Elon Musk Is Right, the Russia-Ukraine War Needs to End

As if to burnish his reputation as a super-villain in the eyes of the corporate press, Elon Musk this week floated an idea on Twitter for a possible resolution of the Russo-Ukrainian war. For his trouble, he was swiftly accused of being a pro-Putin stooge by guardians of the Official Narrative. His suggested peace plan was dismissed out of hand as “Russia-friendly” and, as The Washington Post’s Olivier Knox put it, “designed to lock in Russian territorial gains.”

But Musk’s idea shouldn’t be so quickly dismissed, not least because it has the virtue of being grounded in reality, but also because broadly speaking the billionaire mogul is right: It’s time for the war in Ukraine to come to an end. One need not be “Russia-friendly” to recognize that this war will most likely end in one of two ways. Either there will be a negotiated political settlement, in which both Russia and Ukraine get some of what they vitally need, or the thing will escalate into a worldwide nuclear war.

Given the options, the responsible thing to do is think through how a settlement might be reached — something our political leaders and media elites, wedded as they are to a maximalist Ukraine policy that seeks the total defeat of Russian forces and regime change in Moscow, have thus far been incapable of doing. . .

The plan isn’t perfect, obviously, but it’s a far cry from Kremlin propaganda. It recognizes something that sharp observers of the conflict could see even before Russia’s invasion in late February: With its current borders, Ukraine can have territorial integrity or political independence, but it can’t have both.

My friend Mario Loyola made precisely that argument in these pages weeks before the war began, noting that Ukraine’s present-day borders date from 1954, when Soviet Premier Nikita Khrushchev “gave” Ukraine nominal control over strategic swaths of territory that had not been traditionally considered part of Ukraine, such as the Crimean Peninsula, along with a formidable Soviet nuclear arsenal. The point was to make it seem like the Warsaw Pact was something other than a Soviet concoction designed to give Moscow more seats in the U.N. General Assembly. Elon Musk Announces He’s Activating Starlink Internet in Iran Amid Protests

Elon Musk announced he is activating Starlink satellite internet service in Iran after the nation cut off communications during recent protests.

Musk made the news public on Friday following a policy change by the Treasury Department earlier the same day, allowing companies to provide online services to Iran after the government’s crackdown. . .

Deputy Treasury Secretary Wally Adeyemo also noted that the new move by the U.S. government would increase options for internet communications for the Iranian people.

“As courageous Iranians take to the streets to protest the death of Mahsa Amini, the United States is redoubling its support for the free flow of information to the Iranian people,” Adeyemo said in a statement to Reuters. Elon Musk to Push for Twitter Geolocation Data After Whistleblower’s Bombshell: Sources

Elon Musk will push for access to Twitter’s internal geolocation data related to spam accounts at his court hearing Wednesday after it was revealed that a former top executive has accused the company of “lying about bots” to the billionaire Tesla boss, sources close to the situation told The Post.

The geolocation data could help Musk better analyze Twitter’s fake account problem, one source close to the case said.

The in-person hearing in Musk’s ongoing legal battle to scrap his $44 billion deal to acquire Twitter is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Delaware Court of Chancery, according to court filings. The Post first reported news of Musk’s plans for the hearing.

Zatko’s complaint claims that Twitter’s leadership is financially incentivized to juice user numbers instead of cracking down on bots. Musk has repeatedly accused Twitter of covering up a bot problem as part of his effort to get out of his $44 billion takeover deal.

In Zatko’s complaint, which was first reported by CNN and the Washington Post on Tuesday, the former executive claims that Twitter’s C-suite could be paid bonuses worth up to $10 million if they boosted the number of users, incentivizing them to ignore the site’s widespread issue with spam accounts. Elon Musk Weighs in on IRS Preparing to Hire Army of Agents

Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk poked fun at his fellow Americans on Thursday for allowing the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to more than double in size.

Musk posted a meme depicting a laughing British redcoat, along with the caption: “when the country that revolted over taxes hires 87,000 new IRS agents.”

Musk, a South African who lived in Canada before becoming an American citizen, told a user that he already gets “audited every year by default.”

Indeed, top Biden administration officials — including Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig — have argued that the 87,000 new employees, who will be hired through an $80 billion carveout from the $740 billion Inflation Reduction Act, will focus primarily upon wealthy Americans. The IRS employed nearly 79,000 full-time employees as of fiscal year 2021, according to the agency, which also reported $13.7 billion in operating costs. Elon Musk Had Affair With Wife of Google Co-Founder, Prompting Divorce and Quashing Tech Billionaires’ Long Friendship

Elon Musk had an affair with the wife of Google co-founder Sergey Brin, according to a new report. The extramarital affair allegedly caused the couple to get divorced and ended a long friendship between the two tech billionaires.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Saturday that Musk “engaged in a brief affair” with Brin’s wife in December, citing people familiar with the situation. The reported affair between Musk and Nicole Shanahan began during the Art Basel art show in Miami last December.

The alleged affair took place around the same time that Musk broke up with singer Claire Elise Boucher – best known as her stage name Grimes. Musk had two children with Grimes, including a daughter who was born via a surrogate in the same month as the alleged affair.

The month prior to the affair, Musk had twins with Shivon Zilis – a senior executive at Musk’s Neuralink company. In all, Musk has fathered 10 children with three women. One of his children who he had with Canadian author Justine Wilson died of sudden infant death syndrome at 10 weeks old in 2002.

At the time of the affair, Brin and Shanahan were separated but still living together. The couple allegedly were having issues revolving around COVID-19 and caring for their toddler daughter. Elon Musk Reveals When He Thinks We Will Land on Mars

Humans may be just a few decades away from landing on Mars and creating a self-sustainable civilization, according to predictions from SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

The billionaire, who often tweets about space travel and hints at establishing human civilization on other planets, made the projection after a Twitter user asked Musk what the “estimated timeframe for creating a self-sustaining civilization on Mars” would be.

“20 to 30 years from first human landing if launch rate growth is exponential,” Musk said in response. “Assumes transferring ~100k each rendezvous and ~1M total people needed.” (Read more from “Elon Musk Reveals When He Thinks We Will Land on Mars” HERE)

War of Words: Musk Calls for Trump’s Political Exit; Trump Says He Could Have Made Musk ‘Drop to His Knees’

Trump Says He Could Have Made Musk ‘Drop to His Knees’

By Daily Beast. The war of words between former President Donald Trump and Elon Musk is intensifying—and getting weirder.

On Tuesday evening, Trump responded to a series of tweets the Tesla CEO had sent Monday encouraging Trump to end his political career. . .

No surprise that the former president didn’t take well to the slight. For his part, he took to his right-wing social media network Truth Social and assailed Musk, recalling one of the many times the Tesla CEO visited the White House during his administration.

“When Elon Musk came to the White House asking me for help on all of his many subsidized projects, whether it’s electric cars that don’t drive long enough, driverless cars that crash, or rocketships to nowhere, without which subsidies he’d be worthless,” Trump wrote, “and telling me how he was a big Trump fan and Republican, I could have said, ‘drop to your knees and beg,’ and he would have done it.”

For good measure, the ex-president appeared to revel in Tuesday’s other Musk news: Twitter is suing the moon-loving billionaire, alleging that he broke a contract to purchase the company.

Musk Calls for Trump’s Political Exit, Says DeSantis Would ‘Easily Win’ Against Biden in 2024

By Washington Times. Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk called for former President Donald Trump to quit politics, escalating a war of words between the influential billionaires with their eyes on dominating the social media marketplace.

“I don’t hate the man, but it’s time for Trump to hang up his hat & sail into the sunset,” Mr. Musk said on Twitter. “Dems should also call off the attack — don’t make it so that Trump’s only way to survive is to regain the presidency.”

Mr. Musk’s commentary was posted in response to a video of Mr. Trump’s remarks at a political rally in Alaska hammering Mr. Musk after he publicly sought to walk away from taking over Twitter.

Mr. Trump pitched the audience on his own social platform Truth Social and he said he previously told people Mr. Musk would not go through with the Twitter acquisition.

“You know he said the other day, ‘Oh, I’ve never voted for a Republican.’ I said, ‘I didn’t know that, he told me he voted for me,’” Mr. Trump said at the rally on Saturday. “So he’s another bull—— artist but he’s not going to be buying it.” (Read more from “Musk Calls for Trump’s Political Exit, Says DeSantis Would ‘Easily Win’ Against Biden in 2024” HERE)

Elon Musk Trolls Twitter After Nixing Deal

Elon Musk took to Twitter late Sunday night to address the news that he seeks to terminate his bid to acquire the tech platform.

In a pair of tweets the CEO suggested that he feels he has outsmarted Twitter. Musk published a series of photos showing him laughing increasingly hysterically, with captions “They said I couldn’t buy Twitter; Then they wouldn’t disclose bot info; Now they want to force me to buy Twitter in court; Now they have to disclose bot info in court.”

A second tweet, published minutes later, included a picture of Chuck Norris playing chess, to which Musk replied “Chuckmate.”

Elon Musk Terminates $44 Billion Deal to Buy Twitter; Twitter Chairman Responds

By Axios. Elon Musk is bailing on his $44 billion agreement to buy Twitter, claiming that the social media company hasn’t met its contractual obligations, according to a statement filed with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.

This could set up a massive legal fight between Musk and Twitter, with a Delaware court as the deal’s ultimate arbiter. . .

Since signing the deal, however, he’s argued that Twitter is likely undercounting the number of “bot” accounts on its platform, and demanded access to related data. . .

Musk had agreed to pay Twitter $1 billion were he to walk away, but there were exceptions for “material adverse effects,” which Musk is claiming to have occurred. As such, he’s arguing that he owes Twitter nothing. (Read more from “Elon Musk Terminates $44 Billion Deal to Buy Twitter” HERE)

Elon Musk Backs Out of Twitter Deal

By New York Post. Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Friday he was terminating his $44 billion deal for Twitter, saying that the social media company had failed to provide information about fake accounts on the platform. . .

“For nearly two months, Mr. Musk has sought the data and information necessary to “make an independent assessment of the prevalence of fake or spam accounts on Twitter’s platform,” Musk’s law firm Skadden Arps said in a letter to Twitter.

“Twitter has failed or refused to provide this information. Sometimes Twitter has ignored Mr. Musk’s requests, sometimes it has rejected them for reasons that appear to be unjustified, and sometimes it has claimed to comply while giving Mr. Musk incomplete or unusable information.”

In response, Twitter’s chairman Bret Taylor said the social-media giant is prepared to take Musk to court.

“The Twitter Board is committed to closing the transaction on the price and terms agreed upon with Mr. Musk and plans to pursue legal action to enforce the merger agreement,” Taylor tweeted Friday afternoon. “We are confident we will prevail in the Delaware Court of Chancery.” (Read more from “Elon Musk Backs Out of Twitter Deal” HERE)

Musk to Take ‘Potentially Drastic Action’ as Twitter Buyout ‘in Serious Jeopardy’; Twitter Makes Major Cuts

Elon Musk‘s $44 billion bid to for Twitter is in serious jeopardy and the billionaire is reportedly reviewing his options after his team accused the social media platform of not disclosing enough information about spam accounts.

The Washington Post reported that Musk’s team has stopped engaging in discussions with investors about the funding behind the purchase because they believe that the spam figures provided by the company are incomplete.

The newspaper reported that Musk’s team has determined Twitter’s figures on spam accounts cannot be verified with available information, leaving its true number of active daily users a mystery. Musk’s team is poised to take “potentially drastic action,” the report said.

A change in direction from Musk’s team could be looming, although the source who spoke to the newspaper did not offer a timeframe.

Twitter simultaneously said on Thursday that it had let go of 30% of its talent acquisition team amid the potential Musk takeover. (Read more from “Musk to Take ‘Potentially Drastic Action’ as Twitter Buyout ‘in Serious Jeopardy’; Twitter Makes Major Cuts” HERE)
