Examples of Florida Textbooks Filled With ‘Woke’ Political Content

. . .Textbook publishers have routinely transmitted political messaging to kids under the cover of objective math instruction, according to a review by Florida officials.

The Sunshine State’s Department of Education vetted all math textbooks submitted by publishers for classroom use beginning in 2021.

The agency rejected 41 percent of the proposed materials for violating policy last month and released 6,000 documents related to its probe this week.

Math textbooks, reviewers found, frequently veered into political subject matter ranging from the racial makeup of the NYPD to climate change and abortion.

One DOE reviewer questioned a 2019 high school math textbook from Pearson Learning for lacing its content with political themes. (Read more from “Examples of Florida Textbooks Filled With ‘Woke’ Political Content” HERE)

State Releases Examples of Rejected ‘Woke Math’ Textbooks

Florida education officials have released four images of “woke math” in textbooks they rejected last week for use in K-12 public schools.

The state’s Department of Education rejected 54 of 132 titles that textbook publishers submitted for use next year, including 71% of proposed elementary school books, because they did not meet state benchmarks or they contained examples of critical race theory and social-emotional learning.

Florida education officials said Friday that copyright law prevented them from publicizing the names and publishers of the textbooks that contain the four images, which reference “racial prejudice” in math problems and how students feel about working together on the subject. . .

The first image contains a polynomial math problem that asks students to analyze racial prejudice data from the Implicit Association Test, a widely challenged 1998 psychological study that purported to identify subconscious and unconscious bias against Black individuals.

In two vertical bar graphs that break down the results by age and political persuasion, the problem tells public school students that people older than 65 and conservatives have the most racial prejudice. (Read more from “State Releases Examples of Rejected ‘Woke Math’ Textbooks” HERE)

Is Disney About to Fire Its CEO?; Biden Berates Florida Republicans for Punishing Disney

By Townhall. As the showdown between The Walt Disney Company and Florida Republicans comes to a head with the passage of a bill to strip Walt Disney World of its special district status, Bob Chapek’s tumultuous tenure as CEO of Disney has come into glaring focus.

Facing criticism from all sides, Chapek — who replaced former CEO Bob Iger — appears to be on thin ice with growing calls for the embattled leader to step aside in order to let Disney right its ship.

As The New York Post reported on Wednesday as the Florida Senate passed the bill to strip Disney’s Florida resort of its autonomy, there are growing calls for Chapek to go and Iger to return as Disney’s CEO, even if just for a little while.

According to The Post, “Hollywood insiders” are questioning “whether 71-year-old Iger, who stepped down as executive chairman in December, would be able to restrain himself from reaching for the wheel at Disney after a series of missteps by Chapek” that it characterized as a “fumbling response” to Florida’s recently signed parental rights law. Joe Biden Berates Florida Republicans: ‘Nothing Conservative’ About Punishing Disney

By Breitbart. President Joe Biden criticized Republicans for trying to punish Disney after the company attacked Florida’s parental rights bill signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The president spoke out against the bill during a fundraiser hosted in Seattle by Brad Smith, the president and vice chair of Microsoft.

“There’s nothing conservative about throwing Disney out of its current posture… over saying gay?” Biden said, referring to the Republican-led effort to strip Disney’s special tax status on Thursday.

Florida Republicans pushed the law forward after the family entertainment company said they would fight Florida’s new law preventing teachers instructing students in kindergarten through third grade on sexual orientation and gender identity.

The law reached final passage in the Florida state House of representatives with 70 votes in favor, 38 against, and 11 missing votes. (Read more from “Joe Biden Berates Florida Republicans: ‘Nothing Conservative’ About Punishing Disney” HERE)

Florida Lawmakers Vote to End Disney’s Tax Privilege, Self-Governing Status

Florida’s Republican-led Senate approved a bill on Wednesday that would eliminate the Walt Disney Company’s special tax district that has allowed the company to self-govern its land.

The Florida House is also expected to vote in favor of the legislation after Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis announced Tuesday that lawmakers will be “considering termination of all special districts that were announced in Florida prior to 1968 — and that includes the Reedy Creek Improvement District.”

The special tax district allows Disney wide-ranging autonomy, including over local police and fire departments on the land where its theme park sits in Orlando. It currently saves the company tens of millions of dollars a year in exemptions from various regulations, taxes and fees, the Wall Street Journal reported, citing a person familiar with the company’s finances.

The Reedy Creek Improvement District was created in 1967 in an effort to “support and administer” various aspects of “economic development and tourism within District boundaries.” (Read more from “Florida Lawmakers Vote to End Disney’s Tax Privilege, Self-Governing Status” HERE)

WATCH: Crowd of Protesters Chant ‘Grooming Is Wrong’ Outside Disneyland

Protesters gathered Thursday at Disneyland in California to rally against the entertainment giant’s stance on the Parental Rights in Education bill and recent reports that the company plans to expand its LGBT content for children.

Protestors are repeatedly shouted “grooming is wrong,” and “boycott Disney,” according to a video posted to Twitter.

The Florida bill forbids the education of sexual orientation and gender identity in school-aged children from kindergarten to grade three, according to The Florida Senate. Critics have argued it will marginalize the LGBTQ community, according to the CBC. (Read more from “Crowd of Protesters Chant ‘Grooming Is Wrong’ Outside Disneyland” HERE)

Lawmaker Threatens a ‘Living Hell’ for Disney as LGBTQ Feud Intensifies

The Walt Disney Co.’s proclamation that it will somehow force an overturn of Florida’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill that Governor Ron DeSantis signed into law on Monday could mean the loss of government perks that will lead to “a living hell” for the company best known for family-friendly theme parks and movies, state Representative Anthony Sabatini told Newsweek on Friday.

Sabatini enthusiastically voted in favor of House Bill 1557, which critics call the “Don’t Say Gay” law, in February and has been one of its highest-profile proponents ever since Disney issued a March 28 decree saying its “goal as a company is for this law to be repealed by the legislature or struck down in the courts.”

In response, some lawmakers are threatening to reverse government favors that have benefited Disney since 1967, when Florida created something called the “Reedy Creek Improvement District (RCID).” This gave Disney taxing and other privileges and allowed it to “act with the same authority and responsibility as a county government,” a favor that made sense to politicians at the time since Disney was promising to turn 38.5 square miles of “largely uninhabited pasture and swampland into a global destination,” according to the RCID website.

“When Disney purchased land for its theme parks, it pushed through laws that said it was self-governing,” Sabatini told Newsweek. “They have their own police and fire departments and could even have their own nuclear power plant if they wished. If it were up to me, I’d call a special session and Disney would lose all of it. If they’re governed by local authorities, it’s not going to be pretty for them—they’ll be subject to all sorts of crazy taxes, rules and regulations. It will make life a living hell for them. They’ll be regulated like everybody else.”

DeSantis, in fact, signaled during a Thursday press conference that he’s open to the idea of reversing special privileges that had been carved out for Disney, though repealing corporate state tax breaks are off the table since all businesses qualify for them. DeSantis said he’d be in favor of not allowing Disney “to have their own set of rules compared to everybody else.” (Read more from “Florida Lawmaker Threatens a ‘Living Hell’ for Disney as LGBTQ Feud Intensifies” HERE)

Tulsi Gabbard Blasts Government Schools Teaching ‘Woke Sexual Values’

Former Democratic presidential candidate and Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard is coming out in support of Florida’s Parental Rights bill and says the legislation doesn’t go far enough.

“We should all support the Parental Rights in Education bill that recently passed in Florida which very simply bans government and government schools from indoctrinating woke sexual values in our schools to a captive audience. A captive audience that by law is required to attend,” Gabbard said. “But as I read the legislation I was shocked to learn that it only protect kids from kindergarten to third grade. Third grade? What about twelfth grade? Or not at all?”

Biden Administration Will ‘Monitor’ Florida’s New Parental Rights Bill (VIDEO)

White House Communications Director Kate Bedingfield made a rare appearance at the daily press briefing Tuesday afternoon and told reporters the Department of Education will monitor the implementation of Florida’s new Parental Rights in Education bill.

“The Department of Education…will monitor this law upon implementation to evaluate whether it violates federal civil rights law,” Bedingfield said.

The Parental Rights in Education bill bars the instruction of sexual education or orientation to children younger than eight years old and is supported by the majority of Americans, including Democrats. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis signed the bill into law this week and blasted critics for misrepresenting its purpose.

Majority Of Florida *Democrats* Support GOP ‘Parental Rights’ Bill

A new poll shows that Florida Democrat voters support the Republican Legislature’s “Parental Rights in Education” bill, despite a campaign from the radical left to falsely label it the “Don’t Say Gay” bill.

The bill, which passed the Florida House in early March, would order that a “school district may not encourage classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity in primary grade levels or in a manner that is not age-appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students.” Despite the outcry from Democrats and journalists, the bill does not mention “gay” or any specific sexuality.

NBC News reporter Marc Caputo drew attention to a poll in a Twitter thread on Thursday from Floridians for Economic Advancement, which found that Florida Democrat primary voters support the bill 52 percent to 36 percent. The survey structured its question similarly to how the actual bill is written, asking respondents: “Should students in Kindergarten through 3rd Grade be taught about sexual orientation in the classroom by their teachers?”

Caputo posted a slide from the poll, which was originally covered in a Florida Politics article — though Caputo called out the publication for omitting the question about the bill from its story.

“Poll shows FL DEMOCRATIC primary voters support the GOP Legislature’s “Parental Rights”/LGBT education bill by 52-36%. FL Capitol Dems opposed it & made it a top messaging priority. (This is unmentioned for some reason in the story I QTd. This poll jibes w/others I’ve seen),” he wrote.

Florida had three of the top 10 metro areas with the steepest rent hikes in February, more than any other state.

A Redfin study found that rents in Miami, Fort Lauderdale and West Palm Beach each popped by 30 percent in February compared to the same month last year.

Austin topped the list with a staggering 40 percent rise in rental costs in February, followed by Portland at 39 percent.

New York City continued to see rebounding rents last month and placed third with a spike of 36 percent compared to last year. (Read more from “These Cities Had the Highest Rent Hikes Last Month” HERE)
