House GOP Chairmen Demand DOJ Documents Related to Hunter Biden Special Counsel Appointment

The Justice Department “pulled punches” and “handicapped veteran investigators” over the course of its investigation into first son Hunter Biden, the Republican leaders of three House committees charge in a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland, demanding documents related to the appointment of a special counsel in the probe.

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-Mo.), House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) and House Oversight and Accountability Committee Chairman James Comer (R-Ky.) on Monday called on the Biden administration to provide their panels with all documents and communications referring or relating to Delaware US Attorney David Weiss’s appointment as special counsel earlier this month in the government’s 5-year-long investigation into President Biden’s 53-year-old son.

Weiss’s appointment “raises numerous concerns” because of previous statements by Garland indicating that the Delaware US attorney already had “ultimate” authority in the probe, the committee chairmen wrote in their seven-page letter to the attorney general, which was made public on Tuesday.

“Now, recently reported information raises additional concerns about the Department’s unusual actions in this matter, and suggests that the Department under your leadership has been attempting to circumvent the rule of law in favor of Hunter Biden, President Biden, and the Biden family. Given the extremely serious nature of these issues, the Committees expect unfettered cooperation with our oversight from both you and the Department,” the lawmakers wrote. Biden Looks to Cash In on Trump’s Booking: ‘A Great Day to Give to My Campaign’

. . .At the moment former President Donald Trump was being booked, fingerprinted and photographed at an Atlanta jail, President Biden was fundraising for no reason whatever.

“Apropos of nothing,” wrote Mr. Biden’s official account on X, the social-media platform previously known as Twitter. “I think today’s a great day to give to my campaign.”

The tweet, which included a link to Act Blue to “donate to the Biden-Harris campaign to fight back against MAGA Republicans” was sent at 7:30 p.m.

At that moment, cable-news networks were following Mr. Trump’s travel to and from Fulton County Jail to be processed in his fourth indictment, for trying to overturn Georgia’s 2020 presidential election result. Startling Report Reveals Agendas Joe, Hunter Biden Had for Ukraine

The video of Joe Biden, as Barack Obama’s vice president, stunningly relating how he used a billion dollars of American tax money to threaten Ukrainian officials and coerce them into firing a prosecutor looking into Burisma, which was paying his son Hunter $1 million a year, continues to stun.

In fact, on a trip to Ukraine, he told officials to can prosecutor Viktor Shokin, or lose out on the American aid. He gave them only a few hours to comply, and Shokin was fired.

Biden said, “I said we’re not going to give you the billion dollars. They said ‘you can’t do that, you have no authority, you’re not the president.’ I said call [President Obama], I told you you’re not getting a billion dollars.” He said he was leaving in six hours, and “If the prosecutor’s not fired, you’re not getting the money. Well son of a b—-, he got fired.”

Now a new investigative report by John Solomon at Just the News traces how just a few weeks before State, Treasury and Justice Department officials had Shokin was making good progress on anti-corruption reforms so the $1 billion loan guarantee could be made available. Shokin even got a letter to that effect. . .

Memos drafted in the Biden camp at that time abruptly turned America’s direction, stating, to Ukraine, “There is wide agreement that anti-corruption must be at the top of this list, and that reforms must include an overhaul of the Prosecutor General’s Office, including removal of Prosecutor General Shokin, who is widely regarded as an obstacle to fighting corruption, if not a source of the problem.” (Read more from “Startling Report Reveals Agendas Joe, Hunter Biden Had for Ukraine” HERE)

‘Chilling Threats’ Issued Against Whistleblowers Who Helped Tank Hunter’s Plea Deal

Attorneys for the IRS whistleblowers who exposed Hunter Biden’s sweetheart deal — brokered by now Special Counsel David Weiss — are crying foul as the legal team of President Joe Biden’s son attempts to have their clients prosecuted.

Jason Foster, who represents IRS whistleblower Gary Shapley, is highlighting reporting in the New York Times about the latest “chilling” move by Hunter’s team, who want congressionally protected whistleblowers prosecuted for speaking out and telling the truth.

“The I.R.S. agents and their Republican allies say they believe the evidence they brought forward, at the precise time they did, played a role in influencing the outcome,” the New York Times recently reported. “Mr. Biden’s legal team agrees that the I.R.S. agents affected the deal, his lawyers have contended to the Justice Department that by disclosing details about the investigation to Congress, they broke the law and should be prosecuted.”

Democrats Aren’t Laughing About the Hunter Biden Debacle Anymore

“There is a time to laugh and a time not to laugh, and this is not one of them.”

Those words from Inspector Jacques Clouseau may have to be emblazoned across the hearing room of the House Oversight Committee. It was a month ago that House Democratic members mocked the testimony of two whistleblowers who testified about the rigged investigation to protect Hunter Biden, the son of President Biden.

Now it appears that the controversial “sweetheart deal” was not the first choice of US Attorney David Weiss. He actually was planning to let Hunter walk without even a misdemeanor charge despite massive unpaid taxes, gun violations, and work as an unregistered foreign agent, among other alleged crimes.

The reason for his change at Justice, according to the New York Times? Those pesky whistleblowers.

One of the most insulting moments for the respected IRS agents came from ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.), who mocked the allegations as part of “this Inspector Clouseau-style quest for something that doesn’t exist [that] has turned our committee into a theater of the absurd, an exercise in futility and embarrassment.” (Read more from “Democrats Aren’t Laughing About the Hunter Biden Debacle Anymore” HERE)

President Biden ‘Very Obsessed’ With Coverage of Hunter, but Aides Afraid to Bring Him up in Meetings: Report

CNN’s John Avlon said Thursday that President Biden was “very obsessed” with the coverage of his son Hunter and his allies don’t want to bring it up because it would “derail a conversation.”

Avlon said that Republicans have had a “difficult time demonizing Joe Biden” and said doing it with Hunter Biden creates “some sense of moral equivalence with the Trump family’s challenges.”

“There’s deep reluctance, as this reporting shows, to raise this with President Biden because he has stuck by his sole surviving son and he will. And in private also, I’ve heard reports that he’s very obsessed with the negative coverage of Hunter. He’s concerned about it, it’s an irritant. And that’s understandable. But not one that allies around him want to raise because it will derail a conversation,” Avlon continued.

The CNN panel discussed new reporting that said Biden’s aides rarely bring up his son during campaign meetings because it’s a sensitive topic. (Read more from “President Biden ‘Very Obsessed’ With Coverage of Hunter, but Aides Afraid to Bring Him up in Meetings: Report” HERE)

Joe Biden Used Email Pseudonyms While VP to Loop in Hunter on Ukraine, Government Business

President Biden used at least three pseudonyms during his vice presidency to send messages to his son Hunter concerning both family and official government business — including meetings with Ukrainian leaders, emails found on the first son’s abandoned laptop show.

Then-Vice President Biden emailed Hunter under the aliases “Robin Ware,” “Robert L. Peters” and “JRB Ware” between 2014 and 2016, keeping his son abreast of scheduled talks with then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko and Kyiv Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman, among other communications The Post first revealed in 2021.

The elder Biden had one of his aides, John Flynn, send his daily schedule to the private email address “[email protected]” at least 10 times between May 18 and June 15, 2016, copying Hunter on a May 26 message with a note about an “8.45am prep for 9am phonecall [sic] with Pres Poroshenko.”

Biden had pressured Poroshenko five months earlier to fire Ukrainian prosecutor general Viktor Shokin, who was investigating the natural gas company Burisma Holdings, where Hunter earned roughly $1 million per year while serving on the board between 2014 and 2019.

The vice president, who was in charge of Ukraine policy at the time, discussed reforms to Shokin’s office after the prosecutor’s ouster, according to an archived readout of the May 27 conversation. Hunter Biden Misdemeanor Charges Dismissed by Judge Following Plea Deal Breakdown

Hunter Biden’s misdemeanor tax charges have been dismissed by a federal judge in Delaware, an expected move after his “sweetheart” plea deal fell through last month during his first court appearance in the case.

The Justice Department submitted a filing last week to dismiss the case ahead of a possible trial on Biden’s felony gun charge in a different district.

After the plea deal fell apart, Biden pleaded “not guilty” as federal prosecutors confirmed he is still under federal investigation. He was expected to plead guilty to the two misdemeanor tax counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax as part of the plea deal to avoid jail time on the felony gun charge.

Biden’s attorneys and Special Counsel David Weiss are still fighting over a diversion agreement concerning the felony charge that would allow him to avoid any jail time. Weiss has indicated he plans to potentially take Biden to trial in the future in either Washington, D.C., or California.

On Tuesday, Weiss strongly rejected claims by Biden’s legal team that his office “reneged” on the plea deal for President Biden’s son to resolve the federal tax and gun charges, while stressing that agreement was “not in effect.” (Read more from “Hunter Biden Misdemeanor Charges Dismissed by Judge Following Plea Deal Breakdown” HERE)

Former Intelligence Director Slams New Biden Docs as the ‘Smoking Gun and the Bloody Knife’

Former Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said new documents involving Joe and Hunter Biden were a “smoking gun and the bloody knife” Thursday.

Republican Rep. James Comer of Kentucky, the chairman of the House Oversight Committee, demanded access to documents from then-Vice President Joe Biden’s emails Thursday in a letter to the National Archives and Records Administration. A May 26, 2016 email to one of then-Vice President Joe Biden’s pseudonyms discussed an upcoming meeting with then-Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko.

“These are Joe Biden’s documents. One of the emails on the NARA website is literally titled, ’emails between vice President Joe Biden and Hunter Biden regarding Ukraine and Burisma,’” Ratcliffe told Fox News host Laura Ingraham. “I mean, that’s not a smoking gun, that’s a smoking gun and the bloody knife. I mean, that’s really significant evidence that we really shouldn’t just be finding about now. I think it’s a shame that it’s Jamie Comer and House Republicans doing the investigating.” (Read more from “Former Intelligence Director Slams New Biden Docs as the ‘Smoking Gun and the Bloody Knife'” HERE)

Takeaways From the Hunter Biden Special Counsel Appointment You Won’t Hear From Big Media

Friday’s news dump featured an announcement by Attorney General Merrick Garland that he had named Delaware U.S. Attorney David Weiss as special counsel to continue the investigation into Hunter Biden “as well as any matters that arose from that investigation or may arise from the Special Counsel’s investigation.”

While the official appointment order barely filled a page and the attorney general’s accompanying comments provided little additional texture, the news is hugely significant. Here’s how.

When news broke that Garland had named Weiss as special counsel, Republicans jumped on the appointment as further proof of a cover-up to protect the Biden family. After all, the House had finally succeeded in uncovering and exposing massive evidence of corruption reaching all the way to the Big Guy, and whistleblowers continue to provide Sens. Chuck Grassley and Ron Johnson further material, including evidence that implicates the Department of Justice in obstructing the investigation.

However, court filings in United States v. Biden from Friday indicate the collapse of Weiss’s plea deal with Hunter Biden spurred the request for special counsel status. The president’s son had appeared before Judge Maryellen Noreika on July 26, 2023, ready to enter a guilty plea on two misdemeanor tax counts. But after questioning by the federal judge on the interaction between the plea agreement and a separate pretrial diversion agreement the parties entered on a gun offense, Hunter Biden pled not guilty and the court continued the hearing, ordering the parties to provide supplemental briefing. Noreika was particularly concerned that the pretrial diversion agreement related to the gun offense included a provision granting wide-ranging immunity to Hunter Biden, whereas normally that provision would be included in the plea agreement.

On Friday, the Delaware U.S. attorney’s office filed a motion with Judge Noreika stating that following the late-July hearing, the parties had entered additional plea negotiations but had “reached an impasse” and that the government now believes the case will not resolve short of trial. And because “venue,” meaning the proper location for a trial, does not lie in Delaware but rather Washington, D.C., or the central district of California, Weiss’s office moved to dismiss the charges against Hunter Biden “without prejudice,” meaning charges could be refiled elsewhere. In fact, in his motion, Weiss noted prosecutors are “considering what tax charges to bring in another district…” (Read more from “Takeaways From the Hunter Biden Special Counsel Appointment You Won’t Hear From Big Media” HERE)
