Biden Sends a Total of 5,000 Troops to Afghanistan, Blames Trump for Taliban Resurgence

President Joe Biden released a statement Saturday from the White House blaming his decision to surge U.S. troops to Afghanistan to combat the Taliban’s surging land acquisition on the policies of former President Donald Trump.

Biden said in the statement that he would send an additional 1,000 troops to Afghanistan to complement the 1,000 troops already in the country and the 3,000-troop surge he announced last week, a defense official told the Washington Examiner. The president said the move was necessary after he inherited a tenuous situation from the previous administration, claiming that Trump had cut a deal with the Taliban in 2019 that put them in a powerful military position. Biden also criticized Trump’s decision to roll back American forces stationed in the country.

“When I came to office, I inherited a deal cut by my predecessor, which he invited the Taliban to discuss at Camp David on the eve of 9/11 of 2019, that left the Taliban in the strongest position militarily since 2001 and imposed a May 1, 2021 deadline on U.S. forces,” Biden said in the statement. “Shortly before he left office, he also drew U.S. forces down to a bare minimum of 2,500.” . . .

The president said that he was forced to make a decision between honoring the deal with the Taliban established under the Trump administration and bolstering the U.S. presence in Afghanistan.

“Therefore, when I became President, I faced a choice — follow through on the deal, with a brief extension to get our forces and our allies’ forces out safely, or ramp up our presence and send more American troops to fight once again in another country’s civil conflict,” he wrote. Trump Says Situation With Taliban Would Be ‘More Successful’ if He Were Still President

Former President Donald Trump said he “personally had discussions with top Taliban leaders whereby they understood what they are doing now would not have been acceptable,” in a statement issued through the Save America PAC.

Since the United States pulled out of Afghanistan, the Taliban has taken over much of the country’s rural and lands, and over the past six days, the insurgent group has conquered nine provincial capitals, primarily in the north. The group now controls an estimated 65 percent of the country’s territory and 10 of its 34 provincial capitals.

President Joe Biden announced in mid-April that he intended to have U.S. troops out of the country by September 11. At the time of that decision, a number of polls showed Americans, disillusioned by so-called “forever wars,” were in favor of the move. However, since the subsequent Taliban takeovers, a number of Republicans have criticized Biden’s approach, including the former president.

“It would have been a much different and much more successful withdrawal, and the Taliban understood that better than anyone,” Trump said in his statement. “What is going on now is not acceptable. It should have been done much better.” (Read more from “Trump Says Situation With Taliban Would Be ‘More Successful’ if He Were Still President” HERE)

Trump Sends Out Cryptic Three-Word Message in PAC Email

Former President Donald Trump sent recipients of his email list a cryptic three-word message Wednesday without context, raising questions about its meaning.

“BULLIES NEVER FIGHT!” Trump wrote in his statement, sent via email without explanation.

The message comes following New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s announcement he will resign after a series of sexual harassment allegations were deemed credible in an investigation by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Trump, who is often eager to offer his opinions about similar political developments, has yet to comment on the governor’s resignation and has given no indication that the statement is in reference to Cuomo.

Trump has recently sent a series of messages through his Save America PAC, at times bordering on confrontational in expressing his views regarding politicians’ actions and votes. (Read more from “Trump Sends Out Cryptic Three-Word Message in PAC Email” HERE)

Judge Rules Dominion Lawsuits Against Trump Can Proceed

A federal judge in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday rejected requests from former Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, pro-Trump lawyer Sidney Powell and MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell that he dismiss lawsuits from Dominion Voting Systems against the three.

The ruling pertains to three defamation lawsuits Dominion filed — at $1.3 billion each — against the three defendants for allegedly claiming without evidence that the voting machine company rigged the 2020 presidential election for President Biden by manipulating votes.

The ruling by U.S. District Judge Carl Nichols, a Trump nominee, swept aside the initial claims put forth by the defendants for why the suits should be tossed, from arguments that their alleged statements were legally protected opinions or were otherwise made without malicious intent to claims that the D.C. court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case.

The Wednesday order clears the way for the litigation to proceed. Separately, Dominion this week also sued a pair of far-right media companies and the former head of Overstock.com for defamation based on statements made about the 2020 election. Jan. 6 Select Panel Takes Over House Probe of Trump DOJ

A key House committee has postponed multiple scheduled witness interviews about Donald Trump’s final days in office, handing them off to the select panel investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol attack.

“As the Oversight Committee continues its crucial oversight work, we look forward to the Select Committee fully exposing the former president’s unconstitutional attacks on our democracy and attempts to stay in power after the American people voted him out of office,” House Oversight Committee Chair Rep. Carolyn Maloney (D-N.Y.) said in a statement to POLITICO Thursday.

An aide to the Jan. 6 panel, speaking on condition of anonymity, did not dispute the handoff and added that the select committee would announce “additional actions” later.

The movement of those interviews with former Justice Department aides marks an abrupt change in House Democrats’ investigations of the end of Trump’s presidency. That shift underscores the growing importance of the select committee’s work as it readies its next steps with a political spotlight on Chair Bennie Thompson (D-Miss.) and the panel’s two anti-Trump Republicans, Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming and Adam Kinzinger of Illinois. The consolidation of the probes could also allow House Democrats to prevent any overlap in the investigation into Trump’s attempts to overturn the election. Trump Moves to Block Effort to Get His Tax Returns

Lawyers for former President Donald Trump moved to block House Democratic efforts to obtain his tax returns, blasting the push as a political attempt to harm him following the Justice Department greenlighting the effort.

Democratic-led House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal of Massachusetts had requested six years of Trump’s tax returns and those of eight Trump-associated businesses, including his Bedminster golf club, from the IRS in April 2019.

Then-Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin rejected the effort in May 2019 and was backed up by the Trump DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel that year. But the Biden DOJ concluded in July that “Treasury must furnish the information to the Committee,” which the Treasury Department agreed to do, though it allowed Trump a chance to respond in court first.

“After President Trump’s election, Democrats in Congress and across the country only became more eager to disclose the President’s tax returns for political gain. During the 115th Congress, when they were still the minority party, House Democrats gave a variety of reasons for wanting the President’s tax returns. Their statements all had a common theme: the tax returns would contain damaging information about President Trump that the House Democrats would release to the public,” Trump lawyer Patrick Strawbridge of Consovoy McCarthy told a federal court on Wednesday. Trump Flexes Fundraising Muscles Again With Massive Haul in First Half of Year

Former President Trump’s various political committees brought in a combined $82 million in fundraising during the first six months of 2021.

And Trump has spent very little of the money he’s hauled in, with his committees entering the month of July with $102 million cash on hand, according to filings with the Federal Election Commission that the former president made public on Saturday evening.

The fundraising figures, along with the former president’s continued strong standing among Republican voters in public opinion polling, are signs of Trump’s continued popularity and sway within the GOP six months removed from the White House and come even without access to his once powerful pages on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook.

The fundraising figures release comes as Trump remains intent on continuing to play a kingmaker’s role in party politics while he flirts repeatedly with another presidential run in 2024. Trump is sailing through unchartered waters as he continues to haul in big bucks – as he’s the first former president to raise such large sums of money after departing the White House. WATCH: The Biggest Indication Yet That Trump is Running in 2024

In an interview with Newsmax, Trump’s former chief of staff, Mark Meadows, revealed that Trump is “moving forward” with a 2024 presidential run in a “real way.” What exactly does that mean? According to Meadows, Trump met with “cabinet members” at his Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey Friday evening to discuss his future politics.

Meadows said: “We met with some of our Cabinet members tonight. […] We’re looking at what does come next. I’m not authorized to speak on behalf of the president. But, I can tell you this: We wouldn’t be meeting tonight if we weren’t making plans to move forward in a real way, with President Trump at the head of that ticket.”

Last month, Trump told Sean Hannity that he has made up his mind about running in 2024 but didn’t say what the decision was.

“Let me ask you this. Without giving the answer—what the answer is… have you made up your mind?” Hannity asked.

“Yes,” Trump replied. (Read more from “WATCH: The Biggest Indication Yet That Trump is Running in 2024” HERE)

Biden DOJ Says Trump’s Tax Returns Can Be Turned Over to Congress

The Department of Justice on Friday said former President Trump’s tax returns must be released by the IRS to the House Ways and Means Committee.

The DOJ’s Office of Legal Counsel said the committee – which first requested the returns over two years ago – showed “sufficient reasons” to validate its bid to review the former president’s taxes.

“The Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee has invoked sufficient reasons for requesting the former President’s tax information,” Dawn Johnsen, acting assistant attorney general wrote in an opinion Friday. “Under section 6103(f)(1), Treasury must furnish the information to the Committee.”

The Office of Legal Counsel argued that when a congressional committee requests access to a president’s tax returns, “the executive branch should conclude that the request lacks a legitimate legislative purpose only in exceptional circumstances.”

The opinion by the DOJ is a reversal of stance from the Trump administration’s 2019 judgment, which alleged the congressional committee lacked legitimate justification for reviewing the tax returns. (Read more from “Biden DOJ Says Trump’s Tax Returns Can Be Turned Over to Congress” HERE)

WATCH: Biden Confuses Donald Trump With Barack Obama; Biden Raises Eyebrows With Claim He ‘Used to Drive’ 18-Wheeler Truck

By Fox News. President Biden mixed up former President Obama and former President Trump during a speech Wednesday in what he referred to as a “Freudian slip.”

“Back in 2009, during the so-called Great Recession, the president asked me to be in charge of managing that piece, then-President Trump,” Biden told a Pennsylvania crowd. “Excuse me, Freudian slip, that was the last president. He caused the…anyway, President Obama when I was vice-president.”

Biden’s gaffe was immediately picked up on social media including by a Twitter account associated with the Republican National Committee.

Biden Raises Eyebrows With Claim He ‘Used to Drive’ 18-Wheeler Truck

By Fox News. Forty-eight-year political veteran President Biden raised eyebrows on Wednesday when he claimed to have driven an 18-wheeler truck — a claim the White House struggled to defend.

Biden was visiting a Mack Truck facility in Pennsylvania when he made the claim to have driven the massive trucks before, which require a special kind of license.

“I used to drive an 18-wheeler, man,” Biden said on Wednesday in a video posted to Twitter. “I got to.”

There is scant evidence that Biden has ever driven an 18-wheeler truck.

When asked if the president had ever driven such a truck, a White House spokesperson pointed to a December 1973 article from the Wilmington Evening Journal that showed Biden rode in an 18-wheeler on a 536-mile haul to Ohio.
