China’s Gift for the Biden Inauguration Is a Conspiracy Theory About COVID-19’s U.S. Origins

A conspiracy theory that links the origins of Covid-19 to a US military lab is trending on Chinese social media on Wednesday (Jan. 20), after a spokesperson from the country’s foreign ministry redirected the public’s focus to the lab this week.

The fresh attention being drawn by a Chinese official to the theory just ahead of the inauguration of Joe Biden today (Jan. 20) as president, could indicate that the new administration will face an uphill battle when it comes to US-China relationship, and a continuation of the blame game between the two countries over the pandemic.

Hua Chunying, a spokesperson for China’s foreign ministry, said on Monday (Jan. 18) at a press conference that the US should open Fort Detrick, a military medical research base in Maryland, for further investigation as a possible origin of Covid-19. “I’d like to stress that if the United States truly respects facts, it should open the biological lab at Fort Detrick, give more transparency to issues like its 200-plus overseas bio-labs, invite WHO [the World Health Organization] experts to conduct origin-tracing in the United States, and respond to the concerns from the international community with real actions,” she said. Reports: Nearly 200 National Guard Members Test Positive for COVID-19 After Inauguration

Nearly 200 National Guard members who deployed to Washington, DC, after a riot at the Capitol and in advance of the inauguration, have either tested positive for COVID-19 or are quarantining in nearby hotels, according to reports.

Politico reported Friday that more than a hundred National Guard members have tested positive for COVID-19 and several hundred more are quarantining in hotels. The outlet reported that some Guard members are being forced to find their own tests and others were being pressured to leave quarantine and report to duty.

Guard leadership has declined to release an official number of positive cases, but troops and lawmakers alike worry that the deployment is becoming a superspreader event.

California Is the Worst State at Vaccine Distribution

The State of California became the worst of the 50 states in distributing its share of coronavirus vaccines on Thursday, as other states picked up their pace.

Despite improving from 27.5% last week to 37.3% this week, California is “dead last,” as SFGate.com reported Friday:

Thursday’s update to Bloomberg’s vaccine tracker shows that the national rate increased from 38.8% last week to 48.6% this week. Last week’s 50th-ranked state was Alabama, which saw its usage rate jump from 21.2% to 41.1% week-over-week. For reference, California was ranked 49th last week.

This week, the 49th, 48th and 47th ranked states in order are Minnesota (39.8%), Virginia (40.2%) and Alabama (41.1%). The top three states are North Dakota (82.8%), West Virginia (73.0%) and New Mexico (68.6%).

Voters Enraged as Dems Back Away From $2,000 Checks

Many Georgia voters who backed the two Democrats in the Senate runoff earlier this month already are enraged by what they regard as a broken promise.

During the final campaign pitch to Georgia voters for Democrat Jon Ossoff and Raphael Warnock, Joe Biden promised taxpayers would receive $2,000 in a new coronavirus stimulus package.

“If you send Jon and the Reverend to Washington, those $2,000 checks will go out the door,” Biden declared. “And if you send Sens. Perdue and Loeffler back to Washington, those checks will never get there. It’s just that simple. The power is literally in your hands.” . . .

Now, FoxNews.com reports, the freshman senators support the Biden administration’s proposal for $1,400 checks, arguing Trump already delivered $600 payments earlier this month. . .

NO SURPRISE: With Biden President, Politicians Reverse Course on Coronavirus Restrictions After Months of Strict Lockdowns

Politicians across the United States who pushed for the most restrictive coronavirus rules have recently reversed course on the restrictions and decided to focus on reopening.

After implementing some of the strictest lockdowns in the country for nearly ten months, Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Jan. 11 on Twitter that the state needed to focus on reopening. . .

After closing schools for nearly 10 months and implementing rigid coronavirus restrictions, Democratic Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer recently released a rationale for reopening schools. The reasons listed were “schools are essential,” “schools are lower risk when they implement key strategies” and “the state of Michigan is committed to supporting schools operate safely.” . . .

Democratic Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot also advocated for re-opening bars and restaurants “as soon as possible” during a Jan. 14 press conference.

“I am very, very focused on getting our restaurants reopened. If we look at the various criteria that the state has set, we are meeting most if not all of those. Bombshell U.S. State Department Report Reveals Evidence of the Origin of COVID-19

The U.S. State Department announced last Friday it has evidence that researchers at the Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV), a laboratory in Wuhan, China, became sick in fall 2019 with flu-like symptoms. This has led U.S. officials to believe the researchers may have been infected with COVID-19 as a result of a lab experiment.

“This raises questions about the credibility of WIV senior researcher Shi Zhengli’s public claim that there was ‘zero infection’ among the WIV’s staff and students,” reads the State Department “Fact Sheet: Activity at the Wuhan Institute of Virology.”

The main theory pushed by the Chinese government and health organizations such as the Centers for Disease Control, National Institute of Health, and World Health Organization is that the virus jumped from an animal to a human in Wuhan before spreading around the world. However, the new information from the State Department adds evidence that the virus may have accidentally leaked from the WIV, a hypothesis that has been dismissed by China, the corporate media, and health officials as a “conspiracy theory.”

The fact sheet says WIV began conducting experiments in 2016 on a coronavirus that originated in bats and is closely related to the virus currently spreading. The State Department also says WIV has collaborated on “secret projects” with the Chinese military.

“Despite the WIV presenting itself as a civilian institution, the United States has determined that the WIV has collaborated on publications and secret projects with China’s military,” the fact sheet says. “The WIV has engaged in classified research, including laboratory animal experiments, on behalf of the Chinese military since at least 2017.” (Read more from “Bombshell U.S. State Department Report Reveals Evidence of the Origin of COVID-19” HERE)

23 Die After Receiving Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine

Twenty-three people died in Norway within days of receiving their first dose of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine, with 13 of those deaths — all nursing home patients — apparently related to the side effects of the shots, health officials said.

Common reactions to the vaccine, including fever and nausea, “may have contributed to a fatal outcome in some frail patients,” Sigurd Hortemo, chief physician at the Norwegian Medicines Agency, said in a Friday statement.

All 13 were nursing home patients and at least 80 years old. While officials aren’t expressing serious concern, they are adjusting their guidance on who should receive the vaccine.

The news comes just over a week after officials reported the deaths of just two nursing home residents after they received the Pfizer jab.

Microsoft Helping Create COVID-19 Vaccination ‘Passport’

Microsoft is part of a coalition of technology and health organizations working on the development of a digital COVID-19 vaccination passport that could be used by businesses and countries to enforce mandatory innoculation.

Announced Thursday, the Vaccination Credential Initiative aims to enable people to “demonstrate their health status to safely return to travel, work, school and life while protecting their data privacy,” the Financial Times reported.

Oracle and the Mayo Clinic also are part of the coalition, which is working with technology created by The Commons Project in partnership with the Rockefeller Foundation.

People who have been vaccinated for the coronavirus currently receive a piece of paper to document their vaccination, Paul Meyer, the chief executive of The Commons Project, told the Financial Times.

Major U.S. City Makes COVID Vaccine Mandatory to Attend Public School

Every public school student must be innoculated for the coronavirus before returning to class, once a vaccine is available, the superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District said Monday.

Comparing it to required vaccinations for measles and mumps, Austin Beutner said he hopes all students will be innoculated by January 2022, the Los Angeles Times reported.

During a pre-recorded briefing, he assured skeptical parents there’s an option for “a child to stay online learning and therefore not have to go back to campus.”

The Pfizer vaccine given emergency authorization by the FDA in December is for people 16 and older. Testing on children as young as 12 began in October and will take several more months to complete. . .

The New ‘Highly Contagious’ COVID Strain Might Not Even Exist

. . .Now, as we deal with new strains of COVID in South Africa and the United Kingdom, the White House COVID task force decided to drum up some scares by suggesting the latest spike in the US could be due to a US-based variant. The good news here is that the new UK/South Africa strains aren’t any more lethal. They’re more contagious, but the lethality hasn’t increased. It doesn’t make you any sicker. Also, there appears to be no US variant at all. The data doesn’t suggest that. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention had to smack down this floated theory (via NYT):

Reports of a highly contagious new variant in the United States, published on Friday by multiple news outlets, are based on speculative statements made by Dr. Deborah Birx and are inaccurate, according to several government officials.

The erroneous report originated at a recent meeting where Dr. Birx, a member of the White House coronavirus task force, presented graphs of the escalating cases in the country. She suggested to other members of the task force that a new, more transmissible variant originating in the U.S. might explain the surge, as another variant did in Britain.

Her hypothesis made it into a weekly report sent to state governors. “This fall/winter surge has been at nearly twice the rate of rise of cases as the spring and summer surges. This acceleration suggests there may be a USA variant that has evolved here, in addition to the UK variant that is already spreading in our communities and may be 50% more transmissible,” the report read. “Aggressive mitigation must be used to match a more aggressive virus.”

Dismayed, officials at the C.D.C. tried to have the speculative statements removed, but were unsuccessful, according to three people familiar with the events.
