Book Reveals Bernie’s Ridiculous Hotel Demands

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is a demanding hotel guest whose requirements would make even the most pampered celebrity blush, according to a new book detailing Democratic Party politics.

In an excerpt from “Battle for the Soul: Inside the Democrats’ Campaigns to Defeat Trump,” author Edward-Isaac Dovere reports that following Sanders’ surprisingly strong 2016 presidential campaign, the democratic socialist’s staffers put together a “Senator Comfort Memo” detailing his specifications for each hotel stay on his travels. The excerpt was first reported by Fox News.

According to Dovere, Sanders preferred suites with bathtubs and a king-size bed “which had to have a down comforter or another blanket in the closet. He preferred that the extra blanket be dark blue, and made of cotton.”

Sanders, 79, required that his room be kept at 60 degrees even if it meant opening a window in winter or manually overriding the hotel’s climate control system. Dovere recounts one incident on a trip to California when a hotel worker tried and failed to get the room to the required coolness. Bernie on Israel: U.S. ‘Supplying Weapons to Kill Children’ (VIDEO)

Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) said Sunday on CBS’s “Face the Nation” that the United States should not be “supplying weapons to kill children in Gaza” while discussing the latest conflict in Israel.

Partial transcript as follows:

JOHN DICKERSON: I want to start in the Middle East. You have made the case that how the US government responds in this ceasefire period says something about President Biden’s commitment to human rights more broadly. And last Sunday, you wrote a piece in The New York Times that said the US must stop being an apologist for the Netanyahu government. Since you wrote that the president has been very supportive of Israel. Do you think the administration is being an apologist for the Netanyahu government?

SANDERS: Look John, all that I think is that given the incredible suffering in Gaza, where we have a poverty rate of 56%, 70% of the young people are unemployed. And after the Israeli attacks, you have wastewater plants destroyed, clinics destroyed, hospitals destroyed. I think the United States has got to develop a even-handed approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. We have to be pro-Israel, but we have to be pro-Palestinian. And I hope and believe the president understands that. And I was delighted to see that he is moving forward to try to rebuild with the international community, the destruction- rebuild Gaza after all of that destruction.

. . .

SANDERS: Well, what you have got to do is also understand that over the years, the Netanyahu government has become extremely right wing and that there are people in the Israeli government now who are overt racists. You have in West Jerusalem people being evicted from their homes. Tremendous pressure on people within Israel, the Arab community, as well as Gaza. So you have a very difficult situation. You have Hamas, a terrorist group. You have a right-wing Israeli government, and the situation is getting worse. And all that I’m saying is that the United States of America has got to be leading the world in bringing people together, not simply supplying weapons to kill children in Gaza. This last series of attacks killed 64 children and destroyed a large part of the infrastructure of Gaza in a community that has already been one of the most uninhabitable territories in the world.

“Make Billionaires Pay Act”: Bernie Proposes One-Time Tax That Would Cost Bezos $42.8 Billion, Musk $27.5 Billion

Top tech leaders and other billionaires would be forced to hand over billions of dollars in wealth they’ve gained during the coronavirus pandemic under a new bill introduced by Sens. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., Ed Markey, D-Mass., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y.

The “Make Billionaires Pay Act” would impose a one-time 60% tax on wealth gains made by billionaires between March 18, 2020, and Jan. 1, 2021. The funds would be used to pay for out-of-pocket health-care expenses for all Americans for a year. As of Aug. 5, the bill would tax $731 billion in wealth accumulated by 467 billionaires since March 18, according to a press release. If passed, the bill would tax billionaires on wealth accumulated through the end of the year, however.

Under the bill, tech and other business titans who have seen their wealth shoot up during the pandemic would take huge charges. Amazon and Walmart, for example, have both seen their stocks grow as Americans increasingly relied on their services during stay-at-home orders during the pandemic. Bernie Supporter Joe Rogan Now Says He’ll Vote Trump this November, Moving to Texas

By Benjamin Fearnow. Podcast host and comedian Joe Rogan said he would rather vote for President Donald Trump than Democratic candidate Joe Biden, arguing that Trump has held up well to the pressure of the office versus Biden.

The Joe Rogan Experience host spoke at his studio Friday with Eric Weinstein, managing director of the Thiel Capital investment firm, where the two compared Trump’s behavior and “fake alpha” persona to that of a professional wrestler. The conversation veered into 2020 politics after Weinstein complained people “express themselves moronically” when they are given no choices in life. The podcast host, who last week described the former Vice President as “very old” and “stumbling,” claimed the Democratic Party “made us all morons” by promoting Biden’s campaign and potential nomination. Rogan has previously stated he would “probably vote for” Bernie Sanders.

He appeared to compliment Trump’s vitality for seemingly “not aging at all” during his time in office.

WATCH: Bernie Says Biden’s Proposals Aren’t Extreme Enough

On Tuesday’s “PBS NewsHour,” Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) stated that 2020 Democratic presidential candidate former Vice President Joe Biden’s proposals are “a significant step forward,” and, if implemented, would make him “the most progressive president since FDR.” Sanders also stated that he doesn’t think Biden’s proposals “go far enough” and that the solution is to elect Biden and then “strengthen our grassroots movement to make sure that…we have a government that represents all of us, and not just the few.”

Sanders said Biden’s proposals are “not only a significant step forward, but are going to win widespread support from the progressive community.”

Bernie Sanders Campaign Co-Chair Slams Actress Over ‘Racist’ Attack on Kanye West; Kanye West Says He Is Running for President. Is That Actually Possible?; Elon Musk Throws His ‘Full Support’

By Breitbart. The campaign co-chair for Sen. Bernie Sanders slammed actress Debra Messing over her “racist” attack on Kanye West after Messing accused the Grammy-winner of trying to “take young black votes from Biden” by announcing his own presidential run.

On Saturday, Kanye West tweeted that he’s “running for president of the United States” with the aim of “unifying America.” Although West did not refer to when he planned to run, his tweet included the phrase “#2020 Vision,” suggesting it could be this year.

. . .“Absolutely,” the Will and Grace star wrote in response to a tweet describing West as a “redhat wearing MAGA lunatic” planning to torpedo Biden’s election chances. “He’s trying to take you g [sic] black voters from Biden. It’s disgusting.”

Messing’s comments were quickly picked up by Bernie Sanders’s spokeswoman Nina Turner, who declared her remarks “racist” as black voters are “not owned by anyone.”

“You just can’t stop dipping can you @DebraMessing?” Turner wrote. “Your connotation is racist. 1. Black voters are not owned by anyone. Our vote should be earned every election cycle. 2. We can think for ourselves & don’t need your help. 3. Sometimes it’s best to stay out of family business.”

Kanye West Says He Is Running for President. Is That Actually Possible?

By ABC. US rapper Kanye West took to Twitter over the weekend to announce he was running for president, with his declaration quickly going viral and prompting a flurry of speculation. . .

West first raised the idea of running for president during an acceptance speech at the MTV Music Video Awards in August 2015. . .

The presidential election is on November 3, so that doesn’t leave him much time to get his name on the ballot.

He could run as an independent candidate, but the deadline for registering has passed in a handful of states, including New Mexico and North Carolina.

And getting his name on the ballot would mean he’d need to either hire staff or recruit fans as volunteers to gather tens of thousands of signatures across the nation before other registration periods close in August and September. Elon Musk Throws His ‘Full Support’ Behind Kanye West for President

By Market Watch. Rapper icon Kanye West, as he has teased several times before, said in a tweet on Saturday night that he’s “running for president” in the 2020 election.

As absurd as that may sound, Tesla’s TSLA, +7.95% Elon Musk seems to be on board:

. . .Then there’s billionaire Mark Cuban. He stopped short of offering his “full support” but did acknowledge that West wouldn’t be the worst option:

Bernie Sanders’ Press Secretary Hints That Biden May Be Replaced as the Nominee

Briahna Joy Gray has spent the past year waging war on behalf of Bernie Sanders—and now she’s shifted her focus to attacking Joe Biden. At a moment when Democrats are calling for unity around the former vice president, Gray is an outlier, someone her critics accuse of inadvertently aiding Donald Trump now that Sanders is out of the Democratic-primary race. . .

Gray: The Democratic Party would like us to believe that’s the case, and they behaved that way even before Bernie Sanders dropped out of the race. But we are, in fact, still in a Democratic-primary season. Biden is only the presumptive nominee. . .

And there’s all kinds of whispers and rumors about whether or not something might happen at the convention, which might mean Joe Biden isn’t even the nominee.

Green: Are you talking about the Tara Reade allegations?

[Emma] Gray: There’s a lot of reasons why Democrats might want to substitute a different person for Joe Biden as the nominee. The Tara Reade allegation has been handled abysmally by the press. If anyone looks at this closely, then they will see reason for concern.

Bernie Endorses Joe Biden; Sanders Campaign Reps Revolt After Endorsement

Bernie Sanders Endorses Joe Biden for President

By CNBC. Sen. Bernie Sanders endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden for president on Monday during a livestream with the two men, telling Biden “we need you in the White House.”

“I’m asking every Democrat, I’m asking every independent, I’m asking a lot of Republicans to come together in this campaign to support your candidacy, which I endorse,” Sanders said.

Sanders exited the Democratic primary on Wednesday, effectively making Biden the apparent nominee to take on President Donald Trump in November.

The endorsement was expected, though the timing was a surprise, and could give Biden a boost as he seeks to rally the party’s young liberals who backed Sanders in 2016 and again in 2020. (Read more from “Bernie Sanders Endorses Joe Biden for President” HERE)

Sanders Campaign Reps Revolt After Sanders Endorses Biden, Openly Attack Former Vice President

By Fox News. Bernie Sanders endorsed Joe Biden for president on Monday, but any illusions that the move would bring an end to long-simmering tensions between the Democratic Party’s liberal and moderate wings quickly evaporated in a matter of minutes.

Briahna Joy Gray, who served as Sanders’ national press secretary, and prominent Sanders surrogate Shaun King immediately took aim at Biden — and they made it clear just how much the former vice president’s platform differed from Sanders’ longstanding policy goals.

“With the utmost respect for Bernie Sanders, who is an incredible human being & a genuine inspiration, I don’t endorse Joe Biden,” Gray wrote. “I supported Bernie Sanders because he backed ideas like #MedicareForAll, cancelling ALL student debt, & a wealth tax. Biden supports none of those.” . . .

Gray had also hammered Biden on Sunday after The New York Times belatedly covered a sexual assault allegation against him on Sunday: “I’m not sure how that line from the NYT’s long-delayed coverage of Tara Reade’s accusation can sit alongside reporting that 7 other women have accused Biden of sexual misconduct,” Gray tweeted. (Biden’s campaign has denied the accusation.)

Bernie Sanders Drops out of 2020 Race

Sen. Bernie Sanders ended his presidential campaign, he announced on Wednesday, leaving former Vice President Joe Biden as the apparent Democratic presidential nominee.

“I have concluded that this battle for the Democratic nomination will not be successful, and so today I am announcing the suspension of my campaign,” Sanders told supporters in a livestream, saying he wished he could provide supporters with “better news” but “I think you know the truth.”

“We are now some 300 delegates behind Vice President Biden and the path to victory is virtually impossible,” he said. Sanders, I-Vt., called Biden “a very decent man who I will work with to move our progressive ideas forward.” . . .

He added that he understands some supporters who want him to fight on through the convention, but he could not “in good conscience continue to mount a campaign that cannot win and would interfere with the important work required of all of us in this difficult hour” as the COVID-19 outbreak grips the nation.

He pledged to have significant influence over the party platform this summer, as he did during the 2016 convention. He pointed to policies like a $15 minimum wage, which has been picked up in some states and cities since he first began campaigning for it at the presidential level five years ago, as evidence that his progressive platform is winning. Sanders Curses out CNN Reporter When Asked About Failing Campaign; Is Bernie Sanders Ready to Bail on 2020?

By New York Post. Bernie Sanders exploded into expletives when asked Wednesday if he would pull the plug on his ailing campaign.

“I’m dealing with a f—ing global crisis,” the Vermont senator, back on Capitol Hill to vote on the $1 trillion Coronavirus bailout package, blew up at a veteran CNN reporter when pressed on the future of his White House bid after being thumped by Joe Biden in Tuesday night’s primaries.

[Warning: tweet contains explicit language.]

The foul rant was noted in a tweet by CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Manu Raju recounting their conversation.

“You know, we’re dealing with,” Sanders hastily added, trailing off. . .

“Right now, I’m trying to do my best to make sure that we don’t have an economic meltdown and that people don’t die. Is that enough for you to keep me busy for today?” Sanders griped.

Is Bernie Sanders Ready to Bail on 2020?

By Vanity Fair. Just a few weeks ago, the Democratic primary—and the state of the country—looked completely different. Bernie Sanders had claimed victory in the first three contests and seemed to be running away with the nomination. Joe Biden, by contrast, was perhaps one more disappointing finish away from being knocked out of the race he’d led in national polls since entering it. But now, after racking up primary victories across the country, including some in decisive fashion, Biden has built a commanding delegate lead, is easily outpacing Sanders in national polls, and has forced his progressive rival to consider the future of his campaign.

Sanders was recently sending signals that he had no intention of leaving the race just yet. “I want the senator to stay in,” Nina Turner, one of the national co-chairs of his campaign, said earlier this week. But after another drubbing Tuesday in which Biden swept three more states, there are signs that Sanders may be preparing to exit. After losing Arizona, Florida, and Illinois on Tuesday, Sanders suspended Facebook advertisements, fueling speculation that his once-promising run was drawing to an end. An email to supporters updating them on the state of play which did not include the typical request for donations kept the rumor-mill churning. And while Axios pulled back its Wednesday report that Sanders was suspending his campaign, the Washington Post reported later that his campaign has been in regular contact with Biden’s team, apparently to discuss policy ideas about the novel coronavirus that has upended American life—a sign, potentially, that Sanders could soon step aside and cement Biden as the party nominee to take on Donald Trump in November. . .

In an email to supporters after Tuesday’s losses, Sanders campaign manager Faiz Shakir acknowledged that the contests “did not go the way we wanted” and said the candidate was returning to Vermont to “seek input” from supporters and “assess the path forward for our campaign.” But Shakir also noted that the next primary “is at least three weeks away,” suggesting he’s not in a hurry to decide. Sanders himself has appeared understandably focused on the pandemic threatening the nation: “I’m dealing with a f***ing global crisis,” he snapped at CNN’s Manu Raju Wednesday when asked about the status of his campaign. “Is that enough for you to keep me busy for today?” (Read more from “Is Bernie Sanders Ready to Bail on 2020?” HERE)
