Bernie Sanders’ Defense of Castro’s Cuba Evokes Socialism’s Brutal History

Self-described democratic socialist Sen. Bernie Sanders’ defense of the policies of the late Cuban dictator Fidel Castro drew swift and widespread condemnation and evoked memories of some of history’s bloodiest regimes. . .

In response, Rep. Donna Shalala, D-Fla., who represents a large population of Cuban-born residents in her district, tweeted: “I’m hoping that in the future, Senator Sanders will take time to speak to some of my constituents before he decides to sing the praises of a murderous tyrant like Fidel Castro.”

University of Hawaii historian R. J. Rummel, estimated in 1987 that the Castro regime was responsible for the deaths of between 35,000 to 141,000 of its own people. Worldwide, it is estimated that communist regimes have killed an estimated 100 million people.

In Fox Nation’s new six-part series, “The Unauthorized History of Socialism,” Fox News anchor Bret Baier re-examined the 200-year history of an idea that changed the world, starting from its roots in America in the early 1800’s, to its emergence in Europe and the collapse of the Soviet Union, to its apparent rebirth in the United States in 2020.

“By the end of the 20th century, many believed the historic struggle between socialism and capitalism was over,” narrated Baier in the Fox Nation series. “You might think the empirical case had been made and the door shut forever on the socialist dream, but you would be wrong.” (Read more from “Bernie Sanders’ Defense of Castro’s Cuba Evokes Socialism’s Brutal History” HERE)

WATCH: Why Can’t Bernie Sanders Stop Complimenting Communist Dictators?

Democratic presidential candidate Bernie Sanders praised former Cuban dictator Fidel Castro’s “massive literacy program” during a CBS “60 Minutes” clip that aired on Sunday.

CNN anchor Anderson Cooper introduced the topic by playing a clip of an 1985 interview with government-access Vermont TV in which Sanders said the Castro regime “educated their kids, gave them healthcare” and “totally transformed the society.”

“We’re very opposed to the authoritarian nature of Cuba, but, you know, it’s unfair to simply say everything is bad,” the Vermont senator told Cooper, responding to the clip. “You know? When Fidel Castro came into office, you know what he did? He had a massive literacy program. Is that a bad thing? Even though Fidel Castro did it?” . . .

“That’s right,” said Sanders, “and we condemn that. Unlike Donald Trump. Let’s be clear, you want to, I do not think that Kim Jong-Un is a good friend. I don’t trade love letters with a murdering dictator. Vladimir Putin, not a great friend of mine.”

Last February, the Reagan Battalion Twitter account posted a video of Sanders reminiscing about watching the Nixon-Kennedy debates in 1960 and almost leaving “to puke” when both candidates criticized the Cuban dictator.

Democratic Elites Prefer Trump To Sanders

By Breitbart. . .It’s an article of faith inside the Bernie Sanders campaign that the Democratic establishment is going to do everything it can to stop the Vermonter from winning the Democratic nomination this year. This is what happened four years ago during the primary battle, when the Democratic National Committee (DNC) was helping Hillary Clinton win the nomination, even as it feigned neutrality in the contest.

In fact, MSNBC’s anti-Sanders tone is so strong that it’s been noticed by others on the left; hence this February 12 headline in the liberal New Republic magazine, “Bernie Sanders Has an MSNBC Problem.” As the article details, a long list of MSNBC talking heads—including Joe Scarborough, Chuck Todd, Lawrence O’Donnell, and James Carville—have hammered Sanders.

At the top of that list of MSNBC hitmen is Chris Matthews. On February 7, in one of his typically purple perorations, Matthews compared Sanders to Fidel Castro, adding that if Castro had somehow managed to bring communism to America, “There would have been executions in Central Park”—and among the executed would have been Matthews himself. . .

. . .Matthews-type Democrats see Sanders as an internal enemy: That is, he and his socialism—or, as Matthews might put it, communism—are a threat to the good order of the existing Democratic Party structures, which rely heavily on funding from Wall Street, Silicon Valley, and individual heirs and plutocrats.

These donors are perfectly happy with a Democratic Party that’s green and gay, but not one that’s red and angry. So we can see: Trump unites Democrats (in opposition to Trump), whereas Sanders divides them (pro and con on Sanders). (Read more from “Democratic Elites Prefer Trump To Sanders” HERE)

Sanders Is A Risk, Not A Winner

By The Hill. Please, Democrats, find a practical, moderate candidate for president to help those of us in the center of the American political spectrum oust Donald Trump and his mindless supporters in Congress from power in November.

The Bernie Sanders revolution is not the answer.

The country needs a return to sanity, not an extremist from the idealistic far left to defeat Trump, the extremist reactionary on the far right. Give us someone — any gender or race — who is a real problem solver and who has some hope of winning the presidential and congressional election and then creating the political conditions for real change.

I make this plea as someone who grew up in the South and has worked in government for presidents of both parties. I am also not affiliated with any political party or candidate. (Read more from “Sanders Is A Risk, Not A Winner” HERE)

Bernie Sanders Breezes To Victory In Nevada Caucuses

Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders emerged as the projected clear winner in Saturday’s 2020 Nevada Democratic primary caucuses.

Sanders made massive inroads in the Hispanic and African-American communities, and while the Nevada Democratic Party had not finished tabulating results at press time, multiple news outlets all projected a massive win for Sanders. The only question remaining was exactly how large his margin of victory would be.

Former Vice President Joe Biden was projected to finish in second place, with former South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg and Democratic Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren close on his heels. Democratic Minnesota Sen. Amy Klobuchar told reporters she was happy with her fifth place projected finish. She, Democratic Hawaii Rep. Tulsi Gabbard, and billionaire businessman Tom Steyer were all projected to win less than 10% of the vote.

Saturday’s victory is Bernie’s third strong result in the first three primary states and will lend him a significant share of the state’s 36 convention delegates. He previously topped Buttigieg and Klobuchar in New Hampshire, fell just short of victory in Iowa, and, after Saturday’s performance, remains the clear front-runner.

The Real Clear Politics polling average saw Sanders holding a more than 11-point national lead over Biden heading into the weekend, but his lead over the former vice president expanded to 16 in Nevada. Former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg, who has floated between second and third place in recent weeks per RCP, will not appear on any primary ballots until Super Tuesday. Report: Bernie Sanders Briefed That Russia Trying To Help His Campaign

U.S. officials have warned Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) that Russia is attempting to boost his prospects of winning the White House in 2020, sources familiar with the matter told the Washington Post.

President Donald Trump and Congressional lawmakers have also received briefings regarding the Kremlin’s efforts to help Sanders, reports the Post. In a statement to the newspaper, Sanders called Russian President Vladimir Putin a “thug” and said he stands “firmly against” any efforts to interfere in U.S. elections

“I don’t care, frankly, who Putin wants to be president,” Sanders said. “My message to Putin is clear: stay out of American elections, and as president I will make sure that you do.”

“In 2016, Russia used internet propaganda to sow division in our country, and my understanding is that they are doing it again in 2020. Some of the ugly stuff on the Internet attributed to our campaign may well not be coming from real supporters,” he added.

A spokesperson for the Sanders campaign would not comment on the nature of Russia’s attempted efforts to help the Vermont senator.

Trump Edges Out All Top 2020 Democratic Candidates Except Sanders; Bernie Sanders Surges To A 15-point Lead Over Biden, Bloomberg

By New York Post. Bernie Sanders is carrying a commanding double-digit lead over the other Democratic presidential contenders, according to a national poll released on Wednesday.

The Vermont senator garnered 32 percent of support from Democrats and Democrat-leaning independents — an increase of 8 percentage points from the same survey taken last month, the ABC News/Washington Post poll found.

His closest competition was former Vice President Joe Biden, whose support fell 11 points to 17 percent.

The disappointing results continue a nosedive for Biden, once the race’s overwhelming frontrunner.

In contrast to Biden, Mike Bloomberg’s good fortune continued as he gained 6 percentage points in the poll, coming in third place with 14 percent. (Read more from “Bernie Sanders Surges To A 15-point Lead Over Biden, Bloomberg” HERE)

Trump Edges Out All Top 2020 Democratic Candidates Except Sanders

By The Hill. Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is the only Democratic presidential contender to beat President Trump in a head-to-head match-up, according to a new Emerson College poll released Wednesday.

Sanders edges out Trump by a 51 percent-49 percent margin in the poll. Meanwhile, Trump leads former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) and former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg by 2 points. All those margins are within the poll’s margin of error of 2.7 percentage points.

WATCH: Bernie Sanders Won’t Answer Questions About His Medical Records; Bernie Thinks Online Attacks From Bernie Supporters Might Be the Russians

By Daily Caller. 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Bernie Sanders dodged answering a question Wednesday on why he has not released his full health records.

The Vermont senator pointed out at a presidential debate Wednesday night that 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Mike Bloomberg has also had health issues.

“Sen. Sanders, when you were here in Las Vegas in October, you were hospitalized with a heart attack,” one of the debate moderators said. “Afterwards you pledged to make quote all your medical records public.”

“You’ve released three letters from your doctors, but you now say you won’t release anything more. What happened to your promise of full transparency?” the moderator continued. . .

“Let me tell you what happened. First of all, you’re right, and thank you, Las Vegas, for the excellent medical care I got in the hospital two days,” he said[.]

Bernie Sanders Suggests Online Attacks From Bernie Supporters Might Be the Russians

By Daily Caller. Independent Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders suggested Wednesday that online attacks attributed to his supporters, known as “Bernie Bros,” might be the Russians trying to “divide” Americans.

Sanders made the argument during the Democratic primary debate in Las Vegas after taking criticism for not doing more to prevent his supporters from attacking others online.

“We have over 10.6 million people on Twitter and 99.9% of them are decent human beings, are working people, are people who believe in justice, compassion and love,” Sanders began, adding that the vast number of attacks and ugly remarks could really be attributed to a very small percentage of people.

“I disown those people, they are not part of our movement,” Sanders continued, noting that his own campaign staffers were not immune from attacks. “Let me also say — what I hope my friends up here will agree with — is that if you look at the wild west of the Internet, talk to some of the African American women on my campaign … And find the vicious, racist, sexist attacks that are coming their way as well. So I would hope that all of us understand that we should do everything we possibly can to end the viciousness and ugliness on the Internet. Our campaign is about issues. It’s about fighting for the working families and the middle class. It is not about vicious attacks on other people.” (Read more from “Bernie Sanders Suggests Online Attacks From Bernie Supporters Might Be the Russians” HERE)

WATCH: Bernie Sanders Ad Touts Him as ‘First Jewish President’

A new video ad released Sunday by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) touts him as the potential “first Jewish American president.”

In the 2016 campaign, Sanders downplayed his Jewish origins, with an ad that referred to him as the “son of a Polish immigrant who grew up in a Brooklyn tenement.”

But in 2020, amidst claims that has has aligned himself with left-wing antisemites and has an anti-Israel foreign policy, is he is trying a different tack.

The new Internet ad, “Bernie Would Be the First Jewish President,” runs for over two minutes.

It begins with teen climate activist Jamie Margolin declaring: “If Bernie Sanders was elected, he would be our first Jewish American president. As a Jewish American, that would be a huge step forward in this country and blowback against the rise of antisemitism in this country.”
