Report Warns of Looming Collapse in Iran Amid Mounting Executions and Nuclear Ambitions

The Islamic Republic of Iran is facing an existential crisis that could spiral into civil war if not managed properly, according to a new report released this week by the UK-based Henry Jackson Society.

The report comes as the United Nations accuses Tehran of executing nearly 900 people in 2025 alone, describing the surge in executions as a “tool of intimidation” against dissent. The sheer scale of repression, combined with economic discontent and rising opposition movements, has fueled speculation that the regime’s grip on power may soon weaken.

“If the Islamic Republic falls, there is a danger that regime collapse could lead to a vacuum of governance that is accompanied by civil war,” the report warns. “This is an outcome that must be avoided at all costs for the Iranian people, and every step must therefore be made to ensure that any transition is quick and painless.”

The findings stress that Iran’s ruling clerical elite remains firmly committed to the 1979 revolution and its ideological mission, which includes “reconstituting its nuclear program and exporting terrorism both regionally and internationally.” These ambitions, the report argues, make the regime an enduring threat not just to its own people but also to Western security.

Targeted airstrikes by Israel, reportedly carried out with U.S. support in June, damaged Iranian nuclear sites and temporarily set back Tehran’s program.

“This offers a greater prospect of galvanizing the Iranian opposition if there is a plan for the day after as opposed to a vacuum of governance,” the report concludes. “And in so doing, it contains the best prescription for both resolving the threat the Iranian regime poses to the international community, and to its own people.”

The analysis comes at a time when economic hardship, protests, and international isolation have pushed Tehran into one of its most fragile moments in decades—raising the question of whether Iran is on the verge of transformation, or turmoil.

‘Deeply Disturbing’: Prime Minister Announces They’re Banning Iran’s Ambassador

Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced Monday that his government is cutting diplomatic ties with Iran after intelligence officials linked Tehran to two antisemitic attacks on Australian soil.

Albanese said the Australian Security Intelligence Organization (ASIO) uncovered evidence that Iran directed assaults in 2024 on a Sydney kosher restaurant and a Melbourne synagogue. Days earlier, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Albanese of having “betrayed” and “abandoned” Israel and the Australian Jewish community.

“Enough credible intelligence has now been gathered to reach the deeply disturbing conclusion that the Iranian Government has directed at least two of these attacks,” Albanese said in a statement. “These were extraordinary and dangerous acts of aggression orchestrated by a foreign nation on Australian soil. This is an attack on our society, aimed at creating fear, stoking internal divisions and eroding social cohesion.”

ASIO found the Iranian government had directed arson attacks on the Lewis Continental Kitchen, a kosher food company, in Sydney last October and on the Adass Israel Synagogue in Melbourne in December, Albanese said.

As part of the response, Australia is expelling Iran’s ambassador and relocating its own diplomats stationed in Tehran to a third country, Albanese said. The government also plans to formally designate Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organization. Iran Told to Comply with Nuclear Demands or Face Consequences after ‘Serious’ Meeting

European diplomats met with Iranians on Friday face-to-face for the first time since Israel and the U.S. bombed the country last month.

The “serious, frank and detailed” meeting in Istanbul, Turkey, lasted for around four hours and the officials all agreed to meet again for continued negotiations on Iran’s nuclear program.

Sanctions that were lifted on Iran in 2015 after it agreed to restrictions and monitoring of its nuclear program could be reimposed if Iran doesn’t comply with requirements.

One of Europe’s E3 nations – Britain, France and Germany, who held the talks with Iran – could bring back sanctions under the “snapback” mechanism, which allows one of the European countries to bring back U.N. sanctions if Iran violates the conditions.

European leaders have also said that sanctions will start being reinstated by the end of August if there is no progress on reining in Iran’s nuclear program. (Read more from “Iran Told to Comply with Nuclear Demands or Face Consequences after ‘Serious’ Meeting” HERE)

Iranian Foreign Minister Confirms Nuclear Sites ‘Seriously Damaged’ by U.S. Strikes but Vows to Continue Uranium Enrichment: ‘We Can Never Give It Up’

Iran’s nuclear facilities were “seriously damaged” by US missile strikes last month but the regime intends to continue uranium enrichment efforts once they are rebuilt, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi confirmed Monday.

“Our facilities have been damaged, seriously damaged, the extent of which is now under evaluation,” Araghchi told Fox News “Special Report” host Bret Baier.

“The facilities have been destroyed,” he later acknowledged, noting that Iran hasn’t been able to refine nuclear fuel since President Trump ordered military strikes on three uranium enrichment sites on June 22.

After the interview aired, Trump took to Truth Social and demanded an apology from CNN, whom he claims doubted the effectiveness of the airstrikes.

“Iran’s Foreign Minister, Abbas Araghchi, on the Iran Nuclear Sites: ‘Damages are very severe, they are destroyed.’ Of course they are, just like I said, and we will do it again, if necessary! As interviewed by Bret Baier,” Trump wrote. Uri Geller: Israel Used Secret Group of Military Psychics, AI to Attack Iran

In a phone interview, Geller elaborated that this reveal supports a claim made by Abdollah Ganji, former editor of the IRGC-linked newspaper Javan, that Israel utilized “occult and supernatural forces” during what the IDF dubbed Operation Rising Lion.

“In the first year of the Gaza war, news had leaked about [Prime Minister Benjamin] Netanyahu meeting with occult specialists,” Ganji said on X/Twitter.

“A few years ago, the Supreme Leader had stated that hostile countries and Western and Hebrew intelligence services use occult sciences and jinn entities for espionage.”

While the Mossad’s Farsi X account was quick to lampoon this allegation, Geller said that Ganji was “basically right.”

“The circumstances in Iran were so mysterious and so bizarre that the Iranian government realized that this cannot happen with mechanical means or cyberattacks. They cannot happen with anything known to the human mind from a scientific point of view,” he explained. Iranian Official Claims Israel Used ‘The Occult and Supernatural Spirits’ during 12-Day War

Abdollah Ganji, former editor of the IRGC-linked newspaper Javan, told his 150,000 followers on X that a “strange phenomenon” had taken place during the 12-day war.

A senior Iranian official claims that Israel deployed “the occult and supernatural spirits” during its war with Iran, Iran International reported on Friday.

Abdollah Ganji, former editor of the IRGC-linked newspaper Javan, told his 150,000 followers on X/Twitter on Wednesday that a “strange phenomenon” had taken place during the 12-day war.

“After the recent war, a few sheets of paper were found on the streets of Tehran containing talismans with Jewish symbols,” he wrote. “In the first year of the Gaza war, news had also leaked about Netanyahu meeting with occult specialists.

U.S. Missile Defenses Heavily Depleted in Shielding Israel: Report

The U.S. drew down a significant portion of its advanced anti-missile system to bolster Israel’s defense against Iranian aerial attacks during a 12-day conflict in which Israel and the U.S. struck nuclear facilities and Iran retaliated with missile launches, according to defense news outlets and independent analysts. . .

Israel has long relied on the Lockheed Martin developed Terminal High-Altitude Area Defense, known as the THAAD battery, for shielding against ballistic missiles from Iran or its proxy groups such as the Yemeni Houthis.

The U.S. military operates seven THAAD batteries. An eighth, getting integrated into the Missile Defense Agency, is capable of tracking hypersonic missiles. The THAAD deployment to Israel is part of a broader challenge where supporting allies in conflict zones means using resources that could affect military readiness and future deployment.

During the recent Israel-Iran conflict, the United States used an estimated 15 to 20 percent of its global THAAD missile interceptor stockpile, incurring unprecedented costs exceeding $800 million, according to the Bulgarian Military News and Military Watch Magazine outlets. Iranian Supreme Leader Emerges From Hiding To Declare Victory Over Israel

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, announced the Islamic Republic won the twelve-day war between Iran and Israel in his first public comments since the cease-fire Thursday.

Khamenei released the pre-recorded statement after President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire Monday, signaling that Iran considers the war concluded by declaring victory.

He remained in hiding during the war, according to the Associated Press. He was sheltered in a “secret location,” the outlet reported.

“I extend my congratulations to the great Iranian nation for its victory over the Zionist entity,” Khamenei said, as translated by the Hindustan Times. “Despite all the claims and hype, the Zionist entity was almost crushed and collapsed in the face of the Islamic Republic strikes.”

Khamenei continued by thanking God, whom he claimed aided Iran’s forces “as they penetrated the advanced multi-layered Zionist defenses and raised many of their civilian and military sites to the ground.” (Read more from “Iranian Supreme Leader Emerges From Hiding To Declare Victory Over Israel” HERE)

CNN’s Kate Bolduan Insists Network Did Nothing Wrong in Reporting Trump’s Iran Strike. the Records Say That Is a Lie

CNN’s Kate Bolduan insisted Thursday that the network’s coverage did not omit key details on the U.S. bombings of Iranian nuclear sites despite the fact that CNN only added certain details after Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth chastised them Wednesday.

The network, led by former Politico reporter Natasha Betrand, published an article Tuesday about the leaked Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) report, highlighting the fact that the report said the U.S. bombing campaign only set Iran’s nuclear program back a few months.

However, the CNN article did not initially include the fact that the DIA made the assessment with “low confidence” based on satellite imagery of the underground nuclear facilities.

CNN updated its article to include the low confidence element after Hegseth blasted them for it.

“The instinct of CNN, the instinct of The New York Times is to try and find a way to spin it for their own political reasons to try to hurt President Trump or our country,” Hegseth said during a Wednesday press conference at the NATO summit in the Netherlands. Trump Will Limit Sharing of Classified Information With Congress After Iran Bombing Document Leak

The Trump administration will limit the sharing of classified information with Congress in the wake of a high-profile document leak, the White House has confirmed to the Washington Examiner.

President Donald Trump maintains that last week’s Iran strikes totally obliterated that country’s nuclear program, but his claim has been undermined by a leaked internal document suggesting the nuclear program was set back by only a few months.

Trump’s White House has responded to the leak with a full-court press, pushing back furiously against the reports, opening investigations into the leak, personally attacking the reporters involved, and now limiting how much information it shares with Congress.

A White House spokesperson also pointed to statements press secretary Karoline Leavitt made Wednesday afternoon about an FBI investigation into the matter.

“I am told by the FBI that the leak already is being investigated, and it absolutely should be,” she said on Fox News. “Because this was a top secret intelligence analysis that very few people in the United States government had access to see.” (Read more from “Trump Will Limit Sharing of Classified Information With Congress After Iran Bombing Document Leak” HERE)
