vaccines are released to the public and trying to cause alarm by saying dangerous shortcuts were taken only serves to stoke fear. Together we will be victorious. God is still in charge.

Ben Carson Wants to Roll Back Obama Mandate on Gender Identity at Homeless Shelters

By Fox News. Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Secretary Ben Carson wants to roll back an Obama-era rule mandating that single-sex homeless shelters funded by his department admit residents based on their stated gender identity instead of their sex at birth, arguing that people could intentionally misrepresent their gender for malicious reasons.

In a new rule posted online on Wednesday, HUD said it wants to give the shelters it funds flexibility in devising their own policies for admissions at single-sex or sex-segregated shelters.

A senior HUD official told Fox News: “The federal government doesn’t need to be the bathroom police.”

HUD said the change is needed because the Equal Access Rule under the Obama administration “leaves no room for shelter providers to make decisions about potentially dangerous individuals who may misrepresent their gender to access gender-specific shelters.”

“Further, HUD’s current rule does not consider the practical concerns of shelter providers who serve vulnerable clientele in difficult conditions, including those seeking refuge from abusive relationships or domestic violence,” reads a department fact sheet, obtained by Fox News. Ben Carson Hits Back at Ilhan Omar After She Knocks His Performance During House Hearing

By Fox News. Ben Carson has fired back at Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., after the controversial freshman congresswoman criticized him after a hearing Tuesday.

Omar knocked the Housing and Urban Development (HUD) secretary over his conduct during an appearance before the House Financial Services Committee.

“Not sure he was fully awake, maybe he meant to reclaim his time back to sleep,” she quipped. She was playing off of Carson’s request for time during a testy exchange with Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass.

Carson, a renowned doctor and John’s Hopkins University’s former director of pediatric neurosurgery, fired back in a tweet by touting his endurance during marathon surgeries.

Ben Carson Delivers Truth Bomb to Dems: ‘You Take Care of Your Own First’

By The Blaze. Democratic House lawmakers expressed outrage at a proposed plan by Housing and Urban Development to prohibit families led by illegal immigrants from living in federally-subsidized homes, according to The Hill.

HUD Secretary Ben Carson was testifying before the House Financial Services Committee on Tuesday, and was made to respond to fierce criticism of a plan the department estimates could result in 32,000 households being subject to eviction.

“It’s not that we’re cruel, mean-hearted,” Carson told the committee. “It’s that we are logical. This is common sense. You take care of your own first.”

Currently, families that include both legal residents/U.S. citizens and illegal immigrants are eligible to live in federal housing. HUD is proposing tightening up that rule so that only families that are fully legal can take advantage of the housing aid.

The likely result is thousands of families with one or more illegal parent who have legal children will be forced to move out of federal housing. (Read more from “Ben Carson Delivers Truth Bomb to Dems: ‘You Take Care of Your Own First'” HERE)

Carson on HUD Eviction Plan: ‘You Take Care of Your Own First’

By The Hill. . .HUD estimates that 32,000 federally subsidized households and 55,000 children would be subject to evictions under its proposal. That could force thousands of U.S.-born children of undocumented immigrants, along with legal permanent residents, refugees, and asylum-seekers, into homelessness.

“I hope and pray that you rethink that,” said Rep. Juan Vargas (D-Calif.), adding that he couldn’t believe “that this rule could come from you.”

“I don’t think you’re mean-spirited at all,” Vargas continued. “I have to say, taking these 55,000 children and putting them on the street is mean-spirited. I don’t think it’s your nature.”

Carson and House Republicans insisted Tuesday that the evictions are necessary to comply with federal law and cut down a waiting list of more than 4 million U.S. citizens seeking HUD-subsidized housing.

“It’s not that we’re cruel, mean-hearted. It’s that we are logical,” Carson said. “This is common sense. You take care of your own first.” (Read more from “Carson on HUD Eviction Plan: ‘You Take Care of Your Own First'” HERE)

Trump Has Ben Carson Show Reporters How to Pray

President Trump invited reporters at the White House to remain in his Cabinet meeting Wednesday while Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson prayed . . .

During his Cabinet meeting, he described some of the projects his administration has accomplished and more that are in the works.

Then he said: “With that I’m going to ask Ben Carson … you can stay if you want to, because you need the prayer more than I do. I think you may be the only ones.

“Maybe a good solid prayer, and they’ll be honest then. Is that possible?”

Carson then began: “Our kind Father in Heaven, we’re so thankful for the opportunities and the freedom that you’ve granted us in this country. We thank you for the president and for Cabinet members who are courageous, who are willing to face the winds of controversy in order to provide a better future for those who come after.” (Read more from “Trump Has Ben Carson Show Reporters How to Pray” HERE)

Ben Carson’s Perspective on NFL Anthem Controversy Is What We ALL Need to Read

Secretary of Housing and Urban Development and former presidential candidate Ben Carson’s Sunday Facebook post addressing the raging controversy surrounding NFL players kneeling during the national anthem lit up social media.

In a speech Friday during a rally in Alabama, President Donald Trump drew fresh attention to the controversy by deriding NFL players who he said disrespect the American flag by kneeling during the national anthem.

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say ‘Get that son of a b—- off the field right now. Out. He’s fired! He’s fired’” Trump said.

Following Trump’s remarks, teams, players and NFL commissioner Roger Goodell responded with statements defending players’ right to kneel.

Goodell contended that Trump’s comments were “divisive” and demonstrated an “unfortunate lack of respect” for the NFL and its players.

But Carson added another perspective in his Facebook post on Sunday, lamenting that NFL Sundays used to “represent a time of fun, games and unity” that has now been compromised by protests during the national anthem.

“Here we are at another NFL Sunday,” Carson wrote. “That used to represent a time of fun, games and unity. I hope we can return to that situation soon.”

Carson noted that one of the reasons he believes the national anthem is played prior to sports contests is to “remind us that even though we’re rooting for different sports teams, we are united as a country.”

“That is a wonderful message that we should not allow to be distorted by anyone,” Carson wrote.

Carson said everyone has the right to express themselves, but argued that there is a proper “time and place for everything.”

“Last week I saw a story about pre-adolescent players being drawn into the ‘take a knee’ protests,” Carson wrote. “Does anyone honestly believe that encouraging even our youth to believe they are victims of our society will actually help us come together?”

Carson said he believes that many athletes “actually think they are making things better” by protesting.

“We would encourage them and all Americans to utilize their influence to truly draw people together and not be manipulated into doing the opposite under the guise of unity,” he added.

Carson’s post has gone viral, receiving more than 126,000 likes, nearly 49,000 shares and over 7,000 comments since Sunday morning.

Many commenters expressed their agreement with Carson’s sentiments.

“Ben you are a voice of reason in unreasonable times. Don’t know how we got to this place, I am truly ashamed,” one user wrote.

“Well said Dr. Carson. If only people would listen to common sense like yours this country could become great again. It is truly sad to see young children drawn into this foolishness,” another said.

Some said the anthem protests have caused them to stop following the NFL.

One commenter wrote, “Boycotting means not watching, not attending, not buying merchandise and sticking to our guns. I believe if enough people do this and they will see it in their pocketbooks! They’ll get the picture, but we can’t cave!”

“We use to love football Sunday but it has become a ‘political football’ and when enough people quit watching and these ridiculous salaries disappear, it will be a rude awakening to what most people deal with everyday,” another added. Groups Urge Carson to Spike Gender Identity Rule for HUD Shelters

Citing safety for women, 40 leaders of groups across the country have signed a letter asking Housing and Urban Development Secretary Ben Carson to rescind and revise a gender identity rule adopted by the Obama administration for government shelters.

The rule, published in September 2016, allows all individuals to use HUD men’s and women’s shelters based on their gender identity, regardless of whether they were born male or female.

“Dear Mr. Secretary,” the letter to Carson reads, “We write to urge you to … protect the safety and privacy of women in need of shelter due to homelessness or violence.”

The writers add:

We are a diverse group of women and organizations allied in a common cause: mothers, feminists, women of faith, lesbian and bisexual women’s rights activists, and concerned neighbors, convened through the Hands Across the Aisle Coalition, to request your consideration for our sisters without stable housing.

The HUD-run shelters, services, and programs covered by the rule are for men and women who are homeless, or about to be so, and for women fleeing domestic violence.

The letter is the work of the Hands Across the Aisle Coalition, a group of conservative and liberal women who work to fight what they consider anti-woman positions promoted by the transgender movement.

The coalition planned to submit the letter to HUD on Monday.

The rule’s formal title is “Equal Access in Accordance with an Individual’s Gender Identity in Community Planning and Development Programs.”

The signers of the letter ask Carson to rescind and revise the regulation to reflect that “single-sex facilities should not be forced to permit clients of the opposite biological sex, that men who identify as women or nonbinary must be kept safe at men’s facilities, and that women who identify as men or nonbinary should be kept safe at women’s facilities.”

Nonbinary refers to a “combination of both male and female, or neither, or in between,” Ryan T. Anderson, a senior research fellow at The Heritage Foundation who writes on gender identity issues, told The Daily Signal in an email.

The Daily Signal’s Kelsey Harkness previously produced a video about the Hands Across the Aisle Coalition:

Kristen Bridgan-Brown, 42, a mother and a victim of rape and abuse from Tacoma, Washington, stayed at a shelter for women during her recovery.

She says this is a personal issue for her.

“A man’s presence would have been a complete deal breaker,” Bridgan-Brown said in a statement provided to The Daily Signal. “I would have left. In my mind, my known abuser would have been better to go back to, than someone who had the potential to hurt me that I didn’t know.”

During her time at the Family Renewal Shelter in Tacoma, Bridgan-Brown said, she shared restroom facilities, a kitchen, a living room, a dining room, and a laundry room with other women and their children. She said it was important that she shared those facilities with her own gender.

“Women from domestic violence relationships need a safe space away from men to regroup and process,” Bridgan-Brown told The Daily Signal. “It takes years to heal, but it’s the necessary start of a long journey.”

Autumn Leva, director of policy and communication for the Family Policy Alliance, an organization that seeks to protect religious freedom and family values, said the Trump administration must change the government rule.

“This rule defies common sense, defeats the very purpose of women-only shelters for victims of abuse, and threatens the safety and dignity of women in need of HUD facilities,” Leva said in a statement provided to The Daily Signal.

Over 1 million people are served each year in HUD’s housing program for the homeless, according to the agency.

CitizenGO, an organization that seeks to “defend and promote life, family, and liberty,” hosts a Hands Across the Aisle Coalition petition asking that Carson change the rule.

“For most of us, this isn’t even a hard issue,” Joseph Backholm, president of the Family Policy Institute of Washington, which promotes traditional family values and opposes the rule, said in an email to The Daily Signal, adding:

Those who find themselves in need of a women and children’s shelter are often escaping dangerous and abusive situations. I don’t have the nerve to tell them they don’t have the right to be concerned about sharing a room with a complete stranger who is a biological male and I don’t think the federal government should either.

The Human Rights Campaign, a major advocate for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender Americans, and the Center for American Progress, a think tank that advances LGBT activists’ goals, did not respond to The Daily Signal’s requests for comments on the Obama administration’s gender identity rule for HUD shelters.

Dana Hodges, state director for Concerned Women for America of Texas, a conservative women’s advocacy organization, said the rule is counterproductive.

“The fact that [women] could be faced with sharing these facilities with men who seek to exploit these ‘gender-fluid’ guidelines as an opportunity to prey on these women is unthinkable and wholly unacceptable,” Hodges said.

Matt Sharp, senior counsel at Alliance Defending Freedom, told The Daily Signal that under HUD’s rulemaking process, officials could write a rule restoring the original language and ask for public comment before adopting it.

The rule potentially could be rescinded by Congress using the Congressional Review Act, Paul Larkin, a senior legal fellow at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal in an email. Ben Carson Finds $500 Billion (Billion!) in Errors During Audit of Obama HUD

. . .President Trump picked Carson to head the Department of Housing and Urban Development, whose budget grew by leaps and bounds under Barack Obama.

In one of his first acts as HUD Secretary, Carson ordered an audit of the agency. What he found was staggering: $520 billion in bookkeeping errors . . .

But there were plenty of other problems, too.

There were several other unresolved audit matters, which restricted our ability to obtain sufficient, appropriate evidence to express an opinion. These unresolved audit matters relate to (1) the Office of General Counsel’s refusal to sign the management representation letter, (2) HUD’s improper use of cumulative and first-in, first-out budgetary accounting methods of disbursing community planning and development program funds, (3) the $4.2 billion in nonpooled loan assets from Ginnie Mae’s stand-alone financial statements that we could not audit due to inadequate support, (4) the improper accounting for certain HUD assets and liabilities, and (5) material differences between HUD’s subledger and general ledger accounts. This audit report contains 11 material weaknesses, 7 significant deficiencies, and 5 instances of noncompliance with applicable laws and regulations.

Senate Confirms Retired Neurosurgeon Ben Carson as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development

The Senate confirmed retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson as the new secretary of the Department of Housing and Urban Development in a 58-41 vote, primarily along party lines, Thursday.

Carson has said he will work to help underprivileged communities.

“I feel that I can make a significant contribution, particularly by strengthening communities that are most in need,” Carson said in December. “We have much work to do in enhancing every aspect of our nation and ensuring that our nation’s housing needs are met.”

Robert Rector, a senior research fellow in domestic policy studies at the Institute for Family, Community, and Opportunity at The Heritage Foundation, told The Daily Signal that he is confident Carson will work to strengthen families.

“The major cause of child poverty in America is the collapse of the family in low-income communities,” Rector, an authority on poverty and welfare, said in a statement provided to The Daily Signal. “Dr. Carson can serve as a powerful spokesperson for the restoration of the family, the decrease in poverty, and the improvement of human well-being across the nation.”

Carson, who said he used to be a “flaming liberal,” is now an outspoken critic of government dependency.

During his confirmation hearings, Sen. Thom Tillis, R-N.C., asked Carson about the best way to help those on government assistance.

“What is the best possible thing we can do for somebody who is on government assistance?” Tillis asked.

“Get them off of it,” Carson replied.

House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wis., congratulated Carson on his confirmation and said that he and Carson would “work to get more Americans out of poverty and on the ladder of opportunity.”

Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C., said Carson will “bring a fresh perspective to a government agency in desperate need of innovative change.”

Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., said he voted to confirm Carson because he believes Carson “understands that the housing and development needs facing West Virginia are different than those facing America’s urban communities,” and that he looks forward to collaborating with Carson to “improve the lives of West Virginians.”

The Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee unanimously voted to move Carson out of committee on Jan. 24, yet, despite the bipartisan support in the committee vote, Carson did face Democrat obstruction.

“[Democrats] are claiming they successfully delayed Carson, and that’s partially true,” Rachel Bovard, a former Senate aide and director of policy services at The Heritage Foundation, said in an email to The Daily Signal.

“They delayed him by forcing all post-cloture time to be run on every single nominee,” Bovard said. “Once cloture [a procedure to end debate] is invoked on a nominee, 30 hours of debate is required, unless both sides agree by unanimous consent to shorten it.”

Democrats were able to successfully stall Carson’s vote for over a month by demanding every nominee meet the maximum 30 hours of debate before taking a full Senate vote, according to Bovard.

“The [Democrats] have effectively tied up the floor and slowed the pace of confirmations to a literal crawl. It’s actually quite an effective tactic by the [Democrats],” Bovard said.

Carson, according to ABC News, is the 17th of 22 of President Donald Trump’s Cabinet and Cabinet-level nominations to be confirmed by the Senate. (For more from the author of “Senate Confirms Retired Neurosurgeon Ben Carson as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development” please click HERE)
